Best fire and carbon monoxide detector out there. easy to install. no longer have to worry about false alarm, battery problem, or set off during cooking. Have had it in different houses prior to this one. A little expensive but worth it. The app let you test or stop the alarm from testing. highly recommended.

Love this product and have been purchasing and installing these in every house we owned since 2014. The automatic checks, the ability to name each room/area, the announcement function before blasting all alarms are life-changing and life-saving. The cherry on top is the night light. The only con is that is quite expensive

Ultra high-quality construction. Amazing and easy app set-up. Excellent performance. This unit self-tests often. It communicates with your Smartphone and is constantly monitoring. I chose the WIRED version after actually emailing my fire department. While simple to install, make sure you have turned the power off as it will cause circuit breakers to trip and shut down other devices (I learned the hard way) if a wire touches an area it should not. It's a bit pricey but isn't your safety worth it? Highly recommended.

I was very hesitant about spending over $100 buck each for this product, but it was well worth it. Installation and setup was seamless. The nighttime pathway light is incredibly useful and the only that lets you know that you purchased a high-end fire alarm. Without the light it would go unnoticed like any other brand smoke detector, until there was an issue. Great product, but especially if you’re transitioning to a smart home. That said, I believe I need a fourth one for my bedroom, which I will be buying today.

I bought this Nest Protect 2nd generation to add to my collection of other Nest products I have in use at my house. This happened to be the third Nest Protect I now have installed. It was very easy to install and setup using the Google Home app. My only complaint is that these are on the expensive side. If you're committed to using all Google - Nest products in your home, then this is the way to go. If not, then look elsewhere.

Overall five star rating …. however the Nest do not work with existing old schools smoke detectors…. so technically and not super important at first…. but you’ll have to replace all of your smoke detectors with Nest in order to get the all floors/all rooms home alert in where the emergency is originating from…. …. Or …. at the very least have one Nest on each floor of your dwelling in conjunction with old one then replace old ones in bedrooms with new Nest ever year, this … way if your way upstairs your Nest will alert the one your closest to because you not and won’t likely be able to hear the basement one…. …… this was fine for me to do because ALL my smoke detectors were expired and way expired at that, So they absolutely needed to be replaced…. so you can either do one at a time as your smoke detectors go bad … And you probably didn’t know smoke detectors had an expiration date, did you?? but they do just like your milk or your Cola… so keep that in mind- Nest is a great product and has many awesome features and should last 10 years or until till you have to replace it because of the fore mentioned expiration date…. or in my case…. I’ll forget and problem be dead 20 years after the expire because that’s how long it was before I got around to replacing the old one with Nest product….. I have Nest cameras and Nest thermostats and it’s back by Google … so it should be supported for way long into the future…… thanks and enjoy .. and stay safe…. Life’s tough…. but Nest makes life easier…

Hi ABob, we truly appreciate you for sharing the details of your feedback and kind words about the Nest Protect (Wired). Your feedback helps us constantly improve our products and services by knowing areas or opportunities we can work on.

Each company’s smoke and CO alarms use proprietary detection algorithms and interfaces, therefore there’s no industry standard. If alarms from different companies are connected together, they may not warn you properly in an emergency. The NFPA actually prohibits the connection of alarms from different manufacturers without special testing.

Also, all carbon monoxide (CO) alarms expire because their sensors have a limited lifespan. Because CO sensors have a limited life expectancy, certification standards require Protect to chirp after its sensors have expired or have failed. To help you remember to replace your Protect before it expires, you’ll receive reminders long before your Protect’s expiry date. You’ll no longer be protected from smoke or carbon monoxide if you don’t replace your Nest Protect when it expires.

We care about your experience. If there’s anything we can help you with, or if you have anything you’d like to share, you’re always welcome to contact us at Google Nest Help page here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Great Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detector that installs in minutes! My new home for some reason didn't come with detectors that included carbon monoxide detection so an upgrade was necessary. It works so well with the nest ecosystem and my favorite part is that you can mute them from the app if you accidentally burn something as it gives you a warning before it goes off which give times to mute it so that it doesn't go off unnecessarily. Would recommend this to anyone who wants peace of mind.

