The Hisense C2 is a high-end laser projector designed to be somewhat portable. It has a camera and when moved will automatically adjust the keystone and focus so you don’t have to mess with it. It will even self-align with your screen if you have one. I say “somewhat portable” because it can be cumbersome to move around as it doesn’t provide you with a handle or a good way to carry it. It also does not come with a lens cover, which I think is a must on something that is not made to stay in one spot. It does come with a “sack” to store it in, but I’d feel much more comfortable moving it around if it at least had a cover or cap. It does rotate 360 degrees on its stand and can swivel up to 135 degrees vertically. When setting it up, all you need to do is point it toward a surface or screen and turn it on. It doesn’t even have to be straight or in the middle of your room. You can put it on the end table next to you and have it project on the wall in front of you. While autofocus and keystone were spot on in every setup I tested, the automatic screen alignment was not. I had to manually adjust the corners of the image to match my 120 screen on a few occasions. The picture quality is good, especially at smaller screen sizes and in dark rooms. You get a full 4K picture (more on that in a minute) along with Dolby Vision and HDR10, and a high refresh rate with VRR for gaming. Projectors often struggle with producing good blacks and shadow content. That’s not the case here; the blacks are very good, provided the room is dark. This projector is not the brightest so in cases where you can’t control the lighting you will lose a lot of the shadows and contrast. It’s a great projector for console gaming, especially since it checks all the boxes including 120Hz support, variable refresh rate, and HDR. While the projector’s marketing material claims it can do 240hz, the best I could do on my laptop was 120Hz, but it could be my fault as I didn’t have a good HDMI 2.1 cable handy to test with. I’ve had projectors with built-in sound before and the result has always been mediocre at best. The C2 comes with JBL speakers, and they are better than what I was expecting. Without a sub it does not offer much for bass and it can’t simulate surround sound, but the speakers can pump out some serious volume. There won’t be any trouble hearing if you are throwing a movie watching party. It comes with software called VIDDA OS, which appears to be a TV platform developed by Hisense. As an OS, it seems to work fine, I didn’t have any issues with it. While most of the big names are there, such as Netflix, Max, Amazon Prime, Disney+ and Paramount, some are missing. For example, there is an Apple TV+ app, but I can only watch Plus content on it. I cannot view any of the 1,000+ movies I have purchased on iTunes, which was certainly a disappointment. I would have rather the projector come with Google TV like the Hisense’s line of LED TVs do. I did notice a “screen door” effect at large screen sizes (100”+). That’s a term to be taken literally here. When I got close to the projected image it literally looked like a screen door was in front of it. You can easily see the square definition of every pixel. However, keeping the screen size down to a manageable size reduces this negative effect. The biggest downside of all is the lack of an optical zoom. Without it, I wouldn’t recommend this projector for permanent locations such as a living or media room. It would have to be installed at the perfect length from your screen to avoid using digital zoom. Just like digital zoom on your camera phone, it kills image quality. When I put the projector on my projector mount in my media room, I had to use so much digital zoom that it made the image look closer to 1080 than 4K and made the screen door effect noticeable from ten feet away. Pros: - Effortless setup with autofocus, auto-keystone, screen detection - Dolby Vision, HDR10+ - 65-300” screen sizes - 240Hz support (I could only test 120Hz) - Quiet - Powers on quickly - Built-in OS with apps (VIDAA) - 3D Support (I didn’t test this) - JBL Speakers Cons: - Limited placement due to lack of optical zoom - Lower lumen light output - Screen door effect (especially at large screen sizes) - No lens cover - Limited app selection Overall – This projector has a lot going for it, especially in terms of picture quality and ease of setup. It would be great for any temporary use cases such as a movie night in the backyard, a ceiling, or if you just want to watch TV in a room that doesn’t have one. However, I would not use it in a permanent setting like for a media or living room unless you are confident you can get it mounted without using much, preferably any, digital zoom.

