Avoid This Laptop at All Costs!

I can't stress this enough: do NOT buy this laptop. It’s marketed as a gaming computer, but the battery life is a ridiculous 45 minutes! How does that even make sense? As a laptop, I expected to be able to use it unplugged, but instead, I’m tethered to a wall outlet. I was in the middle of an intense gaming session when the battery died—after less than 45 minutes! I completely lost my game because this laptop just couldn't keep up. What a frustrating experience! This has been a total waste of money. If it weren’t for the fact that I missed the return window, I would have returned it in a heartbeat. Now I see why it was on sale: it's just plain garbage. Save yourself the headache and look for a different laptop!

My daughter had been saving her money for a gaming computer and we had kept our eye on this computer. As it just so happened, we went to Best Buy on her birthday and the price had dropped significantly on this computer and she had acquired just enough money to make the purchase. Here is what we have noticed: -While this might be a plastic encasing, it does not feel cheap. -The trackpad works well with sensitivity and gestures. -The backlit keyboard is a white light only on this mode, but looks great and makes it very easy to locate the keys looked for. -The keyboard is very nice and tactile and easy to type on. I really find it to be a comfortable and easy experience. -The screen is not going to be the highest resolution or brightness, nor the most color accurate on this price, but unless you are very picky or gaming in daylight, this is plenty good enough for an enjoyable gaming experience. -The laptop, as with many gaming laptops, is on the heavier side and the off the charge battery life isn’t the best, but it can still be toted and used out and about. -The computer is very snappy; it turns on and wakes up quickly. Items, unless intensive, open very snappily (especially since upgrading the RAM, which I’ll mention later). -The fan does make some fan noise, which isn’t extreme, but it would be noticeable in a quieter classroom if this were a place you would find yourself using this. However, it does not heat up (therefore start up the fans) on us unless/until pushed with gaming. -The 512 hard drive is not the best, but it is plenty for now. The great thing is that this is upgradable if desired. -The 8 GB RAM is the biggest shortcoming for this laptop with its price points. We originally noticed games taking just a tad more time to load that maybe expected. Once in and running heavily, she would be kicked out of games due to RAM consumption. Thankfully, adding another 8 GB was very affordable and easy and has made all the difference - all games opening quickly and no games kicking her out. -Bluetooth attachments work well, seamlessly, and quickly. The items used most with this are Beats headphones, a gaming mouse, two different gaming controllers (BitDuo and XBox). Overall, this is a fast machine that is very capable as a work machine, video editor, and gaming machine. This works as desired. You will not receive premium sound (which headphones are used normally anyway) or picture (but is plenty good enough at this price point). You will find yourself needing to upgrade the RAM to get what you truly want out of this machine, but that is quick, affordable, and easily enough. All peripherals work without issue nor lag. The keyboard looks great with its backlighting and is a very nice, comfortable experience. This is definitely worth the price point when on sale (sub $500). I would not pay full retail for this, as I would opt for something lighter with better battery life at the near $900 mark, but at sub $500, this is a great computer no matter what you use it for and is super snappy. Again, I do certainly recommend, for this computer, to upgrade to at least 15 GB RAM with the second slab at least equaling the speed of the first slab.

After tweaking it a little bit without adding ram i got 300 fps looking up in a creative map. It has really good graohics if you optimize stuff like the nvidia control panel if you want even more fps i would recommend buying more ram. But right now i run about 120-160 fps in game with it capped l. I definitely recommend this laptop if you were looking to stream while playing your going to need to upgrade the ram first. Overall great laptop I see myself using this for a few years.

Great graphics. Looks great didnt have the memory i wanted so i upgraded that to 1tb. Unfortunately it only has 1 slot for the internal ssd card. So had to re install the windows OS. The battery doesnt last long with the settings i have on it. Other than that its fast and a good option for a budget gaming laptop

The laptop has a very nice design. It’s an entry-level gaming computer. Overall, you can play most games. I play games like GTA 5, and it runs smoothly with high FPS. The only downside is that it has 8GB of RAM, which is a bit disappointing. 7/10.

