I'm not sure it's possible for Metallica to put out a second-rate release. It's not for nothing that not a single soul on the face of the Earth argues they're one of the greatest metal bands ever...and we're talking Sabbath, Zeppelin, Deep Purple, etc. Who cares that they're mis-typified as "thrash"?, doesn't mean a thing. Along with Rammstein, these guys pumped oceans of blood back into an entire genre that was teetering on the brink of slow decline. *Hardwired* continues the legacy and cements it. Not a cut but rocks and rocks HARD. Now, to nitpick, it wasn't necessary to make the deluxe edition a 3-CD affair, it could just as easily been a two-fer, but hey!, at Best Buy's price, you're getting a great deal anyway, two CDs for less than the price of one. If you're a metalhead and miss this one, you need to go into exile!

Excellent album that has flavors of Metallica from the early days up through Reload era material...but still manages to sound fresh and original instead of like Metallica impersonating Metallica which is how I felt about Death Magnetic (even though that album had some decent tracks)

This is by far the best Metallica release since the Black Album. I thought that Death Magnetic was a step back in the right direction after the weird time that brought us St. Anger, etc, as well as the abomination that was Lulu, but Hardwired fits well with the older music but at the same time sounds new and fresh. My only negative comments would be that Lars Ulrich over-drums at times and someone should really take the wah-pedal away from Kirk Hammett; however, those minor quibbles don't really detract from what is a really good album. Also, get the Deluxe 3CD edition - the additional tracks including the other new studio track, "Lord of Summer" are well worth the additional spend.

    **** 1/4 album worth buying for $9.99

While not an album that will go down in history as the greatest ever it is very good. Get the 3 disc deluxe album for $9.99 on Black Friday if you can. It is worth fighting for. Plenty of good material that will justify your purchase. "Now That We're Dead" "Halo on Fire" "Here Comes Revenge" and "Murder One" are the best tracks in my opinion and they weren't the singles released to radio to push the album. The bonus discs are full of tracks that would have been b-sides on singles. Good to see "Lords of Summer" get a proper release. If you're looking for an album that sounds just like Master of Puppets... Then listen to Master of Puppets. Different era with the original bass player. And if they did that it would only diminish the original and offend all the Cliff Burton fans.. They've already done the trilogy thing anyway writing Unforgiven, Unforgiven II, and Unforgiven III.

Best Metallica album in 25 years (possibly longer)

In short this is Metallica's best album in at least 25 years. Some of my favorite songs include: Atlas, Rise!, Dream no More, Confusion, and Spit Out the Bone. This album is like a combination of all their albums into one: has trashy songs, song similar to "Sad but True," and songs from their Load/Re-load era. Sound production quality is also much better than Death Magnetic. Only a few negatives including that some of the songs in the middle of disc 2 sound too similar to me and wish the album had a better mix of shorter-longer tracks (most tracks are over the 6:20 mark here).

A great value purchase, regardless of one's preconceived notions. If you like or love Metallica unconditionally, then you already own this. If you prefer their first 4, and possibly their last one, "Death Magnetic", then there's some meat on the bone for you with opener/title track "Hardwired", "Moth Into Flame", and the disc 2 album closer "Spit Out The Bone". It rekindles bits and pieces of "Kill 'Em All", "Metallica"(the 'black' album), and the aforementioned "Death Magnetic" more than the rest of their catalog, and is, pound for pound, a METAL sounding Metallica record. The bonus 3rd disc of cover songs and a live record store performance of mostly oldies, makes it a solid package worthy of inclusion into every open-minded metalhead's collection.

I love this album because it takes influence from just about every other Metallica album to date and created an absolute beast of an album. There's something for everyone on it. Everything from the thrashy opening track of Kill em' All the heavy and slow chugging anthem of Dream No more reminiscent of Leper Messiah from Master of Puppets all the way to the spine crushing scorcher of Spit out the Bone that sounds like a track off ...And Justice for All, this album truly gives every Metallica fan something to look forward to!

Best Metallica album in almost 30 years

Hard to believe these guys have been at it long enough to say this, but 'Hardwired...' is Metallica's best album in almost 30 years. I've been a fan since 'Ride The Lightning' and was OK with their mainstream breakthrough, the so-called Black Album in 1991. 'Hardwired...' has more classic Metallica feel than that or anything since. Elements of latter day Metallica sneak in, but the fire from old is there. Amazing, considering how far into their career they are. Highly recommended for anyone that's EVER liked Metallica.

This is the type of (double) album that many Metallica fans have been craving for years. In my opinion, this is Metallica's best work since And Justice for All. Album is filled with excellent, non-commercialized tracks that sound great and show both maturity in their progression while re-discovering their raw energy from the 80s. Second disc is my favorite, but the entire package is filled with solid tracks. I ordered the 3-disc version and the 3rd disc is well worth it for the live tracks alone.

We would have had albums like this and death magnetic earlier. I actually like this one better than DM by far, but DM beat anything with bob rock involved by a mile. The lyrics have some serious meaning past the singles. They did a video for every song. These guys were vilified for the napster thing. Now that you can record YouTube. They made a video for every song. They have everyone an album for free. I support artists whether they sell 5 million or 500. It's the best album of 2016.
