Customers frequently mention the excellent picture quality and smooth refresh rate, making it ideal for gaming. Many appreciate the monitor's affordability and ease of setup. However, some users wish it included speakers, and a few have noted issues with viewing angles and the LED indicator light. The absence of built-in speakers is a recurring negative comment.

HP 25x gives you the freesync you are looking for.

This is a nice FHD 1080p monitor at 24 inches with AMD's Freesync. I paired this up with an HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop that has an AMD Ryzen 5-Series, 8GB Memory and AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB. This is my second gaming PC as I have 240hz on my main gaming rig. But so far so good as the PC gives constant framerate while delivering sharper detail throughout. Gameplay was phenomenal giving me the performance I would never see on a 60hz monitor at all. This is a 144hz monitor so you are getting one of the best of the best when it comes to gaming especially for eSports titles. Fortnite was smooth with popping colors, Final fantasy XV magic particles pop off the screen, Fronz Horizon 4 graphics was BEAUTIFUL on the display, and DOOM was Blazing fast.
The HP 25x can swivel in portrait mode and there is a height adjustment which goes up pretty far. The monitor itself is designed really well and it looks nice its green and silver (to match the HP gaming desktop.) but wish it was red and black for the sake of team AMD. The screen is edge to edge and looks good on a desk. While the monitor is bold in design there are a few shortcomings here but not enough to kill the gaming experience for you. First off the HP 25x doesn't come with a DisplayPort cord at all, you must buy one to appreciate the 144hz / Freesync feature. HP dropped the ball here as Acer gives you these cords with their Predator series. HDMI is provided with the display but will not provide you the Freesync. You will be missing out on what you are paying for. Another thing here is a small amount of lightbleed on the sides of the display, It's not distracting enough to get in the way of gaming or video but it is there. There are no USB 3.0 ports on the HP 25x monitor which isn't a big deal and there is a lineout/headphone jack but I have yet to test this. The OSD menu has a host of options including turning off the LED green power light but its also basic. There are color profiles, power management, and others.
Overall, in my opinion, this is a good monitor to have if you are getting into AMD's Freesync or you just want to get into 144hz goodness with games. I think personally at the price this would be a perfect entry level Freesync. It will showcase your PC in a new light with gaming. The blazing smooth and responsive monitor delivers here on the 25x. You can't go wrong here.

Decent, But...

This is a decent monitor for gaming. It's one of the smoothest I've used so far thanks to 144hz refresh and 1 ms response time. But... it has some issues. Most noticable/annoying is it has severe backlight bleed through. It is not too noticeable while playing games, but on dark menu screens, watching movies, or a dark wallpaper of your desktop, it stands out like a sore thumb. Another issue is the led lighting, or lack thereof. The stock picture for this monitor will have you believe the whole bottom of the monitor lights up a cool led green. The truth is only the center part does. On top of that, the sides look like cheap greenish plastic that's not even close to the same color as the green led. Luckily you can disable the led altogether to achieve a more uniform look.
There are some things I really like about this monitor. For starters, 144hz works over HDMI. This is true on both my RX 580, and GTX 1080. Another great feature is that the monitor height is adjustable. You can raise it about 4 inches. This is great for me because it brings to monitor up to eye level. This means less stress on the neck. This also allows you to use the display in portrait mode by raising and rotating the screen.
*Note:
The picture I added was taken using an LCD screen tester online using solid black in fullscreen mode.

Just a few weeks of using it. Red spot appeared on the screen. I attached a photo. Disappointing that this happened for a short time of using. This monitor is not cheap for it to have a bad quality.

The perfect *Gaming Monitor under $200!