    Fantastic Mid-Range Gaming Laptop

This is a great gaming laptop if you're looking for the following: - Considering the top-of-the-line gaming laptops are $1400+, this is a great budget option of midrange specs (especially if you can get this item on sale). - You are looking to play games that are older than a year, or do not require intensive graphics. I like the Star Wars universe and recent games run well on mid-high graphics settings. - You want to play a couple of game titles casually with your friends. Competitive... this depends what games you're looking at. Most of the popular online skirmish/battle royale games run fine. - You want to ensure having access to games that require Nvidia Geforce graphics. I bought an Intel graphics-based computer in the past and it became an issue when it turns out D4 would not run at all. Granted, that computer was not intended for gaming. - You want a laptop with acceptable, business-professional aesthetics. Many other gaming laptop designs are not something to bring into the office if attempting to maintain a professional business image. This one has a sleek, clean look where only those who know the Victus line as a gaming laptop will know. Other than that, it will pass as a laptop with some power. This point only matters if your workplace has certain expectations of your professional appearance. If any of the above points apply to you, then this laptop checks out as a great option. Now, onto some things to be aware about: FAN NOISE: Graphic-intensive games will get the fan running loud. If you have headphones on, you naturally won't hear it. The fan sucks air from the bottom and blows it out the back. CPU TEMPERATURE: According to the OMEN Gaming Hub (preinstalled by HP), the CPU temperature peaked at 185 degrees Fahrenheit at 100%. For reference, this was while playing Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War (released 2020) with several graphic settings on high (not max/"ultra"). RAM: I upgraded my RAM to 32gb DDR4 3200 MHz. STORAGE: If you plan to play more than 5 recent titles, either upgrade your SSD, or uninstall the completed game and make space to install the next game. I manually upgraded my SSD to a Samsung 990 Pro, also purchased from Best Buy. Overall, my gaming sessions are about 1-2 hours each, and not daily. As such, this game is very suitable for midrange gaming needs and can handle some higher-intensive games.

The HP Victus 15.6" Gaming Laptop in Performance Blue strikes a balance between affordability and performance, making it an enticing option for gamers seeking a capable machine without breaking the bank. With its Intel Core i5 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card, the laptop delivers smooth gameplay and impressive visuals, especially with the 144Hz Full HD display. The 8GB memory and 512GB SSD provide sufficient storage and responsiveness, ensuring swift loading times for games and applications. The design, featuring the eye-catching Performance Blue color, adds a touch of style to the gaming experience, distinguishing it from other laptops in its price range. While the HP Victus excels in performance and value, it does have some limitations to consider. The 8GB memory may feel constrained for more demanding multitasking or future-proofing, and users might consider upgrading it for optimal performance. Additionally, while the RTX 3050 provides solid gaming performance for most titles, it may struggle with the most graphically intensive games at higher settings. Overall, the HP Victus 15.6" Gaming Laptop offers excellent value for casual and mid-range gamers, with its balance of performance, affordability, and stylish design making it a compelling choice in the competitive gaming laptop market.

Pretty awesome computer! The graphics card is a bit deceptive on the product listing as I did no realize that the laptop and desktop gpus both have the same name but are different depending on what hardware their bundled with so I thought I was getting a laptop with a bit more power but no matter this laptop has still proved to be an awesome purchase and I really like it. I use it as a backup work computer and a gaming laptop for indie games and older games, oh and also mods and it works really great for that. Overall, super happy with this purchase

I would recommend this item if you just want to play small, cozy games. It also always needs to be on the charger, or it will die. But the graphics were good, and it runs smoothly. I mostly played Roblox, Sims 4, and Minecraft on it.

Not a super powerful gaming system, but plays all the games I want to without issues. 8GB memory is a bit short, so I upped it to 32GB and it runs great now. All I want to do is bump up the storage a bit and this should last me a while. The laptop is made of plastic and gets a bad reputation for the hinges breaking, but one month in and mine is in good shape. Just open gently from the center and you should have no problems.

I got this laptop during a Deal of the Day about 2 weeks ago. It was at $599 but I got an open box at $508. First thing I did was buy 32gb of Ram and a 2tb NVME drive. Installing the drive and ram was pretty straight forward. I was surprised that the laptop had 2 NVME slots. I was debating between a handheld gaming pc or a gaming laptop. I do light gaming and also use slicing software for my 3D printer. I have to say, I am not disappointed at all with the Victus laptop. I have been playing the Gears of War beta and it looks great. I am getting over 100 fps. One thing I noticed when I have the system metrics going is that GoW Beta makes the CPU run at 100%, same with CoD and any graphic intensive game. I think the i5 processor is likely the culprit but the thermals stay in a good range. Don't get me wrong, you can hear the fans when they go on high but I can also hear my wall AC so it's not a big problem. I seriously wanted to splurge on the Asus G14 or G16 but did not want to spend all that money, especially since I didn't need all that power. The screen isn't something to brag about but it gets bright enough and I honestly keep my laptop connected to an external 2k monitor so its a none-issue for me. The HP Omen software is pretty good in that it lets you tweak your games using their AI to switch the game to the beset display settings but outside of enabling the metrics, I rarely use it I think if you can find this laptop at $500 or below, it is a great buy, just get more ram.