This is quite literally the BEST projector I've had the luxury of using in quite some time. Let's start with the design. For what you get in terms of image quality and sound quality, the size is reasonable. It's not compact but it is small enough to be considered portable in my opinion. It swivels at the base can be positioned at pretty much any angle and perfectly focuses itself without issue. It feels sturdy and looks sleek; you can't go wrong with that! In terms of the UI, it's been a breeze to navigate and set up. There has been no noticeable lag or any bugs. You are able to create different accounts for different users who like different settings and it makes it so much easier to use when you have a bigger family or plan to have many different users. Zero headaches, zero downtime, literally just plug and play. Additionally, I love that I can plug in my consoles and just enjoy playing with zero compatibility issues. As for the actual image quality, it is elite. The colors are vibrant and pop. The definition and clarity in the image are top-tier. This projector has the clearest and sharpest image I've seen in any projector. You have to put your face up close to the screen to see any pixels at all. It's truly movie theater-level quality and would be perfect in any scenario like game night or movie night. That said, it definitely requires the right setting to truly shine. Even if a window is open during day time, the image quality suffers greatly. So I would recommend using this in a dark room or at night for best results. I also wish the remote control had rechargeable batteries and illuminated buttons so you can navigate it a little easier in dark rooms. Overall, this is definitely a top-tier projector and I 110% recommend it. You won't be disappointed with this bad boy!!

A Mini Projector that packs a mighty performance.

The Hisense C2 Smart Mini Projector is a projector that packs a mighty performance. Do not allow the words “mini projector” to fool you into thinking that this projector is mini in nature and in performance, because it is not. I absolutely love my new Hisense C2 Smart Mini Projector. Hisense may refer to it as a mini projector, but there’s nothing mini about its performance. In fact, it packs a punch that far exceeds anything smart TV I own; it’s as if they combined my tablet, television, streaming device, projector, and surround sound system into one device. I was to able to successfully utilize almost all of the features this mini projector has to offer and I am blown away! I was so excited that I went out and purchased a new projection screen (although a screen is not needed) and 3D glasses. I have to admit that I wasn’t sure if I would be impressed enough to want to use this the projector on a daily basis or even as my main source for watching TV and movies. Furthermore, I previously owned a projector and although it is about ten years old, I was satisfied with it. Although I didn’t use it as often as I’d like to because of its’ limited viewing options and the difficulty of placing it in just the right position for it to line up with the screen.Often times had to place something under one of the four corners to get it to line up with screen and if it was ever bumped or moved out of that exact position, it was a pain to get everything lined back up and in place. However, that’s not the case with the Hisense C2 Mini Projector and it has made me a believer in it and with its’ ease of use and limitless possibilities. It is easy to move from room to room. Easy to spin around to any position; no need to add books or anything to prop underneath it for height or balance. I can actually set it on the floor, table, chair or stand. My older projector would get hot and heat the room up quickly, but not with the Hisense C2 Smart Mini Projector, as it doesn’t get too hot, and it’s very quiet while running; often times I forgot I was watching a projector. I like that there isn’t too much outer light outside the film area, even when it’s off to the side projecting on a wall. It has quickly become a projector that I could watch on a daily bases. I am so pleased with this choice and my only regret is that I didn’t get it sooner. I have actually been losing sleep over the past week staying up late nights watching movies and my favorite TV shows for hours. And if that wasn’t enough, I purchased 3D glasses to take advantage of the 3D capabilities. This smart mini projector is so much fun! The picture quality is stunning, whether displayed on a projection screen, a wall, ceiling or even the floor (yes, I tried watching content on all of those surfaces). The 4K Dolby Vision ensures the colors are amazing, pop and everything looks vibrant, clear and sharp. You can still use this projector with some light in the room. The 3D experience is better than any home 3D I’ve every seen. I really enjoyed going back looking at some of my older 3D movies. I look forward to going back watching all of my other 3D movies. As I opened the various apps to view content, the mini projector auto detected film marker mode for each movie in which it was availible. As I alluded to early, I’ve had the this Hisense C2 Smart Mini Projector for almost a week. It arrived with some damage to the shipping box that had me concerned, but once I opened the box, I realized the Mini Projector was inside another box that was inside the product box and it was completely covered in form. Everything within the main box was unharmed, as