I read plenty of on-line reviews, both here on Amazon as well as other review sites, and nearly all mentioned how much they loved the computer but were experiencing nagging screen glitches, etc. I decided to take the plunge and buy the Spectre despite those issues. Well, not a day in using it and I started to experience the same problems, the most annoying being the screen glitches and an almost constant warning popping out from the lower right corner, "graphics driver stopped working!" Well, after several automatic HP and Windows updates, the problem went away! I had read that they were dealing with some incompatibility issues with the new Intel chip and were working on a software update fix, guess they figured it out.
Another issue that started worrying me was the bottom of the computer getting really hot to the point of not being able to keep it on my lap. I finally realized that I had the keyboard lit up all the time and once I turned off the light the overheating went away. At this point you're probably wondering why I'm giving this computer a 5 star rating. Well, despite the initial issues I found this computer to be a delight to work on! It boots up and shuts down in seconds, the keyboard and tracpad work great, and the screen is gorgeous! Now that the initial issues are gone I have to say this is a wonderful computer!

I've had this computer for a month now, and have used it at home and away. It boots up in under 10 seconds and is ready to use. It's the perfect size and weight, and I can take it anywhere. I primarily use it as a laptop with keyboard, but it's handy to be able to open it to tent position. It's thin and lightweight enough that I actually take it to meetings and settings where I would have taken an ipad and keyboard. The keyboard on this machine is wonderful to use. The keyboard feels better for typing than the keyboard for my desktop at work. I thought I would want a mouse to use with it, but for the first time I'm actually using the touchpad itself. And I love also having the touch screen. I haven't had any of the wifi issues other reviewers have mentioned.

pros- very fast response with the combination of the Intel i7 8GB memory and SSD hard drive.
- very sharp display with HP's QHD, on an equal basis with Apple's Retinal display.
- the combination of the touch screen and the keyboard speeds up your processing.
cons- the battery life is at best 6hr. with light use only.
- the bottom of the laptop gets hot under the Processor area.
- the Bang and Olufsen speakers are barely heard. Head phones are a must.

I needed a laptop for graphics and photography work yet have the ability to take my tablet’s place for easy tasks and having fun. The i7, 13” Quad HD touchscreen is perfect for my work setup running Lightroom, Photoshop and Dreamweaver all at once and no issues. I also bought a Dell Active Stylus which works great for delicate editing work and drawing so on the go this combo works almost as good as my Wacom on my desktop.
The sturdier build on the HP was so much better than the Surface and is definitely more attractive looking. Having the backlit keyboard was a must for me and I like the typing on the HP much better than the Surface.
I have had NO problems with WiFi, or graphics card that others have mentioned. So far getting great battery life and lots of enjoyment out of my HP Spectre.
I have recommended the HP Spectre in several of my photography groups and continue to do so for anyone looking for a new laptop and or tablet.

I thought it would be difficult to go to a smaller screen, however the touch feature that allows me to enlarge anything I am viewing with just the touch of my fingers, then restore it back to regular view, is fantastic. It is fast, light, fits in my purse, meaning only one carry-on when I fly. The internet connectivity is reliable and the battery lasts for days! Still learning to switch back and forth between laptop and tablet. Love it!!

I was looking for a compact, high end laptop to replace my old Dell Inspiron. I considered a Mac Book Pro, but was concerned about compatibility and wanted a touch screen. The Spectre 360 is compact, light, fast, and extremely versatile. I use it in the field as a Realtor to quickly pull up MLS data or reports using my smartphone as a hotspot, as a tablet for surfing reading articles, and as a touch screen upside down "V" to watch on demand or movies. The HD screen is very clear and bright and the battery power is very generous especially if you use battery saver mode. Make sure to get 8 MB memory and 256 GB flash drive. It's also snazzy with an all aluminum casing and lighted keyboard with Bang & Olfusen speakers which are impressive for their size.

The Hp Spectre 360x is a beast! A beautiful All aluminum construction, Touchscreen, convertible beast. Its thin shape makes it extremely portable and it has an amazing battery life to boot. I dislike Apple products due to my disdain for the company but was on the verge of picking up a Macbook or Macbook Air when i came across the Spectre. It hands down is superior to the alternatives. No compromises needed.

I read the reviews before purchasing my spectre, and even with the bad ones I thought I'd give it a shot, it's been about a month now, and I am still in love with it. I love the weight, it makes it easy to carry around, the size is perfect for what I need. I've only noticed the fan kicking on when I accidentally cover the vent, but that's an HP feature, the fans auto adjust when it's warming up. My battery lasts up to 48 hours with light usage, and I only plug in when it hits 15% so it's amazing, better than my tablet. Overall - great little machine with lots of power!