This is probably the worst PC I have ever owned. It has fairly decent performance for casual gaming. However, it has had battery and network connection issues since day one. I wish I had returned it in the two weeks after I bought it, because it has only gotten worse. It can only hold a charge for about 30 minutes during a gaming session. I know this is pretty common for gaming laptops and you can expect to be plugged in most of the time. But the thing that gets me is I can have all apps closed out, nothing running in the background, fully charged and asleep and the battery will be totally drained overnight while not in use. I wake it up the following morning and it’s somehow at 5%. Why? I have owned a cheap Lenovo laptop used it mainly for gaming even though it was not a gaming laptop and did not have these issues with the battery. On to the network connectivity. It will at random and for no apparent reason just refuse to stay connected to the Wi-Fi for more than two minutes at a time, connecting and disconnecting every few minutes. This will go on for a few hours no matter what I do to try to fix the connection. Then just as randomly it will reconnect and be fine for days. It is not my Wi-Fi since every other device in the house is connected without issue. I have to conclude that it’s this computer. And the fact that it has done this from the beginning leads me to believe there’s something wrong. I am not very tech savvy, although I am capable of troubleshooting minor issues with help from google. I just don’t know what the problem is here and I do not want to spend more money to get this fixed when I have only had it for a few months. Cannot return it but am still paying for it. Also the fan is incredibly loud and you better not have this on your actual lap while playing a game because it gets so incredibly hot, it will burn your legs. It is also very slow. I know this model is a 2023 but I bought it supposedly brand new. For comparison, I previously owned a Dell xps desktop which I used for gaming for 3 years, it was not the newest model when purchased, and I never once had an issue with diminishing speed. For example, it will take like 5 minutes to load up my game after hitting start, the dell would be practically instant. And….same internet connection soooo….. Overall very disappointed considering it had pretty positive reviews. It underperforms for the price imho. A $200 Lenovo not made for gaming did better than this. /sigh

The Ultimate Budget Gaming Beast Under $800?

If you're looking for a gaming laptop that won’t destroy your bank account but still delivers solid 1080p gaming, the HP Victus 15.6” with the RTX 3050 is a standout contender. It bridges the gap between entry-level gaming and serious performance with a balanced spec sheet, a sleek design, and a fast display—all for under $800. Design & Build The Mica Silver chassis gives it a mature, understated look compared to the aggressive RGB-heavy styles of typical gaming laptops. This makes it suitable for work, school, or professional settings as well. It's not exactly ultra-portable at 5.06 pounds, but that’s expected for a gaming laptop with discrete graphics and a cooling system. The chassis is mostly plastic but feels well-assembled, with minimal flex on the keyboard deck and lid. The keyboard itself is excellent: full-sized, tactile, with a numeric keypad, and good travel. The precision touchpad is wide and responsive, though gamers will likely prefer an external mouse for better control. Performance Under the hood, the Intel Core i5-12450H and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 (4GB GDDR6) form a powerful duo for 1080p gaming. Popular titles like Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Valorant easily hit 60+ FPS on high settings. Even Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring are playable with some settings adjustment. The 8GB DDR4 RAM is enough to get started but upgrading to 16GB (user-upgradable) is highly recommended for smoother multitasking and future-proofing. The 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD is fast and responsive, with ample room for the OS, software, and 3–4 large modern games. Display & Graphics The 15.6-inch 144Hz Full HD (1920x1080) IPS display is a major highlight. The refresh rate is smooth, reducing motion blur in fast-paced games. Colors are vivid, viewing angles are wide, and brightness is respectable at around 250–300 nits, making it ideal for indoor use. The RTX 3050 GPU supports ray tracing and DLSS, offering some of the benefits of high-end gaming at a fraction of the price. You won’t max out every AAA game, but with DLSS enabled, the performance-per-watt is outstanding for this tier. Thermals & Battery Life This is the weakest link. The fans get loud under heavy load, and the laptop does get warm—especially around the keyboard. Thermals are manageable, but sustained performance over long gaming sessions may see mild throttling. Undervolting or using a cooling pad can help. Battery life is average to poor, which is expected: 4–5 hours for light tasks, and 1.5–2 hours max for gaming. Always keep the charger nearby. Final Verdict The HP Victus 15.6” RTX 3050 model is arguably the best gaming laptop in its price range. For under $800, it offers solid 1080p gaming, a premium 144Hz display, and upgrade potential. While thermals and battery life aren’t perfect, the performance-to-price ratio is excellent. For gamers, students, or creators on a budget, this is a very easy recommendation.

I purchased this laptop so that I could play one of my favorite pc games. So far the performance is amazing and I'm glad that I purchased it. I would definitely recommend the HP-Victus. I'm not sure if it has to be plugged up the entire time of use, but the battery life isn't great without being on constant charge. I do unplug it a few times per day to allow the computer a chance to not overcharge.

I really enjoy this laptop. Probably one of the best ones I've ever had. The only complaint I have about it is the 8GB ram, HOWEVER there is the option to get the the other version with more RAM so that wasn't even a big deal. This laptop does come with an additional RAM slot to be able to add more if needed so that's definitely a plus for me. I love the way the keyboard feels and the way that my fingers easily flow across it. I got this laptop in the beginning to just play the Sims 4 in a better way (had a Dell previously and it had did all it could) and this laptop handles it EASILY. Moved on to InZOI and it also handles it pretty well, but definitely came in clutch with that extra RAM storage. All in all, not a bad laptop IMO and would be one that I recommend.
