I love this software because it makes our taxes easy to do ourselves. Most can get by with the basic version but I had some itemized deductions and this version made it easy to do properly and has a check for mistakes feature at the end which is a benefit so we can avoid mistakes. You can reach out to an advisor to get questions answered and thru the software check on your refund updates. Really worth the money. Finally if you use it every year it asks you questions based on previous year so you don’t forget anything.

With the many recent changes in tax laws, plus changes in my personal financial situations, I found myself longing for the days I could just copy the 5 boxes off my W2 into a 1040EZ and wait for my refund. Now I'm making spreadsheets throughout the year, tracking costs, determining whether certain expenses can be deducted, and waiting at the end of January for all the forms I need. Luckily, once everything is in hand, the task of actually doing the taxes and filing them is made simple with H&R Block's tax prep software. Since I used the online version last year, there was no saved file that I could import into the program for this year. Luckily, I have a pdf that the program was able to upload. I was also able to upload the pdf of my W2 from my work easily, saving me from unnecessary errors transcribing the data. My wife's W2 came on paper, so I had to type that in myself, then frown as I watched the estimated refund turn into an estimated payment. Then I started putting in my various 1099's and started swearing, telling myself that this year I'd sock away more so that next year won't be so bad. Thankfully, every step of the way was guided by helpful questions to determine which of the myriad forms I needed to complete. While the software interface lacked a lot of the fancy graphics and kinder fonts, the utilitarian starkness of the design matched the blandness that is actually sitting down and doing your own taxes. Since I'm in the payroll business, I'm quite familiar with a lot of the actual taxation of things and where different values are placed, so being able to access the forms and enter data directly instead of doing the Q&A saved a lot of mind numbing steps. But when I got to parts that I was unfamiliar with (depreciation of assets and acquisition costs) I'm glad that there were some guide rails to keep me from going nuts trying to figure out the rules.

I have been using other softwares for the past 5 years and nothing compares the H&R. I am blown away how easy it was to use. The best features are the Worry Free Audit Check, it helped me see my mistakes and fix them properly. The next was how easy itemized deductions are to enter. The ease of importing information was a breeze as well, took all my info from another software and made life easy. I am now a H&R Taxcut consumer, period.

When I was just by myself living in an apartment with just a 1040 I always did my own taxes. Since I bought a house and had some other forms of incomes and other tax forms I was always intimidated to do my taxes myself and ended up paying someone $250-300 a year to do my taxes. This year I thought I would try to do my own using this software. Getting it in stalled and set up was very easy. In a matter of minutes I was up and running. I loved how I could just take a picture of my tax form and it would auto-fill most of the boxes for me. That was a big time saver from having to manually enter all those numbers and check and double check them. Then came the hard part (or so I thought) entering my house information and 1099-Misc forms and all that other stuff. It was shockingly VERY easy! The software guided you through it step by step. You entered forms, then it would ask you a series of questions, then you'd enter more forms and it would ask you more questions. Before you know it, you were all done! I literally just felt like I was answering a questionnaire in stead of doing my taxes. By the time it was all done I found that I had pretty much the same refund as I did last year when I had a CPA do my taxes for me. The only difference is that I didn't have to pay that extra few hundred dollars to have them do it and file it for me. I am definitely sold on this software and will be using it to file my taxes every year from here on out! Even if you're on the fence about doing your own taxes, I suggest you give it a try. You'll probably surprise yourself just like I did, and save yourself a bunch of money in the process!

My wife usually does the taxes so this was new for me. I made the mistake and did this with my email address. so I had to input all of our information. normally it would input your personal info from previous year. that said, it was self explanatory. just go thru and put in block numbers. the part that I had an issue with though was doing a 1099. not that its hard. but I made a mistake and somehow the first time thru it kept adding my income for the 1099 as if I had 2. and I could not delete out and restart that part. so basically additional income as an example was 5000$ but it kept showing it as 10000$. I could not get it to only show 5000$ so I ended up restarting a new return and it was corrected that way. for that reason, I gave it a 4 star. other then that issue, it was pretty easy and I was able to manage and get thru and file.

