A great device for all things, nothing bad so far
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this recently and have been playing with it non-stop, trying to understand everything there is about the Google Pixel phone. So far, I'm impressed. I have not found anything at all that I would change. The first impression is of the packaging. Very high end, and well laid out. You don't drop it when you open the box. Once you get the phone out of the box you realize this is no cheap Android phone you may have been used to seeing/using before. This is a great build and quality phone, just like the high end phone that seems to dominate the high end phone market. As for the feel, this has about 2/3 metal on the back, then glass for the rest, leading up to and past the fingerprint reader that is on the back of the phone. This phone has Gorilla Glass 4, nothing less than durable. And the screen has an amazing look, crisp, rich colors, reminds me of my wife's OLED TV screen; colors that pop out at you vs. just colors. The phone uses a USB-C charger, and one of the best features is the speed at which this can charge. The ad on TV promises 70% charge in 15 minutes, and I don't know about all that. But I do know that within an hour I was able to go from about 40% to 100%. And I think the lower the battery is, the faster it charges. As for what you can do with the battery, I turned the screen brightness all of the way up, locked it on, and streamed Pandora for about 9 hours, and the battery was still at 30%. My current phone would last maybe a couple of hours doing the same, so this is saying something. The battery and charging on this phone are the biggest strengths of this phone. To know you can get charged back up quickly is what is really important, in fact that is the most sought after thing in a smartphone today. And it seems someone has finally listened. As you can imagine, this is a very fast phone, fast page loads, no skipping, apps run smooth and clean, speed test for internet shows it taking full advantage of the high speeds available on WIFI, but also on LTE. Now, the easter egg. You can use this with AT&T, Tmobile, or Verizon. They seem to come unlocked, if you buy the full price version and not the Verizon on contract version. So, you can slip in your SIM card from these three, and the phone will work. I'm so elated that no matter which of three providers I use, the phone will work. Not having to scrap it going from GSM to CDMA is such a relief. The more time I spend with this phone, the more I'm impressed. Having spent a few years away from Android, I realize the world of Android has changed. More importantly, the phone hardware makes this a complete package; Android alone wasn't enough to lure me in, but the hardware, coupled with the new version of Android, is. The phone comes with a headphone jack, a sore spot with some on competitive phones. This is a great plan. The USB-C charger is also a great plan, given that USB-C is the new standard. You will not be disappointed with this phone. The operating system seems solid, and customizable, with a solid piece of hardware. I worked this thing, streaming music, playing games, screen turned up, and it never even got warm. The camera works as advertised, taking great photos, rendering great color, detail, etc. I have no disappointments. You can also stream 4K videos on this phone, should you wish. And if you are one who actually uses your phone to make phone calls, you will be happy because the call quality is amazing - and the WIFI calling feature does not disappoint either. Again, nothing I can say negative about this phone, it was well thought out, works great, and can only say thanks to Google for putting out such a nice phone. Android has come a long way, and this hardware is the best thing I've used for quite some time.

Nearly a perfect phone...nearly...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Google Pixel is the perfect blending of the best parts of so many other good Android phones with just a few oversights. Build construction is definitively premium. The Gorilla glass screen, metal body, and metal buttons give the phone a solid, high quality feeling. The HD screen is plenty bright, very sharp, and seems to offer good color saturation. The Snapdragon processor and 4GB of RAM offer excellent performance that is very snappy and responsive. And the fingerprint scanner is well placed and very quick to unlock the device. The camera is awesome. It is very quick to open, quick to focus, and image quality is quite possibly the best ever offered on an Android phone. Plus, its set fully in the body with no annoying bump-out. On the software side, Android 7.0 Nougat is a great improvement on an already great OS. On the Pixel, there's no carrier bloat to deal with and no OE skinning; just a clean, pure Android experience. On the downside: There is no SD expansion, no water-proofing, and no wireless charging. But, depending on your personal usage, these may or may not be an issue for you.