We replaced all 7 smoke detectors in our 3 story townhome. Install was easy - just make sure you buy a wired version if you’re replacing an in-ceiling wired model. A battery one will work for all other scenarios. The LED lights on the detector are awesome - they light a path at night when it’s dark with their built in motion detectors. The self checking mechanism is excellent too, as is in the Nest app integration. Worth the investment, especially if you spend time away from home since it will notify you if there are problems. My only gripe here is that for Nest Secure users, these Protects should be able to act as speakers for when the alarm goes off. There is a lot of noise being made about this online - the Nest Guard itself is simply not loud enough to alert a multi level house of an intruder.

I purchased this after purchasing a battery powered version a few days prior. I was able to quickly install this where my previous dumb smoke alarm was located and had it connected to the battery powered Nest upstairs in 1 minute. During the first week of use, we experienced a power outage in our neighborhood and I was alerted via the Nest App that my power was out!! Great little feature. I currently have two protects and the nest thermostat and they all communicate with each other very well. Having all 3 really helps with the auto away feature for the thermostat. Get this smoke/CO detector and feel safer at home and away!

Reluctantly bought 3 of them after my wired detectors started chirping at 3am for absolutely no reason (even with new batteries). That will drive anyone up the wall so I rage bought these Next Protects. Installation was easy and the way it links up with the Nest Thermostat is neat. I don't think I'd do it again though...the price was hard to swallow. Nest needs a multi-pack at a discounted rate (I really need 8 for my house, nope). I do worry that the specs (wifi, etc) may be outdated in 2027...think about it, how certain are they that things won't be vastly different then. We shall see.

I really like the nest products in general. I purchased 3 of these and installed all of them in 30 minutes from start to finish. Very easy to set up on the app as well. When I first installed them I was very disappointed in the night light until I realized you have the ability to adjust the brightness. Once I adjusted it I found it was great not enough light to wake some one up in the middle of the night but enough light to be able to see where your walking!

As with all of the Nest products both physical installation and setting up the wifi and the device itself is simple with easy to follow steps. I'm a DIY'er so did not feel the need to call an electrician to set up - if you are comfortable installing a standard, wired smoke detector, Nest Protect will cause you no issues. As I said in my summary - it just sits there and does nothing! I guess I won't know how well it performs until I have a fire or CO leak in my house! But, it does make for a nice motion-detected nightlight!

This is third time purchasing Nest Protect. Setup is unbelievably simple. I love how the individual Nest Protect alarms will work together in the case of an emergency. Not only will any alarm cause all the Protect to alert you to the issue, but they will also provide the location of the issue based on the name/location you give the unit during setup. Furthermore, the Protect will work with your Nest thermostat to shut off the furnace in case of a fire. The mobile app is easy to use and will also provide a notification on your phone if any of the alarms go off while you are not at home.

I have upgraded every smoke detector in my house with one of these. Key features in addition to detecting smoke and CO2: 1) check power/battery on app. Never again wonder which smoke detector is making that beeping noise. 2) smoke in the kitchen? You can silence the alarm from your phone, no need to get up on a chair and poke it (althogh that works too). 3) has a motion night light. Pretty cool. Makes the house feel alive...in a good way.

I installed five Nest Protect devices in my home this past Spring to replace my 10+ year old smoke/carbon monoxide detectors and add to my Nest collection. I already had the Nest thermostat and so I was already familiar with the great mobile app. They were easy to install myself and setup was a breeze. I really love the motion activated night feature and monthly test function. I recently sold my home and bought a new one so I am replacing the ones there too!

For whatever reason I am very paranoid about a fire happening when I'm not home and not being able to do anything about it. But with the nest protect all of those fears have vanished. I also like the cool little features of how it illuminates the hallway when it's dark, therefore eliminating the need to turn on the hallway light. I also like how it also integrates very well with the nest thermostat to. I will probably be buying more Nest Protects for the other rooms in my house. I got the AC powered version, add it was very easy to install, even for a novice like me.

I upgraded to these because my old alarms were either overly sensitive or we both too much food. These have been working great, the warning feature is a godsend instead of immediately blaring and scaring every animal and human in the house. The break out feature for me though is the night light, it has been the most useful thing ever, and hardly anyone mentions it. The only thing that could make these better is if they were also wireless speakers so I could have whole home audio easily! (I have 6 of these installed)

It is a great add-on to the nest thermostat. All connect to a single app, which keeps you notified of any issues associated to carbon monoxide and fire. We have not had any false alarms and have 5 connected around the home. Love the night light! Not a 5 star because would have like that the app had an override function.
