Customers are satisfied with the Karma Quadcopter's ease of use, camera quality, and value for the price. However, concerns were raised regarding battery life, GPS signal reliability, and its susceptibility to wind. The lack of obstacle avoidance was also a frequently cited drawback. Improvements in these areas would enhance the overall user experience.

I watched this package for almost 2 years to see it go down to a price that would not jeopardize my marriage! Many asked why I wanted this instead of a mavic pro or spark or phantom or other drone. I watched all the videos comparing them. I read all of the reviews. I wanted this because of the package. You get a $300 camera, $250 stabilizer, and basically a drone for free! All the others have mounted cameras that are not useful unless you are flying the drone. You can take this one anywhere do to it’s ability to detach and use as a regular go pro camera! The only issue that I have had is that it would. It locate the gps location and so I had to fly and land without the guidance, but it is so easy to fly that it was not hard. It would be nice to have object avoidance, especially when returning to you to To land whenever the battery is low, and if it would follow you, but those are not make or break points to me. A few tips..
1-make sure that it is updated before you fly it!
2- it will not work with google Wifi (I had to use my neighbors)
3- use the flight simulator to practice before use! It is very easy to fly
4- get an extra battery (flight time is only 18 minutes)
If you’re like me and are relatively new to the drone world, it is so easy to fly and so cool! I love that I can use the go pro camera and stabilizer separately! I would recommend it to anyone!

First, let me clarify something. Best buy says the maximum range on the Karma drone is 3200 ish feet. Not completely true. There is a setting in the Karma remote that allows you to disable the "safe" distance option.
I have personally flown the Karma successfully about 5600 feet (a mile is 5280 feet) before it decided to automatically return to the take-off point. And by the way, it was very cool to see it autopilot itself the entire way back to me. Once the drone is back in range of the remote touching any stick will allow you to resume control.
So on to the main part of the review:
The Karma drone package is by far the best deal for the majority of people. For $1100, you get the drone itself, battery, gopro hero 5 black camera ($399 value), gopro stabilizing stick (actually very cool in and of itself, $299 value), and a few other attachments.
The camera of course can be used separate from the drone; and let me tell you, that camera is very cool. It is waterproof to 30 feet without a case, can be voice controlled, touch screen (with on screen editing functions), and of course video that rivals more expensive camera systems.
The handheld stabilizer is much more useful than I thought it would be. It, along with the hero 5 internal antishake mechanism, result in a butter smooth picture even while hiking, mountain, biking, etc. Let me tell you, it makes a huge difference watching footage during mountain biking without and with the stabilizer. Without the stabilizer footage can be nausea inducing. WITH the stabilizer, it was like watching the star wars speeders flying between the trees.
And guess what.... the Karma drone WORKS PERFECTLY! Yes, that's right, none have fallen out of the sky since re-release.
I'm getting about 18 minutes of battery life. However, the Karma will return to you with about 2 minutes of battery remaining, so expect about 15 minutes of useful flying time. (Let's see, 18-2 = ... well you get the idea)
The battery charges to full in an hour. I bought two extra batteries and will buy an extra charger once they become available.
Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. It's really the drone purchase that made the most sense for me.
Hopefully this helped!

This is a solid drone that came with a GoPro Hero5 Black. The gimbal system is exceptional! There is absolutely no camera movement when stopping the drones flight whereas other drones don't keep the camera level when they pitch up to slow and stop.
This drone is amazingly quiet. My dog is usually wary and keeps his distance from other drones. Karma was so much quieter he barely noticed it flying near him.
It comes with a stick on which you can mount the gimbal for very nice hand held photos and video. I certainly can't argue with the GoPro Hero 5 Black video quality. I've been using it in 4K and the video is really nice!
The Karma's controller has its own integrated screen so there is no messing around with pairing and syncing up a phone to the drone and controller.
The only drawback with this drone is the flight time. I have averaged only 18 to 19 minutes per battery charge. While that is enough for my purposes most days (with an extra battery, of course) it would be nice to have the flight time of my 3DR Solo which gives me almost 30 minutes of flight on one charge.
This is a solid drone aimed at GoPro enthusiasts but it certainly works for the typical hobbyist.
I do wish they made prop guards for the Karma. I'm looking for a 3D print file to make my own if need be.

I'm an amateur drone pilot getting his feet wet on this topic, so please take this review as such...
I had previously bought a DJI Phantom 3 drone as my first unit to get into the drone world... Although I'm sure it's a great drone, it was really a hassle to turn it on, update the firmware, getting a phone/tablet handy to see what you're filming... so I ended up selling it without ever flying it.
I just became aware of the existence of the GoPro Karma a couple of weeks back, and the second I saw it I became in love with it! This drone is extremely easy to use: just turn on the remote control (which btw looks gorgeous) and you're ready to go! Each step you have to follow before putting this thing in the air feels so much easier than on the Phantom 3!
Don't get me wrong, this unit costs more than double of what the Phantom 3 costs... However, for this price you not only get an awesome (and foldable!) drone, but you're also getting the latest GoPro camera, the Karma Grip which is an awesome complement to the camera, and also a backpack!
All in all, I absolutely love this drone. It's easy to fly, the camera is probably the best one out there, the controller is like a mini tablet, and it comes with a backpack and the grip!

