    Stops permanently

Bought it on December 2015. At the time of purchase did not see reviews about overheating, so decided I wouldn't purchase extended servicing. During my first use it stopped, I let it cool, did not work. Then I read the instructions - it says the vacuum has an overheating feature, and after 30min it stops it should be able to work again, provided you clean it. I cleaned it and it worked, but only for 6-7 min and it stopped again. At first I thought it has to do with an possible power surge, but the manual was clear it was build like that - to stop. Since then had the same problem again and again. Work time also varies - 6 min or 20min. I was advised to take it to a Hoover service, but I also think that buyers need to know they buy a vacuum that is built to stop due to overheating, as per page 8 of the instructions, and that you should wait for 30min to start cleaning again, etc, etc. In fairness, it has two very positive sides, the suction was very good and in combination with brush it worked miracles. The conclusion is, however, that if I knew I wouldn't have bought a vacuum to see it stop in the middle of cleaning, then wait for 30min to restart your cleaning and the fact that it stops soon again is the 2nd reason. This is not how a vacuum should be built in the first place - it should not stop in the first place, if it overheats its a design flaw and should have not been placed on the market, in my opinion - see other brands that do the job from the beginning to the end. I had to pull out my old shabby vacuum to clean it. I can not use the new one effectively. I think Hoover would better recall this model and take responsibility.

      Hi Free,
Our vacuums are designed to shut off IF the motor starts to overheat. The motor shouldn't be doing that on a consistent basis, especially right out of the box. It may happen if the filter is clogged or the air path is disrupted in some other way. If you can't take your canister into a service center, please email [email protected] and we will try to make this right. Thanks! -- John, Hoover Customer Care Hoover

Bought unit w/extended warranty as a gift in October, 2014 for a family member. Liked size and weight. Unit burnt up within a month. Sparks came off motor. Called Hoover. Advised to take to service center. Was told brush holders were defective. Service tech was unfamiliar with claim filing so process was delayed two weeks. It is now three months later and still waiting on replacement. Customer service says they are out of stock. Totally disappointed with Hoover.

    Loved it until ...

I have searched web-wide for the perfect affordable canister vacuum there is. I found this and loved loved loved it until the motor went out after using it literally for 15 minutes. It overheated and wouldnt turn on til about 30min later. Now it only stays on for 5minutes at a time before going out again. I will be returning it this evening. While it was working, it had perfect suction, it sucked everything and i mean everything out of my carpet. It was very easy to maneuver. The only complaint i would have, (besides the weak motor) is that the dustbin fills quickly as its not very big and you have to empty it probably a couple times if you were to clean a few rooms. Im tempted to exchange it for another one as maybe i just got a lemon ? I'll keep you guys posted.

    Great but gets clogged.

I purchased this vacuum for our place. I already have a standard hoover upright that I love. So when I needed something that can fit under beds and couches- hoover was our choice. I purchased this during a sale and it does the job. However, I find that the path into the canister gets clogged on occasion. Which isn't a big deal considering the condition of the carpet isn't in the best shape and the fiber particles are pulled up because the vacuum has great suction power. The option to turn the rotating bristles off for hardwood is a great concept. Con: The "all-in-one" attachment head is a pain. My only real complaint is how it doesn't stay in the position. The piece doesn't click in the proper position and sinks down when I put pressure on it. Again, not a big deal cause I just use the attachments from our other hoover but this could be an issue for other buyers.

This vacuum has great suction when its working, which is rarely. I've had it in for service twice while on warranty....I was billed a service chg. both times, once because they found a piece of plastic in it (that I had never seen before and did not vacuum up) and the second time because it had "dirt in it" imagine that dirt in a vacuum. Both times the machine had overheated and they blamed it on the filter being dirty...the canister was not even to a point where it needed to be emptied! I contacted customer service again and they never got back to me. The machine does have an auto shut off if it gets to hot which in the case of this machine is after about fifteen minutes of use, then it must cool down for a day or two. I am sure that there is some part that needs to be replaced but I am tired of pleading with customer service only to have them send me to another lawnmower repair shop that bills me and doesn't fix it. This is trash and that's where its going, in a year it never ran long enough to empty the canister more than three times and I had to wash the filter after each use. I'm sure this machine was a lemon but their customer service sure did not stand by their product. My biggest waste of money ever!

I gave a five star rating across the board. The vacuum works great and its easy to use.The price is one third the price of a Dyson and works just as good or better I've always liked a canister vacuum over an upright .This is so easy to use and has nice attachments.

It's affordable given a very competitive price compared to other canister vacuum. I returned the unit as it damages the edge of my rugs badly. The wheels would've been better with a different more mobile design. You can use this unit for a small area. Otherwise, don't.

For 160 bucks I expected something that would last. This is the second consecutive brand new hoover that's crapped out on me in less than a year. Never again, they aren't the bulletproof machines we grew up with, just shoddy inferior plastic pieces of junk.

I agree with all the positive reviews and loved it at first. Unfortunately, the motor started overheating after about a year and shuts down while vacuuming. It recovers but will vacuum less and less time. Down to 5 minutes now. I always cleaned it after every use and did not overuse it. I would only recommend it if you buy extra warranty.

This vacuum is good for minimal use only. My cleaning obsessed wife blew this vacuum out of the water after only 3 months of daily use. She not only cleans the house daily but cleans houses for a living and will be telling everyone who asks not to use or buy a hoover. We have 1 cat, 1 kid and do not smoke - with her cleaning DAILY that should give you an idea of the little mess it handled every day. She regularly cleaned the insides and filters - yet when we took it to an authorized Hoover repair place they wanted half the price of the vacuum to fix it. Just pay the extra and get the lowest priced Dyson. You'll be happier with it and if anything happens they'll actually fix it without a dime of your money extra.
