I bought this laptop for my son and when he showed me the resolution of the screen, I was envious! It's incredible in its detail and color brilliance. My son had built his desktop computer for gaming and added memory and a new graphics card, and all kinds of techno-geek things that I don't understand, and when he started using this laptop, he couldn't believe that it was even better than his desktop! It has all of the memory, a great processor, and graphics card, and he absolutely loves it. He will be replacing his desktop with this now!

To start off I love the screen for videos and stuff it has a beautiful brightness and colors.
Runs the AAA games well on high settings at 1080p great... 100fps+
1440p or 4k its just laggy not worth playing in these settings.
certain games will overheat the cpu to about 90C and maybe a little higher to me thats a negative maybe 70-78C at highest and the fans on max are super loud...
the laptop performs fast and consistent...
the lights on the keyboard are also nice..
the battery lasts about 4hrs not gaming..
gaming around 90minutes so you gotta keep it plugged it..
I did not do any video editing or live streaming.
I believe the price is okay but everything could be slightly better.
I will be returning it sadly it didnt reach my expectations and even more now that the new Rtx 3000 series is out..

I bought this laptop out of a need for something that would be capable of running Flight Simulator 2020 well. I had a lot of trouble finding a gaming laptop that did not look too "gamery" but also had a 4k screen, so I was on the fence between this option and something from ASUS. I was hesitant when I ordered this machine due to some YouTube content showing a somewhat alarming amount of flex in the display panel, but it is not that big of a deal in reality. It runs FS2020 excellent (and stays cool after hours of use) out of the box, but I did upgrade the RAM to 32GB and it runs unbelievably well with all settings on "ultra" after doing so. It is also true that it does in fact come with the 2070 Super Max graphics card.

This is a nice balanced laptop. I'm an architecture student so I use a lot of performance-heavy apps. I can use many of them at once and it doesn't freeze - however, you can hear the fan if you're using many programs at once. And yes, it does come with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SuperMax. You sometimes have to put a bit more pressure on the keyboard keys and the layout is just a bit different from average keyboard, but you get used to it. Although it isn't the best laptop on the market, I highly recommend it i would give it an honest 4.3/5.

Pros:
- Comes with a RTX 2070 Super Max-Q, unlike what is listed in the above specs.
- Really nice and bright 4K screen.
- Sleek chassis design.
- Nice keyboard feel. Full navigations keys (home, end, pg up, down) and arrow keys.
- Good touchpad sensitivity.
- Speakers are decent enough.
Cons:
- Keyboard has ghosting when typing really fast. Most noticeably for combinations of 2x top row + 1x bottom row, in the same column of keys. "ion" becomes "io", "oin" -> "oi", "uin" -> "ui", "yub" -> "yu", etc.
- Comes with the usual Windows bloatware, which is auto-updated by the Microsoft store.
- Screen has a small amount of flex when closed, above the keyboard. (See other reviews on Youtube.)
- Somewhat floppy/loose screen hinge.
- Front edge of laptop, where you put your wrists, is a little sharp.

This thing runs a i7 chip and a rtx 2070 super max Q cool and quiet with a slim profile while rocking a 4k 60hz 400+nitz screen and hdr400 with vivid 10bit color..
So many pros, price wise it smashes everything anywhere near it for a 4k hdr400 2070super.. also no throttle fest like razer does, you get amazing scores.
Con..
Welp, a 120hz screen would have been enough fir me to pay even more for.. i know a 2070 super max Q notebook GPU isn't gaming 4k @ 120 or even close but to have the ability to render in 1440p or 1080p @ higher fps would have been super in competitive games..