I was in the market for a drone, after hours research I decided on this product. I have no issues with this product. It’s easy to fly and captures the best footage. I would recommend this product for anyone looking to purchase a drone. My reasoning for choosing this product over let’s say a DJI product is as follows. This drone comes with a removable, hand held gimbal which means, whenever you don’t feel like flying you can walk around film, and still capture that nice smooth recording. This drone captures with a gopro therefore, you can take this gopro and buy other accessories, and do many things with it. Rather than just purchasing a drone with no other use than flying. Lastly, this drone comes in a backpack, so there is no need to purchase one in the future. Overall, this product offered more for the same price of a DJI product, and that’s why I chose the Karma Drone.

This is the best drone for the money. I wanted something that was easy to use and also high quality video. The GroPro 5 is the best camera on the market so to pair that with a drone was the best deal ever. I was concerned never having piloted one, but there is a simulator on the remote that allows you to practice as much as you possible want before taking flight. There is alot of people saying you only get 10-12 minutes out of a battery, which is false, I have been getting 17 or so the last 2 minutes it auto-returns to home so as to not fall out of the sky. I have tried to crash this thing and it is just too easy to fly.

This is my first Drone...and I'm so glad I chose the GoPro Karma!!! I've used their cameras for some time now for all kinds of outdoor activities. Now for a the new perspective...the above view...it's totally awesome!!! The Karma has everything you need (except the SD Card...don't forget that), is very user friendly, easy to operate, and fun for all. I'm already planning spring and summer video and photo sessions hiking, mountain biking, and diving...it's gonna be fun!!!

Buyer Beware, Experienced Pilots Only

My preface is that this review has as much to do with warnings, instructions and customer service as it does the product itself.
The Karma was my first drone purchase. Yes, I got sucked in by the GoPro brand (I like their cameras). I thought the entire package was tempting. If you are an experienced drone pilot, you can skip on past this review as a lot of what I have to say you'll likely chalk up to being commonsense.
When opening the case and setting everything up, you are told to go through a simulated flight experience on the controller. After that, you are free to fly. That's it. That's essentially all of the warnings and dangers associated with the device. You are told to calibrate it for the first time, and that includes holding the drone and spinning in a circle to calibrate its compass. If you don't have a GPS signal, it will require that you place your finger on the controller's touch screen to fly in Expert Mode. Nothing tells you what Expert Mode entails. If you are in a designated no fly zone, you will be told on the screen (within certain distance to an airport). You can of course override this if you wish. You likely will since any remotely metropolitan area will give you this message.
When you fly it the first time, it is truly awesome. When you look at the footage, footage you likely haven't seen before (i.e. my neighborhood from a 200 foot altitude) it's amazing.
Let me take you to what happened to me. It's about my 50th flight. I'm on Lake Erie. I fly it twice in one day no problem. The third time, I'm told to go in Expert Mode. I was just taking some photos of the family with the drone over the water, not flying it great distances, and figured this will be quick and easy. I get the drone over the water and things went haywire. The drone seems to be flying on its own and then I get a warning on the controller "Thumbstick input not detected, Karma attempting to land in place." Well it was over the water. Luckily, I get it over land, but I lose the video feed, my controller goes black and then I get a 3 minute countdown timer. I can't see the drone, I run everywhere. At the end of the timer, i have a screenshot of the last image from the Karma. It says its 184 feet to the east. I end up searching the nearby area (about 184 feet away) for 5 hours to no avail.
I call GoPro and tell them what happened. (I'll cut the story short) and they tell me the controller had connection with the Karma for 2 miles; implying it was two miles away. "Interference" likely caused my issues. I was never told what interference causes issues with the connection. I was told I didn't perform a pre-flight calibration (was never told I needed to do it each flight). I learned that the drone will only fly in place (hover in one spot) with GPS signal. I had NO idea. I just thought the GPS was for bringing it back to me at the push of the button. I learned that without GPS the drone will be extremely susceptible to wind (their website claims it can withstand some 22 MPH winds, well, that's only with GPS). So in essence, I flew it on Expert Mode and the breeze of the lake blew it away.
I tell you all this because GoPro does not tell you this information before you fly it. I'm sure people who actually care to read this will tell me it's my fault because this is common knowledge, but GoPro has the burden of telling its consumers how to fly their drones safely. (Not only that, they're too expensive to just lose). GoPro customer service was responsive in that they talked to me, and I get it, they don't want to replace every drone that's ever lost and why should they believe me, but they do a poor poor job of teaching new users how to use their products which causes some of these problems.
Bottom line, unless you are an experienced pilot (i.e. this isn't your first drone) DON'T BUY IT. Stick with another brand, such as DJI, which builds in additional safety features into its drones.
But if you do buy it, please please do a lot of internet research so you can learn from others' mistakes. You cannot rely on GoPro to provide you with all of the information you need.

