I wanted to replace my Chromebook with a cheap windows laptop so I can increase usability of laptop since Chromebook are limited to web only. WIndows in S mode is a great OS. It opens in less then 5 seconds and we are connected to web in 10 seconds. Laptop built and quality is good and A9 processor is really fast for light use. If you are into gaming or lots of graphics usage then this laptop is probably not for you. Its light weight and premium quality. For the price on black Friday its definitely a great buy.

Had to save money when replacing my 10 yr old HP DM1. Best Buy's price for my brand new laptop was only $20 more than a re-manufactured one. Am very pleased with the much faster performance of this new HP 14 AMD A9 with 128 Solid State Drive. Unless your a pro gamer / Photo-cropper, this laptop is all you need. It took only 4 easy clicks to revert from Windows "S" mode to normal. Best Buy associates wearing gloves even brought it out to my car for a No-Contact delivery.

for a laptop THIS cheap: surprisingly good performance. Unless you want to drop more than a grand for a really nice gaming laptop, which would certainly perform better; honestly, this little guy would probably satisfy 99% of all folks who need a 14" laptop. Just one thing: whenever you power it on, a virus scan will run; so just plan on giving it five minutes of bad performance; then performance will be fine. Don't freak out if performance is bad for the first couple of minutes... when the scan is done, you will be in for a pleasant surprise!

I purchased it on sale during the holidays. Replaced the original 4GB ram with two 8GB DDR4 sticks (PNY - 8GB 2.4GHz PC4-19200 DDR4 ). There are two ram slots. I removed the original stick and put in two new ones. Also, I added Samsung 860 EVo SSD. There is a bay for SSD (or HD), but no cable (ribbon). I purchased one on line from another supplier for only $10.50 (Original SSD Hard Drive Cable Connector for HP Envy 17 17-J 17T M7 (J000, Jxxx Series) 15-J000 SATA HDD Cable DW17 6017B0421501 6017B0421601 ). While it is for a 17" HP, it is a perfect fit. Not only it was the correct length, but it came folded to fit perfectly. The only challenge was to find the HDD port on the motherboard (it is clearly labeled, but I had to use a magnifying glass to find it). One pops up the top (gently) puts in the end of the ribbon cable (connectors down) and closes it. After restarting, laptop recognized the additional drive. For about a total of $330 I now have a 16GB laptop with 128 GB (BTW the roigninal drive is also good quality m2 and can be upgraded) and 500GB drives.

I just needed something with Wi-Fi for the "mancave", to check on eBay and e-mails. I knew ahead of time I hate laptop touchpads, so had a wireless keyboard and trackball ready to go. For just occasional use the 14" screen is okay, long sessions kind of need a bigger one to reduce eye strain. I took off a star because of "S Mode". You can't download anything without turning it off and Microsoft doesn't have many options in the store.

Great laptop for simple functions such checking emails, basic web surfing, using apps like Spotify, Netflix/Hulu, etc. Is also very good for school work using Microsoft office. Not so good using heavy graphics & programming, it runs very slow!! This laptop is not good for heavy games either! It comes equipped with Windows 10 S-Mode, which only allows you to install software and apps from the official Microsoft store. This was an issue for me when I tried to download the scan driver for my printer (Canon - 3 in One) not compatible with the Windows S Mode. You could turn off the S Mode, but Microsoft warns you that your laptop will become vulnerable to safety issues. Also, once you turn off the S Mode, you cannot turn it back on.

Bought this for my daughter as a last-minute Christmas gift after her previous HP 17 inch got the blue screen of death. So far it’s a decent little machine. It’s built very well. Solid frame and feels quality, not flimsy. She uses it primarily for Roblox and other gaming. She said it seemed a little laggy at first but now it’s not so bad. For the $199 price I can’t complain. Santa came through in the clutch!

For the price this is a great computer! Mostly I wanted something I could use for my own personal study, for communicating with my friends, for my JAVASCRIPT and HTML hobby, and taking care of personal business online. I can keep up with the news and investigate whatever subject comes to mind. All this I can do without having to spend a whole lot!! Besides that it is lightweight and it looks nice!

I got this on sale for $199 and added an additional 8GBs of Ram for a total of 12GBs for under a hundred bucks. Machine works well for my purposes, which aren't to demanding. It's good for school, streaming, email and the like. The processor isn't the best, but forunder $200 it was a steal. You have to take it out of windows-s mode if you want to use the included security software.

