My New HP 17.3" Laptop Purchase
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I found the set up easy with the with the computers verbal instruction guide. I was up any running without a hitch. I really like the silver color and the the buttonless mouse pad. The large 17.3" screen makes work tasks easier on the eyes and watching videos or movies more enjoyable. The screen is fastened with one long hinge as opposed to two individual hinges, which I have found to break over time on other computer products. Great product!

Love this HP Laptop
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought the HP laptop to replace a much older Dell. We liked the size of the scree, the available memory and the storage of the hard drive. We liked that it has an Intel Core. This laptop is much faster than what we had and it runs all of the software like Microsoft 365 our family uses.

Posted .Hi Reka,
Thanks for your review. I can certainly understand your concern in regards to the slowness of this laptop, so I wanted to provide some info and insight.
This laptop will go through a series of updates once it has been powered on for the first time out-of-box. These updates can take up to one hour to complete and attempting to use programs or running tasks while the system is updating may result in slow or poor performance as key resources are being utilized to support the updates that may not be visible to users. Once the device has completed the update / optimization process, the system’s resources should return to full utilization and you may begin to access your device as designed.
If you're still experiencing issues after the initial start-up process, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at support.hp.com.

Good Computer.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very good computer. I've had the computer for 2 days and I already love it. The only thing I can say is it did appear to be much slower than the chromebook I use to have. When I initially started the computer , it was the first think I noticed. But remember a chromebook is not a "computer". A chromebook is basically an android tablet put with a keyboard with a chrome system installed. Chrome web is known for being quick so you are gonna get quick web search. With that being said, Microsoft edge web browser on this hp laptop kind of sucks. So I downloaded chrome app to use as my default web browser. I use this computer mainly for work ( I'm a teachers assistant ) and for school ( college student ). Long story short: If your going to use the lap top for such uses like mine, you should be good. By the way, if you have slow internet, this computer won't work. Having high speed internet is crucial for making this computer run. It's a decent computer for the price. As the usual saying " You get what you pay for ". The more you spend, better quality. It's a 500 dollar computer. If you want top notch than you are looking at spending at least 1000 and up. Don't complain if your not spending the money on a high end computer. Quick tips: Buy the insurance for lap top. If anything happens you will be protected. My chromebook fell cracked screen and was unrepairable. Geek squad gave me the full amount best buy store credit. I used the gift card towards my new hp lap top. So yes, insurance definiteley worth it. Also, protect your computer. Buy a computer sleeve cover and case. And keep it out of reach of children. I hope you enjoy your new hp!

Not as slow as some say, but still slow
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decent laptop for under $450, especially with so few options in this price range and a shortage of everything on Earth. Many reviewers noted that it is very slow, while others said "Do the updates." We did all the updates. Is it still slow? Yes and no. When you first move to a task window, it can be very slow - unresponsive. And you can certainly tell the difference from a more responsive computer. Once you are in the groove, however (and I cannot tell you precisely how that happens or why), it moves along well. We are only doing browsing and office tasks. Because we needed a big screen and a separate number pad, we're ok with this. Other users may not be.

The HP i3 is a True Bargain
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price there is nothing better. I bought a second i3 machine for my wife today. The windows 10 setup and windows update process is agonizing. But after the 4 to 8 hours of sluggish performance, the i3 laptop is just as fast as an i5 desktop or an i7 laptop for light computing (word processing, spreadsheet calculations, and video streaming). I own both an i5 and i7 machines; so the comparison is first hand. The light weight, bright screen, and beautiful feel of the keyboard make the computer a delightful portable. I wonder if the negative reviews of others, which complain of slow performance, were based on the four hour plus windows setup and update period, when the computer cannot be used for anything. Which brings us to Windows. Windows update is a curse to anyone trying to get work done. Each Thursday night, Windows sends out hundreds of megabytes of updates, which are downloaded and installed. And during the installation, Windows slows down and sometimes even turns off the internet until it reboots, finalizing the installation. The horrible design of the Windows Kernel belies the constant need for updates to maintain the integrity of the system. Still, I use Windows for work day in and day out. Why use such a horrible system? No choice! 1) Almost every program works flawlessly with windows. 2) The file system and the command processor are not case sensitive, which is much more convenient than than Linux or Mac. 3) Visual Basic for Applications, when combined with Excel, is the greatest tool for data analysis ever written. 4) Since Windows is almost the universal platform, work can be delivered to almost any computer. Linux is close, but it just is not there yet for universal usage. And so I (we) put up with Windows updates. By the way, after more than 4 1/2 hours windows is still updating on my wife's new i3 computer. With all new computers, I force all the updates at once using "Check for Updates."