I've only flown my Karma 5 times, but like it. It's easy to set up, and simple to fly. I have an Iris+ that is cumbersome, and lacks the FPV monitor. Having the monitor built into the remote is a great tool. The Karma is pretty light, and doesn't handle the wind well. I flew my bigger Iris in 35-40 mph winds, and won't attempt to launch the Karma in anything greater than 10-12 mph winds.
Having the gimble and gopro included in the package is nice. The gimble does a great job on and off the drone. With the stability feature in the camera, and the smooth gimble, the video is incredibly smooth.

Despite of the last year recall and the bad reviews this drone had in the past, I adventured myself to give this drone a chance, I have to say that I had little hiccups to pair the controller and the drone itself, however after trying with Go-pro costumer service they figured it out, it was simply getting out of places that were surrounded by routers or strong WiFi signals...furthermore, It is an awesome drone, easy to fly, powerful and the Hero 5 black is just flawless. I had the bundle and yes it is pricey but having the GoPro Hero Black 5, Karma Drone & color display controller (no need of smartphone to have a flying display like DJI), Karma Grip and backpack case is the best deal you will ever have on a Drone. My only concern or the only thing I would request for the next Karma version is to add sensors! for obstacle avoidance, other than that I don't need anything else. I recommend this drone.

I got this drone for my fiancé for Christmas. It has been an amazing experience learning to use it and starting to fly. I am the owner of both DJI Mavic and 3DR Solo advanced Quadcopter Drones. I decided to purchase the GP Karma because the bundle value. I had been wanting the Karma Grip and a Hero Black so a few hundred extra for drone really made sense to me because my love for aerial videography.
The Karma is amazing in its simplicity and design. My VERY favorite part of the drone setup is the controller, its super convenient and very nice.
You can literally get your drone unpacked and in the air in less than two minutes. That cannot be said for my other two drones.
Flying performance is really good and on par with 3DR but not as good as Mavic. I also wish the Karma had a few more autonomous modes for cinematic shots. Maybe in a future firmware update?
HERE IS MY ONLY NEGATIVE and main reason for not rating 5 stars....
The battery life is really bad for a Quad of this quality. It is literally 12-14 minutes --- THATS IT! So get two, three or more if you want extended flying.
The Karma Grip ia AMAZING and the Backpack is awesome. This is one of the best deals on the market in my opinion for capturing great moments on video!

Absolutely love this drone. So easy to fly and the controls are super responsive. The color and clarity of 4k video is great. I really like the clamshell controller. It feels right at home in your hands and the large screen is perfect. The Karma grip is well built and the stabilization works amazing. Looks like the video is taken from a jib, so stable. No more shaky videos!
I also think the price just makes sense to get the Hero 5, the Karma grip and the Karma drone for $1100 is a steal.

I bought this as a family camera for a lot of the active things we do. I realized in my research that there are better drones out there, but this is a system that allows so many different applications that you can't get at the same price with any of the other drones.
This is our second GoPro camera we have owned and it is so much better than the Hero 2 that we replaced. They have done a lot of improvements since then.
It is easy to learn how to fly and I was happy to find that replacement propellers are only $20 since I had a few learning accidents in the first week.
When flying in windy conditions, be prepared that the horizon will tilt due to the drone's compensation for a crosswind. Like I said above if I was only looking for a drone with a camera, I might look at different model, but I have found a lot of different ways to use the drone, and the karma grip to get some great photos. From mountain biking with the grip mounted on my pack to holding the grip and chasing my kids on the beach skim-boarding and taking great photos that would only be possible in the past with a helicopter for hire. We have been loving it.

Of your looking for an overall package the Karma is a great option. Being able to move the camera and stabilizer from drone to karma grip is great. It's a very versatile setup. If your looking for just a drone and don't care about the versatility however I wouldn't recommend karma. As far as a drone it is definitely not as advanced as many others as similar price points. Options such as the DJI mavic pro and phantom 4 offer far more features and advanced tech.
Also fair warning. If gps is unavailable DO NOT fly unless you are in a wide open space. Not only will the AI features such as auto return and land not work but you risk communication loss between the drone and the controller. I had mine for roughly 3 weeks when this happened for the first time and the karma started to drift than veered hard left without any controller input.
