This wasn’t that bad. Definitely no where near the first two, but a decent watch. The 4K presentation is fantastic though.

This 4K Blu-ray of Hellboy (2019) is amazing. The video quality is superb, with excellent HDR and detail, thanks to the native 4K resolution brought to us by Lionsgate. The audio is excellently mixed, with plenty of powerful bass, crispy clear dialogue, overhead and surround sound. This Dolby ATMOS track really kicks major butt and is available on both the 4K UHD disc along with the standard Blu-ray. There is also lots and lots of special features included on the standard Blu-ray, which is worth checking out if you're a movie buff. I personally enjoyed the original Guillermo Del Toro and Ron Perlman Hellboy movies much more. Those movies were fun, action packed packed, funny, and creative. If you're thinking of buying this 2019 Hellboy reboot, I highly suggest renting it first due to all the mixed reactions from audiences. If you're just a straight movie buff with a 4K TV and a surround sound system, you won't be disappointed.

Now fans of Mignola's original comics may well like the fact that this version culls so much content from them, and yet the film is rather oddly structured, including the more or less prologue setting up the whole Arthurian element along with the nefarious, initially dissected, Vivienne Numie (Milla Jovovich), otherwise known as the Blood Queen. But after the film ostensibly segues to contemporary times, it first flashes back for a kind of silly rehash of the discovery of Hellboy (played by David Harbour as an adult), albeit this time with all sorts of supposed psychological angst stemming from the fact that Hellboy wasn't previously aware that his adoptive father Trevor Bruttenhome (Ian McShane) initially may have had a bit of infanticide on his mind. And in fact this Hellboy seems to rather desperately want to inject the kind of "gravitas" that has informed some other cinematic superhero adaptations, except that in this case that approach just kind of clashes, arguably comically, with the sillier aspects of the Hellboy character. But even after the flashback, the film then goes off on an apparent tangent involving an occult society in England that is seeking to curtail the activities of mutant giants. This part of the film ultimately is kinda sorta woven into the overall fabric, but it's both too disjunctive and frankly too misdirectional to ultimately work that well. , some may feel they've wandered into a previously unknown episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus. This is a film that is stuffed to its veritable gills and/or horns with subplots and supporting characters, and there's an onslaught of variably effective CGI at play as well, and yet this reboot seems to be missing one of the central elements of the at least relatively well remembered Ron Perlman — Guillermo del Toro films, namely: fun. The film tries to be "hip and happening", with Harbour is appealing enough in the role, but he simply can't erase the memory of Perlman, especially when he seems to be mimicking Perlman's very distinctive speaking voice. Hellboy offers an overly convoluted "origin story" here that of course ultimately ties in to the whole Arthurian aspect, and it does have a good deal of fun with various occult elements like witches, demons and shape shifters, but the screenplay (by Andrew Cosby) is simply too busy for its own good, darting hither and yon to try to give the viewer an epic with some psychological underpinnings, something that's perhaps a fool's errand when the focal character is Hellboy.

If I’m being honest, this isn’t a great movie, but it’s also not quite as horrible as everyone makes it sound. It’s really just very generic and by the numbers. There’s some really great design work and definitely feels like it’s pulled straight from the pages of the comic. The 4K picture and sound quality is pretty good. The set comes with some great special features if you’re a fan of seeing how these kinds of movies are made. Given all the issues to have occurred behind the scenes, I would’ve loved a director commentary on the film. The set comes with a digital redemption code, but is only usable for Vudu and Fandango Movies which I don’t use. Would prefer a Movies Anywhere redemption code.

Not Del Toro & Pearlman, But Not Bad

Not Del Toro & Pearlman, But Not Bad. This movie got a bad rap, it did not have the visual aspect or sense of wonder that are a staple of Del Toro but it was far from a bad movie. Pearlman was born to play Hellboy so it is hard to follow that act, however Harbour does a pretty good job of making the character his own. We are also introduced to some new & interesting characters never before seen that the live action world of Hellboy. And they tackle one of the most popular Hellboy story lines which probably added to the negative reaction from fanboys. If you are a fan of the first 2 movies and are not heavily into the comics this movie is worth a watch and will more then likely be enjoyable to you.

I'm a huge Del Toro and Ron Perlman fan. Yes, it would have been great to see their trilogy come to fruition, but it wasn't to be. It's a bummer, but is what it is. What we do have, now, is the opportunity to see a new trilogy happen. After watching this, I truly hope it happens. Nobody can ever take away the great things that Perlman, Del Toro, and Doug Jones brought to the table, but David Harbour has brought his brilliant iteration of Hellboy in a big way. I thought he killed it! I enjoyed this movie from start to finish! There was not a full or draggy moment, not did it feel rushed. The CGI looked great, the practical effects we're beautiful and the acting from everyone was fantastic. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and if some truly did not care for it, that is what it is, too. I feel like many crap on reboots because they feel it disrespects the originals they love. I don't see why both can't have their own merits. It's like the endless DC vs Marvel debate. Some insist only one or the other is worthy of their time. Again, I'm a big fan of both. Seriously! This was such a fun movie. I hope the negativity does not hurt the chances for a sequel or a possible trilogy, because I want to see more. I feel like this is a great one for anyone who loves brutally violent battles, strangely relatable disfunctional characters, or just 2 hours of nonstop fun. I hope than many many more will too. I recommend you buy it if you like Hell Boy.

