Great vacuum, but it does have a few quirks.

First off, I really like that it is a canister and not a bag. This is pretty standard in most Stick vacuums I see nowadays, but its good to point out in case someone was comparing this against one that had a bag. Its super easy to empty and you can disable this quite a bit to really clean it out if you’re one of those people that can’t stand to see dirt inside your device that’s made to . . . pick up dirt. I know that may seem dumb to some people, but I have family members that are like that.
I got the version that comes with two batteries. Each battery has a power icon on it to check its charge before you use it. On top of that the vacuum itself has a battery monitor on it also. One thing to note on the battery monitor is that the one on the battery shows basically how full it is, the one on the vacuum is an estimate of how long until your vacuum dies from lack of power. This is the first quirk and I haven’t figured out the exact relation between the two so I can’t say the best way to reconcile differences, but as of this moment my batter says that it is half full (2 out of 4 lights on), but my vacuum says it’s almost dead (one out of four lights with it blinking red). It will also adjust your vacuum light on the fly. For example, I was vacuuming on full power mode and then clicked into eco mode and the light jumped from 1 bar to 2 bars. It would be nice to know what exactly each light really means.
The battery life on the highest mode lasted me around 8-10 minutes. I believe it’s the 3 Ah not the 4Ah, so it would obviously go longer with a bigger battery. Highest power usage mode for me was turning off eco mode so it has the highest suction, and turning on the carpet mode so it has to spend power turning the brush as well. I got a lot more time in eco mode and when the carpet brush was turned off. So understand when it quotes 35 min battery life it really is talking about maximum optimized use for a long battery life which they say is hand held (so no power is being drained by any powered attachment) and eco mode.
So, the next obvious question is what mode we should use, so what battery power is really what we would get. I vacuumed a room first on eco mode and then on full power. Both with carpet mode on. Honestly, the amount of stuff the eco mode picked up was probably good enough. These things aren’t powerful enough to make a significant difference on my carpet and it was really more about if the brush was spinning. Yes, I did get more stuff picked up when I ran it a second time on high power mode, but I can vacuum a floor and get a little more by running it again in the same room at the same power level. I really didn’t feel like the difference modes made much of a difference in cleaning power. Using eco mode gave me more than enough battery life to last until the second quirk I discovered.
The first real con I discovered of this vacuum is that it overheats really easily on carpet. In about 5 - 10 min it overheated on high power mode, around double on eco mode. I discovered this as I was vacuuming like normal and the brush just stopped turning. I couldn’t get it to turn back on and I eventually noticed the front of the brush was blinking red (I may have noticed sooner if I was vacuuming at night with lower lighting). I had no idea what that meant and had to go online to figure it out in Hoover’s FAQ since it was not in the manual at all. I think it works pretty hard to both suction and pull power to turn the brush, but it really shouldn’t overheat that easily. My carpet is not that tall, but it could also be that the brush head doesn’t account for carpet height well and it was fighting my carpet a bit too much. Obviously once it overheated once, I had to wait around 10 min. to get going again, but it also overheated much easier once it had already gotten that hot if I didn’t wait even longer. This was an irritating pause, but 10 min for cooling every 10 min is still better than 4 hours of charging time. I thought maybe swapping between batteries would fix the overheating issue, but it didn’t do anything so I’m guessing it’s a sensor and heating issue in the brush head itself. I call this more of a quirk than a defect because it was obviously put there to protect the device and if you've ever smelled burned hair in a vacuum brush that overheated, you'll agree that this is probably the right call.
