Overall, a good buy for over the counter

Overall, a pretty satisfactory hearing aid for significantly less than the cost of the model available from the audiologist. The self-fitting hearing test in the phone app adjusted the hearing levels (one ear has significantly greater hearing loss than the other) quite nicely, and the performance of the units and the charging stand are quite satisfactory. One complaint is that the blue tooth connection to the phone app, which governs the hearing level settings, disconnects from the units- usually one or the other, rarely both at once- from time to time. At my settings, this is fairly easy to detect, and the reconnection process in the phone app is not very difficult. It has taken repeated tries to reconnect on some occasions.

You will go nuts with the app.

I could NEVER recommend this product. Absolutely the dumbest app ever invented for setting up hearing aids. First off it won't set both ears . It only sets up the Left and refuses to connect to Right. Good luck setting both ears. The process to connect both is Impossible and drove me nuts. And they have a picture of an elderly man on the box using this? No elderly person could set this hearing aid up with that horrible app. Really atrocious. Garbage! Poor app design! The designers should be fired! Don't buy this product. It will send you and your loved one to the Looney bin

    Hearing assist or better amplification

It appeared to be more towards amplification than assist even though it has four different modes and is not a substitute to real hearing assist in my humble opinion. But, It could be helpful for a minor hearing aid at a price 1/3 rd of the real hearing aids so I’m recommending yes below with the caveat.

    Did not work for me.

These did not work for me. I have moderate hearing loss at the high frequencies. I also got a pair of receiver-in-the-ear hearing aids from an audiologist. I could hear immediate improvement from the audiologist hearing aids. I did not notice any improvement from these hearing aids. Best Buy was great in returning these and issuing a refund.

Hi Stu, we are sorry our HA-802 hearing aids did not work out for you, but we are glad you were able to return them for a refund. It sounds like your audiologist was able to get you fitted with a RIC hearing aid for your type of perceived hearing loss. Our hearing aids are designed for perceived mild-to-moderate hearing loss. For higher-frequency hearing loss, a receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aid like the HA-CONTROL or HA-STREAM is better suited than a thin-tube model like the HA-802. We are grateful that you gave us a try, but more than happy that you found a hearing solution. hearingassist

Hi there! I understand you are experiencing loud sounds and whistling with your HA-802 hearing aids. Whistling is caused by feedback from the speaker of your hearing aid reaching the microphone and being reamplified. Here are some steps you can take to reduce whistling: 1) Ensure the thin-tube is not damaged and is secured snugly to the hearing aid body; 2) Try a closed ear dome as this will help prevent the amplified sound from escaping your ear when compared to an open ear dome; 3) Try a larger size dome that will provide a better seal of your ear; 4) Reduce the volume of your hearing aid. Poor customer service by manufacturer

Right ear device failed to boot. I made two calls to customer service of manufacturer which had no solutions or offers to replace the defective device. Left ear device did work but sound was never quite right (either too soft or too loud and ringy) although maybe that was caused by my poor hearing.
