This movie is a must-watch for all action movie fans. The movie has a good plot and iconic action scenes. The movie goes a bit too long, but it is highly recommended for anyone who considers themselves a fan of action movies.

Hard-boiled is the ultimate John Woo / Chow-Yun Fat collaboration. Chow plays an uncompromising Hong-Kong cop who "works" together with an undercover cop (an EXCELLENT Tony Leung) in the triad gun-running organization. Now, when I say "works," I mean "launches thousands of bullets, slugs, and explosive projectiles into HUNDREDS of mafioso baddies." This film has a RIDICULOUS amount of gunplay. Pretty much everyone you see on screen dies at some point. Those that don't die often come perilously close to dying, before getting up and moving on as if nothing had happened. The gunmen in this film have magical powers that enable them to fire about 100 rounds from a Beretta clip without having to reload. And the top good guys seem only vaguely concerned about the loss of innocent life -- at a teahouse, or a large hospital -- except for tiny baby life, of course -- as long as they get to kill the top triad guy. And the story... well... not incoherent, but completely implausible at many points. Technically speaking, the movie is perfect. Aesthetically speaking, the same is true, with the exception of the music, which is extremely cheesy at times (the sax that suddenly kicks in during "emotional" moments is unbearable -- is that some kind of HK movie thing, or what?). Such negatives are distracting. Your ability to ignore such distractions will ultimately determine if you give this a 5 or a 9. Were it a little more humane, I'd give it a 9.

Hard Boiled is about two cops, Chow-Yun Fat's Tequila who is straight-laced and uncompromising, and Tony Leung's Alan who is secretly undercover in the organization of a Triad arms dealer. Tthe two men team up to take down the vicious dealer. The appeal of this film is not so much the story as it is the incredible action sequences. Realism is not the point here. John Woo, a former dance choreographer, choreographed the gunfights like a glorious ballet of bullets and blood. The violence, though gratuitous, stays within the confines of reason, and there are no buckets of bllood on the floor at the end of every scene. This film more or less defined the use of dual pistols in action scene, and it has never been done as well since. The film is presented in Cantonese with English subtitles or in dubbed English. I strongly recommend that you go for the original language, but the dubbed version isn't bad, since Some of the original cast contributed. This is a great film, and a very enjoyable one. don't miss out on it.

Enjoyable movie, lots of good action, good acting. This is a classic John Woo movie and all that you would expect from his directing. Extras are not super extensive but I also was more interested in the movie itself than extras. A decent transfer for how long ago the movie was released. Would recommend.

One of my favorite action movies, Hard Boiled never lets off with the action. As long as you don't get hung up on things like "why hasn't he reloaded yet", then I don't know how you could ever get tired of this movie.

This is a great action packed movie. At a few times it seems slow, but not for long. Easily one of the best action movies out there. Watch it and for once not be disapointed.

This is a good action packed movie for those who like gun play. The story is about a cop named Tequila(Chow Yun-Fat)who wants to bring down some gun smugglers who killled his partner. The music is kind of dull at some points, but the guns blazing, and things exploding will drown out the music. The acting is not as strong as the action. With all the talking that's going on you can't wait for more action. If you like action this one's it.