Like most superhero movies, once we see one version of that character then that is the line that we hold it to. Sometimes it sucks and sometimes it is better. This one however had me at odds, because I di not want to compare it to the last 2 Hellboy movies instead I compared it to the comic book storyline and that me aprreciate it more. Go into this one with fresh eyes and just enjoy the ride. Del Toro's version was amazing and this one is ok, but it is good to see the character grace the screen again.

This movie is good through most of its time on your television. It has some rough areas in it that could have been presented differently, and does not have some of the players from the first two movies. The new Actor whom plays Hell Boy is just O.K. and that is all. The Actor whom plays "Father" , well should not have been chosen to play the part, he did a better job playing "The Manager" in another series of movies. So, it is a good movie to kill time until something else comes along.

I am disappointed that other fans of Hellboy, and fans of action horror didn't bother with this film. I had a lot of fun with it, it's far from perfect but it adapts the comics much more faithfully (though still lacks the beauty and atmosphere Mignola's art channels). It goes hard R on the gore and violence, it's a feast for monster lovers, and there are some gems hidden with in. But unfortunately the best parts are what this movie sets ups and later promises in a post-credits sequence. And that won't come to be because nobody came out to support this movie. That out of the way, yes the hard rock soundtrack is mostly grating. The film crams a lot into its run time and the editing really hurts a lot of the movie. Case in point, the great extra on this Blu is the full opening scene, not the truncated cuss filled narration that put off most viewers before the movie even got underway. You can also see the producer interference. Being a fan of Neil Marshall's work it's not far from his film DOOMSDAY, but it's certainly not how he would've edited it. There are casting issues, too. But otherwise, it's crazy action horror flick that is a ton of fun. As a Hellboy fan, I'm just disappointed that we won't get more Harbour Hellboy.

This movie, while I still prefer the original Ron Perlman in the part, was nowhere near as bad at what critics would have you believe. I would hazard a guess, and state that the fans of Perlman, effectively torpedoed this attempt, which is too bad, because David Harbour's take on the character was spot on. Color are vibrant but slightly muted, which fits with the overall tone of the film. Grain is present but not at all distracting. This is a fine re-boot.

So I've heard not so good things about this movie, but decided to check it out anyways. It's a bit rough at the beginning, but eventually finds its legs. It wound up being a super outlandish(in a great way) sci-fi action comedy. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would continue to follow the franchise if it wasn't almost certainly not going to continue. I am a fan of the Ron Pearlman run and would say this is just about as good as those were.

I love me some Hellboy, the different stories this movie uses is awesome. The fact it's going for a (meh) scary violent tone like the source material is great. Putting my personal bias aside, it's not a great movie. Some weird plot dumps here and there, story felt like it focused on Doc Broom and Hellboys relation and yes the makeup look really weird but at certain angles it looked pretty good. Other than that pretty solid movie.

For a completionsist and collector, it’s a good get. The movie is kinda hohum, and the cgi is okay, but it’s gory and different. If you’re a fan of the comics, it’s good. If you’re a fan of the previous movies, it’s okay. If you’re a fan of David Harbour and milla jovovich, it’s decently okay. I personally don’t think it’s as passable as initial reviews made it seem to be, but it’s not essential viewing.

another major achievement in the hellboy series. slapstick humor and hard edge thrills makes this film a good sci-fi fantasy pick. hellboy the hellish being from else ware has a twist of a horror character and heroic figure second to none. im am wondering what is the next realm in the series and happy to have seen the three parts g good part of my film collection.

Really enjoyed the special effects & the story was interesting. The usual end of the world scenario but kept me entertained. The Gore is what made me enjoy this movie the most. Something I wanted the older live action films to have. The graphic deaths fit the Hellboy theme well. The comedy was there too! Give it a go if you enjoy Bellboy comics etc.

Deep huh? This is just a fun film. It's escapist fantasy and if you go in realizing this, then it will be fun, fun, FUN! The picture and sound are quite good and the story and dialog or capable enough of keep you engaged. I liked it better than the two previous Hellboy films, both of which I own. Trust me...I know what I'm doin' when I'm reviewin'.

I found the movie to be entertaining, which is how I usually rate movies now, since I never feel like I can trust the critics as their expectations always seem to be unreasonably high. So if I find it entertaining I typically consider it a win. Could it have been better, the answer is usually yes, but I was entertained so I usually forgo the complaining.

This is my first steel case DVD and I like it! It arrived a few days early and in beautiful condition. I was happy that I could re-order it weeks in advance and it was delivered promptly after receiving updates to let me know the status. Those reminders let me know when it due in and shipped out so I could be on the lookout. Excellent service.

Overall I enjoyed this film. It had an interesting story I like the King Arthur tie in, and the Slavic elements are cool too. now people are going to dislike it because Ron Perlman isn't it or it wasn't directed by Guillermo del Toro. If that's you and you won't give it a shake then don't watch it otherwise enjoy I would watch again.
