    Excellent Camera Exceeded My Expectations

So I have previously reviewed the single camera and found it to be very exceptional. I also purchased a twin back of cameras to install and like my opinion of the single cam, I am very happy with this purchase. Pros: Exceptional camera quality. Built in speaker and microphone allow you to communicate with someone on camera. Set up was very simple. I did notice that if you are setting up with an Android phone, and you have something else connected to your phone's bluetooth, you will have to disconnect that device before your phone will complete the camera set up. In my case, my smartwatch had to be disconnected from my phone. Cons: Cameras are a little on the pricey side. Also, the core on the power cord is very large. Had to drill a large hole in the wall to run camera cable. Also, cloud storage subscription could be a little cheaper, especially when you have purchased multiple cameras. Overall I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Pros - Clarity or camera is outstanding. I love being able to listen and speak through the camera itself. Set up was easy and navigating the mobile app was straight forward. Night mode also enables me to see in darkness, although not as well as I hoped. Cons - This unit is on the pricey end and I'm not a fan of the cost to record to the cloud. I wish they had a better package deal for people with multiple cameras. Also, the core on the power line is rather large. I had to drill a larger than expected hole. I think the newer model corrects this. Overall I am very pleased with this item and highly recommend.

Excellent Security Camera in Many Ways

This is an excellent camera in many ways. First, it is very easy to set up. It literally takes a couple of minutes to add a camera, after an account is set up. It takes only a few minutes to set up an account. The difficult part is the physical installation of the camera, as with any camera. This entirely depends on the structure, network range and power source. This applies to every camera in the industry. The Nest is still a wireless camera, and therefore no need to run an ethernet cable. Nest has made the installation very easy by including the hardware and instructions. Their customer support is excellent. They have an excellent app for iPhone, Android, and can connect from PC as well. One feature I really like is it sends a notification alert and an email by indicating "noticed some activity". If it sees a person, the notification changes to "spotted a person". BTW, it even records audio and you can have very clear conversation with the person, if you choose to do so. The video clip in the email shows a zoomed in picture of the person. You can then go to the video, clip it and save it. To view the video history, after free 30-day trial, you have to subscribe to their service at $10 per month, $5 each additional camera. You can also save by paying for the entire year (pay for 10 months, instead of 12). The Nest subscription is well worth it. If you don't want to spend money on the subscription, no problem. You still get an activity notification, and still, can monitor live video. You just can't access video history and don't get "spotted a person" notification. I have researched other cameras. I even bought a Samsung from Costco and ended up returning it, after wasting about 5 hours just to connect the Samsung camera to a network. I am glad I didn’t install the camera outside first. The app and instruction for the Samsung were terrible. The Nest camera is the way to go. They have other Internet of Things (IOT) products, for wireless connections, including thermostat, etc. I have not used any of these myself, yet. They are truly professionals in the IOT industry. I highly recommend the Nest camera.

I’ve owned 5 different brands of security cameras over the years and these are the best I’ve had yet. The Pros: -Continuous recording -Image quality -Ease of use -App available on a variety of operating systems -Accurate motion detection -Connects with a wide variety of other home automation platforms and services. -Strong connectivity and reliability -Easy to mount The Cons: -Pricier than some -Requires a subscription for some of the functions to work -Googles poor reputation for privacy -Not HomeKit compatible I was hesitant to buy initially because of my concerns about what Google does with all the images and videos that are captured as these continuously record, but I needed a reliable, easy to use camera system that I could count on to give my wife and I peace of mind. This system has delivered. We had basically abandoned the old camera system because it had become so unreliable and that we have these up and running, we are able to keep an eye on deliveries, landscapers and our kids and pets when we’re away. I’d recommend these to anyone looking for outdoor security cameras. While they may cost a little more than some of the others, you definitely get what you pay for and I would say that these are a great value overall.

