Hello -- quick review -- first... I am typing on my 3 year old version of this very same HP Pavilion G series 15.6" laptop. -- It has AMD processor, Windows 7, 4GB -- the keyboard does NOT have the "side adding machine" -- only the number keys up top #which I prefer, although most now manufactired have the full keyboard#. -- This PC has been a delight. -- Wonderful value. -- Now... I am not a "Gamer" -- therefore I do not care that it does not have the "Oomph" for those. -- As for the PC... works magnificently. -- The DVD/CD player works very well. -- The picture is fine -- I admit, NOT as "bold and colorful" as an iPad #did a side-by-side video clip comparison# -- but, to me... the viewing of film and music clips is ALL the iPad is good for. -- My only complaint... the keyboard is a tad "clicky" in sound -- and doesn't have a backlight. -- The Outer shell Top piece -- glossy plastic, is well... not an expensive piece -- must treat gingerly, with care. -- Battery time was 3 hrs. years ago... now about 2 hrs. on a full charge. #Charges fast!# -- I HIGHLY recommend this lovely laptop - when I purchased this one, it was over $100. more than this 2014 selling today. -- If this piece didn't work so WELL... I'd be tempted to buy the NEW ONE! -- Enjoy! Happy 2015 to all! -- Neil K

    Great with a few inconveniences

This laptop is noticeably faster, quieter and runs more smoothly than my old one I got for $200 more a few years ago. So from first view it's pretty great. However, the keyboard isn't. The touchpad isn't very sensitive and scrolling is reversed which is really annoying. The function keys (to change brightness, volume, etc.) don't work at all. Occasionally it will "work" but not until 5-60 seconds after you press the keys...

I find this laptop great for email, web browsing, browsing photos and all general PC work Runs a model flight simulator just fine but I'm sure it would not do the latest demanding games. Video is fine. Really good value for an average user. Thin, light, good keyboard. Great screen. HDMI, USB3 USB2, DVD drive. All I need At a price that could not be beat.

Needed inexpensive laptop for windows-only programs. This laptop was the right price. It has all the necessary features and is quite light for a 15.6 inch screen. I upgraded to 8gb ram ( +$40 ), and now it runs very quickly. Windows 8.1 is okay. AMD Quad-Core A6-5200 'processor' is nimble and handles most things I ask of it. Overall, not bad, not bad at all!

I've been pretty impressed with this laptop, good performance, solid battery life. All at a bit of a steal! Unfortunately, I just found out that the computer doesn't have a bluetooth radio, meaning I can't pair it with my speakers! Otherwise, I'm happy with it.

    Good PC for a starter

I bought this PC for my son as a starter computer for school homework. It started up with out issues, and runs great. IE runs like a turtle, I installed Chrome, and it loads Web pages lighting fast. I will upgrade the RAM in a month or two for a little better performance. The only issue I have had was the wireless card: it would not connect to an older WiFi router. Overall, it is a very good computer, especially for the price.

I bought this laptop based upon it's specs and price range. Nothing but trouble so far! It's missing some key files, which is my guess, but I can't get it to do a darn thing. And since it's not doing a darn thing, I can't restore factory settings. In addition, there doesn't seem to be a way for me to do that- unlike with other 8.1 computers from what I've looked up online. It comes with a variety of trash thrown at you (because of the "apps" store) that I can't use because I have an Iphone. It, of course, repeatedly suggests Bing search as my default home page. Each subscreen option selected takes about 5-10 minutes to register that I've selected it. Overall, about what I expected from Windows 8- a piece of trash that destroys otherwise quality product. Perhaps mine is faulty, perhaps not. As I stare over at it, it has resumed it's blue screen with arrow key- meaning I will have to manually shut it off to get it to do anything again. I am not happy. If I can't get this thing to work by tomorrow it's going straight back without it's box since I opened it in my college's lunch hall, hoping to use it for class. My mistake I know, but I was hoping to use it for research. Upon going back to the trash barrel, the trash had been dumped.

Not worth the money - appears cheaply built

I bought this laptop for my freshman year of college. Being on a budget I didn't want to spend much and needed something to get me through a year or two. Found this laptop in a package deal that included an antivirus, case, and wireless mouse. To no surprise the package is no longer offered. It worked well for a couple of months then began to experience problems. To start, the screen will sometimes turn on with the right 3/4 of it solid black and must be closed then reopened to solve the issue. The trim around the screen appears to be flimsy and the entire display feels like it has been loosely attached to the computer. On several occasions the mousepad has stopped working while in class which turns into nothing but a headache when trying to take notes. I also heard what sounded like loose parts inside, and upon taking the back panel off found many of the screws holding circuitry in place were rolling around inside and had to be reattached. This computer also has had to be rebooted by my university's IT department 3 times so far this semester. The speakers are on the bottom of the computer making it very hard to hear if not placed on a desk. Webcam quality is also very poor compared to that of other computers. I do like the quality of display and large keyboard, the CD/DVD drive has never given me a problem. Processor is decent for what I need it for but has some apparent issues. Windows 8.1 is a very well designed operating system. However, this computer will not be making a comeback for next year. If you do not use a computer much and need something lower priced then this laptop would fit you well. But if you must have computer access a lot in one day like me then do not buy this. I feel it would be better to save your money and buy a higher quality laptop such as a Lenovo, Dell, or Mac.

    Cheap In Price and Quality

Bought this HP for just under $250 for my grandmother who just needed a very basic and simple to use computer in order to email, surf the web, and play DVDs and CDs. Unfortunately, this computer turned out to be one big headache from start to finish and I returned it a few days after the purchase and picked up a less expensive ASUS, which so far has worked exceptionally without incident unlike this HP. The 3 MAJOR issues I dealt with on the HP were: 1) the computer constantly froze up on numerous occasions while surfing the web (with only 1 or 2 web pages open), 2) the POWER DVD program (which was the pre-programmed dvd player) would constantly freeze up or simply not start-up when a disc was inserted or while the disc was in play, 3) the optical drive was downright AWFUL, not sure exactly what the issue was integrally with the unit but I literally had to press the little eject button on the optical drive half a dozen times, every time I wanted to open it, before it would finally open and once it did open I felt as if the door was going to break off whenever I inserted or removed a disc (one cheap, flimsy piece of plastic). So obviously in conclusion, I felt this computer was a complete piece of junk and would not recommend this particular HP to anyone, especially when there seem to be better quality computers available for the same cost or less.
