Great computer for the price!

My daughter had been saving her money for a gaming computer and we had kept our eye on this computer. As it just so happened, we went to Best Buy on her birthday and the price had dropped significantly on this computer and she had acquired just enough money to make the purchase. Here is what we have noticed:
-While this might be a plastic encasing, it does not feel cheap.
-The trackpad works well with sensitivity and gestures.
-The backlit keyboard is a white light only on this mode, but looks great and makes it very easy to locate the keys looked for.
-The keyboard is very nice and tactile and easy to type on. I really find it to be a comfortable and easy experience.
-The screen is not going to be the highest resolution or brightness, nor the most color accurate on this price, but unless you are very picky or gaming in daylight, this is plenty good enough for an enjoyable gaming experience.
-The laptop, as with many gaming laptops, is on the heavier side and the off the charge battery life isn’t the best, but it can still be toted and used out and about.
-The computer is very snappy; it turns on and wakes up quickly. Items, unless intensive, open very snappily (especially since upgrading the RAM, which I’ll mention later).
-The fan does make some fan noise, which isn’t extreme, but it would be noticeable in a quieter classroom if this were a place you would find yourself using this. However, it does not heat up (therefore start up the fans) on us unless/until pushed with gaming.
-The 512 hard drive is not the best, but it is plenty for now. The great thing is that this is upgradable if desired.
-The 8 GB RAM is the biggest shortcoming for this laptop with its price points. We originally noticed games taking just a tad more time to load that maybe expected. Once in and running heavily, she would be kicked out of games due to RAM consumption. Thankfully, adding another 8 GB was very affordable and easy and has made all the difference - all games opening quickly and no games kicking her out.
-Bluetooth attachments work well, seamlessly, and quickly. The items used most with this are Beats headphones, a gaming mouse, two different gaming controllers (BitDuo and XBox).
Overall, this is a fast machine that is very capable as a work machine, video editor, and gaming machine. This works as desired. You will not receive premium sound (which headphones are used normally anyway) or picture (but is plenty good enough at this price point). You will find yourself needing to upgrade the RAM to get what you truly want out of this machine, but that is quick, affordable, and easily enough. All peripherals work without issue nor lag. The keyboard looks great with its backlighting and is a very nice, comfortable experience. This is definitely worth the price point when on sale (sub $500). I would not pay full retail for this, as I would opt for something lighter with better battery life at the near $900 mark, but at sub $500, this is a great computer no matter what you use it for and is super snappy. Again, I do certainly recommend, for this computer, to upgrade to at least 15 GB RAM with the second slab at least equaling the speed of the first slab.

Gaming computer but the only thing it cant do is gaming. I tried playing less demanding games like genshin impact and it lagged so bad. Tried heavier aaa games and it lagged even worse. My potato phone run games better than this "gaming" computer

My Experience with the HP Victus 15.6" 144Hz Gaming Laptop (Mica Silver)
I've been using this HP Victus for about 2 months now, mainly for mid-tier gaming like Valorant, Fortnite, and some older AAA titles, plus schoolwork and streaming. The Intel Core i5-13420H and RTX 3050 combo delivers solid 1080p performance—smooth 60+ FPS on medium-high settings in most games, with the 144Hz screen making everything feel buttery responsive. Boot times are lightning-fast thanks to the 512GB SSD, and the Mica Silver finish looks sleek without screaming "gamer."
The keyboard is comfortable for long sessions, and cooling holds up decently during extended play (fans get loud but temps stay manageable). It's a fantastic budget entry into gaming laptops—great value when I got it on sale.
That said, the 8GB RAM feels limiting for heavy multitasking or newer demanding games (stutters in some titles until I plan to upgrade), and the display colors are a bit washed out with low brightness for outdoor use.
Pros (why I liked): Smooth 144Hz gaming and fast loading.
Cons (why I disliked): Only 8GB RAM bottlenecks performance at times.

If you're looking for a gaming laptop that won’t destroy your bank account but still delivers solid 1080p gaming, the HP Victus 15.6” with the RTX 3050 is a standout contender. It bridges the gap between entry-level gaming and serious performance with a balanced spec sheet, a sleek design, and a fast display—all for under $800.
Design & Build
The Mica Silver chassis gives it a mature, understated look compared to the aggressive RGB-heavy styles of typical gaming laptops. This makes it suitable for work, school, or professional settings as well. It's not exactly ultra-portable at 5.06 pounds, but that’s expected for a gaming laptop with discrete graphics and a cooling system.
The chassis is mostly plastic but feels well-assembled, with minimal flex on the keyboard deck and lid. The keyboard itself is excellent: full-sized, tactile, with a numeric keypad, and good travel. The precision touchpad is wide and responsive, though gamers will likely prefer an external mouse for better control.
Performance
Under the hood, the Intel Core i5-12450H and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 (4GB GDDR6) form a powerful duo for 1080p gaming. Popular titles like Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Valorant easily hit 60+ FPS on high settings. Even Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring are playable with some settings adjustment.
The 8GB DDR4 RAM is enough to get started but upgrading to 16GB (user-upgradable) is highly recommended for smoother multitasking and future-proofing. The 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD is fast and responsive, with ample room for the OS, software, and 3–4 large modern games.
Display & Graphics
The 15.6-inch 144Hz Full HD (1920x1080) IPS display is a major highlight. The refresh rate is smooth, reducing motion blur in fast-paced games. Colors are vivid, viewing angles are wide, and brightness is respectable at around 250–300 nits, making it ideal for indoor use.
The RTX 3050 GPU supports ray tracing and DLSS, offering some of the benefits of high-end gaming at a fraction of the price. You won’t max out every AAA game, but with DLSS enabled, the performance-per-watt is outstanding for this tier.
Thermals & Battery Life
This is the weakest link. The fans get loud under heavy load, and the laptop does get warm—especially around the keyboard. Thermals are manageable, but sustained performance over long gaming sessions may see mild throttling. Undervolting or using a cooling pad can help.
Battery life is average to poor, which is expected: 4–5 hours for light tasks, and 1.5–2 hours max for gaming. Always keep the charger nearby.
Final Verdict
The HP Victus 15.6” RTX 3050 model is arguably the best gaming laptop in its price range. For under $800, it offers solid 1080p gaming, a premium 144Hz display, and upgrade potential. While thermals and battery life aren’t perfect, the performance-to-price ratio is excellent. For gamers, students, or creators on a budget, this is a very easy recommendation.

