This game is awesome!
Can be a little intimidating to newcomers at first, but the developers added a god mode for those having trouble with the game, and it doesn't punish you at all cus they know some people want to experience the story.
Every run is a different layout, different group of enemies in each room, different powerups or rewards or boons (special abilities bestowed upon you by the gods of Olympus), and different character encounter opportunities. Took me 12 runs before I discovered Eurydice was someone I could speak to, so plenty of surprises.
Upon death you lose everything you collected and go back to the beginning, except for Darkness, which can be used to power up your stats permanently.
Different weapons to unlock as well. Every character is well voiced and very fleshed out and interactions with them feel very satisfying.
Definitely give this game a try, is worth every penny.

Let me just say that this game is absolutely amazing. I've already purchased this digitally back in September on both my Switch and on Steam so this is more of a display piece rather than something something I intend on playing. I have no prior experience with rougelites/rougelikes but this game has hooked me in. It isn't easy and that's not the fault of the game - but of the genre itself. Do not be dissuaded by the difficulty, the game will become easier as you continue your runs. I adore the included art compendium and the OST download. This is a purchase I do not regret.

Great roguelike game that you need to keep at it to steadily gain strength. Dying in progressing in this game which fits thematically. So it's HARD at first before becoming manageable.

By far one of my favorite games of all time. I am not particularly into roguelikes or bullet hell type games, this game is a mix of both but in a way that works beautifully.
The gameplay is fantastic and gives you plenty of options in build diversity, the soundtrack is immersive and mesmerizing, when getting ready for another run, sometimes I am caught off guard by Orpheus and find myself sometimes just sitting next to him and hearing him sing. The story however is where this game takes the cake, it is so immersive, so many interactions between characters and relationship specific dialogues, and every time you die there's always something new waiting for you in the starting area.
I've failed probably 70 runs by now (the final boss always gets me) and completed over 10. This game is fairly difficult but don't let these numbers fool you, as I mentioned before I am not really all that great at roguelikes and bullet hell games. Most people probably will not run into this kind of difficulty getting the game cleared.

Such an amazing game! There’s always something to do. Even though you die a lot, it does not take away from the enjoyment of the experience. The story, dialogue, graphics, weapons, and level design are simply superb. It’s not hyperbole to say that games this good do not come around too often. If you enjoy playing rogue-like games, I guarantee you will have fun. You definitely will get your money’s worth.

This game is overall just great. I've never played a Roguelike or Roguelite before this one but now I'm looking into others more since this one is so fun. The artwork and graphics are amazing, the voice acting is great and the story is great, music is awesome too. Even though you die a lot, and for me especially I mean A LOT, it still progresses the story and you still feel like you're making progress as you can upgrade things back home before making another run and those stick. The boons and stuff you get during your runs don't stick and will vary each time. Overall it's just a blast to play. Try it, you might like it.

Just like the games Bastion and Transistor, this is a very high quality hack-and-slash game with amazing voice acting, addictive gameplay, and a visually appealing art style. I purchased this after reading a couple of reviews, and this game lives up to the reviews if you like this style of game. While I cannot compare this version to the PlayStation or Xbox versions, the graphics look very good on the Switch and having this game portable (meaning I can play it while the TV is getting used by the family) is an awesome feature for the Switch version. Highly Recommended!

One of the Best Examples of a Video Game

One of the best examples of a video game I can think of; solid in every aspect.
I'm not a big fan of rougelike games, in which you start at the beginning of the game upon each subsequent attempt, however Hades counterbalances what could be a frustrating feature by "rewarding" your frequent deaths in small ways. Each attempt will net you rewards that you can spend on permanent buffs, and upon return to the hub you will be greeted by fresh and engaging conversations with several NPCs.
Gameplay is tight and easy to pick up. Learning enemy patterns will be the biggest hurdle, but a clearable one. There are several weapons, all well balanced, that ensure there will be a playstyle that meshes with how you want to approach combat. An average run will last between 20-40 minutes, so it's great to hop in and out relatively fast.
Above all of this, however, is the story which is what truly kept me coming back for more. I was always excited to speak to the NPCs, who I have yet to hear any repeated dialog from. They even comment on your last run, remarking how embarrassing it must be to have been felled by a simple goon, or how impressive it is you defeated that boss!
The world of Hades feels alive, and the game paces itself well. It's relatively simple to learn, and great for both short and long play sessions.

The best rogue-like game I have ever played. The soundtrack, writing, voice acting, gameplay and art style still impress me every time I play. I've already purchased the game twice and I still cant get enough. It's also important to note that this game allows for cross save between Nintendo Switch and the Steam versions which is AWESOME. It also includes a miniature art book inside the case as well as a voucher for a digital soundtrack download from Bandcamp.

This game breaks new ground. Never have I wanted to pay attention more to the dialogue and storyline, which, by the way, includes supreme voice acting and humor. The richness of the story through mythology, humor, and wonderful writing has kept me playing for the long run. Great replayability, challenge, fun. Unlike anything else out there.

Amazing ARPG. The controls are tight and the gameplay is rewarding. The voice acting is immersive and the story is compelling.
This game takes the aggravating aspect of rogue-lites and makes it enjoyable, I dont mind messing up because of the options and rewards I have for my next run. I really recommend this to anyone looking for randomized arpg fun, great in short sessions.

I was looking for a game that would occupy me while I traveled across the country on multiple flights. Hades really hit the sweet spot for quick, easy to grasp, and fun entertainment.
You don't "lose" in Hades. When you die, the story continues and NPCs interact with you based off of that. In fact, you're expected to die often. You grow stronger after each death and you're able to push forward more as a result.
The voice acting and story is actually quite good. It won't go down as one of the greatest games of all time, but it's very entertaining and that's all I cared about.
Get the game. You won't regret it. It's a fun hack-and-slash that brings satisfaction after every enemy defeated.

Hades is a one-of-a-kind rogue-lite that sets the bar for creatively combining wildly different genres together and using their strengths to complement each other in unexpected ways. Its blend of satisfying, twitch-based action with countless modifiers to build replayability, dating simulator-esque character interactions, and turning failure into a thing you look forward to as a means of progressing the story coalesce to an experience that is more than the sum of its parts. Hades skillfully navigates the millenia-old baggage of ancient characters, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens that feels like they’re straight out of some animated series that’s way ahead of its time. I’m now over 50 hours in, 70 escape attempts deep and I can’t stop thinking about my next trip to Hell. Hades is an experience I never want to end.

While the core of the game is action-based, it's the dialogue, story, and the building of the world and its characters that will make you keep going back for just one more try... Because you will die. Repeatedly. Early and often. But because you make incremental progress, because the penalties for failure are so minimal as to be almost none, and because the gameplay is crisp and responsive, dying seems less like a punishment and more like another opportunity to engage in new conversations with the characters in your home base. A very lovingly crafted rogue-lite, and a must-play for Switch owners.

Never really got into dungeon crawlers before, but Hades was great for the following reasons. I definitely loved the art style and all the excellent voice-acting that added to the experience. The plot was interesting enough being based on Greek mythology, and I wish there would be some DLC or something. :)
The only con is the repetitiveness of the base for the game, beating dungeons over and over again to gather materials to spiffy up your house and upgrading weapons. One of the great things though is that you will rarely have the same movesets during each playthrough, but you will definitely have some more favored boons over others.