I've been using this laptop for right at a month and so far, so good. I upgraded from a company provided z book because I needed a stronger gpu and this did the trick. I edit video everyday and haven't had any issues yet. My previous laptop would freeze fairly regularly and cause me to have to restart, not this one. Render times are so much faster and I'm able to do much more with my videos. I was worried that I would have to spend over $2k to get what i needed but I've been pleasantly surprised. Can't recommend the Omen 15 enough. The 4k screen is beautiful too :)

A Review for the Gaming Enthusiast

I'll stick to things that I think are probably the most asked questions (or at least they are for me) when you're an experienced enthusiast looking for a new gaming laptop.
---
COOLING:
My first thing is always "Does this have a history of overheating?". I nearly went with a Dell model and boy am I glad I didn't. I'd heard horror stories that they'd recently patched with a BIOS update, but I still didn't trust it. For the Omen, I leaned not just on history, but on design. The base of the laptop is raised with about a 3/4ths centimeter grill so the fans always have room to exhaust. They adjust incredibly well to the heat of the GPU. I won't lie, they get loud. But they run hard and they run fast, so I think it's a good tradeoff. I'd rather have a louder laptop that won't melt.
I pushed the fans up high and really stressed the GPU/CPU for a while. With the fans at max and the laptop on a solid surface, the average temp was still sitting around 72C. Not bad, HP, not bad at all.
---
HARDWARE:
I've seen a few descriptions about on this model in particular that list this PC as not having the 2070, but actually the 2070 Super. I can confirm, THIS DOES HAVE THE 2070 SUPER, so let your wallet rejoice just a little bit more at the value. The screen- where do I even begin? The color is downright gorgeous and the picture is clear as crystal. I often v-sync my games to 60fps (which this processor can handle without breaking a sweat), so the refresh rate is never even remotely an issue. I also do plenty of artwork on a high-end graphics tablet and the laptop gives me so much clarity when painting that I can now draw on-the-go without losing quality of work equipment.
---
SOFTWARE:
I'm the person that normally uninstalls whatever stock software something has on it to replace it later with the software I prefer. Not so with the Omen. I'm... kind of shocked how great it is? The game launching software in particular is so all-in-one that I've moved most of my steam favorites to launch from there instead. I can see all my laptop's specs, temps, games, rgb settings, everything... but all on one software. And it's a clean, UI-sleek software. Why hasn't anyone else done this successfully?
I can't believe I'm saying it, but I'll even overlook the laptop coming with MacAfee installed (didn't think this would still be a thing in 2021, yikes).
---
BUILD:
I'm the type that wants my laptop to be very minimalist but not look cheap. Unfortunately I think that's becoming an increasingly difficult thing to find in terms of aesthetic. It's either a choice of one or the other: either it looks cheap/minimalistic, or looks expensive/gaudy. Enter the Omen 15, thank youuuu! Just enough RGB to be neat without either blinding me or just being ridiculous. I've had some issues with a couple of the keys not pressing enough (though I do enjoy the feel) but I'm wondering if that's just user error since I'm used to really sensitive mechanical switches. The black is a really neat almost 'pearl' matte finish and the materials definitely don't feel flimsy and cheap - not even on the screen hinges.
The few things I dislike, which are still not near enough to deter me from recommending the product, are all very nitpicky. The corners (mainly those on the bottom edge on either side of the trackpad) are sharp. So if you're the type to lean back in a couch sometimes, that WASD gets a bit pointy on the inside of your wrist. The texture and color, while gorgeous, make a fingerprint magnet. If you're naturally a dry-skinned person, you'll be fine. The AC power box is-... hooooboy. A foot warmer? There's no other way to put it, it's likely to be the biggest one you've seen.
Still, aesthetically, it's gorgeous and my personal favorite of the couple-dozen I did research on before eventually ending up with this.

I wanted to hold out for an rtx3070 based laptop with a Ryzen processor from all the benefits of cooling and mix of power and performance. When it became apparent that everyone was releasing variances in voltage so the rtx3000 card would perform variably depending on which laptop you would be using, I decided to look for something more straight forward.
Enter the Omen 4k with the 2070 super. I must admit this screen is amazing and take you by surprise when you first see it. Best I've ever had so far. The colors are deep and vibrant. I enjoy playing my games on this laptop even if I'm not getting the best version of a gpu and cpu out in the wild. After updating the software from HP, you can even undervolt the CPU to make the GPU take the brunt in games 1440p and higher. I think overall at $1449 this machine is worth every $ spent.
Sound and heat haven't been an issue. I use headphones mostly, but even without, It's acceptable levels during gaming.