everything was well packaged and protected. The first thing I did was make sure everything was included in the box and quickly noticed that the premium bluetooth remote control. It looks well made and solid. It has quick access buttons to four often used apps (Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video and Disney+). The remote buttons are large and easy push press. It is backlit which is a welcomed feature in the dark. It has good range for a remote and I don’t have to point it directly at the device for it work. Voice assistant works well via the remote. The power adapter is solid and well made and is actually kinda heavy, along with the thick power cord. The Hisense C2 Smart Mini Projector is well made and fairly light weight. They also included a nice accessory carrying bag. I downloaded the Vidda app that works great with the Hisense C2 Smart Mini Projector and it has a very good remote within the app and quick ways to access apps. I proceeded to read the quick start guide first and then began to set up the projector and plug it in. Speaking of plugging the projector in, it was simply that easy, it truly is close to plug and play. I was able to simply walk through each step without having to go back to the quick start guide as the onscreen instructions guided me along the way. I couldn’t stop smiling at how easy and seamless the setup process was. I created a user account for myself using their built-in Vidda platform. The display reminded me of the Google or even the Amazon Firestick platforms. The Vidda processor system is fast. It’s actually faster than a few of my other streaming services devices. You’re able to set up multiple user accounts and profiles for the entire family which allows you to personalize the smart features to your preferred settings. After I set up my user account, I proceeded to explore the features. I signed in to all of the built in smart streaming apps I use right from the Home Screen, such as; Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, Disney+, Apple TV, Paramount+, and many others. I also connected my X-Box console, surround sound, streaming devices and even my mobile phone using their Vidda app. The Vidda platform has a built in web browser and it works great when used with your mobile phone app because you’re able to use the your phone’s keyboard, mouse and passwords. I also connected my Apple TV device and 3D blu-ray player. Content sharing is easy as it has airplay and direct streaming that allows you to share content directly to the projector or any of the connected devices. Bluetooth music sharing shows the artwork from the song playing and you can control the music with the remote while you share it to the projector. The Hisense C2 Mini Projector has the e-manual available directly whenever you need to look something up and is on your screen and can be accessed just as you would with any of the other apps. Because the Hisense C2 Mini Projector is so versatile and extremely portable, I connected multiple surround sound systems, along with headphones and earbuds via bluetooth. Every connection was simple and I didn’t face any difficult tasks. I was amazed at the ease of connecting my devices. Everything was seamless. I was able to view how the picture looked at 65 inches and 150 inches. I wasn’t able to create enough space to see what 300 inches looks like, but I noticed the size of the projected image wasn’t affected when I stretched the size of the image from 65” to 200”. You do not need a purchase a projection screen to view your content as a wall or ceiling works fine and all viewing angles are great. But I found the projection screens enhanced the picture some as well as it looked brighter, but it is still not necessary with this mini projector. I watched the same movie scene using a projection screen that’s 120 inches in size, on a flat coco-color painted wall, and a white ceiling that’s about 15 feet high. I throughly enjoyed my content in each situation. This smart mini projector automatically matched the color or adjusted to the surface and color automatically, regardless of the area or surface type. The auto functions for focus and keystone features are the best that I have every experienced. I simply set my projection screen in front of the image and it automatically detected the screen and borders and placed the image perfectly within the screen’s boarders. I was able to move the mini projector around the house with ease and in most situations I just sat it down on a flat surface and turned it around. It has a 360 swivel base and is extremely useful, while the projector sits on the arms that’s attached to it acting as a mini stand. As with all electronics, there is always some cons and even some wishful features that I think could be addressed in an update. For example, a few apps like the Vevo and BMC apps are no longer working. I wish there was a way to delete those apps that no longer work or I do not need, or at least be able to remove them from view on the smart home screen. However, there are some factory installed apps that you cannot delete or move from the home screen and out of view. Unfortunately, you can only delete apps that you’ve installed and the apps that are no longer working are still there as well. In closing, I only touched on a few of the capabilities of the Hisense C2 Smart Mini Projector. This mini projector actually has endless possibilities. I highly recommend it and I believe you will not be disappointed.

