WOW!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My last laptop was an HP, but that was in 2008 so its been some time since I have used their products. Boy what a difference time makes! This laptop like others have said is incredibly thin and absolutely beautiful! It is very well built and feels very premium, HP should feel very proud of this thing, if this is the direction the company is going then their future looks very bright. Since its been years since I have used Windows ( I've messed around with Windows 8 a little ) Windows 10 is very impressive so far. I have an Xbox One so I am use to and actually really like the tile design of Windows 10. It is very fast to start up and shutdown and things in general are very fast on this thing. I'm sure having 8GB of RAM and CORE i7 is a big factor in that Positives-Incredibly thin, premium feel and construction, very fast and speedy, portability,USB C/thunderbolt 3, 256 GB of storage, Bang & Olufsen, glass track pad Negatives- Battery life, I don't see it lasting the 9 hours HP quotes but its not terrible, I can see a strong 7 maybe more depending on what you do and how you configure the settings. Yes, its a finger print magnet but in the age of smart phones and tablets that to me is not that big of a deal. Track pad could be bigger. Bottom line- this thing will turn heads when you pull it out, but its not just a pretty face this thing has the specs that will satisfy all but the most power hunger users! Absolutely love this thing!

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've always considered myself to be a "function-over-form" kind of guy but the new HP Spectre 13 kind of swept me off my feet. The experience starts from the moment you open the packaging. The notebook is packed in a black box with copper logo and lettering and everything inside is arranged to protect your new purchase. In addition to the wafer thin (.41 inches!) notebook the box includes a snug leather portfolio style slip cover, power supply and a USB-C to USB-A/B dongle. The notebook is black with subtle copper contrasts and features a unique piston hinge design that allows the unit to be perfectly flat - there is virtually no change in thickness from the front to the back of the machine. Upon initial power up the notebook goes through the familiar Windows 10 startup process. The 13.3" HD screen is bright and very crisp. Under the hood of this impossibly thin unit is an Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD drive. The only external ports are a trio of USB-C connections and a combined headphone/microphone jack. The charger actually plugs into one of the USB-C ports. The first thing you notice is that the unique hinge design allows limited travel - this is not a convertible design that allows you to lay the screen back flat or fold it over. Also, the screen is not touch sensitive. I actually like that but it seems that touchscreens are the expected norm with the Windows 10 OS. Finally, be aware that the unit contains only one camera and it faces the user. The USB-C ports are the new "one-port-to-rule-them-all" technology but there are a few things you need to know. Currently there are only a small number of peripherals that support USB-C natively so you will need dongles or an external port replicator to support legacy USB devices, hardwired Ethernet or any external video (HDMI for instance). On a positive note, all of the ports can supply power to attached devices. So far I have loaded a handful of my favorite applications and the performance of the notebook is very good. Battery life seems reasonable and I have been able to get several hours of usage per charge. One thing I noticed, and the documentation calls this out, is that the unit can get warm if you hold it on your lap while using it. That is only reasonable with an i7 processor. In summary - if you are in the market for a premium notebook you owe it to yourself to take a look at this piece of art. The combination of razor thin design and performance won't leave you disappointed!

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Came with requirement to download a new upgrade from Hewlett Packard. Download failed on three occasions. So I called HP support. Had to wait on phone for ages and when I finally got help spent most of Saturday afternoon trying to download the upgrade with help and was still unable to do so. Was told to await notification from HP as to when the download would be available. Have had the computer for three weeks without any follow up from HP. Also there were several other problems that were corrected with support but required more calls and time.

Lives up to the hype in an extreme small size.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am reviewing the HP Spectre 13.3" Laptop. This is a great little laptop with lots of power and convenience. I was surprised with the performance and responsiveness that this laptop provided in such a small form factor. It is a full featured laptop in a very thin bezel. This laptop included the USB C adapter to USB A which I thought was a good compromise since it only has 3 USB C ports and an audio port. I was also pleased that the included power cord could be plugged into any of those ports to power the laptop. It does not have a lot of external features but the ones it has are the bleeding edge in performance with two of the three being thunderbolt ports. It was nice because it made me trust that this laptop would be capable of lasting a long time and be a great balance between portable power house and impressive conversation piece. The information posted says this has an SSD hard drive but it appears to be an integrated SSD which is quite a bit faster than traditional SSD drives. The built in keyboard was very responsive and did not feel cheap like a lot of smaller or niche laptops. I did think that it would have been nice to get it with a 4k screen but I understand that there has to be some balance between the faster hard drive, form factor, the overall attention to detail. I think that anyone who is looking for a very small or thin laptop with Windows on it should not go any further. The sound and video performance were very good for the size but not in the same game as more full size systems. I think that the absence of an optical drive will be frustrating to some users but for the person who is going all out for this device will know where to get a drive when needed. I tend to be more of a full feature or power user and would have liked to be able to get it in 16GB of memory but honestly this thing gets it done. I think the included 8GB of memory is plenty for almost any normal task.

