Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the Karma Grip's video quality, stabilization, and ease of use. The gimbal and its compatibility with GoPro cameras are also appreciated, along with the added benefit of charging the GoPro while in use and the inclusion of a protective case. However, some customers have expressed concerns about its battery life, price, motor noise, and size, as well as the fact that it is not waterproof.

Unit stopped communicating with the camera beyond just charging the battery... after one (one) month. They said they'd send me a fix... still waiting!!!

We had to exchange the first one we purchased as it was defective and didn't work properly. We hope this new one works well!

    Sync/control problems 50% of time

Syncing: When it works, I love it. But since 50% of the time, I can't get it to control the GoPro5, it is very frustrating and I am returning it, hopefully for one that works properly. "fixes" found online from users are not working. Sound: pretty low quality, but I'll look past that if I can get the Karma grip working and an aftermarket microphone to work with grip and GoPro 5

This is a good gimbal, but be aware it will leave a loud gimbal noise on your video from the gimbal motors.

Best in the market with some room to improve

The Karma Grip appear to have attracted a number of negative reviews originating from motor noise, mic, and tilt issues. Strangely enough, the unit I purchased from BBY upon grip's "official" release exhibited none of the above issues. The motor noise is a quiet, unnoticable hum, the mic works great, and the tilt stays level as I completed a preemptive calibration. So far it's been fantastic, keeping my footage as smooth can be. One of the notable positives is that unlike the other gimbals, the Grip is keenly aware of the physical dimensions of your GoPro, and will adjust tilt and level before your camera lens can hit or record any part of the gimbal. A few minor complaints are: 1. At a specific angle the motor will emit a violent noise and shake due to some kind of weight imbalance, and fixes itself in a second or so once it regains balance. I only have a Hero4 so I am not certain if Hero4's weight has anything to do with the issue. 2. The Hero4 likes to freeze when turned on sometimes via the Handle, this requires you to dismount the camera and extract the battery for a hard reset. This happens more often than I like and I hope GoPro will deliver a software update soon to fix. Other than that, this is the best first party accessory you can get for your shake-free footage!

Product works great, HOWEVER, Gopro needs to improve the way it is mounted. We could not believe the door has to be removed ... even brought it in to Best buy for clarification. Yes, you must remove the door ... which is not easy ... and therefore run a risk of breaking the door. Perhaps their next generation will address this serious over site. We returned it.

As much as I loved what this product could do, the fact that it could do it only 20% of the time made me return it. I'd love to own it but I will wait till Gopro figures out how to make it work 100% of the time. I guess they need to work on the hardware some more....too bad, it's fantastic when it works. Doesn't work well on motorcycle, speed causes it to shut off.

I bought the Karma Grip to pair with a new GoPro Hero5. The concept is great! However, I regret buying it. The first Karma Grip that I purchased had a strong "Vibration" to it immediately when I went to use it. So, I returned it that day. I used the next Karma Grip for a shoot, and I had issues with it also. Sometimes it wouldn't control the GoPro Hero 5. It's supposed to turn the camera on/off, start/stop record, change modes, etc. Though Intermittently, it doesn't do any of those things! The second time that I went to use the Karma Grip, It wouldn't power up. That's not good when you are on a shoot! This tool is useless without power! Also, you only have 15 days to return the item at Best Buy. I tried to return the Karma Grip about 20 days after purchase, and they will only "Exchange" the item, and you are referred to the manufacturer at that point. I would not recommend this product.

    Worst Gimbal Ever

This gimbal has extremely limited movement. You can't rotate the gimbal sideways hardly at all, which is a problem if you're jogging or hiking as you naturally will allow it to rotate. Also, after about a week, the gimbal has stopped recognizing the camera, or perhaps the camera has stopped recognizing the gimbal... but either way, the controls on the grip aren't controlling the camera. This is my second Karma grip and both have done the same thing. GoPro keeps RMA'ing them but they just dont work. I wish I'd have purchased an Osmo from DJI.

Tried using this just walking around the streets of Philly, it couldn't keep up. It would get stuck in a single position or would decide a 45 degree slant was down. Don't think it is worth the money.

    Awesome Stabilizer!

First off, just want to clear up the issue with loud motor noise. There should not be noise coming from the servos audibly. If you hear noise, there is a balance issue or your grip is broken. When I first powered my grip up with no camera inserted, I thought, great, this stabilizer is going to ruin my videos with the noise like other reviews had mentioned. But then I attached my Hero 5 Black to the grip and the sound went away. Everything about this grip is amazing. the interface with the camera, controls, as well as battery life. I love how the camera completely integrates with the grip so that it feels like the grip and the camera were built as one piece,. Other reviews have said the battery life wasn't very good on the grip, which in all reality I think it's the perfect amount at least for what I was doing. If you conserve battery and power the grip on and off when on ski lifts, the battery will last a full 7 hour ski day. The battery could be longer but everything comes at a price. If the camera didn't get controlled by the grip you would get more battery, but on the converse if the camera is controlled by the grip, the battery life is shortened. I'm glad gopro chose the latter. I was able to record some footage with the stabilizer and it is truly amazing at what GoPro has done!! I really couldn't be happier with this product. If you are on the fence about purchasing this item like I was, just buy it. You will not be disappointed.
