GRINDHOUSE double feature is better together!

Just when it seemed like a healthy number of gritty grindhouse garbage was being regularly reissued on DVD, Tarantino & Rodriguez hit the big screen with a brand new dose of both spoof & homage to the way-out world of fantastic trash cinema. From the phony trailers by rad folks like Edgar Wright, Rob Zombie & Eli Roth to the appropriately "missing" reels in the middle of each flick, justice is surely done to the genres & sub-genres that were so educational to all the writer/directors involved. Even down to the point when Tarantino's DEATH PROOF starts to feel slow after the slam-bam of PLANET TERROR, which would be appropriate for the second feature on a double bill back in the 60s & 70s.
Made to enjoy!

I bought this to replace the DVD versions. Got it for a killer price on sale, this is a good film library builder. Grindhouse refers to the movie houses that used to play all the schlock/B-moives that came out.
I liked Death Proof (Tarentino) better than Planet Terror (Rodriguez).
Either way Rose McGown killed it in both flicks and that alone is worth the purchase, as well as Kurt Russel's performance (why aren't these actors working more??? Come on Hollywood wake-up).
Planet Terror is also of the horror gnere of injects humor into the film, paying homage to the less than stellar films that did it purely by mistake or didn't know they were so schlocky that it became humorous.

Its a MOVIE about MOVIES

Its just a quality through and through and it stand alone, doesn't need any help. However, it makes you wonder what would happen if planet terror was an actual movie that was taken just 1 notch more seriously, with just one slight pinch more backstory i think it would have been something even more amazing, but that was not the point of this joint endeavor. But these guys are just showing off in this movie, lots off tips of the cap to the master John Carpenter and to day and time when special affects were done a bit differently and some would argue better. If you like The Thing, Dawn of the Dead and or the french connection you will enjoy this movie for certain.

A Rare / Misleading Product from Best-Buy

I own both blu-ray versions of Planet Terror and Death Proof. When the original version of Grindhouse was released, this was a must add to the collection. Unfortunately it is not, and there is some misleading advertising on this blu-ray.
It is NOT a special edition of Grindhouse as advertised both online and blu-ray.
It is Disk 1 from the Planet Terror blu-ray and the disk from Death Proof repackaged together in set.
This is pretty disappointing and I would return this if I could. Best Buy should do the right thing and either pull this or provide the product ~ i.e. Special Edition ~ that they advertised.

Most audiences decides to opt out of this double feature in 2007 and its great to see it on blu ray. Its fun and sometimes ridiculous that plays homage to its source material of the 50s and 60s. Two different films but both merit a viewing. Audio and Picture quality is great.

You get 2 movies for the price of one. This movie is a fun throw back to the grindhouse days of choppy & really messy editing with dirty grainy film. So be warned it looks cheezy on purpose at times. The 1st movie is planet terror a campy, crazy zombie style movie & as that movie finishes you get some funny fake trailers in between before the start of the next movie. The 2nd movie is death proof, a more serious dark movie, which hols up nicely for its actual stunts used in it.

Really fun movies. This is the best way to watch them because all the fake 1970's grind house movie trailers and the in between movies intermission are included just how it was presented in the theatre. If you buy both separate you will not get these. If you buy this online you will NOT get the black slipcover like it shows in the photo just a heads up...I returned my copy to the store and had to find a place that sells them with the slipcover.

I remember seeing this in the theater with friends in college and it was a BLAST! They released both movies seperate years ago which was okay but it was missing the GRINDHOUSE feel. This gets those 2 parts together finally with some missing reels added in that was missing from the 2 previous editions sold separately. This is a must own for ANY Horror, Tarantino or Rodriguez fan. They should do a new one together.

I really like this set, and bought it to replace the DVD's. I prefer Tarentino's movie the Rodriguez one, but both hit high marks for different reasons.
Don't know why Rose McGowan and Kurt Russle don't get more work???
I really like the tension that Kurt Russel's character developed through Death Proof. Very good bit of filmaking.
Planet Terror hit the notes on the schlock side of it. Got this for an attractive price which made it a no-brainer.

Great double feature, however, I am very bummed they opted for lossy audio for Death Proof. The single release had hi-res audio, where as this version doesn't. Otherwise, its good bang for your buck. I ended up returning it when I realized the audio issue.

I am probly one of the VERY few that have an appreciation for the "grindhouse" genre of films. Mostly cheaply made films that were made in the mid-1960's through the early 1990's. Tarintino is also a fan of said genre. Tarintino/Rodriguez made a concerted effort to make a film that looked & felt like the old grindhouse films of that era. while not compleatly successfull, it does bring about a wave of nostalgia for those now almost forgotten days

This is a great set! Both movies are entertaining (and really underrated in my opinion) and what really makes the set are the bonues features. They include all the original fake movie trailers that were in the original theatrical release which alone make it worth it they're hilarious. This set seems to be hard to find these days and I was really happy to find it available in my store!

I had a great time with Grindhouse. It was a bold idea to try to bring back exploitation films and their style to the modern era. While it's not 100% successful, I still really enjoyed it. The fake commercials and trailers really make it for me. Put together with a real affection for this subgenre of film, I highly recommend Grindhouse.

The advertised product is likely not the one you’ll be getting. The case contains two discs, one movie on each disc, not the theatrical experience it advertises. No phony movie trailers, either. I reached out to Lionsgate about this. No word yet. Caveat emptor.

I saw this when I came out in theatres, and loved it. Had both movies on DVD but decided on blu Ray. Only issue I had was you couldn't tell if there was any up conversion compared to the original DVD release, and the "missing reels" still came up whereas the DVD had those sequences. Otherwise a great movie set and good buy.

For those that are looking to purchase this in hopes of having both extended versions included in this Blu-ray then know you will be disappointed. These are the THEATRICAL versions which include missing reels such as the "Lap Dance" and a few other scenes that were ONLY included in the SEPARATE releases.

Caveat emptor--Let the buyer beware! The discs in this set DO NOT match the description! They appear to match the content for the Extended and Unrated Planet Terror release and the Extended and Unrated Death Proof release. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU ARE EXPECTING WHAT IS PRINTED ON THE BOX!!!

The listing on the back of the case is incorrect — it claims this set contains the fake movie trailers as well as a variety of other content not on the discs. It only includes the trailer for Machete, not the others. It appears the people producing this edition reprinted the back of a completely different Grindhouse release.

I love these two movies and their fake trailers. This blu-ray set contains the grindhouse feature as it was shown theatrically in theatre's and it is very fun to watch. The picture quality is great and the sound is even better in high definition. There is also plenty of special features on the second disc.Highly recommended
