I’ve always been intrigued by all-in-one machines. One of the first machines I purchased on my own was an all-in-one and it was great. It was at the beginning of that craze so even though they tried to bill it as a simple way to have a desktop, I still ended up having a lot of separate components and peripherals. Today, the story is quite a bit different. This OmniStudio is slim, and other than a power cable, it doesn’t require much. It has built in WiFi 6, which is more than powerful enough for most people’s needs and even though it comes with a wired keyboard and mouse, you can swap those out for wireless options if you want. The computer also has built-in Bluetooth 5.4 and a generous USB hub on the back of the screen. Given it’s form factor, I think it has the capability to be very versatile for many different uses. It can be good for students, general home use (email, web browsing, etc.) and in some cases, it can handle general productivity tasks. The thing to know with this unit is that it is not a designed for photo editing, video editing, or gaming. I did run some benchmark tests on it that I thought would help paint a full picture of what it is useful for. Geekbench 6: This test measures overall performance of a system. It runs a series of workloads that simulate different tasks like web browsing, document processing, photo manipulation, and other everyday computing tasks. The test results I got were Single-Core 1,182 and Multi-Core 3,076. These numbers are in line with what you would expect from the processor included on the OmniStudio. The scores also indicate that the computer is good for email, Microsoft Office, web browsing, streaming videos, video calls, and basic school work tasks. The scores also confirm that it’s not ideal for photo editing, video editing, large spreadsheets, or running multiple demanding applications simultaneously. CrystalDiskMark: This test measures a system’s storage performance. The sequential read speeds were 1,089 MB/s while the write speeds were around 746 MB/s. The random read speed was around 190 MB/s and the random write speed was approximately 22-32 MB/s. This is decent for a budget all-in-one machine like the OmniStudio. The read speeds are much faster than traditional hard drives and should allow Windows and applications to open reasonably quickly. The weaker random write performance is typical of lower-cost storage solutions and may become noticeable when installing large applications, performing updates, or moving lots of small files. Some limitations a user might encounter are large file transfers, heavy application workloads, or maintaining lots of locally stored files. Cinebench: This test actually locked up. It ran most of the test and then when it came to ‘finishing the render’, the test froze. It didn’t lock up the computer, but I did have to force quit Cinebench. Because Cinebench measures CPU performance by rendering a complex 3D scene, it is designed to push processors under a heavy workload. Therefore, a lockup would suggest that this system is definitely not designed for sustained heavy CPU workloads. After running the benchmark tests, I also made note of some real-world system tasks. Startup: I took approximately 22 seconds for the system to full boot up from being shut down. While this timing isn’t as fast as higher-end PCs, it’s an acceptable startup time for a basic system like the OmniStudio. Initial Background Processes: After getting it set up for the first time, I checked to see how many processes were running in task manager. There were 208 tasks running. This is important to note because even though this isn’t unusual, with this system only having 8GB of RAM, there isn’t much room for multitasking of applications. Everyday Performance Test: To see how much memory and CPU usage the system uses with typical tasks, I opened a web browser and then opened several tabs. One of the windows in the browser was playing YouTube video at 1080P playback. The CPU usage was between 11-18%, but the memory use was 6.6GB or 86%. This means that while the processor can handle multitasking well, the memory usage is the bigger limitation. Normally, this would be the point where adding more RAM could improve the experience, but the memory in this configuration is not upgradeable. Storage Capacity: This is another area of concern. It comes with 128GB of storage, but after Windows, HP applications (there are 11), and system files, less than half of that storage remains available. Typically, this would still be fine for document storage, but not photos or videos. You could add an external storage device or rely on cloud services for additional storage. Webcam: The computer comes with a built-in 1080P webcam with a shutter that you can close with a switch for privacy. It seems functional enough, but the picture quality using the included Camera app seemed grainy even though the room I was using wasn’t dim. WiFi: I did a speed test and found that it the computer was getting excellent speeds. We have a 1GB fiber connection to our house and a WiFi 7 wireless router. The OmniStudio was getting 500+ MB/s download and 430+ MB/s upload, which is more than enough for streaming 4K video, cloud storage, online classes, and general browsing. WiFi is not a limitation on this system. Keyboard and Mouse: I mentioned this briefly, but the system does come with a keyboard and mouse. They aren’t much to write home about, but they seemed to work well with the computer. I would probably upgrade to wireless peripherals, but if you don’t have that option, they should work fine for standard tasks. Screen: The 1080p screen looks great. I didn’t have any issue with the color, brightness, or text clarity. It’s very easy to read on and work with. Overall, this isn’t a bad system, but it could do with some cleanup/optimization to run smoother and to make the most of it. It is solid for basic work though. And at the price it’s being offered, I think it can work well for the right user.

