I love the compactness of this laptop. Nice size screen, fast processing, and light. Total all pluses for on the go and traveling. I was shocked though that it only had wifi, no network plug-in, but I have made do. It also has a tendency to sound like it is doing a lot of work when you leave websites up. I always shut down my browsers when not in use. Whether it is doing a lot of work or not, it gets me jumpy hearing it. Not that it is loud, I am just picky...

I was skeptical about HP's claims to this being the thinnest laptop out there, but you need to go to your local Best Buy and check this out for yourself. It's incredibly thin and lightweight. It's a perfect travel laptop. The battery life is pretty incredible considering how thin it is. The only thing I don't like about it is the gold trim on the back by the hinge. That part is a fingerprint magnet. It can also get a little loud from the fan noise if you're doing intense work.

With an attractive design and lightweight portability, this laptop is a (big) tablet size package with full size laptop performance. The laptop is incredibly thin at a mere 10.4 mm and weighting at 2.45 lbs.
Build:
The exterior is a matte finish trimmed with gloss gold, which is reflected with the keyboard. This finish is nice since it doesn't leave fingerprints but the shinny gold is prone to marks. While personally I'm not a fan of the dark gray and gold, it does have a premium look to it. On the back is the headphone jack, 2 usb type C, and a power port, along with the exhaust along the bottom.
Display:
The Spectre comes with a 13 inch IPS 1080p display, and while not on par with a retina display, is clear and sharp. You really don't need a higher resolution for this size. The display setting is default to a custom setting in windows, which I find to be about right. The screen is glossy, which can be annoying. The viewing angle is great! I was surprised that this was an IPS panel.
Keyboard and trackpad:
The keyboard is a typical chicklet type key and is responsive and easy to type with. It is backlit and with the gold trimmed keys, gives a nice glowing effect. The glass trackpad is nice and smooth and functions like a button with gesture controls (which I mostly disabled). It's essentially an Apple trackpad.
Speakers:
The speakers sandwich the entire keyboard, and while HP boast that it's custom tuned by Bang & Olufsen, it performs like what you would expect from tiny speakers on a tablet. Not so good, but considering its size, is adequate for watching videos. With music, it tends to crack at higher volumes and the bass is lacking. Still, the speakers can produce good volume and the individual channels stands out.
Performance:
With an i7 and 8 gb of ram, this laptop can handle any day to day task without a hitch. Just don't expect to do any modern gaming with this. Thanks to its PCIe SSD, this thing is fast. It boots up faster than my gaming desktop. But with only 256gb of storage, you might need an external drive. I'm used to gaming laptop so to me the battery life is very good. I can get at least 5 hours of use without optimizing the brightness and performance. It takes a few hours to fully charge and you should be good to go for a while. There doesn't seem to be a way to replace the ssd or battery so I'm hoping they last. I have one major issue with the performance, and is that it can get hot, not warm, but hot. Installing windows update, this laptop got too hot to be in my lap. Doing multitasking can get quite warm as well.
Overall this laptop performs to my expectations. It's thin and light and can handle everyday tasks smoothly. There's not much HP bloatware, which I find refreshing. It comes with a usb C adapter and a slip cover, but in my case is a tad too small and tight. Even with some of its shortcomings, I can't fault it too much given how much was packed into such a small form factor.
This laptop was provided to me for my honest review.

Let me just say I really like this ultrabook, I use it for work and play and its great when plugged in, great screen, great keyboard, track pad is OK, but the battery life is very poor. I would recommend to most, but not to road warriors who need a long battery life. The other glaring issue is that the USB C implementation by HP is non standard so no other non HP USB C charger will work with it

I love this laptop. It runs quickly for me and I'm someone who keeps 100 tabs a 4 other programs open at the same time. I love how thin this laptop is, it makes me more likely to grab my laptop instead of trying to look at a tiny cell phone screen if I want to do a quick Google search. The 2 big cons for me are the lack of a CD/DVD drive and only having USB C ports. However, I can easily move past these 2 cons with some slight modifications.

When I saw this computer for the first time I thought that is a beautiful computer. I then found out it was the slimmest on the market. I need it for statistical work so I was very pleased to learn it is also very powerful. It is perfect for someone who travels as it can fit in a large handbag, yet does not want to sacrifice computing capabilities.

This is an incredible machine - clients and coworkers consistently comment on it when I take it out of my bag. Super light, decent battery and very sturdy (despite being very thin). Doesn't have a touch screen, but that isn't too big of a deal for me. One other snag is that to use any devices (USB, HDMI, etc.) requires an adapter, but I bought one for office and one for bag and I'm good.

My go to laptop for home and office

I used this laptop for my wireless home stereo Sonos system. Great because it's slim, fast, and looks great. I have friends who are physicians and CEOs who come to my home and always ask me "what kind of laptop is that?" They think I spent $3-$5 grand on it just because it looks so nice. Anyhow I also use it for work since I work from home a lot and personal e-mail. My three boys watch Amazon movies on here all the time and it's works great. I'm a little disappointed with the speakers, you'd think since Bang and Olufsen speakers you'd have alittle more sound but at the same time I realize it is kind of hard to get loud speakers in a paper thin laptop. Speakers are decent for the size I suppose. Good news is I have a solution, it has Bluetooth which I connect to a Bose sound doc for my Skype video calls or my wireless Sonos system if I want to listen to Pandora or my Amazon music. Word, Power Point, Excel all work great with system. Like I said all around great PC. If I had to pick a downfall no place for SD cards but with cloud storage don't really use SD cards as much anymore anyway. I'd say HP is ahead of the game with this Laptop. I don't work for HP or BestBuy and never leave reviews but thought I had to leave a review because I love this PC so much. I have had it now for almost a yr.....love it so much I also bought my wife one two or three days later.

This HP notebook was way beyond my expectation. I formed an immediate attraction to the sleek chrome & chocolate exterior the light weight and soft touch keyboard. The speed, graphics & speakers were mind blowing but problem with Windows 10 was disappointing.

I bought this for when I am on the road. Needed a laptop with decent size screen that I could carry in my purse so I wouldn't have to leave it in the car after check out time. Way too hot for that in Southern California. Have only taken it on one trip but so far it has worked out great.

This laptop is beautiful, thin and light. Pictures and videos looks great on the screen. Love the function key layout on keyboard, easy to turn on keyboard light, adjust screen brightness and turn on airplane mode. Apps run smoothly.