    The Mother of Portable Projectors

This is not your standard "portable" projector. This thing has all the qualities of an excellent permanent home theater projector and is just packaged in a way that makes it capable of being taken places if you want to.  Out of the box, I am overall impressed with the features and quality as it is a super high end portable laser projector. That being said, there are just a couple of complaints I have - things that aren't perfect to me considering the cost and the top-tier level of the product. PROS - Amazing Picture Quality - Very versatile for use in many situations - Excellent built in Speakers - Great UI for Streaming via GoogleTV - Easy to use menu for adjustments - Lots of tweaks to get the best image anywhere - Excellent Simple Remote - Actually has 3D Support (requires active glasses) - Great physical design CONS - Doesn't come with a case - Limited USB Format Support - Due to above 3D Digital Movies have been difficult Having previously only owned standard lower end portable projectors with a bulb light, my expectations for jumping to a high end laser projector were fairly high and the C2 from Hisense did not let me down. Even though this is not the PRO or Ultra models (which get even brighter), the first time I started it up I was immediately blown away.  Even projecting it on my office wall (which is a yellowish off white color), the image quality was spectacular. I could actually imagine myself using this to watch a show in my office or laying in bed with it pointed up at the ceiling.  The automatic focusing and keystone also worked great right away and I loved the Google TV interface for easy access to all the streaming services without me having to use an external device. The #1 most important aspect of a projector is always going to be the picture quality. Everything else takes a back seat to that.  The Hisense C2 shines (both figuratively and literally) in this aspect. Even though it's not quite as bright as the "pro/ultra" versions, it's been plenty bright enough for me.  In my office even with the lights on the C2 was bright enough to watch a casual show without any issues (again just on the wall, not a special projector screen) and outside projecting onto the side of my garage which is stucco and is a beige color in the late evening with some ambient light, the picture was good enough for my spouse to declare we must have a movie pool night this summer.  Once I invest in an actual projection screen made to reflect the laser light and with little to no ambient light, we're talking cinema quality! The C2 also supports Dolby Vision & HDR and is of course 4K resolution so even when expanding it to a super large area, it looks great!  The auto keystone works well for most situations and if you do have to manually change it, it's easy and intuitive.  Autofocus was dead on for me in every situation I've used it in so far. And resizing the screen worked great when I was outside projecting onto my garage from the other side of the pool - the native picture was too big at that distance, but I was able to easily shrink it down to perfectly fit the garage. There are also a lot of truly excellent built in picture settings so whether you're looking for more vibrant or more cinematic or gaming - you can quickly adjust the overall look. Additionally, there are a LOT of great controls to be able to tweak everything to your heart's content if you are the kind of person who is super picky about that kind of stuff. I really appreciate it when a company has both options - easy more automated settings along with the option for detailed manual control. The remote control is great. Super easy to use and comfortable in the hand. Has all the right buttons without having too many. I haven't used the built-in mic for voice control and don't know that I will, but a cool touch that it's there for those who want it. I was super excited that this supports 3D as I truly miss having 3D on my OLED TV since no one offers it anymore.  This does require buying DLP Link Active 3D glasses and is probably not as good of an experience as passive 3D but still could be fun sometimes. I have been able to play a 3D movie from a Blu-Ray player and it worked great.  However, with this projector playing movies directly from a thumb drive would be ideal. I have not yet been able to get it to play any of my 3D MKV files but am still working on that and am hopeful it will be able to do that once I can get everything in the right format for it. It only supports drives formatted in FAT32 and NTFS and FAT32 is very limited in file size. ExFAT support would have been better since it supports the much larger file sizes needed for 3D movies. The physical design of this projector is excellent.  It swivels left/right on its own base and swivels up and down so you don't have to put it on a tripod to get that.  It can tilt straight up to project onto the ceiling which can be super cool for lying in bed watching a show. It does also have a tripod mounting screw hole in the bottom if needed.   The built-in speakers, though of course not as good as a surround sound system or a perfectly placed soundbar, are excellent for what they are and get VERY loud. And it has all the ports you could need on a projector for use as a portable device or a permanent installation. The one thing I was very disappointed in was the lack of a case. As this is promoted as being a portable projector and the retail cost is $2K, who would want to just carry it around in a burlap sack which is basically what was included in the box. At this price range anything considered "portable" should come with a suitable way to "port" it - I was expecting it to have a good protective carrying case for storage or portability, but it did not. Overall, Hisense has really won me over with the C2 projector. I've been watching the brand closely since they came on the scene and have seen how they've gone from just being a budget-friendly company to also making higher end equipment.  This projector has certainly proven to me that they are up there with the best of the best. I am overall absolutely thrilled with it and can't wait to find new ways to make use of it.