    Security & Convenience

It does what it’s supposed to and it does it quite well. Getting the camera running is very simple just like all of the other Nest products. Plug it in, scan the barcode, connect to WiFi, and you’re done. Installing this camera to run off indoor power is another story. Fortunately, I was installing this outside of my garage, overlooking my driveway so I was able to sneak the wire through the vinyl soffit and power it from the same outlet as my garage door openers. Others may not be so lucky depending where you install the camera. Do note that you should make every attempt possible to power this from inside your home. I am not sure what the point of having it powered outside would be as it can then be easily disconnect or stolen. If you are having a hard time with finding an indoor outlet and a place for the giant AC adapter, you could always get a POE adapter/splitter and forego the Nest power disc… Now onto the Nest camera itself. I am getting great video quality, the audio is a nice feature, notifications and motion capture works wonderfully. 24/7 recording is a breath of fresh air compared to the Arlo cameras I use inside my home. They do a decent job at capturing motion, but I have had a couple missed events. The wife didn’t want me running wires so the Arlo system worked out nicely in terms of being able to hide the cameras away. To be honest, I don’t want 24/7 video of the inside of my home being pumped into the internet anyways. On the outside, I want 24/7 video, and you should as well. There is a lot of information that leads up to an event and a lot that happens after an event… The Nest Outdoor cam has great build quality and works just as I had hoped. Daytime footage is perfect while nighttime is something to be desired. I am getting a ton of glare/interference from the IR LEDs. I believe this is from the IR light being reflected off the nearby gutter and wall. I need to try repositioning it to see if it goes away. Also, you can use the digital zoom to crop out any interference and the exposure will be readjusted. The only real downside I can think of is the data usage. Most broadband service comes with a data cap nowadays. So be mindful of how much data you are consuming with these. If you are a heavy hitter with streaming content, a couple Nest cams may put you over the edge. In terms of video quality vs data usage: Low = 30gb/mo, Med = 120gb/mo, and High = 300gb/mo. For those complaining about having to pay for Nest Aware, think about what you are getting for a measly $5/mo or $50/year. You are getting continuous 24/7 recording with cloud storage of 1080p video for 5 days, smart notifications, etc. If something was to happen, you are going to know within 5 days and you can download & save all the video you need. Alternatively, you could buy an IP camera, build a decent computer and buy/run BlueIris which would work just as well as the Nest setup. However, at that point, you are already at least $500 into managing 1 camera and all the maintenance & support is on you. In retrospect, $50 or $100 per year isn’t really that bad for what you are getting. Keep in mind, you are essentially paying for the convenience of not having to set up and monitor a security camera yourself. Would it be nice if Nest allowed access to the private stream so that you could use BlueIris to store the 24/7 stream locally? Yes, I would like nothing more. However, Nest is a company, and the goal of any company is to make money. (To some degree, you can do this, but it’s pretty poor since access to the RTMP stream was removed from sharing.) All in all, I am pleased. Before buying these, you should do your homework and know the limitations & requirements of utilizing the Nest cameras.

