Customers consistently note the Spectre x360's lightweight design, impressive battery life, and strong performance, particularly praising the speed of its solid-state drive. Many appreciate its compact size and the convenience of the touchscreen. While some users mention that the device can get warm during intensive use and that the fan can be noticeable at times, the positive feedback on its portability and elegant design outweighs these concerns for most buyers.

The Spectre x360 is good so far; I have only been using it for about 3-4 weeks.. I love that it is very light weight (less than 3lbs), almost like a tablet, but is a fully functional computer with a full sized keyboard. (I had looked at a Lenovo Yoga that is similar, but that one has a very odd placement of the arrow and return keys that would have been tough to get used to.) I like the new USB3 ports; it also has one regular USB connection. It does not have an Ethernet port, unfortunately. The only drawbacks so far are trying to get used to Windows 10 and it seems like the battery life could still use a little improvement, although it still is good. It just doesn't seem to get to anywhere close to the 14.75 hours advertised.

This is a late review but more valuable since I've had this laptop for quite a while and still like it. I don't use it as a tablet but as a laptop it's very good. It doesn't run hot and the fan noise is not very noticeable.

Needed HP Support

Great little laptop. Had to get HP support to install a software fix to rectify battery depletion while the laptop was completely shutdown. When shutdown from a fully charged condition, and then restarted the following day the battery indication would drop from 100% charged to 90% within the first couple minutes of use. Diagnostics showed that the battery was good. After a couple attempts with HP support, problem seems to be rectified. Look at the HP support forum for solutions. Six to 10 hours without charge is probably fairly accurate for battery life on a single charge. If watching a DVD on an external drive, maybe two to four hours. Otherwise very happy with the laptop.

Upgraded from MacBook Pro 15 inch mid 2010 i7. Was nervous about moving back to PC since I love Apple and have iPhone 7 and iPad Air 2. I couldn't justify new MacBook prices with last generation processors. I haven't regretted it. It's been about 6 weeks and I am glad. I had to adjust how I do things but it's been worth it. The HP Spectre x360 is super fast and Windows 10 is pretty nice once you get used to it. Long battery life, quick charging. Very well built laptop. I bought the 16GB Ram/500GB solid state HD model. MacBook with same specs would have easily cost me $800 more and would have had last generation processor. Sorry Apple you should have upgraded your processors! Buy the HP Spectre x360!

Only two negative factors are heat and fan sound. I compared other competitive models and with that design everyone has heat issues. Fan is not running continuously so it's manageable.

Bought this shortly after release and I can't stay enough good about it. The screen is good, the battery life is good, the performance is fantastic (it can even handle 1080p video in Premiere and Rocket League!) and the keyboard is amazing. Excellent PC.

Good laptop with a couple of issues

The HP Spectre X360 13 has great specs, is good looking, feels solid, and is somewhat lightweight, but has two issues that you should know about before buying it. First, the battery life is good while using it, but when you turn it off, the battery drains 8-10% per day. If you don't use it every day, then it may be dead the next time you try to use it. There is a fix which I successfully applied, but you might not get help from HP in finding it. Do a google search on the battery drain problem for this laptop, and you will find a forum on the HP site with 300 posts with not much comment from HP as to how to fix it. There is a "Sphinx" fix listed there that does work eventually. (It normally takes 2-3 tries and involves changing the bios along with some downloads) HP supposedly has moved the problem up to a "level 2" and a fix is supposedly coming without all the hassle of looking for it. Mine works properly now. Shame on HP for not taking it seriously. (The previous Spectre X360 models have the same problem).
The 2nd issue is the trackpad. It makes a clicking noise even with the lightest touch as if it's loose. I didn't notice it right away, but after a few left and right clicks on the pad, it developed the clicking noise. You might not hear it if the TV is on or other noise is in the room, but if the room is silent, then it will bug the heck out of you. Every tap or swipe (no matter how light) emits the clicking noise. There also is a fix for it supposedly, with mixed results. (I"m not going to attempt it myself out of fear of really screwing it up, but it's another thing to google with a lot of results). In the end, I will put up with the clicking trackpad and have it repaired if something else breaks. If you use a wireless mouse, then it might not be much of an issue to you. Something else to think about is a wireless mouse usually has a USB connection that will take up the only USB port on this laptop. Then it's dongle heaven.
I love everything else about the computer and the battery life is good now, so knowing that that there are few computers out there with these specs and with an excellent keyboard, screen, futureproof ports, and size, I will keep it. I just wish HP would do more to help their customers and not have to depend on forums to fix stuff. I would recommend this laptop to a friend with the above caveats if he or she isn't afraid to search and apply the fixes themselves. For the novice, probably not.
Other than the above, the laptop can get a little toasty, (you may wonder if you're suffering from incontinence), but I usually use a small laptop cooler, and the laptop fans are very quiet when they come on. I know there have been complaints about both of these, but I accept the fact that there is going to be some heat on a laptop this small and powerful. The vents are on the top, bottom, and left side, so I usually have my legs in a position that doesn't cover them totally. I suppose it might get a little warmer or louder if I was doing more intensive work on the computer. This is my first laptop so I'm not sure how the heat and noise compare to others. I can live with it though.
Even though this laptop is lightweight for it's class, using it as a tablet is not the best experience. It is too big and heavy to hold in your hands comfortably as a tablet while standing for any length of time. While in a sitting position, I do love the option to fold the screen back with the keys on the bottom and the screen in typical "propped up" tablet position though. Much better than a tablet stand or holding a tablet on it's own. I have yet to use it in the tent position, but I assume that it would be great for that too. The hinge seems sturdy enough to keep it in most positions except the last 3" before being completely in the tablet mode. Be forewarned though, this laptop screen does not use a pen. The older model had that feature, but not this one. Bummer.
I debated on rating this laptop 3 or 4 stars but decided on 3 because of the extent that HP does not seem to care about their customers after they buy the product. The issues above are not minor, yet they have not come up with a fix in almost 2 years? I knew the problem with the trackpad before buying it, but not the battery problem. It shouldn't take all of the effort to research the problems for everybody that buys this laptop, especially for the buyers that are not computer savvy, which I don't proclaim to be.