Fastest Android yet, but with caveats.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Pixel is an excellent phone, but can it really hold its own against the plethora of other Android devices out on the market? With tons of other manufacturers using Google’s Android operating system, Android has become a platform for devices with different hardware, designs and features. The Pixel is Google’s first true opinionated take on Android, but it really isn’t much for bells and whistles. BUILD QUALITY: The Pixel has a solid build quality. The build is primarily aluminum, and other reviews have shown that Google stepped up the durability, as it holds up against bend tests very well. With a matte aluminum finish, it isn’t as slippery as much of the competition, and the glass panel on the back of the phone also helps improve grip if you leave your index finger mounted on the glass like I often do. Additionally, the edges are chamfered to improve grip on the device, so I don’t feel as though it will drop out of my hand at any moment. That being said, I’ve opted to use a case to prevent scratches, despite feeling more confident in its durability. The power and volume buttons are very tactile, and it didn’t take long to get used to their placement. It’s been a few years since I’ve had a phone of this size, since I’ve generally opted for phones with larger 5.5”+ displays. That being said, I really do like how ergonomic and comfortable the Pixel is to hold in the hand. It’s great for one-handed use, but still has a screen large enough for plenty of content to be displayed. My only concern is how well the Pixel’s glass panel on the back will stand against more extreme climates (especially during the winter). DISPLAY: The Pixel sports a 5” 1080p AMOLED panel. Colors are vibrant and saturated—. It’s a beautiful display to look at. It’s not accurate like the panels on other flagship devices, but Google doesn’t seem to be going for that, here—at least not by default. After enabling sRGB mode in the Developer Options, the Pixel has an incredibly accurate display. Overall, it’s very enjoyable to look at, and this panel makes for a much more enjoyable video/photo viewing experience. That being said, if you’re interested in using the Pixel for VR, it’s important to note that it won’t be as crisp as the Pixel XL which sports a QuadHD display (1440x2560). CAMERA: The Pixel may be one of the best 12.3MP cameras I’ve used on a smartphone. It performs better in low-light than other smartphones that I’ve tested. Photos are captured incredibly quickly—faster than any other phone I’ve owned on any platform. Photos come out sharp, detailed, and vibrant. But because there is no optical image stabilization, sometimes photos can come out blurry if you or your subject is shaky. Video looks great in 4K, and the software video stabilization ensures that videos come out smooth. The slow-mo is also a great feature, but is best used in good lighting conditions. If you’re familiar with the Google Camera app, not much needs to be said, as most of these features are available on the last release of Nexus devices. Either way, the sensor and post-processing seems to have improved quite a bit, and it certainly shows in the results. The front-facing camera is an 8MP camera, and while it doesn’t have all the abilities the rear camera has, it definitely succeeds in delivering high-quality selfies. SOUND: Good and bad here. The good news is that Google included the 3.5mm headphone jack, and it is able to provide decent amplification for even a set of my more efficient planar magnetic headphones (30 ohms, 102dB/1mW). Volume maxed out, these headphones are at a comfortable listening level. Using more efficient headphones, the integrated amplifier provides plenty of power, so volume can reach past levels of comfortable listening. That being said, there’s nothing exemplary about the sound, here. It’s simply a minor improvement over previous iterations of Google’s smartphone offerings. The bad news, however, is that there are no front-facing stereo speakers. This seems like a step back for Google, as the Nexus 6P had excellent front-facing stereo speakers. The sound quality is “meh” through the speakers on the Pixel. Watching videos on the Pixel doesn’t offer a complimenting aural experience. It’s less immersive, and even hearing my custom ringtone is not as enjoyable, as a result. Given that I watch videos on my phone fairly frequently, this is a disappointing aspect of the Pixel’s design. With a bit more time, it’s possible that they could have integrated IP67 water resistance and stereo speakers—an actual feature of another 2016 flagship phone. BATTERY: With the limited time I’ve had with the phone, the battery life has been surprisingly good compared to other Android devices I’ve owned. I won’t go into all of my settings and all the apps that I use, but as somebody who knows more of the ins and outs of Android, I was able to get 3 hrs 47 mins of screen-on time and 38% battery left with Wi-Fi off, Bluetooth on, and cellular data enabled. If this was a linear drain, that would amount to a projected 6hrs of screen-on time. I’m currently averaging 4hrs 18mins of screen-on time, but it’s important to know that these numbers aren’t indicative of a drain from 100% to 0%, so this could be higher. In terms of charging time, I haven’t tested Google’s claims of 7hrs of battery after a 15min charge, but this phone does charge quickly with its included 18W adapter. SOFTWARE: The Pixel’s software experience has been lovely. Due to the improved internal hardware and software optimizations, the Pixel is the fastest Android phone I’ve used. How that will hold up over time—we will have to wait and see. But nonetheless, the software is very responsive. Google Assistant is one of the highlighting features of the Pixel phone. It essentially replaces Google Now, and for most circumstances, will do a better job answering your questions or performing tasks. I use Google Assistant when I am driving, when I need to reply or send a message hands-free, or inquire about weather and other miscellaneous information. The list goes on. Thus far, I haven’t found it to be substantially better than Google Now on previous Android phones, but it’s contextual awareness is what makes it so much more useful. Gone are the days of having to repeat the context in order to get my question answered. The new Night Light mode is also great, as it reduces the blue hue in the display, and displays a more halogen hue to prevent eye strain and headaches. As a result, using your phone before sleep won’t cause headaches. OVERALL: There is still more that can be said about the Pixel, and improvements to the software will undoubtedly make this phone better even weeks from now. But if you’re looking for an excellent, no-frills Android experience with the most responsive software and ease-of-use, then the Pixel is the phone may be right for you. Made by google—for everybody.