As you can make it out from the title, I have purposely added the * to indicate certain things about this monitor
Let me begin with the good things about the HP 25x.
1. So I got this in a deal of $200, which if you ask me, is an amazing price drop from the original.
2. Off the bat, the screen refresh rate is the first feature that this monitor has to boast. It took me few settings to get the screen set to 144HZ(By default it is at 60Hz), but once it's adjusted in Windows/macOS, you don't need to do it again. It feels very smooth and trust me, if you are going to buy a monitor this expensive, you might as well get the 144Hz panel. Once you get hooked to 144Hz displays, there is no going back to the 60Hz panels!
3. The 1ms response time is amazing. There is no input lag whatsoever and I love play first-person and third-person games on this monitor!
4. The colors are amazing and content consumption is a delight on this screen! I had no complaints and this is coming from someone very particular about display quality!
5. It tilts into VERTICAL MODE, which was one of the main reasons why I choose this monitor! The build quality is fantastic and it makes a statement on your desk!
Now, coming to some of the bad points that might make this monitor a bad deal for you.
1. The viewing angles are not very good. When you look at the monitor from the right side, you will see a red tinge on top of the content. That becomes a major turn off for people who want to read on the screen and have the flexibility of viewing angles. (I don't mind the red tinge because most of the times I am looking directly at the screen.)
2. The monitor itself is moderately heavy and bulky, considering it is a big screen. If you are someone who wants a lightweight and easy to move around monitor, then this monitor is not for you. It has enough weight to make this task tough.
3. When you buy this monitor, it's not going to be on 144Hz by default. YOU WILL HAVE TO DO IT MANUALLY. Setting the monitor to 144hz is a daunting task. I had to google a lot but it turns out it has a simple fix in windows setting itself.

Great 144Hz display. Kinda G-Sync compatible?

First of all, this display produces a great picture and does indeed properly display at 144Hz as tested with TestUFO. As far as the (admittedly somewhat gaudy) green lighting goes, the picture is somewhat misleading, as it's only the area beneath the HP logo that's lit up. That lighting can be changed or turned off through the monitor's settings. The anti-glare finish is personally appreciated but others may prefer a glossy display.
The monitor's size is probably at the upper limit of what's acceptable at 1080p, but I think it still looks fine at that resultion. While a higher resolution would have been appreicated, it also would have meant a higher price, and I personally care more about the refresh rate than having 4k at this point.
The (basically brand new as of writing this) Nvidia drivers that enable G-Sync for Nvidia cards on Freesync monitors seems to at least kind of work. This monitor is NOT on the short list of Nvidia-approved Freesync monitors to use with G-Sync, so it may have more issues with G-Sync than what I've found with the small amount of testing I've done. I've had success with Nvidia's pendulum test as well as running Final Fantasy XV, but some other games like Final Fantasy XIV have had issues with G-Sync, such as stuttering (it may be because I run FFXV in fullscreen but FFXIV in borderless windowed. More testing may be needed).
If you really care about G-Sync and want to get it from a cheaper Freesync monitor, you'll probably be best off buying a model from Nvidia's list as support on this monitor seems like it may be a bit shaky. If you don't care about G-Sync or you're an AMD graphcis user, this monitor is a wonderful affordable option for a 144Hz monitor.

This monitor is wonderful. I am a very picky person when it comes to my peripherals. As an engineer, I spend most of my time at my workstation whether at home or at the office. I bought this monitor as my at home monitor for everything from gaming to development. After shopping around for a while and looking at nearly every option under 300 (wanted to eventually get two and saw no reason to spend big money), I saw this on my way out of Best Buy as a demo and played with it for a few minutes. After seeing how little motion blur there was, how vivid the colors were, and how thin the frame was, I bought it right then. Now I’m going back to get a second one for added real estate.
Sure its only 1080p but its one of the best 1080p screens I’ve used and being 144hz and free sync enabled, $280 is a steal.
If you don’t care about the 4K hype and you want an affordable Gaming monitor, this is the ticket.

HP - 25x 24.5" LED FHD Monitor - Gray/Green
Summary:
A nice bevel-less design that maximizes screen real-estate for the foot print.
This display is a standard display that operates in 1080p.
Pros:
This display is a nice sexy display great for a gaming setup that isn't yet upgraded to 4K. It looks svelt and mount arm allows for a nice degree of adjustment.
Cons:
Price point is kind of high for what you're getting. Considering the lack of ports, I think it is right at the boundary where I would heavily consider paying a little more money for a 4K display (if I had 4K capable hardware that would run at a decent frame rate).
The green LED lighting on the front panel is cool, but it is also bright with only a few options for customization (in terms of brightness/ mode). In a dark room, it will be more light than I think I'd want when in a gaming session. Also, I am more Sith than Borg, so the bright green is something I wish I could change.
Use:
This unit is paired with an HP - Pavilion Gaming Desktop equipped with an AMD Radeon RX 580 graphics adapter. I've compared this display against a non-Freesync display (Dell 24") and the difference is discernable. The bevel-less design gives the impression of more screen real-estate in addition to total lack of screen tear or jitter (?) that was noticed on the Dell.
I don't think I would recommend this display only because of the price point. It pairs well with HP gear and performs nicely, but the lack of ports and the price just make it a tough sell.

