12,000 BTU Haier is Worth only $50

This is the worst piece of junkI ever seen. It's like a Mustang with a 2 cylinder engine. is has no power, the BTU says 12,000 but runs like a 5,000. It claims it will cover 650sqft but it's only good for maybe 150 sqft. plastic breaks easy and it's not easy to instal if you follow the instructions you will be lost! The should have used number codes to match up or colors so it will be easier to assemble. Well after putting it in and taking it out of the window about 5 times when I finally got it in nice and snug the Motor fan would make a thumping noise. I spend 3 or 4 hours trying to get this in good only to have to pack it up in it's worthless box and return it! This was on sale for $209.00 I would rather buy 2 or 3 $99 units versus just 1 unit. This one is only good if you want to feel like a cool fan is blowing in your face. Junk!!!!

I bought an 8k version of this air conditioner at walmart for a little over 100.00 1 yr ago.. Thought maybe this air conditioner was too small for the room since I have high ceilings... Nope... This AC is as loud as an AIRPLANE... You can't watch tv with it on and it does absolutely nothing... My hubby never ever complains and finally told me its gotta go back... There is no reason we should have to sleep with a fan, AC and wake up sweating.. It has a temperature gauge for the temp in the room... It said 82 when I put it on.. I shut the door and all the windows at 8pm last night... By midnight the temp said 77.. there is no reason that after running for 4 hours this AC should have only dropped the temp of the room by 5 degrees when the door was not opened. Don't ever waste your money on anything that is made by haier !!

This is a poorly made product from a company with virtually no support. After opening the package and preparing for installation, I noticed there were several parts missing. This is a large unti and was sitting in the middle of my living room unable to be installed. I called customer support and told them I needed a solution to the problem right away, their only suggestion was to take it back to the store or wait three weeks for them to ship the part. The person I spoke to was rude and very difficult to understand. Thanks to their poor assembly I had to carry it back down three flights of stairs and return it to the store. I got another unit and I insisted on checking it before I left the store and what a surprise; this one was missing parts as well. Different parts, mind you, so it is unlikely that it was some sort of mechanical error during packing. I finally got one with everything, installed it (which is a nightmare in and of itself) and only when it was installed did I notice that the aparatus used for opening/closing the vents was not there. This isn't a part you attach yourself, the mechanism for opening and closing the vent was never installed. Spend the extra money and buy a better brand, I will never purchase a Haier appliance again.

    Terrible to Install, Poor quality

When the A/C unit was taken out of the box, the front cover/grill was popping off the steel frame and the product did not appear to be made of high quality. Plus, when we tried to attach the top grill, the screws actually would not stay in place to secure it and we are pretty able bodies when it comes to assembling items. We never turned on the unit as after all the hassle of putting the rack on etc and then seeing the poor quality, we returned it. A lot of hassle!

    good a/c for the price

not the easyest to install. screws for top bracket were not fat enough. I had the same issue with a goldstar a/c i bought about 3 years ago. I had to go to lowes and buy short fat screws. you have to remove the case to install this a/c not that hard to do. just takes time. works good. quiet. Some people say its cheaply made but its no worse then the other brands on the market. top screws to atach the bracket are not fat enough need shorter fat screws or drill in new holes with the case off. I had to go and buy larger screws. I also have an goldstar a/c and had the same issue the screws were to small to attach the top bracket. you have to remove the case off this a/c to install it. need to remove a screw under the filter and a screw on the right side to remove the front, then there are two plastic tabs you got to move to remove the controls from the front. the controls remove out the front of the front, then you have to turn the controls sideways to remove them. lay that off to the side. you will fine a screw on each side of the a/c it needs to be removed. you will find two screws in the lower bottom corners in the back. remove them. now with the a/c laying on the floor you will see a handel on the front of the a/c. it's at the bottom. you can pull the insides of the a/c out. after its out. then you can install the side window fill pannels. you have to side the flex part into the end of the plastic peace. make sure you have the right ones so the screw face the inside of the a/c from the folding flap window filler. once you have these installed on both sides and the top bracket on. you can now put the frame into the window. leave the inside guts of the a/c on the floor. put the frame in the window and put the window down on the a/c frame. ajust were you want the a/c to sit. pull the two side fold out window fillers into place. now you use 3 of the longer screws into the bottom of the a/c. they go into the lower part of the window frame. then take screws and screw in the window fill pannels. top and lower corners. the scew holes of the window filler pannels should be facing inside. after its all in you can now pick up the insides of the a/c. they slide back into the case. you can now reinstall the two side screws you removed. next go outside and screw in the two back screws. If its on a 2nd floor use a ladder. Any higher then that you may want to leave them out. come back inside and make sure to use the proper cord cut out. Ether to the right or under the a/c. I had to use the side one with my old house.(woodwork was in the way.) line everything up. make sure you have the manual vent switch lined up or it may brake. also turn the controls sideways and move them threw the front of the a/c now push them back into place you should hear them click. after thats installed now you can push the front back into place. reinstall the one screw in the front and reinstall the screw to the right. plug in a/c and hit the reset switch. next turn on the a/c. all you have left to do is install the battery into the remote. It's not as easy as some to install but with the way it screws into place you dont have to worry about someone moving it out of the way to brake into your house. This isn't a good one if you want to remove it every winter. Your better off to get an a/c cover to cover it. none wants to put new screw holes into their windows every year.

    Lasted two years, then quit.

Mine just died after two years. There's a five year warranty, but after calling Haier to try and get it serviced, found that their warranty service was next to impossible, and would cost just as much as buying a new one of a reputable brand (I bought this unit for $299.99 in 2008). The compressor gave out on mine - followed two days later by the fan unit (which I was relying on for some ventilation until I received more cash to pay for a new unit!). The unit's construction was fairly poor also - the case was flimsy, and required lots of work to keep the fan from scraping against the case, even when installed using the provided directions. Save yourself hassle and frustration, and spend the extra money to get a better unit.
