I consider this one of the greatest animated films of all time! I grew up watching this in the 80s and have never forgotten about it since. The animation style and the soundtrack are just so good that nothing really competes with it in my opinion. On Blu-ray it's at such an affordable price that you can't afford to pass this up.

This movie is almost 40 years old. This was before Anime was a thing to watch. If you like the actor John Candy, then you will enjoy this movie, even though you only hear his voice. If you are having a hard time placing Candy, then think of Cool Runnings; Planes, Trains, and Automobiles; and Uncle Buck. I WOULD Recommend this movie to anyone who wants to watch a good movie.

I grew up in the 1980s and I was a big comic book collector and a big fan of animation. I couldn't see this in the movie theatre because it was rated R, so I had to wait until it was available on Vhs. This new Blu-ray looks absolutely terrific! It's a very funny film and I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of animation.

Saw this many times in the theater. One of my favorite animated films. NOT FOR CHILDREN. I have about five years of the Heavy Metal magazine that the stories were based upon. The film does a good job of translating them to the big screen. As with all source material, you do lose a lot of the story in the process. I would say the story of Den suffers the the most. The written story has a lot more content than is shown in the movie. A violent, action packed, funny early 80s cartoon that should not be missed by fans of the genre.

this edition has a good looking transfer of the theatrical cut, plus an extra cut, incorporating some of the production sketches and other elements for the cut that could have been... good for collectors and first time viewers!

Fun movie, interesting anthology structure, framing device of narration and segment introduction tying all sections together. Story is based on the same comic book source material as The Fifth Element.

This is an old movie, but the message is so ubiquitous. Everyone is in pursuit of this green ball which represent evil in every way. Some take in its form as a jewel, some see it as something to eat, etc. But no matter how use it, its accomplishment is the same.

It was considered a classic back in the day but stories dont hold much substance. Film may be better while watched under the influence!

This is a great 'cult movie' (or cult cartoon?) that some of us '50-somethings' might still remember. My wife had never even heard of it. I didn't know it was available on Blu-Ray until I saw it at Best Buy while looking for other movies. The video and sound quality are excellent, probably better than when I saw it on the 'big screen' in 1981.

Very fun adult animation classic. I have always loved the loose animation style and the stories are a lot of fun. Some of the connective tissue between the stories is tenuous (the green orb narrator connects the disparate stories together into a larger narrative). Definitely worth a view (or many) for anyone that loves modern adult animation.

Heavy Metal is a favorite from my early teenage years (BOOBS). The Blue Ray has the features from the original DVD like the Rough Cut and Commentary. Video is good but hard to tell if it is much better then the DVD because the animation was rough to start with. If you have the DVD it may not be worth upgrading unless you are a big fan of the film like I am.

This was a movie ahead of it's time when it came out. Kind of like the "Adult Swim" channel for 1981. It is a great nostalgic movie for the Generation X fans of the Heavy Metal magazine. If you also enjoyed the magazine The National Lampoon at the time, you may also enjoy this film.

I've been looking for a while for this movie on Blu Ray. I was lucky enough that they had it, and at a great price. Looks really nice in hd. If you've never seen it, the animation is NOT like what you're used to seeing today. As far as I'm concerned, the animation back then took immense talent. It's a lost at form. It's worth a look if you can get it on sale.

This movie is submersible, colorful, and well written. This movie MAY perdict the future though WAY off, it to me was an awesome movie and very entertaining in a way to me was awesome!

Old school animation and classic rock at its finest! I first saw this when I was 11 or 12 and at the time I was in awe of the way a cartoon would tell a very different type of storytelling and true 40 years later there still a bit of edge to this and worth a watch if just to see how much animation has truely evolved.

I was very happy to see this movie come up as part of another great Best Buy deal. It is a favorite of mine since first seeing it and a welcome addition to my collection. With great audio and video quality I highly recommend this HD version of it for fans of Heavy Metal.

I remember this movie as a kid. Recorded off Showtime or something on a vhs tape. Then giggling with my buddies like idiots. The stories still stand up well and the soundtrack is still killer. Great film with animation that just isn’t seen anymore.

I will be honest with you here, I have no clue what the story is about. I watched it while slightly inebriated with a friend, and then once more in a normal state of mine, but didn't know either time what was going on. It is however extremely mesmerizing, and fun to watch. I would highly suggest watching this with a friend with a drink in each hand.

I was actually looking for something to watch the other night and thought I owned it but after further looking, I only had the VHS. Ordered it and watched it a few days later. It was just as great as I remember it! Classic!!