Average phone
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited to receive this phone. It replaced my Note7 : ( , which I hated to have to give up. This phone is small. I like the fingerprint button on back, makes sense to have it there, easier to turn on phone. I decided not to put a case on this phone. I like it better without one. The display is good, and so is the camera. From me, I like a cute phone and in my opinion this phone is just plain. Nothing fancy, it doesn't catch your eye. The battery is pretty good so far. It was easy to set up, no problems. The phone charges pretty fast. There is no room for an expansion card, which I had with my Note7. It was easy to get all of my data transferred, but not my photos. The phone also did not come with headphones, which I thought was weird. There is a headphone jack on the top. If you are looking for a basic android phone, this is it. I did not see anything on this phone that just stood out or makes me just want to have it. I have both, an android and iPhone, so I am comfortable with both platforms. This pixel phone is a decent phone, just not appealing to the eye.

Love this phone!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first smart phone without hardware buttons which took some getting used to, but now it's not a huge deal. I do really like the fingerprint sensor though. Once you get used to it, it's as quick to use to unlock your phone as a swipe.

Solid Google Phone
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The phone does exactly what it advertises. I prefer it over th S7 and the Iphones, however there were some minor software issues initially for the first week getting the phone to properly recognize wifi in some locations. May have been firmware update issue. Have not had a problem since.