HR Block has done it again and made doing your own taxes extremely simple. I have used their products for over 20 years and this year continues to work seemlessly. The only caveat is that if you are a Mac user you will need a Windows license and parallels to run this edition as Premium and Business was not produced for Mac OS.

No Need To Pay An Accountant

This program is easy to use and has clear step-by-step instructions. It can handle all types of personal and business scenarios. This program more than paid for itself by not having to pay an accountant and I believe it put a little more money in my pocket. Be sure to do the updates. It is very reassuring to know that, if I need any help or have questions the answer is just a click away. This program simplified my taxes and was easy enough that I didn’t even need any help that the program offers. Seems you can get answers to most all your questions on your taxes. I think the hardest part of doing my taxes this year was getting all the paperwork together, no taking extra trips to the accountant with things I had forgotten to bring in the first place. It is as if the accountant came to my office and had everything needed at her fingertips. It seems this program covered everything an accountant would ask or need to do your taxes for you. If you have a small business like mine, you can do your taxes and have instant results (rather than waiting weeks) on how much you might owe.

Compares favorably to my past tax software

I normally use another tax program that I have used for the past decade. This was my first time filing with H&R Block’s software. I’d previously resisted trying H&R Block because I believed it to simply be a way to upsell their brick and mortar tax services. I discovered that actually isn’t the case. Although additional H&R tax resources are offered, it’s no more intrusive than offers made by other tax software programs. Like similar programs, five free federal e-files are included. State returns are free to prepare but there is an additional charge for state e-filing. The H&R interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. I initially didn’t like the fact that the program utilizes separate icons/paths for the personal and business versions of the program. I came around when I realized I also didn’t have to skip past all the non-applicable business questions like I did last year when completing personal returns for family members. The program can import income and other tax information from online resources, past tax files, accounting software suites and even PDFs. Similar to most programs, H&R is easy as long as you don’t have a very complex tax situation or have to complete forms manually. I have a few unique business tax situations that I couldn’t find guidance for in my tax prep software last year. I also couldn’t find it in H&R’s software this year. Programs like these seem to be geared towards simple or moderately complex returns. The resources are there for more complex or unusual tax scenarios but they require more manual input. I’m strongly considering using an accountant this year for that reason. E-filing is easy and the program includes free audit support. The program assesses and indicates the risk level of an audit. H&R will assist with audit preparation, correspondence and an H&R rep will even attend the audit with you. Like other programs, you’ll need last year’s AGI as well as banking info if opting for direct deposit. I like H&R Block for personal or routine small business tax preparation. It didn’t quite answer all my business tax questions this year but neither does the competition. It proved to be pretty good for filing simpler personal returns for family members, even with extensive itemized deductions. I compared a return prepared in H&R block against the same return prepared in my other tax software and the refund numbers were identical. I guess that’s good for both companies since they both offer refund guarantees. Users of other tax prep software should have no problem navigating through H&R Block’s software. The interface is very familiar to my other tax software. I can definitely see myself using H&R block in the future, especially for personal filings. The numbers match my other tax software and I like the scope of the free audit support. I also plan to compare the cost of having one of their in-house agents assist me with the non-guided topics that I need to complete versus using an outside accountant.

    Easy filing for complicated taxes

Ill start by saying my taxes tend to be quite complicated and lengthy every year. I do a lot of work on the side and deal with multiple 1099’s and business expenses each year not to mention college and kid claims etc. I have always filed my taxes myself but this is the first time I used H&R Block software to do it. I absolutely love the import function for previous years taxes. I was able to impart a .pdf of last year’s return and it populated the fields with no issues whatsoever for this coming year. The explanations if help is needed were excellent and answered my questions without me having to go further or elsewhere to find my answers. The software did a wonderful job of guiding me through each section. E-filing was also very simple. I’m glad I went with H&R Block this year and will continue to file with their software in the future. I highly recommend this software if you want filing your taxes to be simple!

