Sleek Design and Vivid Colors
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hisense 55H9D Plus is a great looking 55” TV that provides great HDR performance all for a reasonable price. I was impressed with this TV out of the box. The display itself is very thin, so it will look good on TV stand or mounted on a wall. The bezels around the front panel are slim and have a premium look. Once the TV was started up and connected to my WiFi network, I was able to get streaming video services up and running in a short amount of time. The color and video quality was so impressive on this TV, I decided to upgrade my Netflix subscription to allow for 4K HDR streaming. I have been very happy with this decision so far on this TV. I set up the TV using the included feet on top of a stand, and it looks great. Because it is so thin, you need to take care when removing it from the box, but it comes with handles attached to the thicker power supply area to help safely lift it. I was able to easily attach the feet and get it set up. The TV sits a few inches off the base, with just about 3 inches to from the top of the bottom bezel to the surface below. If you are looking to put a soundbar in front of the TV, be aware that it’s pretty low profile. Also, the front-to-back profile of the base is about 9 inches, which should leave plenty of room on any suitable TV stand. On the back of the panel there are 4 HDMI ports (2 are listed as 60Hz, 2 as 30Hz), 3 USB ports, component ports, an auxiliary port, an optical audio port and an ethernet port. The included remote is easy to use and puts quick access buttons for Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, Vudu and Fandango Now streaming services in easy reach. The directional buttons make it easy to navigate menus in apps and enter text such as when logging into these services. I found the Netflix app to be seamlessly integrated with this TV, providing a great experience. There are several picture and color presets to use when viewing HDR content, and I was impressed with the Vivid Colors option on many 4K shows or the theater setting when watching TV in lower light conditions. The blacks on this TV were distinct and not noticeably impacted by other colors on screen. I didn’t notice any white bleeding into black in credit sequences or any blurring of colors in dark scenes. I was very impressed with the performance of this TV when streaming 4K HDR content from the Netflix and YouTube apps. The Netflix integration with this TV was great, from the quality of streaming video to the on-screen navigation and auto-previews. On Netflix 4K streams, I noticed vivid colors and clear, bright contrast between blacks and colors. I watched a variety of programs and streaming video content and over-the-air digital TV broadcasts. I don’t currently have a cable subscription, but I was able to watch several sporting events over the air on local broadcast. I didn’t notice any motion blur in sports or in action scenes in shows or movies.

excellant resolution
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this TV because it had the best resolution. However, it was more than I had expected to pay. The TVs with 60 and 120 refresh rates did not have the High Definition Resolution feature that the 240 refresh rate had. I wanted the OLED version, but it did not fit my budget.

YouTube App Sux!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The YouTube app on this TV is terrible. It keeps running into "Loading ..." issues after a few days, depending on the usage of the App. I've been researching for a fix but no luck, and the workaround that I know is by unplug the power (wait for like 10 seconds) then plug it back in. Basically REBOOT it - keep repeating that which is very annoying! Maybe memory leaks or something, hoping for some software updates ... I give it a 2 stars because we use Youtube a lot. I just wanted to share my YouTube App experience on this TV. Other than that it is great. Btw: I know it is not my network because I switched out my Samsung TV (moved to bedroom) which don't have that issue. I also have 2 other Samsung TVs, no issue either.

Best image I've seen from an LCD panel
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wasn’t sure what to expect from the Hisense 55H9D+ when I first got it. While most of the high end 4K TV’s with HDR support make use of OLED or other similar display technologies to pull off the deep blacks and vibrant colors that the tech typically boasts, this one uses a more conventional LCD panel paired with a much less conventional backlighting technology they call ULED that I’d never heard of before. Coming in with little more than what I’d seen from the professionally calibrated and optimized TV’s in the store to use as a point of comparison, I really had no idea what the set would end up looking like in my living room and its unfortunate giant, glare-inducing windows. After spending three days with it, I can say that it’s not the equal of an OLED set when it comes to displaying HDR content. But it’s also unquestionably the best image I have ever seen from an LCD based set. The ULED backlight essentially simulates the ability of OLED screens to precisely control the brightness of individual pixels by splitting the backlight into zones which can be locally controlled, so that darker areas of the screen have less light filtering through the LCD and brighter ones can be cranked up to really pop. When I first heard about this I was worried that the zones might turn out to be big enough to see through the LCD, potentially creating a distracting checkerboard like effect as they adjusted. But this hasn’t happened. Lines are crisp, text pops, and everything looks just as smooth as you’d expect from a high end 4K TV. There is also the usual suite of image enhancements: digital noise removal, motion smoothing (AKA: the soap opera effect) and a variety of color options. While these all do their intended job very well, outside of watching sports I think they end up doing more harm than help when it comes to the viewing experience. 4K films in particular have an unnerving plastic look with the motion smoothing turned up, making me wish that manufacturers wouldn’t ship their sets with the enhancements turned up by default. Turning them off is a bit annoying, particularly as a lot of the menus do suffer from some awkward translation, but there’s enough customization here to let you get everything where you want it with enough fiddling. And when you are watching sports, you can always switch to a pre-configured sports mode and bring back the soap opera effect without digging into the settings again. That said, there are two areas where the TV does disappoint. The first, and biggest, is in the smart functionality. Now, frequently the problem with smart TVs is that they stick underpowered processors and not enough RAM into the sets, resulting in very poor app performance. That isn’t a problem here. Response time is great, and there’s virtually no loading time for the apps. The issue is the software. Hisense opted to base all their apps on the Opera TV platform, which runs well but is notably lacking in developer support. They have support for Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Video, and Vudu, but that’s about it. There’s no HBO, Hulu, CBS All Access, or any of the other smaller but popular streaming services. As such I think that I’m pretty much going to need to rely on external streaming devices. The second is the sound. TV speakers are almost never good, but the frequency response on these is all over the place. As much as I tinkered with it, I could never really get it to sound right. It was rather hard to pin down exactly what was going on here, but it seemed like I could either get good bass response or good treble – never both at the same time. With external sound though, the audio enhancements built into the system can come into their own and provide a very satisfying experience. In the end, even with it's shortcomings, the 55H9D+ is still a very solid set with stellar image quality and an abundance of bells and whistles to tune it to exactly how you want it. Paired with a decent 4K streaming device and a good set of speakers, you have the makings of a top tier home theater experience.