I purchased this laptop when it was on sale at excellent Bestbuy price. Amazing deal for RTX 2070 Super Max-Q with 10th gen i7.
Laptop looks very stylish and there are many positive reivew on internet regarding its thermal management. One internet review mentioned about "sharp" edges, and, yes, I've noticed laptop coners/edge feel bit sharp, but this is not a deal breaker for me. I don't rest my hand one the edge all the time....
Native 4K display is very bright and crisp, but it's not 120Hz as other Omen model with 1080p screen.
1TB SSD is by Samsung (lookig up model number, it is Samsug 1TB 970Pro MVME m.2!!!!) This SSD alone will cost you about $320 purchased separately. Plenty space for installing a few games and Occulus system. It has 2nd expension nvme slot, so you can add another SSD. I was getting about 3061Mb/s read speed and 2040Mb/s on write speed on Crystal disk bench marks!!
16GB memeories are dual channel DDR4-3200 Samsung sticks.
Sound is very loud. Comparing to my old Omen B&O sound, this laptop has much richer, crisper, and louder sound.
Thunderbolt port let me access files in my SanDisk extremen ssd really fast.
However, charging via Thunderbolt may require high watts powersupply. I used my 85W Thurderbolt charger that works with my LG Gram 17, but for this computer, it does not register the power. I don't have any charger over 100W, so I cannot verify Thunderbolt charging capability. Power brick that comes with this laptop has 200W rating.
Laptop is not heavy as my previous OMENI 17 inch (with GTX1070), but compare to my LG Gram, this is still heavy. Fan is much quietter than my previous Omen.
Runs games at 4K at hightest setting withou any frame lags or thermal throttle.
Photoshop runs fine. Luminar 4 and Insta360 apps which requires heavy duty video card that struggled on my LG Gram 17 ultrabook runs without any issue. Rendering time for 3D VR180 video in Insta360 in my LG gram took over 2 days, but on this Omen, it took about 45 minutes.
Keyboard is pleasure to use (feels like mechanical keyboard). It does not come with numerical key pad, so if your game requires numeric key pad, you'll need to use external keybaord. I have mixed feeling on the touch pad. While moving point is smooth and nice, button is so stiff, you'll often miss the click. Very hard to use, but if you are gamer, you proabaly have dedicated mouse, so no deal breaker.
Battery runs about 3hrs when playing games, but I suppose it'll last longer if you just browse internet.
The laptop crashed (blue screen) about 3x since I purchased about a month ago: not sure if this is Windows issue or laptop hardware....
In the past, I purchased refurbished HP Omen and had no issue for 5 years, so hopefully this one will last me for long time.

The 4K screen is amazing and the colors are bright. I mainly use my laptop to Stream 4K movies and play video games. I play games from my Microsoft game pass and every game has played exceptionally well like if I was playing on my Xbox. The only cons I have experienced are the short battery life and the keyboard skipping keys as mentioned on other reviews. I keep my laptop plugged in so I won't have to deal with the short battery. This laptop is powerful and the Pro's out weight the Cons in my opinion.

