Take good pics but do not put high expectation on it, it’s still a very small cmos sensor so it won’t create great photos like Sony , canon or Panasonic cameras’ 1” cmos quality. It’s faster than the phone’s Own camera but still behind Samsung dual pixel auto focus .

I bought it, still not in love with it. It's carrying issue. I can't sling into a pocket and be ready to go very quickly. It's kind of heavy and not friendly to fumble fingered clods with sausage fingers. First day I went to aim and shoot and the camera separated from the phone. I grumbled. I nearly returned it. I adjusted my grippage (much like the delicate balance when dunking cookies into milk) and shot some nicer than the crummy built in camera. So for the sake of the future of Moto mods, make a car stereo head unit I can slap my phone into. That would be way cool and super useful. I will not buy any of the other mods. I don't like that much luggage frankly. Folks, if you need a camera, buy one. You will have better battery life lugging two devices with their own batteries.

    3 weeks in Alaska

The jury is still out. I bought the Hasslebad for my Moto Z Play just before leaving on a 3 week trip to Alaska. The camera took better pictures than my cell phone alone, mostly because of the better zoom. I didn't find the interface with the camera that user friendly. Maybe it was may lack of experience, but I felt it was slower to respond than my previous point & shoot. However it was easier to do close ups than with that camera. (See the bee in 2nd photo.) Also, I kept getting things I didn't want popping up and shutting the camera off because touching the screen activates things you can't seen while you are focusing. It is hard to hold and manipulate the camera/phone while shooting without touching the screen. I was initially disappointed in the quality of the photos, but the information recorded must be good because they were easily improved by adjusting light and "pop" in a simple photo software program. I will use the camera again, but I will probably buy a point and shoot camera for the next trip. Would I recommend the camera? Maybe. It is a fun thing if sometimes frustrating.

This thing is incredible. You won't realize the true difference between optical and digital zoom until you have this on your Moto z phone. I used it to get crystal clear pics and videos at a soccer game, and I was near the top of the stadium. When I showed people my pics and videos they thought I was sitting in the front row at the bottom of the stadium, the zoom and quality are exceptional.

I bought this Moto Mod recently for my Moto Z Play because it was on sale for half off ($100 vs $200 MSRP). I wish I had this with me when I last went on vacation. It would have taken much better pictures that my phone did, even when I was taking pics of landscapes or other objects. While the Z Play does take good pictures, it's still not to the same level of quality as what the Hasselblad can. Once it was connected, I had to download a Moto Mods update, as it kept crashing without the update. The magnet to keep the camera attached is actually pretty strong, but you can wiggle it slightly. Besides that the camera does have the 10x zoom, and image stabilization/lock on (press the button partly down). The zoom feature is a bit slow to respond and sometimes can be tough to make small adjustments. The xenon flash is quite bright and I find the pics it takes are more truer color than the phone does alone. It's nice that the Hasselblad comes with its own carrying case to protect it while it's not attached. Overall, I think this is quite a great attachment for the price I got it, and would still have been worth it at the normal price for the >3000 pics I took on vacation. It's very straightforward to use if you've used a normal camera previously. I did not notice any real detriment to my phone's battery either.

Ok, so I ended up buying this because I accidentally got some chemical on my phone camera lens that permanently frosted it, which isn't bad an effect, but you don't want it all the time, lol. So I needed a way to use my phone to get clear pictures, and luckily it takes Motomods. The real zoom is handy and responsive, I feel the colors are a bit truer than the camera on the phone, easy to operate and some of the added functionality from the Hassleblad app is nice. The pictures it takes are smaller in size, I beleive 10MB vs 18 from the phone, for me this really isn't an issue and for some reason the Hasselblad photos seem crisper. Two biggest gripes, Since I needed a functional camera phone at a moments notice, I'm needing to keep the mod on at all times. This lead to quite a bit of work trying to find a case that would allow me to hang it on my belt like we used to do with the older, larger cell phones. Ended up finding what I needed at an Army/Navy surplus store. So really this is a gripe about the lack of accessories to go with an accessory. But, as far as the functionality goes, there are several apps that do not recognize the Hasselblad mod. Like FaceBook. I can no longer take a picture from the FaceBook app. You have to exit out of FaceBook, take the picture, and then go back to FB and post. Minor annoyance, true, but I was not expecting such things to be an issue and am a bit surprised that it is. So all in all if you like photography and would like a true 40x zoom, this is a great mod, but if you need to keep the mod "permanently" on your phone, you will find that traveling solutions and some apps will be slightly more troublesome.

Pros: Haven't used it for a long time yet I've taken many great shots with this camera. The zoom made a huge difference when I was at a party because it helped minimize my movement. I got decent shots in poorly lit room and the bright flash did a good job when I needed it. Cons: It sometimes takes a while to respond when I unlock the phone. The flash is sometimes too bright and oversaturates the shots.

I had been looking at purchasing this product for some time; a trip to the Olympics and a hundred-dollar-off sale caused me to pull the trigger. It does its job pretty well; the zoom works admirably (though it is in quantized intervals, so you can't zoom to both 2.0x and 2.1x. Maybe 2.0 and 3.1x). Image quality is about as good as can be expected with a 10 MP image sensor; the ability to take RAW images was pretty neat. By only real issue (especially at the MSRP price point) is that it doesn't have its own dedicated battery. It went through about 80% of my Moto Z Force Droid battery after maybe 200 shots. If you plan on using it for an entire day, bring a charger or backup battery.