I never saw any overheating when I was not using the brush or not in carpet mode and my battery always died before I got to an overheating issue. In the end this is a weird quirk, but when I’m not trying to test the vacuum the reality is that I use this on eco mode and it takes only around 10 min or so to vacuum a room. It doesn’t normally overheat in that time and then it cools down as I pick up the next room and get it ready to vacuum. So in day to day use, overheating doesn’t appear to be a problem but time will tell if I am being a bit too generous here.
On hard floors (tile and fake hardwood since I don’t dare use it on real hardwood until I know it won’t scratch) it worked much, much better on full-power mode. The brush doesn’t really spin and may turn occasionally from the suction power, but I found it just doesn’t get the seal necessary to pick everything up on eco mode. This does mean you’ll burn through your batteries faster on hard flat surfaces, but the swappable batteries compensate for that.
I really like the idea of other devices being able to use the same set of batteries and that if a battery dies or won’t hold a charge you can easily buy a new one rather than trying to have the vacuum serviced. I think this potentially is a great feature but I haven’t had a chance to test any of the other Onepwr products to know if they are good enough to make it worth investing in other products in the family.
I’ve seen a few bad reviews on the battery life, not per charge but that they batteries just die within a year. I haven’t had mine long enough to comment specifically on this, but the paperwork says the battery is also warranted for 3 years, so my hope is that those are defects that can just be replaced under warrantee. My gut says they wouldn’t give you a three year warrantee on the battery when they could probably get away with a different 1 year on the battery unless they expect it to last at least 3 years and are willing to replace the ones that don’t.
As a final side note on this product specifically, the documentation is pretty horrible and isn’t much better online, but luckily the vacuum is pretty straight forward so you don’t really need much documentation to be able to use the thing.
I also wanted to compare and experiment a bit so I ran this vacuum against my other cordless vacuum (very nice costing twice as much) and my upright (also nice and I probably spent too much on it) to see how it did. I also compared some basic features of this versus my more expensive stick vacuum.
First up my Blade+ vs my other stick vacuum. The Blade+ is a bit heavier, but not significantly so. If the weight is a real issue, this is where a more expensive vacuum may be able to pack in as much or more power in a smaller package. But here you’ll have to do only a room or two a day with a more expensive vacuum if it doesn’t have swappable batteries. As for power this vacuum did a really good job. I did two different rooms one with the Blade+ first followed by my other vacuum and then the next room in reverse. In both cases the vacuums picked up about the same amount of stuff and left behind pretty similar amounts. Overall, I think that the cleaning power and strength is about the same between this and a vacuum costing almost twice as much. I did a couple tests for battery life, and this is probably about 20% shorter battery life, but being able to swap out the battery more than makes up for that issue.
I followed both rooms up with my upright to see what was left and I got around the same amount from both rooms, in the upright, and in both cases just as much or more than the stick vacuums originally picked up. So as expected the stick vacuums are great and convenient, but they still don’t hold a candle to the power of a bigger, heavier vacuum that is pulling as much energy as it wants from a wall. This should be no surprise to anyone but before you buy you need to be a bit realistic as to what any cordless vacuum can actually accomplish.
If a friend had money to burn and really cared about some of the perks of a more expensive cordless vacuum I wouldn’t try too hard to dissuade them. However, the Blade+ is a fantastic stick vacuum with quite a few nice features that really help to balance some of the quirks and I would definitely recommend it.