Looks great, but needs work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hp Spectre 13 is a great looking laptop. It is extremely light and portable and has a phenomenal keyboard. The computer looks great and attracts a lot of attention. The screen is nice to look at and the 3 usb c ports as well as the included sleeve is also very nice. However, though the computer has a great keyboard, the track pad is only average. it is usable however often when you give a full click. the cursor randomly jumps around. The finish of the computer is a finger print magnet and requires a damp cloth to clean. The screen whilst nice to look at, does not incline very far and is very vulnerable to light as it is very glossy. Finally, the battery life is only okay getting around 5-6 hours with low brightness and on power saving modes doing light tasks. On a side note, when the computer was working hard, the fan created a very high pitched whine, causing me to return both units I tried. A good looking laptop, but not one I would recommend.

I love it... but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop is extremely light, thin and sturdy... The only few gripes I have is the following: 1. The fan is somewhat always on, I bought the i7 version and yes, I know it's a monster processor, but geez... kind of consumes the battery a bit 2. Glare on the screen, it's so glossy that it's hard to see, but the pictures and texts look crisp and clear! 3. The color, fingerprint magnet, but I guess I will have to stop being so obsessive in wiping it down... When I got the computer, right out of the box it had the error screen, I was going to return it but I just did the factory reinstall of HP software myself, third box down from the left menu to be exact, took 2 extra hours to get it up and running... now it's awesome.. Previously, I bought the 12 inch laptop from the company that's named after a fruit... loved it but it was sluggish... can't really compare CoreM to i7... I bought the 12 inch laptop at $300 discount, but I decided to just coughup the $$$ because this computer would hold over longer than the 12...

Very Good Laptop Short Of Being Great
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really love this laptop, the speed in which the computer boots up and let me get back into whatever i was doing before i turned off the computer is great. The design of the laptop if beautiful the fact that it is so light a thin, makes it so easy for me to take with me everywhere I go. There a couple of issues i do have with the laptop though. the first is the screen while gorgeous is a bit too glossy if you use this anywhere a bit bright you will have a decent amount of glare on the screen. I have had some issues with some sticky keys on the keyboard, and also for someone that is unaware the laptop has usb-c connection so you have to use an adapter to connect most of your devices. the laptop does come with one adapter out of the box but I had to switch my different accessories when I was not using them. Even with these issue i would recommend this laptop.

Great laptop that looks cool as well
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used this laptop as my daily driver for a few days now and pretty much love this laptop. Though it has a few faults it comes with the territory of a small, thin light laptop. The screen while fantastic it is a glossy screen so some people might have issues using this outside. This laptop has an intel i77-6500U which is a dual core cpu with a base clock of 2.5GHZ and a boost to 3.1GHZ. 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. This laptop for most people tasks will be well worth the $1,300 it costs to buy this device if you want a powerful laptop that is also very slim and stylish. The color scheme some men might hate ( and women as well) but I like the color scheme. The trackpad is easily one of the best I have used on a non windows device but I find a bit to small but only a minor gripe on an otherwise fantastic keyboard. All in all the only issues I have with this laptop The somewhat poor battery life and that they have a slightly small trackpad. Depending on your needs this is a great laptop.

