Customers are saying

Customers are positive about the design, comfort, and button placement of the Split Pad Compact Attachment Set for Nintendo Switch, citing its ergonomic design, ease of use, and improved joystick placement compared to standard controllers. However, customers are negative about the wired connection and the perceived lower quality of some components, expressing a wish for wireless functionality and improved button feel. Many appreciate the aesthetically pleasing design. The price point relative to the perceived quality was also a point of contention for some users.

I was already pretty familiar with the Split Pad Compact before buying this set, so I already knew what to expect going in. Out of all of the "Joy-Con alternatives" that are available, I do feel like this has the best balance between size, ergonomics, features, and price for the controllers by themselves. Design wise, these are just adorable with Eeveelutions on both sides, and Eevee on the center piece is the cherry on top. And the controllers are also partially translucent as well, which I didn't expect at all, so that was a pleasant surprise! The ergonomics are definitely the greatest strength for the Split Pad Compact, as they're way more comfortable than the standard Joy-Cons, along with better-feeling buttons, sticks, and a proper d-pad. The d-pad is a little stiff for my liking, but it's at least accurate and comfortable to use compared to the directional buttons on the Joy-Con. These definitely make the Switch larger, but not as large as, say, the Split Pad Pro, which has all the same features as these, but are even larger. At the same time though, I don't think these make the Switch so big that it's unwieldy to use, and the comfort gains are more than worth the size increase in my opinion (Though I do wish I can find a proper, high-capacity carrying case that is compatible with this, but that's a me issue). However, these controllers do make some very noteworthy compromises that some may very well consider dealbreakers, especially at the price this set is going for. The main one is that they're essentially wired controllers. So there's no wireless capabilities of any kind, along with no motion controls or rumble. Granted, the included USB attachment does make it a bit easier to use since that does allow you to use these with your Switch in TV mode, but it doesn't get around the fact that these can't be used wireless. They're handheld mode controllers through and through, but are also not full-on Joy-Con replacements. They're great for that purpose, don't get me wrong. I loved using these, and will continue to use them, but the compromises these make do make it hard to swallow for some. And of course, there's the price. Simply put, this set is absurdly expensive. Way more expensive than I think they should be. The fact that this is more expensive than the first-party Switch Pro Controller while being nowhere near as technically capable is a HUGE ask for most people. So you REALLY have to want the better ergonomics for handheld mode and have a cute set of controllers to go along with it. These controllers definitely nail the design and ergonomic improvements for sure, and having that USB attachment to use these in TV mode is also a nice inclusion, but is it with worth paying more than what the Pro Controller goes for? Especially when that controller gets you all the bells and whistles for a Switch controller? That's very much debatable, and very much a big "no" if all you care about is playing in TV mode. But if you're more into handheld mode, and want something more comfortable than the standard Joy-Cons no matter what, this is a great solution. That said, the Split Pad Compact by themselves go for way less, especially if you look at the non-Pokémon designs. So, if you want better ergonomics for handheld mode and don't care about using these on the TV, then I'd say get that cheaper version instead. But if you want this specific design, then this bundled version is the only way to get it, and that's a tough sell. Long story short, this version of the Split Pad Compact are great as always, as they're comfortable with great-feeling inputs. And the Eeveelution flair this set has is a really nice touch. But that price tag is gonna be very difficult for some to swallow, so I'd say if you REALLY have to have this, wait for it to go on sale. Great controllers, but not $90+ good in my eyes.

Cute color, but it is wired and tough to slide the joy sticks in and out.
