The Spectre 13 has the same great keyboard that all HP computers do. The Gorrilla Glass screen is suberb with its HD IPS, 1920 x 1080 screen. The specs call for 9-Hr., 45-Min. of battery life. It will definitely get 9 hours, but I have not run it to the end. The only USB ports are the new, faster, more-ampere USB-C (also known as USB 3.1). It comes with an adapter that connected to my hub at home. You will want to invest in another if you travel with a DVD player and external hard drive.

It is all that it advertised to be. It is lightweight and very thin. It always attracts favorable remarks from those who see it. The fit and finish is nothing short of outstanding!!! It looks classy and performs well. I would have liked to see some standard USB ports and not have to use the adapter cord to use things that have a standard sized port such as wireless mouse, etc. Nice nice laptop and I am glad I have it, D7dun

I've owned a number of HP computers over the years, strayed somewhat, but this HP Spectre has brought me back home. I'm an average user, not a gamer. I've owned this laptop for a little over a month and I find it to be the best computer I've ever operated. When I purchased the Spectre, I thought it was a touchscreen model. It's not. No matter. I very seldom used this feature on my previous Lenovo laptop. When running for any length of time the fan kicks in but doesn't run continuously. The rear of the back metal bar can get a little warm but all in all HP has done a tremendous job in introducing a state of the art laptop that looks, feels slicker and will compete with any computer of it's caliber in the marketplace.

The design is gorgeous, but the keyboard layout will take some getting used to. My only complaints would be that the RAM can't be upgraded beyond 8GB and the lack of a touchscreen. The lack of a touchscreen was the trade-off for the Sprectre's breathtaking form factor. I highly recommend this laptop for non-power users.

    Great PC alternative to Mac

First of all, this laptop is obviously really thin but it does not feel cheap. The feel is very sturdy and very well built. Visually it is an absolute stunner and very different from what's out there on the market. The trackpad is responsive and gestures are similar to the Mac although I wish the pad was a bit larger. Typing on the keyboard is smooth and the backlight on the keys is a great feature. Laptop also syncs with a lot of things from my iPhone which is great. I've always liked Apple products but could never get used to using a Mac computer. So it is really nice that there is a PC alternative that works with your iPhone while also having the same premium look and feel of a Mac. Honestly I feel it is also a better value than a Mac. First you can get an icore 7 with better performance for far less than what it would cost on the Mac. As far as the premium look and feel it is on par with Mac. The battery life isn't great but also isn't horrible. All in all HP made a top notch product to keep the laptop market more competitive.

I looked at the HP Spectre 13 a number of times before I actually purchased one. When I saw it on sale one day, I just couldn't resist! Of course, it looks fantastic, and it is very slim and lightweight. That much is obvious. It is also very fast, and very powerful. There really isn't anything that I'm not satisfied with -- it is the kind of high-end computer that I want and need. In response to some other comments you might read here, let me add my perspective: Fan noise? This is the quietest notebook computer (with a fan) that I've ever owned, and I've owned a number of them. If you want no fan noise at all, there are now some Core M computers with no fans at all, but you'll pay a price in processor power. With this computer, I find that the fan doesn't come on all that often at all -- obviously, it depends upon what you do, but whatever it is that I tend to do, it doesn't cause the computer to heat up all that much, so the fan doesn't come on very often. And when it does, I sure don't find it very noisy at all -- again, I have had far, far worse. Oh, and there is a setting in the HP controls that will let you choose a "cooler" setup, so that you'll hear the fan come on even less of the time. I presume that will affect processor power a bit, but it's definitely an option you can choose. Keyboard? I love it. I think the feel is absolutely perfect, and I definitely won't have a notebook without an illuminated keyboard. Trackpad? I'm sorry, but I just detest trackpads. I just use a Bluetooth mouse, and I'm happy. Screen? I think the screen is wonderful -- it's a very high-quality IPS screen. I have learned the hard way that I don't WANT a higher-resolution screen -- with a higher resolution, you'll have to go into the screen controls and increase the size of the on-screen elements, and there's always a chance that you'll run some programs that have on-screen elements that won't increase in size proportionally. "Full HD" is just perfect for this screen size. Battery life? Again, I'm just not doing the kind of thing with this notebook that really taxes the battery life. It has certainly been more than sufficient for me. USB ports? I definitely like the new USB-C ports, and I look forward to the day when they are the standard for everything. With "only" three, that's still better than other computers that only have two, or some Mac notebooks with only one. One thing that I have really noticed is that this notebook just seems to have "faster throughput" than any other computer I have ever owned. Transfers from USB drives are just astonishingly faster than they have been on any other computer I've owned. I also do some file transfers via WiFi, and again, this computer is transferring files at ten time the speed of other notebooks I own, even when attached to the very same router. So, it looks great, it's very light and thin, and it's very fast and powerful. It is a very competent notebook computer, and it has performed flawlessly for me.

Looks: I went to buy a laptop with budget of $800 but this laptop gained my attention. I could not look at other computers the same way. I ended up spending double the amount but I am happy with my purchase. The new logo looks very good. Packaging: The packaging it excellent, came with an amazing leather sleeve. Charger: The charger is beautiful and compliments the computer USB-C: Comes with USB - Type C cable. If you use many USB ports consider buying a USB HUB for Type-C. Battery: The battery is amazing and has a long life. Storage: 256 SSD (just like a flash drive), which means no hard drive disk (HDD), which means no more hard drive failures. In-built Camera and Mic: The inbuilt microphone and HD web camera are excellent. Display: HD display is great, as good as my MacBook Pro Speed: 256 SSD, WiFi card type Wireless-N and i7 6th generation processor make it very fast. Alternative: A good alternative is HP - Spectre x360 in gold, which also looks good but as much as this one.