Unlimited storage (photos & vids)
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.(This review is on the 32g 5 inch screen pixel not the the pixel xl.) Google comes hot out of the gate with their pixel and pixel xl hoping to compete in a smartphone market dominated by big names that have been at it for much longer. Google has made some big claims in what their phone can do, so let's go over some of the features and help decide if this is the right phone for you. Right out of the box the phone looks very well made and almost classy looking. There are no buttons on the front or rear of the phone giving it a more uniformed and sleek look. The only buttons you will find are the power and volume buttons both located on the right side of the phone. The front of the phone houses the forward facing camera which is a 8mp camera. Nothing to really brag about but it gets the job done. On the back side of the phone you will find the 12.3 mp camera located in the upper corner and a fingerprint scanner located almost directly in the middle of the phone. Let's talk about these features real quick. The camera is a low light 12.3 mp lens which can take really impressive photos in just about any light except complete darkness. The pixel doesn't come with very many factory features built in to the phone for photo shopping but with this being an Android based phone there many apps or add-ons you can download to enhance your photos further. The fingerprint scanner being on the backside of the phone is a feature I really liked. You hold the phone like you normally would and simple place your finger over the scanner and the phone unlocks. I like this feature due to the fact that it's very accurate and discreet. Nobody could tell what I was doing and even at first glance I didn't recognize the fingerprint scanner due to how well it blended in with the phone. If this is not your thing then no worries. The scanner as a means to unlock your phone can be disabled. The screen is a very vibrant and bright FHD AMOLED screen allowing you to view video playback in 4k quality. Not only can you view 4k quality but you can also stream 4k quality from your phone to your t.v. or tablet. The screen is protected with gorilla glass 4. What this means to you is that it comes with a screen able to resist minor scratches and cracks. And while nothing is ever guaranteed the screen is supposed to be able to survive a direct drop on to concrete. On thing I did notice almost immediately with the screen is how resistant it is to oils from your fingers. With my other smartphones I was always having to clean the phone due to all the smudges and marks left behind from usage. I have yet to have any marks left behind that required the screen to be cleaned. So what separates the Google phone from the rest? For starters there is no access for an SD card, in fact there is no option for a SD card meaning no need to go out and buy expensive memory cards that holds a lot of gigabytes of storage. At first I thought this was a bad idea but I was wrong. Google makes it very easy to transfer all your videos and photos from your current phone or SD card regardless on rather if it's an Android or iOS phone. No more having to put all your photos on a SD card and worrying about losing them if something happens to that card. Also you no longer need to worry about purchasing extra cloud storage for all your photos or videos when you run out because Google offers unlimited storage for photos and videos. You can now capture all of life's moments without worry or regret. The Google pixel also introduces a new charging cable, one that I'm not particularly to fond of. The pixel uses a type- C USB cable to charge the phone instead of the micro SD cable. This is done to increase charging speed and while it is effective, taking a 20% charged phone up to a full charge in just under 20 mins, it's a new feature I'm going to have to get used to. The pixel comes with a very fast snapdragon processor and 4gbs of RAM allowing for very fast multi-tasking and video streaming. I noticed when pulling up apps such as Facebook they would appear almost instantly after tapping them open. Never once have I received lag or lockups. The Google phone also comes with its own personal assistant and while I've seen other Android phones try to implement this feature, they have always come short. Simply speak "OK google" to your phone, even if the screen is off your personal assistant opens your phone and ask what she can help you with. The A.I. is actually pretty smart and can do simple things such as tell you a funny joke or give translation of almost any language you may encounter. This was a feature I actually found myself using quite a bit. All in all this is a great phone to have and my only real complaint is the lack of simplicity in changing the UI or user interface. I found that trying to customize little things like showing actual battery percentage level instead of a battery bar was a little more complicated than I would of liked. This is a personal pet peeve of mine and may not effect you. The good: -Great photos -Long battery life and quick recharge time. - unlimited storage for your photos and videos. - Intelligent personal assistant - very fast processor - 4k quality The bad: - New charging cable that only fits this phone - Lack of options for UI changes

The perfect android !
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is for the 32GB version of Google Pixel in slate gray. The Pixel is Google first take to provide an end to end phone by designing both the hardware and the software and it doesn’t disappoint you one bit! The phone has a very nice feel to it with the curved and rounded edges and there are no camera bumps so the body is completely smooth and feels very premium. The screen size of 5” is in my opinion the perfect size for a phone and I would prefer this phone over it bigger brother XL having a 5.5” inch screen size. The AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with corning gorilla glass 4 protection has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 and in bright sunlight, it is a bit difficult to look at the screen. Otherwise it works great indoors and colors are very deep and rich. Also the smaller screen size means it can retain more battery. Even though I was a bit disappointed by 2770mah battery, the software does really help in battery efficiency. I was just able to last the entire day with moderate usage. The fingerprint reader at the back also is more convenient then the readers at the front and has the added functionality of using it as a way to look at the notification drawer. The phone has a lot of power with the latest quadcore Snapdradragon 821 processor clocking at 2.15GHz and 4 GB of ram. I didn’t face any snags in using the phone and I tried all the major apps like Google Maps, Facebook, Whatsapp and Skype. Even when all these apps were running simultaneously I didn’t face any problems and the phone was able to switch between the apps seamlessly. Another important point is that the phone comes sim unlocked from the factory. You can buy it from Verizon but you can use it any carrier on it. I used it with T-mobile and it worked completely fine. The phone has a 12.3 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and the camera has been given the highest score by DxoMark ( the industry standard in comparing lenses and cameras). I found that it was the camera app which really is the difference. The app opens up really fast and there are tons of options like lens blur etc. In my testing the camera was able to take really good photos even in low light. The phone comes with Android Nougat 7.1 out of the box and introduces us to the Google assistant. The Google assistant provides the vast Google database searchable at your fingertips. You can interact with it and it’s a back and forth conversation. I haven’t come across smarter AI yet. The voice recognition is really good and the phone almost always knew what I was saying. Another very useful feature is that the phone comes with a dongle which you attach to your existing phone and lets you transfer everything very quickly and smoothly. I was able to transfer everything from my one plus one less than a minute and was able to setup the pixel phone completely in 5 min.