This should be considered the bottom of the barrel, when it comes to selecting a personal computer. That's not to say that this a bad PC. It's just what you should be looking for, when you are getting someone their first computer setup. This HP "OmniStudio" All-In-One is perfect for a student. Any student. I initially gave this pc a lower score, but after careful consideration, and thinking of who this is made for, I came to the conclusion that this is fully capable, home computing system, that basically comes out of the box, ready to use used. Connect the stand and plug in the keyboard and mouse. Give it some power and blam. There ya go. If you're thinking of possibly gaming on this pc [which, many would consider doing.]. Stop that. Yes, you can connect your capcha' card to the HDMI port and stream off of your gaming console. With the full HD screen, you will get some crisp visuals, while you game. But this isn't a stand-alone gaming rig. The N150 processor will be enough to carry your personal workload. as far as school and homework. Plus, taking care of your family or even business finances. The simple drawbacks or minor, but noticeable. For one, the keyboard & mouse are wired. While this does jeep you connected and helps with latency, it is still unattractive. And it's not like there aren't older models that have the wireless feature. And the fact that this should be considered a community computer, as it's been years since I've come across a Windows PC, with an internal camera and it doesn't have Windows Hello capabilities. What's that all about? But with that being said, coupled with the huge update needed upon the initial setup process, it's still a very capable and affordable computer. Also, I'm glad the privacy shield is available on the camera.

This is an interesting computer that really is developed for a niche market. First, the positives. The 23.8" monitor looks great. The brightness of 250 nits is somewhat low and the 1920x1080 resolution is nothing special, but for someone browsing the internet and checking emails, the screen is more than adequate. Another nice feature is that, even though this is an all-in-one unit, there is an HDMI out, so it would appear the ability to add a second screen is not outside the realm of possibility. The camera has a physical switch that allows the user to physically block the camera, which is nice to help ensure privacy (especially if you do not trust "software" switches). The aesthetic of the all-in-one unit is nice and minimalistic. The stand is nice, but limited in that the monitor can only pitch (tilt) on one axis. It does not slide up/down, it does not rotate left/right, and it will not alternate between landscape/portrait. On the flip side, 128 GB of storage is paltry and, arguably, unacceptable nowadays. The OS itself takes up 50'ish GB, meaning almost half of that 128 GB is already allocated before you take it out of the box. If you want to sync a typical photo library between your phone and this unit, good luck. Along those lines, plan on using this as a streaming platform if you are doing anything with music or video. (Downloading a movie or a lot of songs will eat into that 128 GB pretty fast.) If this unit had at least 256 GB, or maybe even 512 GB, I would be more accepting. As it is now, though, this desktop computer has less memory than my smartphone. Speaking of memory, 8 GB of RAM is also low. 16 GB would have been better. Then again, given the limitations of this computer, I would hope the person's use case does not include anything too stressful because the chip is not really designed for heavy lifting, so to speak. Ultimately, I am wiling to forgive and overlook the 8 GB of RAM, but the 128 GB of storage is a deal breaker and the reason why I gave an "average" 3 stars to this unit. Both the keyboard and mouse are physically wired. The good news is that you never have to worry about the batteries in either dying. The bad news is that you have a couple extra cords that really impact the overall aesthetic of the computer's all-in-one vibe. The mouse itself also lacks heft. It feels light, cheap, and plastic. Typing on the keyboard is not too bad and there are even extra function keys built in, which could prove handy. Let's face it, though, you can always buy a separate wireless mouse and/or keyboard if you want. The unit has 4 USB Type-A ports, along with one USB-C and an ethernet port. From a connectivity standpoint, that's not bad, although USB-C is becoming more of a standard and it would have been nice to have one or two more USB-C ports. (The keyboard and mouse are USB-A, so two of those ports are used out of the box as soon as you plug them in.) Ultimately, this is designed to be a "budget" all-in-one PC. If it fits your price range and your usage will be predominantly web browsing, email, and "simple" office work (like word processing), the computer should work well. If you want to store a lot of media, however, you will need an external drive to do so.