This laptop has been a great upgrade from my older Beats laptop. Even though it's only a dual core I7, And my old Beats laptop was a quad core i7, it performs very well. I'm able to code and run Unity on this machine with more than acceptable performance. I love the ultra slim and lightweight design. I don't dread taking this machine with me like I do with bulkier/heavier laptops. Battery life is great. Under constant use, I get an at least 6 hours, I can probably push for more time but I stop to charge to around that time for two reasons. First, I have anxieties from my old machine, and, second, I avoid having to stop while I'm in the middle of something. Overall I'm 99% pleased with this laptop. I won't count the new USB technology against it, because I was ok with this going in. But for those that care, you will need an adapter to use your existing USB accessories. The one thing that im not too big on is the wireless card seems to have less range than my old Beats laptop.

Lightweight, super slim - and FAST. I normally have at least 4-5 SaaS apps running, Photoshop, AI, Chrome, Skype, about 10 Excel files (big sets of data) going, plus 5-10 PPTs open on any given day. Still haven't slowed this thing down a bit.

This laptop is thin, light weight, powerful and super sexy. The battery life is fantastic with a sharp detailed display. This make this laptop the ultimate mobility device. I also bought a Bluetooth mouse which completes the package. With an i7 processor and 8 GB of ram it is sufficient for most power users although it is NOT expandable. Also it has 3 USB-C connectors so you may need more than the 1 adapter that it comes with. I love it but with slightly more ram or expandability it would have gotten the extra star. Still I do not regret the purchase at all.

    Ultra Thin and Copper

Upon opening the main shipping box there was a very nicely constructed leatherette sleeve inside, and black box with the word “Spectre” in copper embellished on it. Inside that box was the laptop, a USB C to USB 3 adapter, power supply, 3x5” microfiber cloth, a quick start guide and warranty information. I’m really amazed how thin and light this laptop is, it’s very minimalistic. It does not have a SD card, and has 3 USB type 3 connectors, all on the back edge, one of them is used for charging. The outside of the laptop is very dark brown color, and the LCD hinge area is a very bright polished copper. Opening the LCD, there’s a standard QWERTY keyboard, the keys are dark brown with copper accents. It’s a pretty typical layout as far as keyboards go for laptops of this size, it has a one stage back light, and isn’t too bright for using in low light situations. As far as typing on it goes, it’s actually really nice to type on, I can type on pretty much anything and not have too much of a problem, I’m sure not complaining any about this one. Powering on, the 1080 screen is nice and clean, no bleed visible in the boot screen, and the boot time is very fast, I was in the setup menu under 15 seconds. The screen is covered in Gorilla Glass according to HP, but it is not touch sensitive. That’s ok in my book because this isn’t a convertible and I’ve had more than one touchscreen laptops and the touchscreen never gets used, and it saves a lot of weight without it. Pressing lightly on the back or front doesn’t produce any distortion in the screen and the lid is very rigid. The initial setup creates a local account so if you want an online MS account you’ll have to update it in the user setting menu. It comes with McAfee Live Safe pre-installed but I have my own AV solution that I use so that was removed immediately. I also like using a separate mouse and happen to have a Bluetooth one handy, that connected without a problem. WiFi on 5ghz seems very stable, and I’m getting 350Mbps down and 400Mbps up at approx. 35’, on a recently acquired AC5400 Tri band router, “I do have a a1gb fiber connection at home”. Speed wise, this is a great laptop for business, it’s plenty fast for any “Office” type software work, email, browsing, watching videos. It’s not really a gaming laptop outside of the games in the MS store. I haven’t loaded Steam on it, and really never intended to as I have a gaming laptop with a dedicated GPU just for that. You can say it’s really good at everything except high end gaming. Running on battery power I ran a HD movie from Netflix with the screen brightness and volume maxed out. I was down to 54% after that so 4 hrs of video streaming is possible which is not bad at all considering how thin this laptop is. In the end it’s really a beautiful laptop, almost too nice looking to just be throwing around in a backpack. If you want a very thin, light laptop for travel, doing the basics and showing off, then this may be the one for you. Positives: 1. Thin and very light 2. The screen is excellent for a 1080 screen, bright, clear, no bleed, and has very high viewing angles. 3. Fast, the i7 processor is very fast, it takes quite a bit to bog it down. 4. Stays very cool under normal use, very quiet almost silent under light and mid loads. 5. No bloatware, came pretty basic, with the Office trial and a HP assistant, and McAfee, other than that it’s pretty bare. Negatives: 1. No SD card slot and will have to use a USB C card reader or a USB one with the included adapter cable. 2. They should have also included a USB C Hub, since there are no other ports besides USB C a small hub is almost necessary. 3. Glossy glass screen does show a lot of reflections. 4. Fans can be a little noisy during a full load, but I’ve heard a lot worse by far. 5. The Copper deco piece on the frame at the rear is a huge finger print magnet, any one with OCD will go nuts cleaning it.

First off this laptop is very thin and light. But more importantly it is incredibly fast. I've owned lots of laptop's and computers for work and play. This is by far the quickest I have ever owned. Everything basically takes seconds at the most. Almost instantly boots. Office, Adobe apps open in seconds. Very smooth and very very quick. A real speed demon. Only downside to me is the ports. Wish it had at least one std USB. But adapters are cheap on Amazon. Enjoy it...I do.