This vacuum is great on the hard floor. But it has too much suction for area rugs. It just shuts off on my rugs even on economy. I will probably return it for this reason. I put that I wouldn't recommend, but I would as long as you only have hard floors.

Very good unit, certainly better than a dustbuster

How one would rate this product is dependent on the kind of vacuum cleaner that is desired. I'd classify vacuum cleaners in 5 categories. First is the glorified handheld dust buster with accessories. Second is the handheld dust buster that comes with a standing unit to which it attaches to become a standing vacuum. Third are lighter-weight standing vacuums for improved mobility. Fourth are full-blown heavy vacuums. Fifth is industrial vacuums. I would categorize the Hoover - ONEPWR Blade+ as part of the third category. And it is important to make that distinction because it is unfair if you want to start comparing the unit against ones from other categories, namely the full-blown heavy vacuums that use AC power. If you are looking for a full-blown heavy vacuum with the attachments, a hose, carpet height, extra power provided by the fact that it is wired, then the Hoover - ONEPWR Blade+ is not it. It doesn't compare. Full blown heavy vacuums have extreme suction, durability, and good accessories. Don't get me wrong about the quality of this Hoover product, it just is an unfair comparison. Now if you are looking for a light-weight vacuum that provides mobility, either the second or third category, now you are talking...the Hoover - ONEPWR Blade+ compares extremely well and is a great product.
I've had a vacuum that falls in the second category (dust buster that attaches to a unit to become a standing vacuum). They are nice and it is nice to get a dust buster unit, but the battery and the suction power is limited by the dust buster, which in most cases is very…limited. After having used the Hoover - ONEPWR Blade+, I can say that these category four vacuums are much better, both with battery and suction. So if you are considering a dust buster standing unit, definitely consider units like the Hoover ONEPWR Blade+ as they are functionally better for a minimal cost increase (~$50).
The Hoover - ONEPWR Blade+ is well built with quality materials. Construction was a breeze. It is nice that the battery can charge with a separate unit as opposed to requiring the entire unit be plugged in. If you get the battery charge pack (separate purchase) it will allow you to quick swap a second battery for extended use. The included battery has a charge indicator (which you access with a button) which lets you see remaining juice. The vacuum also has an active indicator light that connects with the battery so you can see how much juice is left as you are using it. I can’t say exactly how long the battery lasts, but it certainly lasts much longer than your usual dust buster. If you use the agitator functionality (for agitating carpets) the battery will run out quicker. I’ve used the unit on a standard carpet and a shag carpet. For standard carpets, there is no issue moving the unit. Shag carpets is a different story – you will have trouble pushing against it. You will end up only being able to do the pulling motion and lifting it to the next position. Pull, lift, pull, lift, pull, etc. My full blown AC-powered vacuum will let me do push and pull on the shag, albeit with a setting that lifts the agitator higher (a feature that this Hoover vacuum expectedly lacks). The Hoover ONEPWR comes with an attachment that effectively makes it a dust buster. Instead of using the long tube to make it a standing unit as advertised in the pictures, you simply connect a short tube (~1 foot long) and you can dust bust. To be honest, while it does the job in this form and probably has stronger suction than a dust buster, I much prefer a true dust buster just because of the weight of the battery on the Hoover ONEPWR (it is heavy). Removing dust from the ONRPWR is a breeze – it is bag-less and opens with a simple compartment door to open.
My only complaint with the Hoover ONEPWR Blade+ is that the battery is heavy and puts some extra weight on the top of the unit, so you are effectively putting a little more downward torque on your arm as you are vacuuming. All the weight is at the top, far away from the center of mass, so it feels a little strange coming from full blown AC-powered vacuums. It makes usage of the unit feel strange, as if there is no weight being put on the bottom of the unit. Full blown heavy AC-powered vacuums do not put any torque on your arm of that sort – you are just holding onto a plastic handle. All the weight is in the generally located more towards the center of mass making it more balanced (of course it also makes it much harder to move because it is so heavy). I suggest you try out the feel of the Hoover ONEPWR Blade+ to see if you like it. If you don’t like its feel and you really only want a vacuum of this third category (i.e. lighter with mobility), you should look into models which are AC-powered and have no weight at the handle, instead in the meat of the unit. Hoover makes the ONEPWR FloorMate JET, which matches this design, but it is more of a wet cleaner and less vacuum. I’m not sure they make a unit like I describe, but other manufacturers certainly do (I have one before my full-blown heavy AC unit, which worked during my days of apartment living). I can't say I love the feel of the weight distribution of the ONEPWR Blade+, but because it is lighter and more mobile than my AC unit, I will definitely find myself using this more often than my AC unit being in a 3 story home - and that is the point of the ONEPWR Blade+, mobility!