This machine gives you great performance for a decent price. Enough processing capacity and RAM to run MS Office functions and comfortably browse the web, for a fraction of what you would need to pay for a Dell or a Mac. Touchscreen is a nice extra.
Only complaint would be that the start screen sometimes takes a few seconds to load. However this might be more a function of Windows 10 than the machine.

Great laptop once I fixed the wifi issue

This is a great laptop with great specs. However, as many have found, the Windows 10 update eliminated the wifi connection. I took my computer to the Geek Squad to fix it but they were unable to accomplish this. I returned it and got another in hopes it would not have the same issue. This was not the case. Before I returned the second laptop, I decided to try and resolve the issue myself. Success! Here is what I did and I hope it helps others with their laptop. But be ready to spend some time on it.
1. I reset Windows 10 to factory settings
2. Once done, I went to the device manager and located the wifi driver under Network adapters. If it doesn't exist, try restarting computer and that should help it show up again.
3. Double click the wireless section. Select the Driver tab. Click on update driver and have it search the internet for latest driver.
4. Here is where it got frustrating. My computer kept losing the wifi connection during the download. What I did was let it download as much as it could before it dropped the connection, then I would click on the Disable button and then click on the Enable button. I then repeated the process of downloading the driver. It picked it up where it left off before losing the connection. I had to repeat this process many times.
5. Once it finalized the download, it installed it.
6. I restarted the computer to see if it worked. It did.
7. I then updated Windows 10 with the latest download, the one that eliminated the wifi connection and caused all of this frustration. I restarted the computer again and was happy to see the wifi driver worked.
It has worked ever since doing this. Microsoft should force your computer to update its wifi driver before installing the latest Windows update. That would probably save on a lot of returned computers.
I am very happy with this HP now that the wifi is resolved. It is very quick and quiet. Good luck!

This is super stylish and sturdy.
reading the other reviews, First I had concerns with the failing hard drive and screen blackout complains. turns out all the drivers needed to be updated, I had one black out screen event, called HP support they updated the drivers (Bios, graphic driver from Intel) and change some settings. and it works just fine, no complains.
The best part of this laptop is the battery life, continuous usage of 10+ hours. amazing. and this feels and look amazingly unique.

I first purchased the new ms surface book. Almost $600 more then the 360.no comparison. The surface froze on me, lost the mouse cursor all within the 1st 2 hours of use. I returned it and bought this spectra x360. It's super fast, the screen is beautiful in quad hd. Battery life is pretty good. I get about 8 hours. Overall I love this unit.

Great 2 in 1 notebook PC

I spent weeks looking over the best notebook PCs available in 2016.
My spec list included great construction, touchscreen, convertible use (yoga like), great looks, at least 4 GB RAM, at least 128GB of SSD, bright full HD display, long battery life, lots of ports, and cost less than $1000.
This eliminated the Dell XPS 13 since it does not come in a touchscreen at the price.
The Yoga 900 was considered but it cost $150 extra and used non-metal construction.
I got the HP Spectre X360 with 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, and Intel I7 CPU for $999 on sale. I loved the looks, the screen, the full size USB 3.0 and HDMI ports. After almost two months of ownership, the Spectre still looks new.
The Yoga 900 is lighter but I think that the Spectre is more rugged. The Spectre is made of solid aluminum top and bottom. Every seam is tight. The SD card slot holds the whole card as opposed to the Yoga 900 with the SD card hanging half-way out when inserted. I leave a 128GB SD card in the Spectre as supplemental storage. This would be difficult to do with the Yoga 900. In SD card testing, I found that the Spectre allows the full read write speed of SD cards. All of my other PCs limit SD card speed to USB 2.0 speeds.
The three full size USB 3.0 ports allows the full speed copying of data between USB 3.0 external drives. With other PCs, the copying is limited by having to use at least one USB 2 port.
In two months, I have not encountered a blue screen of death. Battery life when browsing and doing email is usually over 8 hours. The Spectre will idle with screen on dim for almost 19 hours. High CPU loads will drop battery life severely.
My benchmark tests with PC Mark 7 and PC Mark 8 are comparable to the test results on online reviews. This is a fast machine. The screen is very bright and great for viewing videos. The NotebookCheck website has a very detailed review of this notebook.
My only nit with the Spectre is the ACPI support. It does not provide battery life calculations to programs like BatteryBar.
There are so many little details that are done well. The full size SD card slot, the full size ports, the recessed power switch (hard to accidentally push), the led light on the backlight key, the led light on the mute key, the right angle power plug, the glass smooth touchpad, the Chiral scrolling support, the left size exhaust vent, and the alignment of the function keys to the number keys (F5 is over 5) are some of them.
This is the best HP notebook I have owned.

