Under the oath of the same flag, two confederate soldiers, “Devil” Anse Hatfield (Kevin Costner) and Randall McCoy (Bill Paxton), return home seeking peace after tireless months of battle. The story-line opens at the Civil War Battle of Devil’s Backbone 1863 West Virginia and follows a family feud and numerous shootouts that finally end in 1888 at the Grapevine battle.. The film is typically period correct – language, clothing styles, equipment: both military and farming, building styles and most importantly the mountain people of West Virginia. The films story-line is well-told by a highly experienced troop of actors that deliver a memorable viewing experience. Unfortunately, this story is not a happy one but it does recount the quarrel between two mountain families that actively lasted 18 years but was never formally settled until the late 1914. The story is presented in three parts; Part 1: 102 Minutes, Part 2: 98 Minutes and Part 3: 89 Minutes. It is recommended the saga be viewed sequentially..

Very fast delivery was impressed and good deal on price.

This is a History Channel production and an elaborate one. I didn't know all the details of the rivalry and it's a lesson in letting go of grudges before they ruin your life and family. Very well done with stellar performances from Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton with lots of great supporting roles as well. Not to be missed.

I heard this story often growing up in Ohio, about 2 hillbilly families who carried on a feud for generations. I was never sure if it was true, now I know it was. This tells that story including all the hatred, hostilities and bloodshed between the 2 clans following the end of the Civil War. The movie is rich with history, drama, and romance- entertainment for everyone. I think it stayed as true as possible to what is known about these families with excellent storytelling and even better acting.

Kevin Costner was meant to play a cowboy....that's what he does best and he did a great job acting and producing this movie. This was a great miniseries and each episode left us wanting more. The miniseries won 5 Emmy awards including best lead actor for Kevin Costner and best supporting actor for Tom Berenger. Kevin Costner also won a Golden Globe award for best lead actor. Kevin Costner also won the SAG award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries.

Glad to get this solicitation again because I got BB confused with another seller that mkes movie shopping an awful and wasteful chore. Ignore that response. BB provides a focused search experience that is very productive. Elaboration is wasteful. BB is simply fine.

The film brought to life this epic conflict between to families. It hinted to the start of the feud with out saying exactly what started it. Leaving it up to the viewer to decide. Was it one or several events. My son loved the film it brought this conflict to life for him after reading about it in school. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in this conflict.

Sadly, what began as friendship, ended up in tragedy for the entirety of both families. Truly, truly tragic. Fortunately, both families are now back on friendly terms. Considering what they both went through, they do deserve that happiness.

I haven't got to see all of "Hatfields & McCoys", but what I have seen is awesome!! Love the westerns that Costner and Paxton have been in before and this reminds me a lot of those (Open Range & Tomestone). I bought this one based on what I have seen so far and on coworkers reviews of it; that's when you know it is a great film!

This is an amazing mini series. I really enjoyed watching it and found it very easy to get into and watch. They did a really good job keeping the wardrobe and the overall look of the mini series authentic. I was really impressed with it. I would definitely recommend it to others to watch its fantastic!!!

This is the best retelling of the story of Hatfields and McCoys that I have ever seen. The acting was some of the best I have seen from these actors in many years. The locations were amazing and the attention to detail on the sets was meticulous. Well worth the money to watch.

This is one of my family members favorite movie. DVD came fast, excellent quality, we will enjoy for many years to come.

Hatfields & McCoy's is based on the real life feud between the families. Has good actors that give some good performances, and provides lots of action. If you like Americana type history based movies, you're gonna love this one!

Purchased when it went on sale--couldn't resist the sale price as my husband had been wanting to own this for a while. He is a huge fan. As others have mentioned there aren't many extras with this, but it was worth the price.

When I saw this on sale I couldn't turn it down. If you haven't seen the show and you find a good deal like I did pick it up. You won't be disappointed. Not a lot of extras though. Overall great buy for what I spend (9.99).

Great cowboy flick. A little of everything plus some real history about the two families.
