I got this camera to go snorkeling in the Virgin Islands. I had read reviews saying that the Session's image quality wasn't as good as the Silver or Black. I don't have either one of those, but I will say that the image quality of the footage I shot was excellent. The session is small, light, doesn't need the clear case to be water proof like the more expensive models.
This is a great entry level action camera.

I bought this GoPro mostly for recording my long boarding, but it really has come in handy for other things also! I’m in a band and I often leave it running while we jam so that we can refer to it later. One of the things I like about it is that even though the sound quality isn’t great, it’s very balanced so everything sounds great. In my jam sessions all the instruments can be heard, even the bass guitar. I also used it for recording portions of a concert, and the sound quality is great also. In fact it turned out better than hearing the music live. Also it’s small and portable. I’ve put a mount on my longboard so it’s a cool view from the front while I ride, but it doesn’t get in the way. The only downside I’ve found is that the battery is very short in life while recording. I’d definitely recommend buying a portable battery, which is what I did, and that really extends the life of the camera. Also it doesn’t perform very well in low-light situations. Really if it’s any darker than dusk outside, nothing really shows up. Other than that though, it’s great! Anyone who is considering buying a GoPro for their own personal use should buy this one, especially if they aren’t sure if they’ll need any of the fancy features of higher models.

Purchased this little Gopro to use as an action cam and safety dashcam for my motorcycle. So far its been working beautifully, providing really excellent crisp footage both in daylight and low-light night conditions. The audio quality is really impressive too. Sometimes too well that I had to cover the front mic with some tape when riding fast on the bike. It's really light so I barely notice it mounted on top of my helmet or on my chin. Its cube shape also has way less wind resistance than the usual rectangular shape of go-pros that act like small windsails haha. My only gripe is that there is such short battery life and no option to add a battery pac connection. I supposed you could hook up a slim portable charger to it, and have to mount that too somewhere. I also really like how you can easily change the orientation in the housing it comes with for whatever angle you may need. It being waterproof already with no extra housing purchases does comfort me to know just in case I get caught out in the rain while riding. Overall, def purchase this little cam if your into action sports and want go-pro quality footage in something you can hide or mount way easier than usual go-pro sizes.

I did the research before buying the session, you should too....
I needed something small I could take to the beach for vacation and use as a biking / run camera. This sucker fit the bill. Couple notes... No you don't have an LCD viewing screen of the image your taking, I didn't find that a problem. All the video I took I edited with the free GoPro software anyway. Get the float if your around water this camera WILL SINK! I only used the free GoPro Iphone app to do the camera setup, didn't use it much while capturing video, I see getting the remote in my near future. You will need to get the mounts that will serve you best when using this camera (i.e. stick mount for selfies) This is a fun camera to use!! worked great underwater too...

Cheapest Go Pro Yet

I've had and used Go Pro's for as long as I can remember. I still have, use, and prefer the Go Pro Hero 4 Silver over the new ones. Will be getting the new Hero 6.
This Go Pro is very basic, no 4k, no removable battery, and no e-stabilization, vs the $300 session 4k.
But, 4k isnt 60 frames, action needes 60 frames, and I shoot 1080p 60 frames with my previous cams, and would still use this with the more expensive higher end ones. Except newly launched with gives 4k 60 frames. The lack of stability is noticable, but its not optical or actual stability anyways, its digital. And with almost any video editor, they have stablity correction which almost matches this feature included with higher models. The lack of swappable battery isnt fixed with the higher session 4k, and point of these are they're tiny. So, internal is fine, and supports usb charging.
So, pro of session 4k, not so much of a usable pro for double the price. I'd suggest picking up 2 of these (as I did) at the same price of the higher models.

I bought the session and the silver to test out to see which would suit me best and I absolutely love both of them! The session not only is lighter than the silver but the resolution on the camera is outstanding I use it to record my soccer trainings and I can see every movement clearly without any blur. It's pretty easy to use and lasts me a whole two hours, I haven't tried using it for any longer than two hours, but really great camera especially for those who want to head mount it, it barely feels like anything is on your head compared to the silver which is a bit heavier and it's waterproof! Overall great camera with fantastic resolution and affordable as well

I chose this product primarily because it is waterproof. I liked that the sound wasn't affected by placing it into a waterproof case like other products I considered. The negative to it is there is no screen to see what you are recording, although this can be done with a phone app. The other negative is there is no zoom and it has a fisheye perspective when watching whatever you record. The fisheye can be corrected when converting the video on your computer, but it also converts the file from MP4 video to AVI format. For me, the waterproof design and compact form outweighed the negatives. GoPro seems to be the industry leader in action cameras, and once all their cameras are waterproof and have zoom, there would be no reason to buy any other camcorder in my opinion.

