Best software for taxes as it’s simple enough to use, same quality as quicken, but less expensive

Not laggy. -Fair pricing on processing state returns. _____ *Neutral: -Poor use of screen real estate. -Not as intuitive and helpful as TurboTax. _____ *Cons: -None This was my first time doing taxes with an H&R Block tax software and it was a pleasant experience for the most part. When compared directly against TurboTax, my go-to tax app for the past 20 years, there were a few noticeable shortcomings, but there were no major deal-breakers or hair-pulling experiences. Installing and updating the software on my Windows 10 laptop was a breeze. The download and update speeds were good and I experienced no glitches or crashes. Thanks to the helpful import function, I was able to bring in my 2019 tax file from TurboTax into the H&R Block software and save a bunch of time. Not everything was carried over, such as my driver's license info, but there were fewer than three items I had to fill out again. Due to the comprehensive list of tax situations the software walks you through, I was able to find everything I needed to correctly submit my federal and state returns (joint married with child). Submission of the federal return is free and included with the app but the state return carried an extra charge of $19.95, a common price charged by most websites and tax apps. With that said, a few improvements to the software would've made my experience better. For one, there is a terrible waste of screen real estate. On my 1080P laptop, I have almost three inches of empty space on both the left and right sides of the screen. And the fonts are relatively small and cramped and not easy to read. Things get worse when you leave the main app screen and open another window. For instance, when I click on "Reports > Review your entries," a small pop-up window opens that you can maximize. When maximized, the fonts become even smaller, blurrier, and again, there is a lot of empty wasted space. Although my experience navigating, searching, and filtering within the app was kind of underwhelming and irritating, it ultimately fulfilled its raison dêtre - correctly filing my taxes after looking for errors and sending them out quickly so I can get my tax refunds asap. *** Would I recommend H&R Block to friends & family? *** It depends. To someone who's doing their own taxes for the first time on a computer, I would recommend TurboTax instead for its nicer design and layout, helpful tips & tutorial boxes and prompts, and better UI design. For someone who's done their own taxes many times already, then I would say yes to H&R Block, especially if one can find a better price or deal on it. Because functionality-wise, both programs are pretty much the same. As for me, I'll most likely return to TurboTax for the 2021 tax year.

This product is perfect for doing what is needed even though it may not have all the perks.

I’ve used H&R Block Deluxe with State for several years and like that it’s easy to use and integrates with several W-2 providers so you can download load the info and not have to manually enter it. It lets me get the job done. I also like digital download delivery, as it lets me get to work right away.

Have used H&R Block for 8 years now and found it to be very good product at a far better price than other tax programs that do exact same thing. Their Customer Service service has also been very good and believe it to be handled here in the US versus overseas. Would recommend its purchase.

I have found the deluxe version of H&R Block tax software to meet all of my filing needs. My taxes have never been extremely complicated, but I do have investment income. It allows you to e-file your federal taxes for free. Unfortunately, you have to pay an extra $20 to e-file your state taxes. That’s the only feature that I don’t like.

The program did what it was supposed to do. A warning, however, when this program is downloaded digitally, it is supposed to come with a product code in the e-mail that Best Buy sends to you. I did not get this and had to spend a half hour on the phone with H&R Block, TWICE!, to get a PROPER code that allows one to e-file a federal return.