A traveler's dream
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using laptops for decades, since they were more "portable" than anything you'd actually want on your lap. I hadn't seen one of these new Spectres "in the flesh" before getting it today. I knew it was thin and light but seeing it and holding it for myself was an impressive moment of technological realization in just how far portable computing has come. I had grown kind of accustomed to the size and state of laptops, but this Spectre earned my respect and updated my perception considerably. One unique feature that I haven’t personally seen mentioned anywhere else is the ability for the Spectre to charge connected USB devices, like your phone, even when the Spectre is completely powered off. I tested this by completely powering down the Spectre and then connected my Nexus 6P phone. Sure enough, it started charging. It also charges, by default, when in sleep or hibernate mode. You can change this behavior in the BIOS but I love it because when I travel, especially with the whole family in tow, I often plug multiple devices into my laptop at night as a sort of charging hub and had to leave the laptop running all night. With the Spectre i can that all while leaving the Spectre itself off and perfectly quiet. In appearance, the Spectre is like wearing a gold watch or cufflinks. It's classy and eye-catching without being overstated or gaudy. The display resolution isn't cutting-edge but it's adequate and was a good choice, I think, for accommodating standard Full-HD images and video without the CPU and battery draining overhead of a higher-resolution display. The contrast is beautiful and effective -- the blacks are deep and the colors steer full, rich, and true. Sound is acceptable. While the little speakers on the Spectre understandably lack bass depth they, to my ears, excel at spatial separation. Listening to music often sounded like I was in a much bigger room with sounds seeming to come from further left or right than I'd intuitively attribute to the built-in speakers. No joke, there were several times i swore my wife or kids were playing the same song in the living room off to my left, and I kept looking to check, but alas it was just the Spectre speakers achieving some outstanding stereo separation. For movies it was also noticeable that spoken voices often seemed to emanate directly from the center of the screen where there is no speaker at all. Your mileage may vary but my ears were impressed with the built-in speakers ability to "create space" that exceeded the obvious physical placement of the speakers themselves. My one disappointment on the Spectre is the backlit keyboard. It has one, but the feature seems to be only manually toggled on/off with no ability to set it to auto depending on ambient light, or to timeout and go dim when not being typed on for awhile. I've enjoyed automatic backlit keys on laptops for several years and it seems counter-intuitive to have to pick out the F5 key in a dark room to turn on the very backlight that's supposed to be there to help me in exactly that situation. It helps to keep in mind that the F-keys are pretty much directly above their corresponding and larger regular numeric key so they aren’t terribly hard to find unless it’s a very dark environment, it’s just a smidge inconvenient compared to the automatic/smart backlit keys that I’ve been accustomed to on my previous laptops. It also initially struck me as odd that an hour after I had typed something, and walked away to dinner and come back, that the keyboard backlight was still on. Although it’s probably a minor drain, it seems against the idea of saving power on a laptop. It’s not enough of an issue that I’d mark it down even half of a star let alone a whole star, just something that stood out to me from my own previous experience that shaded my expectation to expect it to operate differently. All-in-all a drop-dead gorgeous i7 beast that tames considerable power in a pleasantly surprising and elegant form.

Wow
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a really nice laptop. It is lightning fast. I have a Sony Vaio Flip with an i5, 8GB RAM and a solid state drive and this laptop boots up in half the time, 10 seconds from the time I push the power button. Booting aside, everything is fast. Just browsing the internet is much faster with this laptop. It could be because it is my only wireless AC device, but I don't think AC is THAT much faster than wireless N. I think the better CPU and better hard drive make the difference. This laptop is very light and sleek. I really like the color combination. Even though it says it weighs 1 lb more than my iPad gen 3, it really feels the same weight. The screen is very crisp. My Sony has a 1080p screen, but the text on this HP is much clearer and the video on Netflix or Hulu seems better. The touchpad is very good. It responds very accurately. The scrolling gesture is much more responsive than other touchpads I have worked with. The keys on the keyboard have a good response to them. I only have 3 minor things I would change on this laptop: 1. The keyboard has a function button to turn on the backlight. I would prefer that the backlight come on when I press any key. It's minor, but it just makes it so you don't have to think about it. My wife and I often watch TV on our laptops on our porch at night, so having a backlight keyboard is crucial. 2. The fan runs often when streaming movies or TV. The fan is very high pitched and gets irritating after a while. 3. A touch screen would make this laptop perfect, though it would likely change its dimensions and weight, so I understand why HP didn't do that. Ultimately I really like this computer. In many ways it is superior to my Sony Vaio Flip. My wife was skeptical when I said I was going to get this, but now she has pretty much claimed it for herself.

Lean & Mean Machine
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first impression was a good one. After unboxing the Spectre, I placed it on my desk and my 8" tablet was next to it. Even closed, the laptop was clearly thinner than the tablet. That is how you make a great first impression. The second thing that I noticed was the weight of the machine. It is easily the lightest laptop that I have ever held. Now, how does it perform. I am still getting familiar with Windows 10 so it's a little foreign to me, but I am liking it. I think a combination of the OS and the build contribute to the quickness that this laptop brings to the table. Combining that with the vivid screen, you have yourself a beautiful and wonderfully performing laptop. My lone negative is the keyboard. I know it's thin so the option of backlit keys wasn't going to happen. I am a big fan and wish that was available in some fashion. The other thing is the design of the keys. HP clearly wanted to condense things for the size, but having to hit the function key to hit some pretty common keys is cumbersome. I am sure I will get used to it with time, but I like the standard keyboard layout better. Overall, it's a great machine that will travel well when I need it. I would recommend this for anyone looking to have great performance in a ultra-thin laptop.