I love this laptop.
The keyboard is perfect. I type a LOT and having a comfortable keyboard with good travel and feedback is a major priority. The trackpad is good. It has a great size and the palm detection has been flawless so far. There are trackpads on the market that are better but not by much. I prefer to use a mouse but this laptop has gotten me to really appreciate this trackpad and I'm using it more than I thought I would. I'll admit that I haven't used the touchscreen that much but tablet mode is awesome when I want to show something on the screen to my fiance.
This laptop performs extremely well. Nothing slows it down. I may hear the fans come on once or twice a week for a few minutes while doing an update but that's it. I'm mainly using this laptop for software development and a few Office applications like Outlook, Word and Excel. The battery life has been great. I've been averaging well over 9 hours consistently. Charging is also really fast. 90% in 90 minutes has been my experience. Windows 10 has been a joy to use. It's fast, wakes from sleep quickly, facial recognition is incredibly fast and reliable and syncing my stuff (pics, docs and files) across deices with OneDrive and OneNote is effortless. They're really killing it right now!
I moved from a 15" laptop to this 13" machine and it only took a couple of days to adjust to the size. I also use an external monitor but I've had no problems using this screen size all day. My laptop's zoom was set at 150% when I first fired it up but I quickly changed that to 100% and prefer it at this level. All of the 13" Windows display models at the 2 Best Buy locations I visited were set at 150% as well so keep that in mind if you're planning on testing the laptops in store. Funny enough, all of the MacBook's on display were at 100% at those same locations.
The build quality is premium. Nothing squeaks or rattles. There are no soft points or flexing anywhere. The laptop is solid. The screen is great with really good viewing angles and brightness. The display is glossy but doesn't bother me too much when working near a window on a sunny day. 1080P is perfect for a screen this size. The speakers easily fill my living room but they're just laptop speakers. I typically connect them to my Bluetooth speaker whenever I want to listen to music or amplify a video.
The crazy part about all of this is that I was actually going to buy a 15" MacBook Pro before I even considered this laptop. There were many reasons why I didn't buy Apple's latest laptop and this laptop surprised me enough to get me to consider using Windows for my main machine. I can get work done at the same pace in MacOS and Windows 10 but If I still used iMessage or an iPhone this transition would've been tougher (but not impossible).

Very fast and capable with an i7-7500U processor, 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD. The i7-7500U is 15w TDP, but also has 25w and 7.5w states, so it can become much more powerful or more efficient as needed. Mine jumps to 3.504 GHz under load and seems to top out at 82-84C with a TJ Max (core temp) of 100C., which is good. Normal operating temps are in the low 40s. I don't hear the cooling fan. The incredibly fast m.2 PCIe SSDs just began showing up on high-end motherboards in 2016. And the Spectre has 3 USB 3.1 ports, 1 Type A (old type) and 2 Type C (the connector of the future) that also have Thunderbolt 3. These 3 connectors could not be better. Until everything connects with Type C, though, I bought a Cable Matters adapter on Amazon for $45 that plugs into a USB 3.1 Type C port on the Spectre, and itself provides 4 ports: HDMI, VGA, ethernet and a USB 3.0 Type A. (I do MS Excel and Access work and need to be ready for any client connection situation.) The keyboard is full size and comfortable, even with big hands, and the build quality in general seems very high. Solid. Very responsive and large track pad, Beautiful HD touchscreen. A 720p facial recognition camera, and it's in the best position, which is above the monitor. I let myself be talked in to a Yoga 910 with UHD at Best Buy without investigating it more, but traded it back in unopened later in the same day for the Spectre. The Yoga's only advantage is UHD, but I can't tell the difference on a 13.3" monitor. Also the UHD power consumption is very high, and I read that the Yoga's fans are loud. Also the Yoga has less desirable connection ports. My background is manufacturing. I'm a PC enthusiast, with a self-built water-cooled and overclocked main desktop, and I love this little Spectre. I love the level of tech, of course, but also the quality of execution. It seems to be superbly well-designed and -made.

Good performance for what you pay for. The specs are amazing at the price point. Better than the other competitors. Only problem that may be annoying is the warmth on the bottom due to the metal exterior.

Sleek, light, lots of ports (many more than the Lenovo Yoga, my other potential choice), excellent performance. Touchpad is actually a tad larger than I'd like -- easy to touch it accidentally, which sometimes changes what's on the screen (many would consider the size of the touchpad a positive; it's just a bit of a negative for me). Backlit keyboard is not the greatest -- to make sure I know which function key is which, I sometimes have to pull the keyboard closer).

The computer seems decent. It's a really nice sleek design, the battery not being what they say is rather disappointing. Why not make the upgrades more accessible or upfront to get the better battery life rather than subpar results. Admit to the issues and what needs to be done. Otherwise not real complaints other than the battery drains really fast while off, which seems strange even after the ports are turned of in the Bios for charging accessories.