Fantastic color and clarity.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had the pleasure of watching this TV over the past 6 days. This is a fantastic TV. First of all I’d like to say, this is my first big screen and HD TV. I’ve been totally blown away at how incredible the colors and clarity are. Set up was a breeze, I was watching a football game in less than 10 minutes. Football on a 55” big screen HD TV is the best Ive ever seen. The only issue I’ve had is getting used to watching TV and movies in HD and HDR, you see every flaw on whoever is on camera. Everything also appears to be filmed like a soap opera, very clear and true to life. It does take som getting used to. But that is not a bad thing just different for me. All the set up is done onscreen with easy to follow menus. The big surprise is this TV also has Bluetooth, so I was able to pair this with one of my Bluetooth speakers. Pairing was quick and easy, the sound just blew me away. With this set up you may never have to go to the theatre again. Live sports is as good as it gets. The biggest issue I’m going to have with this TV is deciding where to mount it. If you are looking for a big screen that has amazing colors and sound you cant go wrong with this. It’s as good as it gets.

Love it
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great TV. Setup was a breeze. Out of the box plug it in and walked you through a few steps on screen. Connected to my internet. I really like it has an Ethernet port on the tv for a direct connection. 4 HDMI ports which is nice for peripherals. Picture quality is perfect. I did make one adjustment as motion control was defaulted on for that “soap opera” look so I turned that off. 4K picture is beautiful and really pops off the screen. Smart Apps work seamlessly and can launch several from hot keys on the remote. Netflix and YouTube streamed without buffering and launched very quickly. Overall easy setup, wonderful picture, seamless interface for apps.

Amazing picture
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is definitely a 4K TV! The picture is beautiful - crystal clear, detailed and vibrant. The options to customize the picture are so useful because you can put the TV in any size room without it being too bright or grainy. Set up was easy, a couple minutes at most. I was impressed with how thin the screen itself actually is. However, despite how thin, the TV is quite heavy, which is really the only downside. The built in app buttons for Netflix and YouTube were a big selling point as those are the only way my kids watch television. I've never owned a Hisense product before but I'm very satisfied with this one and would highly recommend it!

Great 4K picture
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hisense 55H9D Plus is a great 4K TV. It’s not very heavy for a 55” TV, so lots of mounting options. It’s got lots of features for connecting your 4K devices. It has four HDMI ports, two 4K@60 and 2 4K@30. It still has analog ports for your older devices. The bezel is small overall, not shiny, and a neutral color so it’ll match most rooms. Unpacking is simple, the top of the package comes off with just 4 releases towards the bottom of the box. I set mine up to be wall mounted. The bottom back has a part that sticks out a little. So, you’ll need some spacers, or a compact mount that won’t interfere with the bottom of the TV for mounting. It comes with a stand in two parts, one for each side, and screws that looks okay if that’s all you need. The setup wizard is straight forward. Networking was a simple setup, it’ll do it automatically, or you can set the IP address manually. I used a LAN connection and it immediately found an update to install. It also has wireless if needed. Options are available for all your needs. Sound through the built-in speakers is average, but all small TV speakers aren’t great. It sounded like any other TV speakers for a TV in this class. In hooking it up to a home theater the TV identified the receiver through the HDMI cable. CEC integration was simple to setup and the devices talked to each other. HDMI 2 has the ARC channel and it passes audio from, PCM to DD to receivers. There are 7 different pictures modes from a bright to a darker picture or custom. Depending on what you are viewing, one should meet your needs. I used Vivid, sports, and theater for viewing the most. Sometimes with non 4K sources there would be some slight tearing, but changing to a better picture palette would fix the problem. The built in Apps worked fine, with the most popular ones having a button on the remote. When a 4K source with HDR is used, the picture is really amazing. The detail is another leap in in clarity over 1080p. Amazon, You Tube, and Netflix provided a good 4K source to view. The TV comes with other 4K exclusive apps too. Whether through Fire TV, or directly through the TV the 4K picture was superb. When using the TV for apps, there was no lag or buffering in the picture. Even from an angle the picture looks good. The TV is also Bluetooth enabled, and connecting headphones to the TV is easy, so you can listen without disturbing others. The TV easily picked up digital channels over the cable easily. Unlike a lot of TVs, once it finds all the local channels, it was pretty easy to run through the found channels and remove the ones not wanted. 720 and 1080 broadcasts looked good. Lower than 720 resolutions show their limitations on a 4K TV, but are decent. But, it’s the source that’s the issue, not the TV. A quick start guide is included, but the full manual is online. Other ports include one USB 3.0 port and two USB 2.0 ports. The remote has a good layout and is solid. It is not backlit. The TV has lots of features and was easy to setup and use. The picture is really superb. I use a Logitech Harmony remote, and loaded all of the buttons into the harmony system for the TV. The harmony remote controlled it fine.