There are a lot of cordless stick vacuums on the market today and it can be hard to tell the good ones from the bad. Unfortunately for the Blade+, it is just average if you're willing to deal with the quirks.
The few good things advertised for this vacuum can already be found in cheaper models. It's easy to maneuver in tight spaces, and the ergonomics of using it isn't too bad. It isn't too heavy and it certainly makes vacuuming the stairs a lot easier. The additional battery included is a major plus and is sorely needed for this vacuum. While the suction does not feel as strong as other vacuums, it does a decent job on carpet. I vacuumed a dirty room first with the Blade+, and then again with a corded Dyson vacuum. The Dyson barely collected anything after its run, so that is a great sign for the Blade+. If you're just looking for easy carpet vacuuming, then I may recommend this product.
The list of annoying things is quite long, and I found myself almost hating this vacuum using it the first time. For starters, the major problem is the run time. It advertises 35 minute runtime, but you'll never see that because you'll never use the ECO mode unless you want to vacuum twice. In reality, I was lucky to get 10 minutes on carpet with CARPET mode. I also ran this on hard floors, normal mode and did not get much better. With their extra battery you'll get 20 minutes of run time, but in reality it's more like 15 minutes. Why? Because what happens is this: you start vacuuming, then your battery runs out so you switch and put this one in the charger. Now you're finished vacuuming but you leave the half dead battery in the vacuum. In the next session, you don't have two full batteries. Moving on the the operation of the unit, when I was vacuuming my stairs with just the roller and base, there were times when the unit would power off. It was almost as if the carpet was preventing the roller from moving and there was a kill-safe to prevent the motor from using too much charge. Absolute insanity - they should not power a vacuum with such a weak motor. I've never had this happen before on my other handhelds and this was quite a surprise. I did not see this effect when using it with the stick, but others may see this if their carpet is too thick. The last thing I will point out is how awkward it is to change the roller to use the attachments. You would think it's a one handed job, since one of your hand is already holding the heavy handle. However, it is not. The attachments need a bit of force to lock in place, and the awkward placement of the release button does not help this either. If you're thinking of easily switching to vacuum something else, expect to put the whole thing down to get it to work.
Overall, I can't really recommend this product. It just doesn't live up to my expectations. If you're already in the ecosystem, then this may be OK. You'll get those extra batteries which may be the most expensive and useful thing about this vacuum.

Even on hardwood flooring the batteries do not last long enough for me to do our 4-room downstairs, yet the rotary blade chews at rugs and quickly entangles, has to be stopped and cleaned. I would not buy another one.
I have used it only three times and have been thinking of buying a different cordless one.
It is, though,?easier to empty the dirt canister than my former Dyson.

A Cordless Vacuum You'll Like

The realm of cordless vacuums is pretty disappointing - they tend to be underpowered, low on suction, and either heavy or awkward.
Hoover's ONEPWR Blade+ Cordless is the first cordless vacuum that I like because it addresses most of these concerns, for the most part.
Pros:
- Two batteries included keep a decent charge and recharge quickly with the dual battery charger
- Battery life is available with the push of a button and displayed while the device is on as well - there's a status button on the battery itself
- Assembly is fast and easy (seriously, my kindergartener put together the vacuum in 15 minutes)
- Almost everything is easily cleaned (the one exception is that long strings get wrapped around a non-removable filter component and require extraction by hand)
- The attachments actually attach to the vacuum and stay there (and they have a satisfying click so you know if they are actually attached!)
- When used as a handheld vacuum, the whole thing is easy to maneuver, light, and has tons of power to clean out your car (and your neighbor's car, and the blinds in your house, and all the hard-to-reach shelves that need cleaned...)
Cons:
- Individual batteries run out of power quickly depending on which attachment you are using
- The neck is a nice inclusion but the vacuum works much better as a handheld device
- With the neck attachment and the floor head attachment, the vacuum is pretty heavy
- Using the vacuum as a floor vacuum causes the battery to run out really quickly depending on which mode you're in - the wheels on the floor head also seem to not like thick carpet, as the spinning brush gets "jammed" and then the whole vacuum shuts off as a safety precaution. This happened frequently when cleaning required awkward angles (stairs!) and the neck was attached - it did not happen when the floor head was directly attached without the neck.
- The Dual battery charger is a must, not a nicety
Overall: this is a great utility vacuum (especially if you have or will get other ONEPWR items so you can share the batteries). As a stand-alone floor vacuum, it's probably not enough for anything bigger than a small studio apartment. As a handheld vacuum to tackle smaller cleaning tasks like stairs, hardwood floors, and your car, it's fantastic. The mounting hardware is perfect for a garage or closet, and you can even mount the charger with it, too (though this seems to assume you have an outlet in your closet...)
Hoover's ONEPWR Blade+ Cordles is definitely worth checking out if it's time to replace your current handheld vacuum.