This is an improvement over the phone's stock camera, at the price point of $299 and added bulkiness I would pursue a stand alone camera, as there are better options with more features for $300. As part of the Black Friday deal this item was bundled with the phone so I did not have to pay the $300 price tag.

I am happy with the purchase of this camera mod. I love my Z Force but the camera has been disappointing. It takes to long to focus and save the picture. This camera makes that a lot better. It saves the picture alot faster, although it does not focus much faster. I didn't realize how much I missed optical zoom until now though. The RAW format is very nice and make editing a lot easier. The one downside to this is on videos, if you zoom while recording you can very clearly hear the zoom mechanism in the background of the clips audio. Not a dealbreaker though for me because the phone takes better video anyway so unless I need the optical zoom I take off the mod and record with the phone camera itself.

How do you combine a high-end camera brand with a mid-tier phone? Answer: The Hasselblad Mod for the Motorola Z smart phone. Who needs this product? Anyone with a Moto Z (I have a Z3 Play) who wants a better camera “experience” out of their cheap smart phone. Counting me, that makes about 10 of us on the planet. The rest of the planet is buying higher end iPhones or Samsung galaxies with great built-in optics and smart software that makes good photographers out of idiots (dang it!). Folks like me, with over $10K in photography equipment are miffed that all these whippersnappers are taking “sufficiently” good photos (technically) with their smartphones while we haul our gear around trying to look relevant. This product gives us and our ego one last breath of life. Every time I snap this mod on my Moto Z, I become to bees knees again. The cat’s meow. The guy you call to say “hey, he’s a good photographer, have him shoot the moment”, instead of the snot-nosed kid with an iPhone XS and B.O. But, in reality, I don’t get better shots with this thing. I just LOOK like I do. And that’s why you should buy this thing. And three other technical attributes of it (humor aside): 1. 10x optical zoom. There is no substitute for a real lens (see example below). 2. The manual zoom controller. Actually, this is probably the reason to buy this mod: You can hold it like a camera and not have to take you view off the shot to play taffy with the viewfinder to zoom. 3. The manual shutter button (for the same reason as #2). Real world application. I went to see Paul McCartney recently and, anticipating (accurately) that they would not let me bring in my Canon SLR with a long lens, I brought the Hasselblad and the Moto Z. During the security screening, I showed them it was just a smart phone and they let me in. Even in my nose-bleed seat, I could get close with the big zoom and take pictures like a photographer with the form factor of a camera, not a graham cracker. The biggest downside: No strap method. The irony is that since you want to hold it like a camera, you want to dangle it like a camera. But it’s a smart phone and it desperately want to go into your jean pocket and it’s a good inch thick. I’ve MacGivered a long heavy rubber band strap to go around the thing so I can not drop it during a “shoot”. With that solution, I’ve just niched the market from 10 (nerds) further down to just me: A nerd with money, a giant rubber band AND a Moto Z. Anyone else out there? I thought not. Other downside: The elegant case is too textured to grab the thing out easily. But it’s elegant so you got that going for ya. Should you buy this? If you have a Moto Z the answer is unequivocally yes! Not because it’s a great solution, but because it’s a $200 Hasselblad AND you have a Moto Z. Take the savings you earned by buying a Moto Z and put that into a few mods like this BECAUSE YOU CAN! Also, you need friends and a platform to show you’re an endearing nerd that people want to know. This is an investment in *you*. Other notes: The build quality is top notch. However, I had one moment when it got confused with its lens extended and no control of the phone. A forced restart fixed that moment. Software updates seem to keep coming and I haven’t encountered this since. The new Moto Z4 is worth everyone’s consideration. I know of no other short phone that delivers so much value for the price. Add this Mod on for fun. I use mine a lot for non-studio work when I need a zoom and it makes a difference. In sum, The Hasselblad Moto Mod is a very niche product for those going on a photo shoot and want a camera form experience and a decent zoom and need to pack light. And to make friends.

I don't know what else to say. The optical zoom is incredible. I have a digital SLR, but likely will not use any longer. I used this mod for almost all my vacation photos, and the ability to zoom in and have such incredibly clear photos is something I haven't had with phone camara zoom. It doesn't have a wrist strap that I can tell, so you need to be very careful holding the phone/camara.

I purchased this Mod from Best Buy via a price match (50% off). So, it was worth $125 but absolutely not worth the regular price of $250-300. For that much buy a nice Sony point-and-shoot and you'll be happier. But, for $125 you get a very nice and feature rich Mod for the Moto Z. I've taken a number of photos and the zoom feature is excellent. The optical image stabilization is less so, however, and is a bit of a disappointment. The device does not have a built in battery, surprisingly, given the size of the Mod and so draws power from the phone - you'll need to have a battery Mod available if you take lots of photos as you'll run down the phone. The image quality is good and you can take RAW images which is nice for photo editing. The sensor is also small; given the cost of the unit (and the name) you'd expect something more than just a nice zoom lens. So, a good purchase at the right price point, but not for full price.

I was going on a trip so I decided to buy this for my phone. I liked the idea of it but wish it came with a bigger case for both the phone and the camera mod. It's easy to connect though and I was able to take great photo's. I'm not sure if it was the phone or me not reading the instructions but I had a hard time taking a photo with the mod. Overall it is a pretty cool gadget to have if you don't want to carry 3 kinds of cameras with you on a trip. However, I recommend taking a battery pack to charge your phone because the battery will be used alot.