So having a Nest doorbell, I figure when I was looking for security cameras to keep it Nest brand so as to integrate seamlessly. I only really needed one camera, but at $199.00 for a single camera or $299.00 for two cameras, I went with the two pack as it was a better value. Now the cameras are very high quality and the set up is a piece of cake. Simply down load the Nest app and scan the bar code on the camera and Nest does the rest. Log on to you WiFi and and your connected ….it was really easy and painless. Once you're connected figure out where you want to place your camera screw in the magnetic plate and attach the camera to it. The camera is held on by a pretty powerful magnet, which I was first skeptical of, but now have no worries as it has held up with no moving to some serious rain and wind storms. Then you plug the camera wire into the connection box which is then plugged in an electrical outlet. It is just that easy. My only gripe about the whole installation is the camera cable has a big connector on it where it plugs into the connection box. So basically to run this cable thorough a wall into your house which 99% of will have to do since the camera is outside and the plug that plugs into an electrical outlet will be somewhere in your home, you will have to drill a hole about the size of a quarter (7/16th I think ) into you wall! not the ideal thing to do, but a must. I drilled through the wood and then used caulking to fill the hole in, My hope is Nest makes a much smaller connection in the next generation camera. But as for installation that is my only complaint. Now on to the app and the use of the cameras. The Nest app works beautifully and opening the app reveals my doorbell camera view as well as my front yard camera view. Both in beautiful 1080 HD. When you connect the camera you get one month free of Nest's monitoring service called “Nest Aware” setting up the cameras resolution, night vision and most importantly the camera's notifications is easy. One awesome thing about the Nest cameras is they record 24/7! Ring and other cameras only record when the camera is triggered or the doorbell rung. These cameras record ALL the time which is awesome so you can scroll through the video and see what happened all day and night ...pretty sweet feature....Now, here is the not so good news about the Nest and it has nothing to do with the cameras its all about the Nest Aware service. After I set up my cameras and the sensitivity zones and for what and when I wanted to be notified I was really happy that I could pick and choose the things that I wanted to be notified about such as a person, sound, car or a package left at the door and what I wanted my camera to notify me about. Because I want to know about someone in my yard not someone walking across the street in my neighbors yard or just a car passing by! The Nest camera allows you to do that and I was very impressed with the camera settings and abilities. But when my free month of Nest Aware expired I lost ALL those awesome abilities, no more picking my camera zones, no more 24 hours recordings etc....now my cameras would only alert me when someone came into the zone or rang the doorbell. So basically I was unable to control my camera's zone, so with Nest Aware I could pick when a person or something entered that zone to notify me. Without Nest Aware then I get notified anytime some is picked up on my camera...so since the field of view on the camera is quite large I'm getting notified when a person walks across the street and not just into my yard......ugh...what a pain! Without the Nest Aware subscription the cameras still work and you don't need to pay a monthly fee to use your cameras, but you can't save or download video, nor can you really use the full potential of the cameras without paying for the Nest Aware service! Clearly Nest wants to force you to buy their monthly service to fully access and use the cameras to their full potential. Now to be fair Ring and most other camera providers are also doing the same thing. So me wanting all the bells a whistles decided to pay for the Nest Aware service as the cheapest plan is $6.00 a month or only $60.00 if you pay for the whole year up front (savings of $12.00 a year). So I paid for the whole year up front...now the real kicker, that $60.00 a year was just for my Nest doorbell. Now I have another camera to add to my Nest Aware subscription, should be no issue right? just add it and enjoy? Oh no here is where Nest gets you, I can't add any cameras to my Nest Aware subscription without paying an additional camera fee . Nest must have realized upset their customers might react to this and at the least will charge only $3.00 per camera per month more....how sweet of them. So basically since I technically have 3 cameras, (1 doorbell camera and 2 outside cameras) for my monthly fee for the MINIMUM package to access all the feature is going to be $132.00 a year! If you have or want more cameras you're going to pay even more! So as for the cameras and doorbell the system is great and high quality, as for the Nest Aware subscription well lets say Nest is really taking it to their customers. If I already have a Nest Aware subscription I should be able to at least have 2 to 3 cameras on that subscription without being charged additional fees! Unfortunately Nest has taken a great system and turned it into a nickle and dime money maker for them. For me I now have a decision to make to either pay for one, two or three cameras. For some people the $132.00 a year is not much for others it maybe. I just wish I knew all this before buying the Nest system. So in a nutshell: PROS: Great high quality cameras that are easy to set up, mount and use. CONS: If you're going to get the Nest Aware subscription, which is highly recommended to get the full use of the camera system, be ready to pay! The more cameras you have added to your Nest Aware subscription, the more money Nest is gonna charge you!

This is a great outdoor camera. I've used these for years and they JUST WORK! Rain, heat and exterior environment just don't seem to affect these at all. Everyone that sees the video marvel at how crisp and clean the picture is. Easy to set up and install. I love the motion sensing zones you can add to make going back and looking at an event quick and easy. Even night vision is pretty good.

Picture quality: fantastic. Motion activation: check. Night vision mode: crisp and clear. History review: fair. Setting up any and all parameters: so easy (I use my iPad Air for all Nest product setup). Shortcomings: too long screws for most applications really, and must plan out the cable; could be tricky bc of length as well as the connecting piece. It's otherwise pretty close to perfect for price and promise.

I have purchased both indoor and outdoor nest cameras for security purposes. The cord for the outdoor camera is fantastic. However, I did have an issue with the wifi. The further you got away from the front door the less likely the camera would connect. My sister had the same issue. The camera is awesome during the day but I'm not too satisfied with it at night. While it's nice to be able to view basics of what happened during the night you can NOT get much detail from the night vision. It's much clearer at night when it's focused on a specific area with a bright light as opposed to a broad area like your front yard. Otherwise people look like the dark figures and you can't identify cars well. Either way, I'm satisfied with my purchase. I think everyone should invest in one, it's well worth the $10 a month for Nest Aware.

Installing these cameras is super easy. You just screw in the magnetic mounting base with the included high quality screws. From there attach the camera, it sticks to the base magnetically. The camera can then be positioned on the base to the location you want. Once installed just plug it into an outlet and use the Nest app for setup. The cameras are always on and use Wifi so make sure you have a strong WiFi signal or get a WiFi extender to go near the install location. Even though the camera is attached magnetically it remains in place very well. I have multiple cameras mounted on the outside for my home. The cameras have been exposed to heavy winds in excess of 80mph and did not move. The rain also has not done any damage to them in any way. My cameras have been on non stop for well over a year and a half with zero issues. I have 5 cameras currently and use about 1tb of data a month in upload with 3 of the cameras at medium quality and 2 at full. The cameras have the ability to alert you to zones you select and draw if you want. Or they alert you to movement within the camera frame itself. The alerts will let you know if the camera saw a person, car, or movement. They can also alert to sound and identify sounds, dog barking, or person talking. I’d recommend these to anyone looking for a really easy to set up and camera. High speed internet is a must though. A high speed wireless router is a so needed.

