Expensive but functional product. Would be better if it was more affordable

This toner cartridge was sold to me by Best Buy as an "add on" when I bought my printer. It was suggested as an item frequently bought together with the printer that I was purchasing. So I added it to my shopping cart. When I went to install it 9 months later I discovered it was the wrong one. Best Buy would not accept it for return/replacement because (1) it was open and (2) it exceeded their return window.
I'm very disappointed to hear of these circumstances. We understand customers want to avoid receiving an old or damaged box. To verify the cartridge, go to www.hp.com/anticounterfeit/. If you would like to receive an exchange, see our site at www.hp.com/us-en/shop/cv/returnsandexchanges. I hope your next HP experience is excellent.

The shipping took longer than promised. Accidentally bought the wrong ink and the employee at the store said I wasn’t allowed to return it since I opened the box to see if it would fit my printer
It is a shame the ink ran out fast. I'm disappointed in the outcome. Let's strategize together to improve your results. The first suggestion is to monitor the ink when it first arrives. This tactic allows you to quickly make a speedy return and notice if something is awry. Another idea is to shut down every time you stop using the printer. This returns the cartridge to a protected position within the printer. Next, limit the printing to black ink. This action saves on buying color ink.

I bought this almost 9 months ago as the printer sent a notification that it was low on toner and the level indicator appeared to be zero. I have since printed hundreds and hundreds of pages with this "empty" cartridge and it's still going. The issue is that I can no longer return the new cartridge if it's defective and I have a cartridge that is a year old (manufacture date 01/29/2018).
I'm sorry that you were sent a black toner cartridge that appears to be defective. However, I hope to help the situation.
The level indicator not working is usually indicative of a refilled cartridge. The gauge will not work properly when the cartridge is not original. However, perhaps it is a defect in the cartridge that is interfering with it.
The warranty on toner cartridges is handled differently depending on what region you are in (to comply with their laws), so the date code on the packages and cartridges is actually a manufacturing date.
In North America. As long as it is a genuine cartridge (not a refill), and not empty (or has triggered a "low" message), you can return a defective one to us for replacement.
Since it is past the time you can return the cartridge to the seller, you can reach out to us for support, by your preferred method found at: hp.com/contactHP

Best buy told me to purchase this toner. They said it would fit. It does not. It is open and I cannot take it back. This is the second one best buy told me to purchase and it was incorrect. I have lost almost 110.00 because of this
I understand the guidance you received was incorrect. The product packaging must be unopened to comply with the Best Buy return policy. Still, I empathize with the challenges of trying a cartridge without opening it. The surefire way to get the right cartridge is to write down the information from your previous cartridge. Search specifically for that cartridge's serial number.

I go thru two replacement cartridges each month.
Very expensive. I have had to seek less expensive cartridges.