My experience and comparison to Hisense C1

I upgraded to the Hisense C2 from the original C1 due to a dead pixel on the screen. I was fine with the pixel, but when I saw the C2 was available I went ahead and upgraded. I loved my C1, but one thing I can say is that since I didn’t mount my projector having one with a built-in gimbal is an excellent quality of life upgrade. I do find the C2 does run warmer than the C1 (My Hisense C1 projector was always ice cold to the touch.) Also, the C2 initially had more fan noise, but it has either settled down or I’ve gotten used to it. Other than these two things, the C2 is better than the C1. Me and my wife are really enjoying movie night on the C2. The display is nice and bright. It feels like we are at the movies. The built in sound is actually pretty good. I usually use the Sonos Playbar, but every now and then it switches to the built in sound and I can’t initially tell the difference. I use an Apple Tv. An Xbox One X, and a Ugoos AM6B+ connected to a Denon AVR to get to my content. I only use the built in Vidaa OS for the Chrome cast functionality. So, I can’t say much about it other than it is definitely quick and more responsive than Google TV. It is definitely lacking in apps though. Another thing I love is how fast it turns back on. There are two very big negatives to me: No optical zoom and no way to restart through the settings. The optical zoom can be a very big deal. It worked out for me since I was replacing a device with the same throw ratio and had no optical zoom, so it wasn’t too bad. But I did have to push it back as far as I could to fit my projector screen. Maybe once or twice I’ve felt the need to reboot the device… that means I have to get up and either walk to the device and use that single button to maneuver to the power options, or just pull the plug. Should be a little easier. I can live with it though. There is a third issue, but it doesn’t matter for me. It might even be just my unit. My projector when connected through ethernet keeps disconnecting over and over. When it disconnects it put a popup on the screen. It doesn’t matter for me since I don’t use the built in OS, and I got around it by just unplugging the ethernet cable. But it’s something I wanted to bring up. I’m about to take it to the store now and see what they can do for me. I am a BestBuy Total which has been working out perfectly for my needs, but that’s another review. If you are on the look out for a lifestyle projector that isn’t too expensive and has Dolby Vision, HDR 10+, HDR 10... Doesn’t look like crap during dark scenes Easy to work and setup (I mean you really don’t even have to mess with the picture settings too much.) Get this one. A couple tips: When you are watching something in Dolby Vision, there is a new setting that pops up in the picture setting that allows you to set the size of the projector screen. No matter what size screen you are using pick the largest size. Trust me! I configured a SofaBaton U2 with the built in HDMI CEC and an ir repeater to control every dice with one remote. Don’t worry about the built in OS an APPLE TV 4k 3rd gen works perfectly with this projector it overrides everything to where you will never see the built in OS.

