Customers are negative about the limited port selection on this monitor. Many users found the exclusive use of a DisplayPort connection problematic for compatibility with various devices, especially Macs. Some suggested that including additional connection types, such as HDMI or VGA, would significantly improve usability. The lack of alternative ports was a major point of customer frustration.

Display Port Only; Good Monitor

This is a very nice monitor. It's the slimmest, most stylish monitor I've owned. It has decent picture, if perhaps a bit too 'contrasty'.
However, as you can see, it ONLY has a displayport connector. This is a new technology. If you have a newer MacBook, you can use it (they have miniDisplayPort). If you have a newer video card in your system as I do you can use it, (check for the displayPort). If you have a VGA , DVI, or HDMI connector only. YOU CANNOT USE THIS MONITOR.
I feel bad for the frustrated people out there, who thought they could get a great deal and then buy an adapter, but it's just not possible. The adapter if for connecting a -displayPort computer- to an -old monitor-.
While I understand the frustration, and feel their pain, I feel the one-star reviews are undeserved. Saying HP shouldn't sell a monitor that 'doesn't work with their computers' is a bit like saying that Ford shouldn't sell parts for their new F-150 pickups that don't also work in a 1998 Taurus. I can understand someone saying 'Oh, I'm handy, I'll buy the pickup truck part and get an adapter to use in my Taurus'. That might even work in some cases. But in cases where it doesn't, is it the part's fault?
The only thing I can think is they need to advertise the fact that it's diplayPort only, thought I'm not really sure how they'd do that without putting 'displayPort ONLY we mean it DO NOT BUY OTHERWISE' in big letters. There's always problems when a new technology tries to replace an old one and I'm sure there were many upset people who bought USB printers and only had a parallel port and couldn't use them. It's not surprising this is on clearance now, HP obviously moved too quickly to abandon the VGA/DVI connector on this monitor, even if it does allow for a striking, slim appearance.
HOWEVER, if you have a computer that has a displayPort (and please, double check. Not HDMI, not VGA, not DVI, but 'displayPort' or 'miniDisplayPort' or Apple's new 'Thunderbolt') then this is a good monitor and I recommend it.

Great if you have native DisplayPort

Saw the comments about it being DisplayPort only, but figured that with my DisplayPort Macs there would not be a problem. But there was.
The monitor uses the original fat DisplayPort connector, which is NOT used on Macs and never was. You have to buy a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable to use this monitor. The cables are available online for less than $10.
Once you have the cable this is a fine monitor, especially for the price. Looks good next to my Mac Mini. Space-efficient.
I'm very pleased. But if your computer doesn't have DisplayPort, you won't be happy, so don't buy it!

Great DisplayPort

I wanted to add in on this monitor. It has a really great display and is super thin. It rests on the bottom edge using a kickstand on the back. I havent decided how I feel about that. I am looking down at it a little. Anyway, my main reason for the review, is to mention the connectors. The DisplayPort and Power come out of the left hand bottom side. this adds 2-3" of width on the left side that there is no way around. It's like plugging in and HDMI behind your TV on the wall, and it smashes in to the wall (but there are 90deg connectors for that). I have a DisplayPort HP laptop, and I just ordered a second HP monitor for my Macbook Air (with a cable to change it to mini).

NOT for a computer! Keep that in mind!

This looks like a computer monitor. I know from the specs that it is not. It is basically a bigger screen for certain tablets and some smart phones, I'd assume. But it is NOT going to hook up to your TV or PC, making it essentially worthless. I mean it's a high quality product, for what it was made to do... make smartphone pictures bigger? Let you see your Kindle on a slightly larger screen maybe?
For an extra $5, I think they could have stuffed an HDMI port or a VGA in there. Then, I'd buy 5 of these. But as a display port display? Pfft.
For you non-techy people, this is kind of like someone making a $100 tire that only fits ONLY on green Ford Taurus' sold in December 1994 in West Texas. Sure, someone out there needs one, but it really looks like something everyone needs, but is not.

DisplayPort monitor

This monitor is a wonderful monitor however it is Display Port only. The main issue with Display Port is that you can not go from a non display port video source to a Display Port monitor. There is no technology that does this currently.
If you do not have either mini Display Port or Display Port as an output from your computer. This monitor is not for you.

I ordered on line, paid 129.99, picked up at the store on 12-12-12, was on sale for 99.99, went through act of congress to get a $30.00 credit, they told me at store level "it", the system, would not "allow" them to give me a price adjustment, still have not received. Got it home, would NOT plug into my computer it has a displayport connection, went to the store for help, got none, left name and number, no return call, checked on line myself, found an adapter, extra $30.00, called customer service, said they are sending me a check for the $30.00 price adjustment. Received adapter last night, 12-20-12, does NOT WORK!!! Returning monitor and adapter to the store today. I have been WITHOUT A MONITOR for 9-days! Frustrated is putting it mildly!

I originally purchased this based on the description of the product and some of the features. Plus it was on sale. I normally read everything, including the fine print but I'm afraid I didn't read everything, this time. I did not realize that it used a display port cable only. I went and bought an adapter to connect to a dvi-d port. That didn't work. I returned the adapter and got a display port to dvi-d cable. Got it plugged in. No video. I had to use the disc that came with it on another computer to figure out what was wrong. I searched online and found that the consumer could not use any other cable other than what it came with. So I took the cable back and returned this one. Didn't like this one bit.

DISPLAY PORT ONLY

I bought this monitor by the specs/price alone, and was amazed at how slim and Apple-knock-off like it is. Great monitor if...
This is a DISPLAY PORT monitor that works great if your source has DISPLAY PORT video out. Display port is the same quality as HDMI but without the licensing cost associated with HDMI (that's why Apple doesn't put HDMI on anything). If your laptop has Display Port, you can adapt it to HDMI or DVI-D, but a Display Port monitor will always be DISPLAY PORT ONLY, basically because it doesn't comply with the copy protection embedded in HDMI.
I'm using an HP 6565b laptop and this monitor looks amazing with a great contrast ratio and good color without being over saturated, but I have DISPLAY PORT out. Contrary to what other reviewers said, Display Port is not an obscure format for smart phones or the Ford Taurus, and this is the standard Display Port connector. Apple made their own proprietary mini version, probably to save space but also to sell you yet another adapter.
If something is so much cheaper than other comparable products that it seems too good to be true, be sure to at least read the description, if not the reviews. Anyone that even glanced at these reviews would immediately know if this was the right monitor for them. On the other hand, I have a feeling that the price is discounted so deeply because people keep buying the wrong monitor, so thanks!

Ordered to upgrade my Macbook real estate as purchased Air 11" for portability.
Unboxed along with mini displayport to displayport cable and had up and running in literally minutes.
Very please! Even phoned John at BestBuy to receive $12 price adjustment. A pleasure all the way thru. Want to order a second but can't think of what for...it is just that much of a great purchase.
Highly recommend to anyone with Mac product with Thunderbolt/mini displayport.