My son needed a laptop and this one met all his requirements. It was easy to use, and efficient. He can easily use all the applications for school, and then use it browse the internet, or watch a show. Perfect size for a teenager, easy to carry, which means less chance he will drop this laptop, which means his parents are happy. I have a laptop that cost 4x times as much and this one is just as easy to use, and as nice. I was pleasantly surprised.

We bought 2 of these for our teens to use for schoolwork during this pandemic. I wanted to wait for a while to review, to ensure there were no issues down the road. These computers work like a dream! Plenty of space for all the apps and programs online school uses. I may see about placing a bit more memory in the computer, if possible, just to boost the RAM response. However, the computer still performs beautifully.

I bought this for my 72 yr old father for just web surfing and email. He is on a slow dsl connection, so a fast/expensive computer is pointless for him. I used this for a couple days on my fast (50-100mps) wifi and it performed well. Not blazing fast, but perfectly fine for the price. If your looking for a low cost windows 10 laptop, this fits the bill.

I purchased this computer as a Christmas present for my dad, so I personally haven’t used it a whole lot. I did get a chance to use for an hour or so and it seems to be perfect for what he needs it for EX: Social media, checking emails, streaming videos, paying bills online. My dad is not a gamer or someone who needs a super fast computer, and this one fit the bill and has everything he needs (basic hardware & software) The computer came shipped with Windows 10 S which simplifies things for him. I have the option to convert it to regular Windows 10 Home, but haven’t seen any reason to do that as of yet. If you are looking for a computer that is cost friendly, and is needed for basic computer tasks, this would be a good option. If you need a computer for all day everyday use or gaming, this is not the computer for you.

I adore this laptop! Of course for the price there are some small glitches but the laptop is great overall. I’m a fairly light laptop user. Never really download things to desktop or play games or anything like that just needed it to do college homework and stream netflix/hulu. the laptop comes in S mode which i took off because i needed chrome for school (covid hit and lectures turned into online) and explorer wasn’t great for blackboard collaborate. the first week was smooth but by the second week the laptop started to show some flaws, mainly lagging flaws & sometimes when i do the brightness it delays. also i love that it has a fan but it is kind of loud (i don’t mind just a little annoying) i started doing a bit more heavier work as i started a blog (it’s called popxo, shameless plug LOL) and dealing with wordpress and divi and building a website it works okay with that it isn’t the best but it definitely isn’t terrible! chrome works better for that too as the lagging is minimized on chrome. it streams amazingly! and is the perfect laptop for minimal use. the look is so sleek and the screen is perfect while also being super lightweight. haven’t been able to get long battery life off of the power chord but i guess it’s decent. i love this laptop and it was a very pleasant surprise performance wise for the price sorry if this was all over the place! hope every one is safe , supplied , and healthy during this crazy time (:

This laptop is exactly what we needed - something simple and easy to use. The only downfall to this is that Microsoft makes it hard to set up quickly - you have to have a microsoft ID and cannot use an old one. They also put everything in SMode and make it confusing and difficult to remove. Once you figure that out its easy to use.

This laptop is perfect for the enthusiast or beginner and can be upgraded to a larger ssd drive and it can be upgraded to 16gb of ram that said i bought a PNY ddr4 8gb and it is compatible and works great . Now the performance is just fine for watching movies and surfing the web but i dont think this will play those AAA games .. The screen is ok it does the job but you have to look at it in a perfect way or it looks washed out BUT you can do some changes in the Radeon settings to your liking.. There is no cd drive so you will need an external if desired .. The unit is very easy to upgrade and take out of S MODE as long as you are logged into your acc with microsoft and note if you dont take it out of S MODE you are restricted to what you can download. The build is impressive for this price point if feels very sturdy . ( THE BATTERY IS NOT VERY GOOD FOR LONG TERM AS YOU MAY GET A DAY OUT OF IT ) OVERALL i would recommend this to anyone looking for a decent laptop but you may need some tech savy person to do the upgrades and configuration to your liking ...

This is my first time purchasing a computer without an intel processor. Speed seems ok. computer screen picture is subpar compared to my more expensive hp laptop. but it works for what I needed it for, (basically to run a program to scan inventory in). For the price it was a smart purchase. Using it for gaming or video or pictures. I would get a different computer

As a student this laptop has been a life saver. I had a different model HP that I got for cheap and it just couldn’t cut it for my classes. This one is worth the money! The battery is excellent, it runs smooth and quick and so far I’ve had no issues with memory or lagging. For simple tasks such as writing papers or doing online classes it’s a perfect fit.