After setup and updates, it runs phenomenally! Image is great, keyboard is responsive. The battery did drain really fast while gaming, but i think thats standard in a gaming laptop at this point

Overall, this has been a great experience for me. I havent owned a laptop since 2011 and Im sooo amazed at how much better they are. Lighter, faster, smarter, more options. Love it! The only negative thing is that the light up keyboard does not have the capability of dimming. I also notice when i use the light on the keyboard or I have to use wifi, the battery doesnt last long. Otherwise, i really do like this laptop. It seems to be built well, solid and not flimsy.

Easy to set up and great for a beginner. Was told I couldn't install more ram but that was incorrect. We bought 16 GB of ram and installed it. Works great. Great bang for your buck entry level gaming laptop. We have been able to play AAA titles with no issues. Workers were trying to tell us not to get it and that we weren't able to buy ram for it. There is an empty slot where you can install more. It configured automatically. We had an initial issue with being sold a refurbished one as a brand new one. Luckily we caught it and were able to take it back as we were charged full price when it was an open box returned one. Manager couldn't find the 1 they had left. An employee was able to locate it right where it said it was. We felt we were being played at first. But the worker that helped us thank you for finding it. My son was very happy. Graphics and everything are great for a first time PC gamer. The only downside is the battery life. However he plays it on his desk so he can plug it it when needed.

I play a fair amount of video games and this computer runs everything that I need easily and well WITH ONE NOTE: this laptop only comes with 8GB of RAM, which is not enough to run more than the basics. Just letting the computer sit there with nothing running uses 7.6GB. That said, it has another slot, so you can easily get another stick of RAM and add it to the 8 (I got a 16GB stick so I have 24GB now). Of course it also runs anything for schoolwork or officework easily as well. The price was very good for me and for what it is, but it was on sale for me. Overall, I would totally recommend! I love this laptop and it works very well.

offers good performance for its price, with an Intel Core i5 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 that handle everyday tasks smoothly and run most games well. The 144Hz Full HD screen delivers smooth visuals, though the brightness could be better. Cooling works effectively, but the fans can get loud during heavy use. Battery life is average, lasting a few hours for browsing and less during gaming. The build quality is decent but doesn’t feel premium, especially around the hinge and ports. Overall, it’s a capable and affordable gaming laptop for casual gaming and daily use, but not a replacement for higher-end rigs

This laptop is great for the price. My old computer struggled to run graphically intense games, and this one just breezes through them. My few issues with this laptop are that it's battery life isn't great (but what can you expect from a gaming laptop), that it doesn't charge with usb-c but this issue isn't too bad, and that it only has 8gb of ram, but I upgraded this for only about $80.

After tweaking it a little bit without adding ram i got 300 fps looking up in a creative map. It has really good graohics if you optimize stuff like the nvidia control panel if you want even more fps i would recommend buying more ram. But right now i run about 120-160 fps in game with it capped l. I definitely recommend this laptop if you were looking to stream while playing your going to need to upgrade the ram first. Overall great laptop I see myself using this for a few years.

Absolutely love this laptop. The performance is smooth, fast, and perfect for playing The Sims (and other games too). Load times are quick, and the graphics look amazing with the RTX 3050. The 144Hz display is a major upgrade—it makes everything feel more responsive. The only minor downside is the fan can get a bit loud after a few hours of play, but honestly, I barely notice it when I’m deep in gameplay. Great value for the price and perfect for casual to moderate gamers.

The HP Victus 15.6" works really well for gaming and everyday use. The screen is smooth with 144Hz, and games run nicely with the RTX 3050. It starts fast and looks good in silver. The only small issue is the 8GB RAM it’s better if upgraded to 16GB. Overall, a good laptop for the price.

Pros-
Bright screen, decent performance under light load, adequate number of ports.
Cons-
Battery life is not great, device gets hot under moderate load, frequently requires a restart, and occasional track pad malfunction.
If you need something that will just get you on the internet and want to play some very light games, great device. Anything more than that and I would wait for a better device to go on sale.
Overall exactly what you would expect from a laptop at this price-point.

Bough this for $540 brand new, by far one of my best purchases. Upgraded it next day with a 16GB stick for $40 and since it run perfectly. The ram is necessary tho, because without upgrading the 8gb are always capping and cut your fps in half, but with the ram I can not complain. It also came with 3 months of Gamepass.

Bangerrrrr. I reccomend this laptop for those who play optimized compact games. It definitely needs a RAM upgrade upon purchasing. Battery life is a little short but that's to be expected with a gaming laptop. Overall a great deal.

I had this laptop for about 6-7 months and it's great for it's price. I can't play AAA games on med-high settings. However, it runs really smooth, especially with buying more ram it runs fast. The fan speed is Incredible for those who are on it for a while. It does blow hot air but only gets to about 90 degrees on high usage.

Don't have much experience with gaming pcs but this one is decent and what you would expect for the price. Runs ok but struggles with many things open or certain games will lag a lot. Battery life is pretty bad you would just have to have it plugged in all the time. Features are nice and screen looks great. Would recommend for functionality and low price.