This laptop was a great deal with my student coupon. It has amazing battery life, especially considering my old laptop only had about 3 or 4 hours of battery life. It's very lightweight and easy to carry around. It looks great and works great.
The tablet mode is an added bonus. I haven't had any trouble with it. The hinges are sturdy and work well when converting from laptop mode to tablet mode. The screen does show fingerprints, so I have to clean the screen fairly often.
I got this laptop for the keyboard. I do a ton of typing, so I needed a good one. I tried out the keyboards on numerous laptops but I didn't like any of them. This one isn't flat and makes a nice, but not too loud, sound when I type. The keys are spaced out perfectly.
I was pleasantly surprised with the touchpad, which feels silky smooth and works well. My only critique is that because it is fairly large, my palms rest in weird places while I type.
The laptop does get a little warm on the bottom, like other reviews said, but not warm enough for it to be a problem.
I wanted something lightweight with a long battery life and a good keyboard. This is perfect.

I usually research endlessly before making large purchases, and typically buy online for the best price. After a number of weeks of research I was set on a Surface Pro 4, and planned to order one soon. While out of town at a tradeshow my existing laptop completely failed me, so I HAD to run to Best Buy to get something and it was right before closing time. Through a quick conversation with the rep, he found out I was primarily interested in a pressure sensitive pen system (didn't really care of it was laptop or tablet, as long as the keyboard folded out of the way). I never realized the HP series has a pressure sensitive pen option. I ended up getting this 2-in-1 with more processing power and more memory at a less price than I was about to pay for a Surface. Very satisfied with this system.

I bought this laptop to replace my older clunky HP laptop and I am extremely satisfied, mainly with the SSHD. This machine blazes, and it is impressively quiet and portable. There is a fan in there somewhere but you can barely hear it. I am an IT consultant and I use this laptop for ordinary MS Office functions and more advanced applications using a VM on Hadoop. Screen is very sharp, quality is fine and the lighted keyboard is nice. Love the new color, almost a silky burnished black with gold trim. Very cool and nice upgrade from the old plastic.

Everything I was looking for!

I will start with this: my previous laptop was HP, and its build quality was terrible. I was very disappointed, and having heard similar experiences from others, I was reluctant to get an HP again. Seeing this laptop convinced me to give them another shot though, and I am really glad I did!
I've had this laptop for 7 months now, and here is a run-down of how it has fared in terms of things that I find important.
Battery Life: Amazing. Considering the screen gets quite bright, I usually keep the brightness setting quite low (better for the eyes that way, too). Considering that, I have never been able to leave this computer on for long enough to completely drain its battery. By "on" I mean awake, screen on, and I'm doing something or the other on it. After around 3 hours of use, the battery has consistently gone from 100% to somewhere in the mid 70's (I've checked this numerous times, and recently too). I was streaming videos or Netflix for many of these tests as well. Bottom line, I never have to carry around my charger unless I expect to be away for more than a day. This was one of the most important factors in a new laptop, and I honestly could not be happier!
Touchscreen for taking notes: The digitized touchscreen is perfect for taking notes with the Dell stylus, or with just a finger as well. The 360 degree hinge was a bonus, and has been incredibly useful for sitting in lecture halls with little space. If you're not interested in a touchscreen, then you certainly don't have to use it, and this laptop's battery life is still a lot better than non-touchscreen ones. NOTE: The second generation of this laptop (late 2016, Kaby Lake) does NOT have a digitized touchscreen, so there will be no palm rejection when using a capacitive stylus (and active styluses won't work).
Good build quality: Obviously since this is made of metal the build quality is great. I will say that the bottom panel seems to be screwed in a bit more on one side than the other, so it doesn't quite match the build quality of Apple products, but unless you're looking at the laptop under a magnifying glass for inconsequential imperfections, it doesn't make a difference.
Low fan noise: The lack of an HDD helps reduce the heat, and so the fan is rarely on. I find the laptop heat up enough to kick on the fan only when I'm playing browser games that are demanding on Wi-FI. It doesn't heat up with streaming though. When it does turn on, it is very quiet.
Other notes: It's trackpad is wonderful, the keyboard is wonderful, it's thin and light. The only thing I have to complain about it is the lack of a Windows Hello sign-in, but if you're willing to forego the digitized touchscreen, then the second generation of this laptop comes with Visual and IR Windows Hello sign-in, so that's an option. I'm open to questions, so feel free to comment on this if you wish and I'll respond when I can.
