New toy - great phone with a few problems

I have always wanted a Pixel device, mostly because of the promise of long-term updates. My wife got a Pixel 6 Pro last Spring. The pixel 6, and now the Pixel 7, feature extensive use of gestures for navigation. On her Pixel 6, I got frustrated with the gestures and restored the old-school buttons. On my new Pixel 7, though, I have become accustomed to the use of gestures after a couple of days. I almost immediately ran into a problem with Google Photos, quick I had never used on previous phones. I started getting warnings about running out of space (in the cloud) for photos. I had transferred the photos on my old phone to the Pixel, which immediately uploaded them to Google Photos. Now I am threatened with being unable to send and receive email using Gmail. There is a 15 GB limit on the free account and I am loathe to pay for more storage, since I already pay for storage on my Microsoft 365 account, to which my photos are already automatically uploaded. To avoid this, I will have to regularly cull the photos on Google Photos to stay under the limit. This has the side-effect of also removing them from the phone. I can't just shut off syncing to Google Photos, since the enhanced photo editing features of the Pixel 7 are tied to Google Photos. My only other complaint is with the fingerprint recognition. My index finger works reliably but, for the life of me, I can't get a thumb to work reliably. I've tried all of the suggested tricks to no avail. It will work for an hour or so and then start failing most of the time. I suspect that when the new fingerprint is captured, it is cached and, when it gets removed from the cache, the permanently stored fingerprint is different somehow. Since thumbs would be more useful when using the phone, this is frustrating. As far as Best Buy, my interaction was minimal. I ordered the phone for pickup at my local store, went to the Customer Service desk, presented the emailed barcode, and walked out with the phone. After installing the T-Mobile SIM, the office automatically call T-Mobile when I attempted to make a call. They adjusted the new SIM and shut down the one in the old phone. Pretty simple and seamless.

Great camera, amazing screen, good battery life, overall a great pick. Only negative is the material is ultra slippery so you must buy a case or it will fall off anything.

Google is gaining in the rest of the industry. Making their own chip was a smart move. This phone is the smoothest and smartest android phone on the planet.

I’m more of a Samsung fan but I am really impressed with this phone! Still learning how to use it! It’s a true flagship from Google. Fast, reliable, and great screen.

The Pixel 7 Pro is an incredible phone. It takes everything that was great about the Pixel 6 Pro, minus the bugs, and improves upon it. Everything is just faster and works well. The camera is incredible, and with the introduction of macro photography (the one thing that was sorely missed in the P6P), the camera is a perfect package. Thanks to the new Tensor 2 chip, night shot works noticably faster. Zoom is amazing and video is very much improved. For anyone looking to get their first Pixel, this is the one to get. And if you are considering an upgrade from the P6P, it is absolutely worth it!

Pretty good phone for new commers. If you already have the 6 Pro, don't upgrade. It's basically the same phone but with refinement. It still suffers from thermal issues like heating, like the 6 Series. Battery life also not that great. Usually lasts 4-5hrs of screen on time and the heat it produces is most likely what causes it. Still, performance rivals that of Samsung and Apple. For the price, it's a really good phone.

Had for 5 months. Overall performance has been very good and quite happy with the camera. The only reason for 4 stars not 5 is the battery life. Despite trying several tweaks the battery barely lasted for 10 hours when I was on vacation using maps and camera heavily. My old Samsung s20fe was far better on the smaller battery.

My expectations were not that high to begin with. But the software experience is a major letdown. Ive been an android user for almost 14 years but Ive never been so frustrated with a phone as now. I dont understand why Google has to go and modify what already works. Android 13 is a mess, every little task requires multiple tasks multiple swipes to accomplish. Swipe here swipe there, just to set the phone to Vibrate, the most basic thing to do. I would not recommend this, Just buy a Samsung instead. The Cons far outweigh the pros in my opinion. Pros: Good Camera Display is top notch Cons: Messy UI Software is a mess Little tasks require too much effort. Charging is SLOW by todays standards. Gets warm on day to day tasks and hotter then I wouldve liked in performance heavy apps

Phone is great! Camera is excellent. Couldnt be happier with my purchase. Phone was a well needed upgrade from my Pixel 3aXL. It definitely has a larger screen than my last phone but it has been easy to get used to, and an easy transition. I did expect the battery life to be a bit better but with constant use in the day I still need to charge daily.