This is my first 144hz monitor and let me just say wow. People that say there is no difference from 60hz to 144hz have never tried it. Flawless to achieve 144 fps. 100% recommend. The only con I have is that the controls take some getting use to but overall really good.

I was looking for a 144hz monitor with G-sync at a good price. Came accross this 144hz monitor with Free-sync (AMD Graphics card), however, it is G-sync compatible (NVIDIA Graphics card). This monitor is spectacular giving me up to 144fps with amazing picture quality. Highly recommend this monitor if you are looking for a 144hz gaming monitor.

This monitor is just amazing!
Good price, and looks great (as long as you can look past the green light on the bottom)
Response time is great and the 144Hz refresh rate is smooooth.
It has one HDMI 2.0 and one DisplayPort connection on the back. I use the HDMI port and I can still get the full 144Hz, so if you're maybe worried about that, don't (I was, but turns out HDMI 2.0 has the ability for a 1080p 144Hz signal).
Colors look pretty good. Has a few options in the monitor settings as well. Not anything like IPS displays get, but it does the job for games.
It is FreeSync enabled, which also makes it Gsync compatible, but only over a DisplayPort connection.
All in all, great monitor for the price. Highly recommend if you're on a budget.

Perfect monitor, paid 179. Unbeatable at that price. It is 144 contrary to what some reviewers have stated. Just understand you NEED to use a display port cable, HDMI can only support 120hz. it does say optimal refresh is 60hz on the included papers but I've run 144 since day one with 0 issues. Been about a month now and have no regrets. 10/10 would buy again.
couple notes:
Mine did NOT come with a display port cable, luckily I had one left from a samsung monitor. Without this you will not get 144hz.
the accent lights on the monitor can be turned off using the menu on the monitor, it shows 3 green stripes in the photos but only the center one actually lights up. was kind of bummed but no big deal really. only bummed bc it would've went along with my color scheme but still is good.
No overlay crosshair for FPS games in case anyone was wondering.
Would recommend over again to anyone as of now. will update if anything changes.

This monitor is great for gaming which is what I've been mainly using it for. I used it with a gtx 1080 gpu and on the games I play like rainbow 6, ow and cod. I easily get over 200 fps in r6 and cod and the 144hz is so good for shooters like this. On cod I get around 90 fps but still the monitor does well, no screen tearing or ghosting and the colors are great. Some people don't like the lights on the bottom but I turned the brightness of it down and think it looks pretty cool. The only fault is that I am thinking of getting a new gpu and may be looking for a 1440p monitor in the future. This being 1080p and 144hz though is an amazing value and highly recommend it if that's what your gpu is capable of putting out.

I like this monitor. It’s a good size to where it fits in somewhat of a small space but it’s still relatively big. I keep it in my living room and it doesn’t stick out. Pros: perfect size, 144 hz, fast response time, decent colors, build quality
Cons: TN panel, it doesn't tilt down far enough so I need to find a better mount that does, also I personally find that it's a little too bright in the dark at the lowest brightness setting but this is remedied by having a small light nearby

I had bought this monitor on sale for a very low price compared to other similarly performing monitors, at 1080p 144hz with 1ms response time, I was very happy with the product, as it was my first high refresh rate monitor. The color accuracy is very impressive, and while it's a mere 1080p compared to other 1440p or 4K monitors for gaming, I personally don't mind pixel densities or resolutions above 1080p all that much. I moved from a laptop to a desktop about a month after purchasing this monitor, and decided to buy a second one to match the first, and both are phenomenal. You won't want to go back to 60hz after this!
