Not as advertised combined with bad information

I was interested in this computer specifically because it was advertised with Windows 7 installed. I was a bit hesitant about buying "refurbished," but was reassured by store personnel, who told me the refurbished computers came with a 1 year manufacturer warranty, and I could purchase Geek Squad protection additionally. This is not true. Geek Squad protection is not available on refurbished computers. Additionally, the computer came with Windows 8 installed. Finally, the internet button did not seem to work, and upon trying to turn on the internet internally, the computer informed me that it did not have a wifi adapter installed. So, a brand new, vastly different operating system, without the ability to connect to the internet, to figure out said operating system led to an extremely frustrating evening. Lastly, the touch pad seemed to work intermittently. Needless to say, I returned the defective computer, and have completely lost faith in Geek Squad. This computer was obviously not checked out by anyone before sending it along to me. I understand the computer more than likely had an adapter installed, and tat it was probably a situation of needing to reinstall a driver, but with the new operating system, it was beyond difficult to figure out.

I researched for a long time before deciding on this model. I'm so glad I took my time to learn what I needed. Although my greatest concern was that it was refurbished. I quickly got over that because of the working condition. It is in excellent condition, easy to navigate. Used for personal and some business and it is worth every penny.

I love my new laptop. Wanted an hp because my previous machine was that brand and it lasted a long time under brutal use and abuse by myself and four children. This one seems just like new, except for a few small pen marks on the screen that don't want to come off. It's thinner and lighter than my old laptop, and handles the moderately graphic-intense games I and my children play, plus the old standby business apps that helped pay for it.

I have had it a month and it is working great I'm very suprised that with 4 megs of ram it's as fast as it is,I'm not a big fan of Windows 8 but have little choice there.

I was very curious to see if this laptop would match my expectations, due to it being refurbished, and it definitely did. The performance is wonderful. I have no issues with the computer itself, although I do think the screen resolution could be better, but I'm not a fan of Windows 8 on a non - touchscreen computer.

I got this laptop refurbished and so far I am pleased with it. There are a few things that I noticed that are a bit annoying, but they're not deal-breakers. First thing I noticed is a pixel on the screen that is always bright green (not something I will return the laptop because of, but it annoys me). When I'm loading web pages, they sometimes take MUCH longer than I would expect with this laptop having a four-way processor and 8GB of RAM. My 4 year old laptop loads webpages just as fast, or faster. The DVD/CD drive is a little difficult to open because pushing the button doesn't always do it - you sometimes have to try a second or third time to get it open. And with the touch pad, you have to tap it pretty hard or try a few times to get it to click on icons or links (this isn't always the case, but it's happened). There are ways of changing the settings on your touch pad and other devices, but I haven't yet found a way to change the sensitivity.
THE GOOD: The display is much brighter and the white is much whiter than my old laptop, which makes things look sharp and nice. The laptop is beautiful, the keyboard is nice, and I love that there's a 10-key. Besides the touch pad being a little difficult sometimes, it has features that are pretty cool, like you can zoom in and out by pulling two fingers together or pushing them apart diagonally. You can scroll by moving two fingers up and down. If there are features you don't like, you can turn them off and on to make things easier. The screen is big enough, and the sound is better than what I've heard on other laptops, but I have yet to try plugging in speakers or headphones. And I LOVE the fingerprint scanner. Besides using it to log on, you can also set it up so that each of your fingers takes you to a different web page. I have mine set up so my pointer finger takes me directly to facebook. I think that is so cool, so much faster, and much more convenient.
Windows 8 isn't THAT bad. All the reviews I read made it sound awful. It's different, but I got it figured out in a few hours. You can easily unpin apps that you don't want on the start screen by holding down ctrl and clicking on the app you don't want. You'll see an option to uninstall or unpin, along with a few other options. You can also drag apps to where you want them. Easy enough.
The battery seems to last a while and it runs very quietly, which I like. The laptop is easy to set up, great for the price (especially the refurbished price), and fun. I haven't played any games on it yet, or watched any movies, but with the amount of RAM and the four-way processor, I think games will work great. Overall I am happy with this laptop and I think it'll last me at least 4 years like my old HP did. HP hasn't ever disappointed me.

This computer is very nice besides that the internet loses it's connection all the time. I haven't taken it in yet so not sure why this is happening.

Awesome configuration within affordable price... boots within 15-20 seconds, great features.
Battery is though short, last around 3 hours for a full recharge.. What I like the most is the finger print reader, finally I don't have to remember passwords of n different accounts each time I have to login.
Not a gamer, but in general the performance is great and have not yet come across any problems with the laptop.

I purchased this a week ago, so far nothing seems wrong.
the only thing i have seen people don't like about this computer is windows 8 which is the "operating system" not the computer its self. if you really care than install a different operating system. And honestly i don't understand why people don't like windows 8. I may be a big change from any other windows os but it does not take that long to figure it out.
And with me being a gamer, and video editor this computer ran all my programs and games perfectly. And for this price it makes it 20x better. i saved a lot of money and for a great computer! So if your looking for a fast cheap computer then this is the one! Especially if you are just looking for basic use then you will have nothing to worry about performance wise. and if your looking to run programs from Adobe Creative Suite then you will be happy with this computer.

Good laptop, bad software and keyboard

I got this laptop and even paid to have it overnighted. When I got it, straight out of the box, a lot of the features didn't work. I had to go onto HP's website and download a bunch of software that should have been loaded by the Geek Squad, but wasn't. After a few hours of getting all the updates, I found out the "w" key stuck anytime it was pressed. I saw this was "Geek Squad Certified," which I thought meant it had been tested and would run as new--turns out I was wrong. When I tried to get it repaired, found out my only option was to wait for a week for a new one to replace it, which I would have to reload all those software patches again, so I returned it and will seek something else.
