Customers often highlight the Karma Grip's video quality, stabilization, and ease of use. The gimbal and its compatibility with GoPro cameras are also appreciated, along with the added benefit of charging the GoPro while in use and the inclusion of a protective case. However, some customers have expressed concerns about its battery life, price, motor noise, and size, as well as the fact that it is not waterproof.

Must have tool for video stabilization

For years, stabilization has been the biggest problem for my day to day video recordings and this solves the problem in a big way. This is now always with me whenever I bring the GoPro. This is a must have accessory if you own a GoPro. Rock solid stabilization. This thing doesn't budge even when I am shaking the grip really hard! And who can better do the integration with GoPro cameras besides GoPro themselves?

I love my GoPro karma grip. The difference between handheld and the gimbal is absolutely amazing! So smooth and beautiful and really can bring your filmmaking to a whole another level! Check out this video I made comparing the handheld versus the gimbal! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPYFOicj3DQ&t=2s

I just got mine in yesterday and I absolutely love it. Most of the time I edit music into my films, so a slight hint of motor noise is no issue for me. Most of my videos are of me snowboarding, skiing, or doing other outdoor activities where my voice wouldn't be able to be heard anyways.

Horrid charging but I'm still keeping it.

Another fatally flawed product from GoPro. Can't understand how the engineers there keep getting things so wrong lately considering where they started. The execution is ALMOST great. The gimbal does what its supposed to. You get inedibly stable footage and the camera controls are right on the handle. Just one problem, It took over 10 hours to charge from dead. 10 hours for less than 2 hours of usage?!?!?! How exactly are you supposed to use this thing away from a socket? Of course GoPro has another "super fast" charging solution you can purchase at and additional cost. I'm still keeping it because there isn't anything else out there that works as well with the Hero 5 Black. I'm guessing GoPro wont be around much longer so this may be my last purchase from them even though I love their cameras.

I have a dji osmo mobile and couldn't get it to work with my hero 5. I bought this as a more rugged alternative and have been more than pleased. It works beautifully and reliably and has upgraded my video quality immensely. Battery life has not been a problem on long hikes in cold weather. I have been a GoPro customer for a long time and i will continue.

I don't know what people are talking about, I think they are just trying to discredit gopro. The Karma grip is quite, unlike the osmo's fan, and works fantastic. My point is it's a great product and is going to do all my video tours, I love it.

Needs to improve

Grip worked as expected (great stable video) but failed after being exposed to 120 degree temps in the Grand Canyon. One of the encoders stopped working causing unit to shake and vibrate. Best buy was excellent and replaced unit without any questions. Note: due to encode failure unit could not be calibrated. I think the encoders are vulnerable and their reliability needs to improve. I bought the 2 year extra warranty since I feel it's a 50% chance of unit failing again. By then, the technology will change enough to justify new purchase.

Before Karma Grip I got 3 axis gimbal from marketplace and none of them I had success, i tried bands, mounts etc.... When i knew the best buy have this product available I just went in a store near my house and had all my problems solved. It's really amazing how fits perfectly on gopro 5.
Thanks

Before the GoPro Karma grip I tried to never hold a camera in hand because I knew the footage would be JUNK!!
When editing this video I had forgot that I was holding the camera:

No Joystick? Motor Noise?

I was super excited to get this product especially since I had to wait forever to actually get it. First off, the construction is really nice, smooth plastic and clicky buttons. Box is nice. The product sucks for getting real shots though. The handle is huge, its built for a gorillas hands. It doesn't have a joystick which means if you want to get creative with the pan the tilt you are out of luck. It literally takes half a day to charge for like 70 minutes of use. The motors make enough noise to ruin quiet shots, you can always hear them churning and buzzing in the background and is not really compatible with any other standard sized cameras like the Yi camera or other generics. I will be returning this product. Stay away.

I thought this was going to be a killer product, but turned out to be very over priced and not worth it.
Key points...
- First of all, the displayed screen is half covered due to the handle.
-No option to move position via device, very tedious to change from position other than straight forward.
- Battery is alright, don't get why a lot of people complain about it. Solid 3 hours, perfect for amateur usage.
- Don't listen to reviews that say the device makes a noise, since they clearly did not test it well enough to realize the gimbal is virtually silent.
- SO SO SO over priced for what you get. Get a cheaper alternative. Or just get a DJi... you'll be getting a camera and a stabilizer all in one.
- Transfer rate through usb is horrible, regardless of processing speed of your computer.

ZERO Sound Quality
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The product itself works for taking very smooth video - HOWEVER if you want ANY sound - this is not the product for you. The way the Karma holds the Hero 5 it covers the Microphone totally so you have no sound. The only sound you get is the low level hum of motors in the Karma itself working to stabilize the camera. GoPro should have enabled the USB-C port at the bottom of the Karma to be used for an external mic but I guess not... such an obvious fail. It could probably even be fixed with a software update - another fail.

Smooth footage marred by broken buttons

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I bought the Karma Grip over other 3rd party gimbals specifically for its ability to control the camera. However, the buttons to power on the camera, start/stop recording and change shoot modes do not work. GoPro Support hasn't yet responded to my email asking for a fix. On the other hand, the footage you get with the Grip is remarkably smooth. I'd keep it if GoPro can come up with a fix for the buttons, otherwise it's getting returned.

HERO4 Users Beware
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Beware that the Karma Grip sold by Best Buy ONLY supports the HERO5, despite what the product description says. Best Buy originally had photos on the product page showing Karma Grip with a HERO4. Those photos have since been removed. I was not happy when this was finally delivered and I couldn't use it out of the box .
Best Buy customer support first told me to exchange it at a store for a HERO4 version, but as of the time of this writing, Best Buy DOES NOT carry a HERO4 version. Eventually Best Buy customer service told me to just return the whole thing for a refund because they couldn't help me.
If you buy this and want to use it with HERO4 your only option right now is to buy the harness directly from GoPro (not currently sold by Best Buy) for an additional $30.

My issues with the Grip is when you are walking, a "bounce" is very noticeable (Shot at 4k24p)
Yes it is much. much smoother than holding the camera buy itself, but the bounce is just annoying.
Running with it is ultra smooth oddly.

Failed to connect to Hero 5 after 3 weeks no solution after months. Please Google "no connection between hero 5 and karma grip" before buying. None of the supposed solutions work for my grip or hero 5. There is no solution provided from GoPro