The good The GoPro Hero4 Session addresses the main design sticking points with previous GoPro cameras: It's smaller, lighter and waterproof without a housing; the new shape allows for more flexible mounting; it's fast to start/stop recording; and its new mic design delivers better wind-noise reduction.
The bad The built-in battery means no swapping out for a fresh pack to keep shooting. It needs to be wirelessly connected to Android/iOS device or GoPro remote (not included) to change settings.

Bought this fun camera for my boyfriend who is a drag racer. We have been able to utilize this for in car video, out-car video, etc and the results are fantastic. The quality is crystal clear, the audio sounds great, and it's all easily controlled with an app on your phone. The only concern we noticed was in the dead of summer it would overheat quickly when we had it mounted in the car. Just being mindful of the environment I think is all that is needed. Fun gadget and has helped me learn more about drag racing from a different perspective as well as help my boyfriend make tune-ups/ racing corrections for future passes!

I’ve always wanted a GoPro, but thought they were out of my price range. However when I learned that the Hero session was only $150, and that Best Buy was having a special that gets you a free memory card, I went for it! Great decision. It’s so much fun trying out different shots. I’ve used the two included mounts for my helmet, and on my longboard. Both are great perspectives, and I plan on buying a suction cup mount to attach to my car so I can get footage from outside my car while on the road. This is also very portable and easy to use. I can fit it in the pocket of my shorts while transporting. Only downside I’ve found is that the battery doesn’t last very long. I’ve been on a couple short longboarding runs and had it on for about 45 mins shooting off and on, and it nearly runs out of battery. I bought a portable battery and that should help. If you’re going to take it on trips, definitely invest $40 in a portable battery, you won’t regret it. Shooting quality is very nice, and 1080p at 60fps is absolutely beautiful! This is a great investment for a family or casual video/photographer like me. I would and have recommended this camera to a friend!

Brought the camera with to document our entire cruise. Loved being able to take still pictures and videos. Clarity of the video resolution was not that great, but the voice quality was amazing. I heard other versions including older ones had better picture quality. But all and all did exactly what we wanted it for. Loved the fact that it was water proof. Took a lot of underwater videos and turned out awesome. Would have been awesome for scuba diving or snorkeling excursion. Had a terrible battery life that didn't last more than 4 hours though. Bought an external SD card for 64MB didn't even fill it up but scanned videos onto our computer after every night and deleted them afterwards in ensure we wouldn't run out of storage space. Definitely purchase the accessory package was completely worth it! Recommended this version of GoPro to all our friends and family!

So I bought this to strap onto my motorcycle to do time lapse videos. It records great normal video and was easy to set up; however, I cannot get it to do time lapse video at all and the mounting bracket I bought doesn't fit in my new bikes handlebars due to their larger diameter. There is no user manual with the packaging and not much in the way of help in getting it to do what I want. Also, be aware that the battery doesn't last very long.

I used to have a Gopro hero 3 white, and image quality, design, faster wifi is way better on the Gopro Session.
The only thing that I didn't like it is the battery life, it only last 2-3 hours recording, but if you dont mind battery life and want image quality almost as good as the Hero 4 silver but dont want to spend $400+
Go for it, totally recomended!

Was on the market for an action camera. Went with the Go Pro Session for its compact size, design, and out of the box waterproof. Its easy to use, great quality video, and great for still pictures. Would definitely give this a look if you are looking into getting into the Go Pro world.

I purchased this for a Cancun vacation and was not disappointed. It's shockingly easy to use (press a button), it's easy to maneuver and captures everything in crisp video. I was unaware that when you record for long periods that it chops it up into smaller (and likely easier to save) videos, but overall, a great camera for the price point and does it's job well.

I have a Hero 4 Black and wanted a second GoPro. After looking at all the entry level GoPros at this price and looking at many videos online I went with the Session 4. I wanted something a bit smaller then the Hero 4, and while the other GoPros' at the $180 mark were rated a bit higher than the Session 4 they did not have a smaller footprint. The Session 4 takes good video/photo/time-lapse. The lack of 4k is not noticeable nor does it handcuff the Session 4 enough to not buy it. The only Action camera i think that will beat it will be Nikons Key Mission 360 once it is released, but i think the Session will still win on price.
