Good Budget Laptop

This HP laptop is great for a user on a budget but still has tons of storage with the 750GB HD. Small and compact. If the 4GB RAM was at least 6GB or more, it'd be a great machine.

I can not believe that a laptop at this quality is only $300. The Quad Core processor makes gaming pretty decent, and web browsing quick too! The laptop has a great, rigid feel to it, which I like, since it does not show any oily fingerprints. The full size keyboard is excellent too! The 4 GB RAM is decent, although I upgraded to 8GB RAM, because it only came with 1 4GB slot of RAM in. Everything about a laptop with this quality is excellent. My Only con is that the battery is horrible, lasting me about 2-3 hours. Otherwise, you can NOT beat a price for this laptop.

Won't stay connected to the internet and slow when it does. Awful machine! If I thought you would take it back I would upgrade to a Mac product.

Blows a quad core pentium processor out of the water. Starts quickly, minimal bloatware for a computer these days. Only took about a half hour of adjustments to get it to be a quick functioning pc. Starts up in less than 20 seconds from the time you press the start button. Can run multiple applications without much lag. Overall great value. Would highly recommend for anyone that wants a good pc for browsing the internet, playing basic games, Office, music, and videos without the high price tag.

This is a great laptop for those on a budget. For $300.00 you really can't go wrong. It's not for gaming or anything that's super intensive like video editing, but if all you need is an everyday computer, this is the one to get.
It only comes with 4gb of RAM, but is upgradeable. I'm not sure how much you can add, but I put in an 8gb RAM module and it works with that.
To boost your speed a bit more, install a SSD drive. I recommend a Samsung 850 Pro or 850 Evo. If you don't have a ton of stuff that you store on your computer, then 128 Gb SSD should be plenty. If you need more storage, they make them in larger sizes.
Anyone looking for a decent laptop for their kids or grand-kids to start out on should definitely consider this one. I purchased two other laptops that were more expensive than this one and I'm happier with it than I was with the other ones.
Buy two, they're cheap! :)

This is a good laptop for the price considering ur getting the AMD A8 with the R5 graphics. Beats the intel celeron Quad core which only has the basic HD graphics. I Do gaming..Black Ops etc and this laptop will play that. You can get AMD Catalyst free online which speeds up the games u have. Very helpful..Intel has no such counterpart. The Ram is easy to get to just 2 screws on a small panel on the bottom and pop it off. The HDD however is a nightmare to get to.Other than that don't be afraid to try this computer. It's a feisty little machine.

I've bought the $299.00 laptop before and been incredibly disappointed with it's performance, especially booting up. Not so with this one. Even before upgrading the memory, (which has a free slot, 1 4GB module installed so you don't have to scrap the old memory to upgrade), it still flies along. I did not use a Microsoft account (just local account) when setting up so that may be speeding up Windows 8 but I am incredibly happy with this purchase.

Very Fast, Great HD, not bloated with useless programs, very easy to set up too. Windows 8 is a total pain, however you get use to it. I also want to mention it comes with a cd player for your movies/dvd's this is not mentioned in the description. Now onto the not so good stuff, the battery life SUCKS I get only about 3 hours tops. I took one star because of the battery, which is the only thing I found I dislike about this computer.

This is a very good computer for the price. You need to upgrade the memory for great performance. This may not be necessary if you are only using Windows, but I use Linux primarily, and have Windows as back-up. Still do not like 8.1. I wish HP or others would install Linux out of the box.

We bought this laptop for our daughter, who is graduating from high school and going to college in the fall. So far, it's a great value for the price. It's lightweight, sturdy, boots quickly and seems to be handling whatever we throw at it. Will it work for graphics-intensive gaming? Probably not, but it will be more than adequate for productivity programs, surfing, research, and light gaming. Hopefully she can use it to skype home once in a while too. I'm happy with the purchase.

I purchased this computer for basic use and after nine days, I experienced complete hard drive failure. So I returned the PC to Best Buy and swapped it out for another. I hesitated for a moment when the sales guy asked me if I was "sure" I wanted another of the same. Nevertheless, I bought the second one home and within three days, I turned the PC on one morning and saw that "blue screen of death" but then miraculously, the hard drive recovered. However, one threaten fail on a new pc is unacceptable, so I returned the PC to Best Buy.
The gals at the Return Desk were wonderful. However, not so much in the computer department. I wanted an even trade for this PC but the guy attempted to upsell by about 300.00. I explained that was not in my budget. I was told that they were out of stock of most of their PC except their HP's and was told HP just "isn't a good computer." At this point, this young man walked away. When another sales person offered to help, I asked if they could order a Dell that was out of stock but was on display. I was given the run around and no clear answer about if one could be ordered. This sales person told me there really are no good computers, as they are all considered "disposable" at this price point.
I elected not to purchase a PC from them after my conversation, considering over half their stock consisted of HP products. I don't think ALL HPs are bad..but this particular model seems to have issues.

Disappointed

Wow, what a disappointment. I did my homework and this sounded like a great, basic laptop and would meet my needs. After reading a lot of reviews, I bought it. After getting it set up, within a less than an hour, I began having trouble with it. First, the display driver failed and then appeared to recover based on the error message I received on the screen, and then shortly after that, the screen went to black and the computer began making a strange buzzing sound. After that, I shut it down and waited awhile. I tried restarting it, and it did start back up, but after all that's happened, it's going back to the store. I don't know what the issue is with this one...Maybe I got a lemon, but I won't be getting another of the this model. I've had a number of computers over the years, but have never had an issue with a brand new one like this. As I said, disappointed.