This is a great camera, and I am happy with it so far. The video quality and viewing angles are good, and the app makes it easy to scroll through and find activity quickly. Since it plugs into an outlet, it may not work with all setups if you want to hide the cord. Otherwise, the installation is very easy: connect the camera to your wi-fi, bolt the mounting plate to your wall, plug it in and you're done. Positioning the camera where I wanted was the longest step of the process for me, and the design of the socket magnetic mount is clever - you can angle the camera any way you want which is great. For an additional monthly fee you can set multiple notification zones and save clips. For the extra money, they also claim to use a better algorithm that can distinguish people from other types of activity; in my experience during the trial period this has been very accurate. The activity notifications are informative and arrive pretty fast. They come to your phone and/or email as you specify and you have the ability to speak through this camera to your visitor whether you are home or not. I purchased this over a competitor because of the higher video quality, wider viewing angle, and user-friendly app. I also didn't want to have to change batteries. What sealed the deal for me, though, is the constant recording. Too many other cameras on the market only start recording as your visitor has already started to leave - this camera records everything! To me, that's the whole point of making a purchase like this. I'm dinging it one star because the night vision is not quite as good as I expected - fine, but not great. Also, I was surprised during setup to receive a message encouraging me to set the video quality to "auto," meaning that it fluctuates from good to okay. If you select "highest quality," it warns you that this setting requires a lot of signal bandwidth and the camera will get hot. This was an unwelcome surprise that I had not read about in any other reviews.

Purchased this camera to watch my front porch/door, and wanted to receive notifications and live feeds. Easy to install, but I drilled through the wall to put the power cable inside. The hole had to be pretty big since there is an adapter connection permanently attached to the power cord which was the only part that was frustrating. Had it hooked up for the past month with no issues. You have to subscribe to the NEST Aware plan to receive all the benefits, I went with the 10 day storage which is $100 a year. Overall great camera and I may add another one to get a different viewpoint.

The image off of this camera is amazing and it looks great, too! There are rubber skins available that allow you to change the color as well as protect the camera a little. Set-up of the camera and the Nest app were ridiculously easy, but the installation took a bit as I wanted a clean install. The power cord is basically in two pieces, and where they join together is much, much larger than the cable diameter. So, if you want to pass the cable through an opening (in a wall or roof) then you have to cut a pretty big hole. Also, the subscription is a bit ridiculous. $10/month per camera, otherwise you only get a three-hour, low fps recording, which does not serve its purpose for most owners.

This camera is a absolute godsend. These were very easy to install. Plenty of cord 25 feet to find a plug. Pairing to your phone was a snap. Within a week of putting these up, we had a guy try to steal our grill. I was able to talk right through the system and to his surprise as he looked up at the camera and gave me a great face shot, stop him from taking the grill and left him speechless. The great thing is that I was able to replay the video, get the entire clip downloaded and get it sent over to the police to catch this guy. With nest you have continuous recording and clip shots not just a clip with nothing else. The audio is very good. There is a slight delay but it is minor. The camera can distinguish a person vs motion and you can really set it to what you want. The only reason not giving 5 stars is that when replaying the video back for the police dept we cannot hear what I said to him. The police would have liked to hear my voice of what i said to this guy. I liked them so much that I bought another set for another area. Saved my personal belongings, Can save yours too.

We love these new outside Nest cameras. The day pics have great color showing so much more detail than I expected! At night the infra-red lights up my whole back yard up and is super clear. I also put one above my front door facing across the yard, which allows me to get a clear pic of anyone at my front door or anywhere in my front yard. The install was easy and only took about a half hour to install each unit. The biggest problem was finding and planning for a 120volt access. There was plenty of cable that came with the kit for install. In my case, too much cable, which I had to figure out where to hide it out of sight. I have to admit I've become a Nest Junky. I start with the CO2/smoke detectors and moved on to a Nest third gen. Thermostat and then a couple in door cams and lastly the outside cameras. I love how the different items communicate with each other and us to make it an even better/safer product. It's also great that you can control everything from ur cell phone. The cameras can actually tell the difference between other things moving and if a person has been seen. Then it texts and emails you to go to app/site and see who. I think they have great products and even better people on the phone if you need any help or questions answered.