Display: 5/5
Coming from a 1440p TN panel, the screen is fantastic. I don't have enough experience with other 4k OLEDs to give a fair comparison, though.
Build: 4/5
The lid is plastic and flexes a bit, it tends to peel back from the screen if you aren't careful while opening it. The base is metal and very solid.
Keyboard: 2/5
I do prefer my custom mechanical keyboard and I use it when at home, but I'm usually fine with chiclet keys. These keys don't feel bad or great, they're just okay. The stock RGB profiles are pretty basic, I'd rather set a solid color (personal preference). They aren't too bright or dim. The key rollover is VERY unreliable. At first, I thought my typing was just bad from being used to my mechanical keyboard, but there is definitely a rollover issue. Searching it online found other users with the same problems, but I think not all have it.
Trackpad: 3/5
Could be better, I rarely use it because I hate trackpads. Clicking on it feels awkward, but there doesn't seem to be any responsiveness issues.
Heat/noise: 3/5
It has some beefy components, so if you were expecting a quiet and cool experience, you're in the wrong category. For a premium gaming laptop, it doesn't get hot to a worrisome level. The noise is definitely loud, but I've heard much louder basic home desktop computers.
Other notes of interest: I'm not sure if this is model specific or not, but the laptop will wake from sleep WHILE CLOSED. This is a MAJOR issue!! I once drove home with it in my bag and didn't realize my wireless mouse had woke it! When I got home, it was ludicrously hot!! I'm amazed it didn't damage the screen or one of the internals! Also, the stock SSD seems to run slow with tasks like Windows indexing. Sometimes indexing my music folder with all their tags takes minutes to reload.

I did a lot of shopping around to find the right laptop. I am a photographer and needed a beautiful screen, fast processor, and a lot of memory. This has all of that. Other people have gone into all the technical details of this thing. This is an excellent beautiful laptop at a great price for daily use and editing media (and I assume playing video games). I like it overall for its fast processor, ability to run relatively cool compared with other laptops, and that it has an Gigabit Ethernet port What I would rather have is (1) a separate NUMERIC keypad on the right, (2) a steel background to the black keys for contrast and thus easier to see, and (3) 2-in-1 format with touch screen functionality. Best Buy did live up to its name of being the BEST BUY!

Beautiful design. The picture online doesn't do it justice, it's sleek and professional but the backlit keys and logo give it a really cool overall finish so it still feels like a gaming laptop. The 4k display is breathtaking too. Overall it just feels good and solid while still being slim enough to travel with easily.
Warning though, this has without a doubt the WORST keyboard. It's like constant keyboard ghosting, for lack of a better word. If you type any key on it's own, they work, but if you press 'n' and 'k' one after the other, one or both letters just won't register as pressed lot of the time. This also occurs with (i , n), (o , m), ( ; , .) , and a surprisingly large amount of others. I constantly have to check for typos in my zoom chat or documents now where letters have just been omitted, or intentionally pause between typing the above problem pairs. I tried all of the recommended HP 'fixes' and nothing worked, and thinking it was just my laptop that was having issues, finally exchanged it at Best Buy for a replacement. Unfortunately, the replacement has the exact same issue on the exact same key combinations. I've seen similar complaints of this on the HP website and on Best Buy, so while I hope it's a fluke, be warned.
The keyboard being so non-functional is kind of ridiculous, so I really can't go above two stars on this. I can't quite bring myself to give it one though because I have enjoyed it and if you're really just interested in gaming on it then it's been pretty dang awesome.

The specs and prices for performance (when on sale) on this unit are fantastic if you need a 4k screen with a discrete graphics card. But I lost the lottery on mine and received one with a malfunctioning keyboard.
It's also worth noting, the hardware varies on these laptops across the same exact model. Some come with 2070 *Super* Max-q video cards while others only 2070 Max-q.

I do not like HP from my previous experience but I got it at a discount, so i was gonna try it out, turned out it's worth every penny.
Thought it might be a thicker laptop but it wasn't so bad consider it is a beefed up machine, plus it is lightweight. It is even faster than my 1 yr old desktop.
I was hoping it carries the 2070 Super max-q but i got the regular 2070 max-q instead, o well. I could not find a better price rig at the time with similar specs so I didn't mine it.
4k OLED is night and day compared to my other HP laptop, and the rgb keyboard is a nice welcome, it reminds me of my desktop setup.
Overall, i think it can replace my desktop as the daily driver. Time will tell.