I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and it’s pretty impressive overall. Setup and Design When I first pulled it out of the box, I noticed how sleek it looks. It’s got a nice, solid feel to it. It’s not small, but you can move it around if you want to, say, take it outside for a movie night. That said, it’s a bit heavy—not the easiest thing to carry. I mostly keep it in the living room, so it’s not a big deal for me. Setting it up was real easy. Comes with a remote, hooks up to Wi-Fi quick, and all the streaming apps. Netflix, YouTube, whatever are available. Picture Quality The picture on this thing is where it really shines. Colors are bright and bold, blacks are nice and deep, and whites don’t look washed out. It’s sharp too—4K does its job—and movies look fantastic. I’ve watched all kinds of stuff, from big action films to Disney stuff with my kids and it handles everything well. Had some buddies over the other night, and they couldn’t believe how good it looked. However it is fairly dim on just a wall (at least one that's not white.) And you want be using it with the lights on. So you'll want to get a screen. And you can make the screen size anywhere from 65 inches to a massive 300 inches, but keep in mind, as with any screen (TV, phone, etc.) the bigger the image gets the more the detail starts to breakdown depending on how far away from the screen you are. So if you sit 15' away from a 300" image it won't look as good as a 100" image. I also took it outside once, and it worked fine on the patio wall for an outdoor movie night. Sound The sound surprised me. It’s got a JBL speaker and a subwoofer built in, and it’s honestly decent. You can hear everything clear, and there’s a little bass to it—more than I thought a projector would have. For most stuff it’s plenty. If you’re real picky about audio, you might want to add some speakers, which you can hookup to the e-arc HDMI port. Gaming If you’re into gaming, this thing’s built with Xbox in mind—fast refresh rates and almost no lag. I’ve been playing some shooters on it, and it’s smooth as can be. I had a couple of friends over for some Cod and Madden and they were real impressed. Keeps up with the action no problem. The Downsides It’s not all perfect. It’s not cheap, especially once you add a quality screen, which it really needs. Also the keystone correction was kind of hit or miss for me. The auto focus worked pretty well but I still found myself adjusting it slightly afterwards. It really could be brighter in my opinion. I have a couple of other projectors from another brand that are brighter on my plain wall and look fine without a screen, but this one really is too dark without a screen (or maybe a white wall which I didn't have to try it on). There’s some good stuff too. The auto keystone is great when it works. It fixes the picture so it’s square even if you’ve got it at an odd angle. And it adjusts itself to fit the wall or screen, which makes setting it up real simple. All in all, I’m happy with it. The picture’s really vibrant thanks to Dolby Vision as well as the processing it does for non-Dolby content and looks great. The sound’s better than I figured, and it’s easy to use. If you’ve got the money and want something that's bigger than a regular TV, it’s a solid pick. I’m really liking it. It makes movie nights a lot more fun.

The Hisense C2 is a portable projector that will occupy most of the space in your backpack, but makes up for it with the quality of picture and ease of use. This projector offers stunning 4K quality with great colors that make you forget that you are watching your favorite Netflix show on a projector…until someone walks in front of the projector. While I don’t fully under stand the triple laser technology in the C2, all I can say is that it is very bright at 2000 lumens and did well in moderately lit rooms. Normally I need to pair whatever projector I am using with a Bluetooth speaker for audio, but the built in speakers were more than adequate for a god sized group. If you are using the C2 with a loud medium or large sized group then you might need stronger speakers. But at that point are you even really enjoying the projector? The projector stand makes it easy to tilt up or down and the projector will analyze the surface it is projecting the screen to, autofocus and adjust the keystone automatically. If the C2 doesn’t get it right, you can manually set the keystone and force the projector to refocus. I fully enjoy the quality of the picture and the smart capabilities to view Disney plus and Netflix shows. Just the other night we enjoyed wine with a group of friends while watching a group favorite Netflix show outside with a fire going. The picture quality and the sound were perfect. While this is a portable projector, it does need to be plugged in to a power source, it does not have a built-in battery of any kind. I don’t expect as much from high quality projectors, but when people hear the word portable they automatically think battery operated. The picture quality form this projector is equivalent to a television, as long as you have a smooth white or light background. It is surprising how the picture does not look washed out in what you expect to see in most projectors. This obviously will not have the contrast or blacks that an OLED TV has, but the C2 is comparable to high end television. The projector stand, autofocus, auto-keystone, streaming services integration, sound quality, and picture quality make this a go to projector for anyone looking to invest in a mobile projector that has been well thought out and executes close to perfectly.
