Good Lappy, but has issues
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. All in all a good laptop, issues range from wireless mouse very laggy at times and when making a new folder, comp will freeze up for about 30 seconds. These issues should not happen right out the box on a $1300 laptop. Sound is decent but not as good as my last HP lappy.

Great laptop that doesn’t last!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The look and performance of the 17.3 Omen is good. Until the hinge breaks which it will do without fail. Then you have an rather expensive paperweight

Not good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would give it more stars if it wasn't for the price of this lousy thing. I thought this would be a great laptop as the specs looked amazing and it was on an about $150 off sale. This thing does not have a reliable battery and is pretty much just plugged in all day I may have just bought a computer tower. It has many problems including with it's built in features like the screen recording. Nothing but problems and will always glitch somewhere. Sorry it may seem good but no matter what it just does not run good at all. I wish I could return it. The keyboard also is terrible where the arrow keys are, completely UNUSABLE it just is terribly positioned.

Best laptop owned with few drawbacks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My sony vaio 17.3" died after 7 years so I got this HP OMEN. The box seemed beat up so not sure if it was a customer return or not. The laptop is impressive looking. All black and sexy. The pic shows grooves but the wristpad surface is silky smooth. BestBuy sells a similar laptop but I paid a little more to get the 256GB SSD. oh boy! am I glad I did! The bootup time is under 4seconds. Same for shutdown. Saving to hard drive is lightening fast. Once you go SSD you cannot go back to regular HD. There are only two stickers on the wristpad area. i7 and Nvidia. The main reason I got this is the quad core processor. I'm not a gamer but I watch a lot of movies and I'm a film student so I do lot of editing too in addition to writing. The installation of any software is faster than any laptop I've ever owned. The sound through my headphones is so much better. I keep the volume only at 10 and it sounds so loud and sexy. The 1080p screen is amazing. So much better than my older 1600x900 screen. You can't go back to it ever again. The design of this laptop was a head scratcher. The keyboard is smaller and shallower than my Sony. They could've make the keys bigger and spread 'em out instead of combining so many functions in most keys. The headphone jack is on the left edge towards the back. It should've been facing the front. The charge brick looks huge but it's fairly light so doesn't add too much weight. The charging port is on the right edge instead of the left like every other laptop I've owned. The cable from the brick to the wall outlet needs to be longer. And this is the first laptop where the plug is traditional three prong. The num lock has no light. So its tough to tell and the only way is to use the number keypad and find out. The keyboard backlit is bright red! The on/off toggle is F5 key. Still trying to figure out how to set the timeout for the key so they come on only when I type. The gigabit Ethernet is awesome! but better still is the Intel 7265 wifi adapter that's giving me wifi speed of 337mbps on my ISP provided speed of 300mbsp. The most annoying part is the DVD-ROM keeps starting every five minutes with no disc and makes a sound. Need to figure out that one. It comes with tons of bloatware and had to use iobit uninstaller to remove all of them one by one. The installed HD says 1TB capacity but has only 917GB free. Maybe they installed all the crapware on that too. It is pretty light and quiet. I take care of my laptops and as long as you don't bang it or drop it, it'll last a long time. Haven't had a chance to use the 3.0USB or HDMI yet but will update this review after I've tested all the other features. Overall: Highly recommend this laptop. The quad core alone is worth paying $999 for this one.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this laptop for a little over a year and it has been turned into geek squad 3 times now for random shut downs and no power from the cord or the battery.

Nice laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Screen is nice for a 1920. Colors are good. It is a matte finish but does not seem to dull colors too much. Light up keyboard is cool, once you find the right switch to turn it on. Very speedy feeling. SSD makes booting and program launching fast. Decent amount of RAM. Only reason for 4 vs 5 stars is the housing is a little plasticky feeling. Not cheap but not high end either. Large 17in screen makes it a big boy to haul around, but it is thinner than I expected. Not much bloat ware at all. Overall happy since I caught it on sale. Nice laptop.

Extremely impressive machine for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have only tried a handful of games as of now but I am extremely satisfied with what I have played. The Omen runs very well with no latency on high performance settings. Its a heavy machine as it is meant to be a desktop replacement. The specs are awesome. A 256 GB solid state drive means my OS opens very quickly. For downloads there is no lag when saving to a temporary folder on the C drive. My wife uses it for productivity and it runs Office, Citrix and VPN apps extremely well. Its a good family PC and even though it looks like a bit of an investment, you are getting a laptop that the whole family can use with no need to upgrade anytime soon. For under $1000 this a great deal. You can find other laptops with comparable specs but this one was the top tier in its price range.

Very impressive for the price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My work gave me a quad-core i7 Xeon laptop with all the bells and whistles, so I was nervous about buying a gaming rig for personal use, since I've been spoiled. This laptop flies! In personal tests, this computer almost matches my work computer! It's fast, upgradeable, has good graphics and great speed. Plus, it has an optical drive which my work one does not. I really do recommend this if you're looking for a good, low priced gaming laptop.
