Customers value the Nest Connect for its easy setup process and its ability to extend the range of the Nest Secure home security system. Many customers found the setup process to be simple and straightforward, while others appreciated the improved connectivity it provided. However, some customers felt that the price was too high and that it may not be necessary for smaller homes.

Extends the range of your Nest Secure

For bigger homes with lots of rooms, it's a good idea to snag one of these. My particular placement didn't require it (yet) but as I add more Detects to my system, it's gonna be necessary for sure (especially as I add the garage to the setup).
Speaking of setup, adding the Connect to the house took all of 2 minutes (thanks to the QR code and app-guided setup, it was very quick!)

wifi range extender for Nest security system

I have the Nest security system and have the range extender just in case I need to extend the range for the motion detectors. I'm not sure I really need the range extender, but have it just in case.
It may not be necessary in a smaller home. If your wifi covers your house well, then you may not need it.

Works with Nest Secure Alarm System

As an addition to the Nest Secure Alarm System, this will extend the range of the system for the various sensors. Not absolutely necessary but a good addition to the system for larger homes or for those who want peace of mind and a strong signal so there are no drops in signal to system sensors.

I wrote a review for the Nest Secure system and for completeness thought I'd share some insights on the Nest Connect.
The Nest Detect sensors (door/window/motion sensors) do not use wifi to connect to the Nest Secure system - they have a network protocol called Weave which like any RF medium has its limits (due to either distance , obstacles or interference). So this is the range extender exclusively for the Weave network, and exclusively for Nest Secure <-> Nest Detect.
My house is around 2500Sq ft , and I have sensors all over at each end of the house and while the connect is up and running just by plugging it in, I found that my system works perfect well without it.
I received this product in exchange for my evaluation and review, but as I say if you have some specific building construction that blocks the signal , or are just living in a huge mansion (you can have up to 4 connects in a single installation) - you might find you need one of these, but I would try it without and only buy this if you find you're pushing beyond the laws of physics.

Good option to have when needed

The Nest Secure security system communicates with the Nest Detect sensors wirelessly, but it doesn't use Wi-Fi but the "Thread" networking protocol. The Nest Connect is an optional range extender that can help when dealing with a large distance between the base (Nest Guard) and the sensors, or if you run into wireless interference. It does not extend Wi-Fi.
Installation of the Nest Connect is as easy as most Nest products, and requires the use of the Nest app you already have installed.
My home did not need the Nest Connect with the Nest Detects mounted in "normal" positions. But, when I placed the Nest Guard in the farthest corner of the house and a Nest Detect in the opposite further corner, the Nest Connect did seem to help.
So, it can be useful/necessary for certain situations but first try installing without.

Nice option for Nest Secure in larger home

The Nest Connect is an optional range extender (think WiFi extender) for the Nest Secure home security system. In my installation, the downstairs slider doors are on the edge of signal range, so a Connect was added in an area between the Nest Guard base unit and the Detect on the slider doors.
It's essentially a plug and play unit and is very low-profile against a white outlet.
It is not necessary for smaller homes, condos, etc. perhaps try the system first and test to see if signal reaches all Detect units before adding the Connect.

Extends the range of Nest Secure

This device stays plugged into an electrical outlet and extends the range of the Nest Secure home alarm system.
Good for large property coverage.
Not really needed for an apartment, condo or even a townhouse.
I do, for the most part, trust home Wi-Fi, but better safe than sorry for bigger homes.

If you have a large house or there’s an interference with your wifi that’s interrupting your Nest Secure system, this range extender will work for your alarm system. Easy to install , just add it to your Nest app and plug it in. This extender also stays up and running when the power goes down. Great addition to your Nest alarm system.

This was a great addition. I wanted to secure my garage so I place the connect inside my house closest to my detached garage. I then place a sensor on my garage door and synced it to my Nest Secure. This addition gave me a huge sense of security for my prized possession. The Nest Connect helped me secure my garage. Happy to have added this jewel to my system.

A Range Extender for Nest Secure

The Nest Connect is simply a range extender for the Nest Secure alarm system. It's used to connect the Nest Detects in larger homes to allow them to be placed farther from the Nest Guard and still maintain connectivity. Or if you don't have a large home, but have wireless interference which prevents the Nest Detects from commnicating with the Nest Guard, using the Nest Connect will improve the communication between the security devices.
Installation is easy using the Nest app. Simply go to “add product” on the app, scan the QR code, and follow the directions. Plug it in to a wall outlet within 40 feet of the Nest Guard and you're done. That's all there is to it. It works behind the scenes. It's only function is to extend the range for the Nest Detect. One interesting feature is that you can string up to four Nest Connects together to extend the range to greater distances for much larger homes.
Bottom line: buy it if you need to extend the range of your Nest Detects or if you're experiencing wireless interference.

Should be a multifunction device

With four separate entry points to our home, I figured it best to get the Connect to go along with the Secure system. Setup is straight forward as with any other Nest Product. What I would like to see is the extension function of the Connect integrated into a second, wall mountable keypad…or some kind of sensor. They don’t advertise it, but it appears this has a battery backup, like the main unit.

Only useful if you are using Nest for your home security, but works great for allowing your to place Nest Detect sensors farther away from the Nest Guard Hub. Not too much else to say except set up is easy and this unit just works and doesn't need any attention (the way it should be).

This product extends the reach of the Nest alarm system. The base is in the front of my home and I have a sensor in the back. The Nest Connect helps that signal reach the back window sensor. A must have if you want sensors in places other than doors.

If you have a large home, then the Nest Connect will take any fear out of your Nest Secure devices losing connection. It plugs straight into the wall and is simple to add in the Nest app. It is small and has great coverage to add Nest Detects to the far side of a home. If you have a big home or are experiencing issues with your Nest Detect connecting to the main Nest Guard, then this device will alleviate your problems.

Good extension

This is a great extension for my Nest Protect. I'm not sure it helps a whole lot but it is a nice sense of security that the furthest door sensor will be connected. Like I think with the whole system, I think this should be half the price. It does a nice job of notifying me that the power is out because it does have a backup battery in it so it still connects to the further sensor if the power goes out.

The Nest Connect is great addition to the Nest Secure Alarm System, especially if you have a larger home. It's simple to set up and just works. If you have a larger home, it's worth it to know your detects are within range.

It’s a signal booster plain and simple. Easy to set up and does what’s required, just keep the kids away from it as curious hands tend to take it off the wall.

This works with the Nest Secure system. It is supposed to help extend the range of the system and seems to be quite unneccesary for a regular size house. It says that it does provide back up support in the event of power failure but we had a power failure the other night and the system sent a failure notice. The Nest Secure system itself though is quite handy.