Durable
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is nice. It’s flat and easy to carry. The only problem I have is that it runs slow. Maybe it’s the WiFi in my home. Other than that it’s a nice laptop with a lot of features.

Slow boot
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very slow to boot into windows, even with an ssd! Cpu is i3 - programs load quickly. Like the 17 in monitor and number pad. Wish it had lighted keyboard but price was reason for buying, replacing 11 year old laptop.

||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Right out of the box was amazed by size and quality of this laptop! Its huge screen looks amazing and its super thin body makes good for storing for travel. Only down fall and i mean only down fall is it does not have a cd-rom drive. With that said easy fix i bought a blu-ray burner cd-rom drive for 70 and it works flawlessly with the laptop. The huge hardrive (1T byte) is perfect for what i needed and the ram is super fast. Strongly recommend this laptop! I am a professional photographer and edit tons of photos and couldn't have asked for a better laptop for that and schooling!

Pretty Decent Computer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this computer for my Mother in law. At first, the computer was a little aloe, but after the 4+ hours of updates things ran much faster. The only thing I didn't like about the computer at first was the INCREDIBLY slow boot up times. I'm talking like 4+ minutes. After uninstalling all unnecessary software/ bloat ware boot time went down to just over 3 minutes which still sucks. Finally I uninstalled McCaffe antivirus and installed Total 360. This made the boot time a respectable 40 seconds. All in all the computer is decent, but the bloat ware needs to be uninstalled to make it useable in my opinion

original drive was unable to boot due to BitLocker
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this 'open box/excellent' laptop a couple of weeks ago. When I got it, it would not boot, but asked for the BitLocker unlock key. Since I had not installed BitLocker, that was not a good thing. In fairness, Best Buy tried to help. I was finally sent to a store in Davenport FL to see if the 'Geek Squad' could help. After trying a couple of USB plugins, nothing could be done so I was told that I could return it. I didn't want to do so. Instead I willfully voided the MFG. warranty and opened the laptop, removed the defective drive, and replaced it with as SSD I had that had Linux Mint 20.1 installed. It worked very well, but I was still not satisfied. After scouring the World Wide Web to find out if Bitlocker could be bypassed, I found a solution, that turned out to be a destructive format of the hard drive. After I repartitioned the original drive with NTFS, I thought I'd try to just install Windows 10 from a Microsoft Windows 10 Installation CD. No luck. The installer couldn't find the drive, although booting into a Linux USB memory stick could indeed see it. Sigh...I just opened the laptop again, which is not very easy to do. In the old days, HP used to have a couple of slider switches on the back case which allowed one to remove the back case to get to the hard drives and external battery. That's another thing...this machine has the battery located inside, so it is not easy to replace. So, here I am with a laptop that never worked from the initial boot and now has a different OS on a different SSD than the drive that was installed by the factory. I have had HP machines in the past and have always been satisfied with them. I can't say the same with this machine.

Excellent product
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really like this laptop. It is much faster than previous laptop that had the same processor and storage space. It was made by a different company, so wondering if this laptop has less bloatware. Really enjoy the larger screen and the space in front of the keys. I find that I am able to rest my wrists and don't have accidental touches that interrupted my typing. Overall, really like this computer. Really feel like we got a great deal for the price.

So far I am glad to have a computer by HP
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am pleased with the purchase about 3 weeks ago. The screen is wide and the memory good. The salesman warned me that it did not have the greatest processing power, but it seems adequate. I was flummoxed by the data transfer, though, because at least three documents I needed for upcoming weeks were lost. Fortunately, I was able to rewrite what I had written for three speaking engagements. But it would be good to remind customers to save documents they need on a thumb drive or external hard drive, because data can be lost in transfer,