Got the wrong version, but not user friendly

So I'll start off by saying I got the wrong version of this software, this is really for small business owners while I really just needed the personal version with the ability to add a 1099. Beside that fact, this software is MUCH less intuitive to use for anyone who isn't a tax preparer or CPA. While these forms LOOK like the real IRS forms and may be easier for those who know what they are doing, they inundate you with tons of fields and circumstances that do NOT apply to you. That's where these online filing apps have an advantage, instead of having to have an online chat with an H&R representative, their software has that DISCUSSION with YOU in real-time as you work through the application. Did you get married this year? Did you buy a house this year? Did you have investment income this year? Depending on your answer, the online software then exposes ONLY the fields you need to fill in. I graduated with an accounting degree and quit accounting because I hated forms like these, and I couldn't complete my taxes using this software. I was able to finish using an online competitor within an hour. While someone who is used to doing taxes may find this a better deal, especially with the free filing feature, I'll take finishing within an hour effortlessly and spending roughly the same to e-file any day.

Taxes can/are irritable and confusing. I'm always trying to simplify this tedious process as much as possible and save money in the process. For the past few years, I stuck with "other" online solutions that fit my needs, but this year I had a few more extras to account for due to my independent contracting. This software did the trick. Just as easy as the others with a few extra key features that are worth the cost of admission. Being you receive 5 free e-files, it is an option I intend to keep purchasing going forward. Simply put, easy, intuitive, paint-by-the-numbers tax software that simplifies the process for a tax dummy like me. Recommend.

Unfortunately I am underwhelmed with the features and look/feel of the software. I had never used H&R to get taxes done so I thought I’d give it a whirl. However, a step or two into the process and I was tapped out and exhausted. In comparison to other avenues this software which requires memory on your computer and installing needs to pull ahead leaps and bounds for me to think of using it again. I was super interested in the idea of purchasing the box like a subscription and using each feature it outlines but WOW it was like doing taxes on paper. I wasn’t even old enough then but I remember my mother doing them and it was a headache for her. Not for me unfortunately.

Installation was painless. I was sent a link and downloaded a copy. It installed without a problem on my Windows 10 Home PC. Today when I opened the program, it notified me there was an update and after clicking OK, it installed in minutes and I was up and running. I have a pretty simple return, but I do have a 1099 misc that I need to enter. I didn't use the software for last years return, nor did I have a PDF of my return, so I scanned the 6 pages. It took a few minutes for the upload/import of my PDF, but it worked. It said scans don't work, but mine did. FYI, I scanned it using a Brother MFC-J4620DW. I'd say about 80% of the return was completed with the import and the questions I had to fill out were quick and simple. I had a question on the 1099 misc because it didn't appear in the first set of choices. I clicked the help button and entered 1099 misc and it didn't actually say it, but it gave me enough info to realize hitting "next" would bring up additional choices. It was listed on the second list. It continued until it was finished and then asked me what state I needed to complete. It gives you 3 boxes for 3 different states. I just needed 1, so piece of cake. It does the basic pop up boxes asking you for permission to download then install the state software. Once installed, it fills in the information from the federal return. It gives you the opportunity to check any income/deductions for the state level and then it finishes as well. All in all the software works very well and the help sections made it easy for me to advance to completion.

I have been using H&R Block software for about 10 years and do have some background in accounting. The software has gone rapidly downhill. Two years ago, it way overcalculated my liability and I had to use a different software. This year, it calculated my liability as zero, which was definitely wrong. If I used H&R Block's info I would have been audited and had a huge bill. I had to go with another software again because I didn't want to get in trouble. H&R Block customer service is terrible and would not give me a refund, even when I explained the drastically different calculation with H&R versus the other software.

Major glitches in the software and the inability to file my state. Incorrect information was also imported from the previous years. Their customer support is non existent and unconscionably bad and dangerous. The errors in their software can get you in trouble with the IRS It has been over 8 hours over the past few days and counting and still no help. I am put on hold for over an hour and then the call drops. When I reach someone they give me a case number and promise that an escalation team will call. They don't. I 've been waiting 4 days. When I do get through to an escalation team myself after hours of waiting they put me on hold and then drop the call. I cannot file my taxes I am going to have to get turbo tax and start from scratch. Never again.
