I love Onkyo electronics and had to purchase another surround sound because my last one died after 3 years of minimal use. I love the Bluetooth technology and I use it often however,the sound is not loud and I have a Note 10. Another issue is you have to turn it up past 20 just to hear a decent sound coming from the speakers. I read that on another review and thought that maybe they got a bad unit, but mine is the same way, so this is an Onkyo issue. I don't like geek squad tactics of finding a way to not honor their warranty. Best buy will talk you into purchasing the extended warranty which is not really extended. I purchased it only because I was told that the warranty would start after the manufacturer warranty was expired and that was not the truth. If we had any other electronics stores in my area, that lie would have prevented me from ever using Best buy again. As a customer I felt manipulated and no one cared to resolve the issue.

I bought this to upgrade a sound bar with sub. It’s definitely not a high end unit but it’sa much better value than comparably priced sound bar units. Plus it is a good base unit if you wanted to upgrade the speakers in the future. The speakers are very light and made of plastic but will suffice until I upgrade them. The sound quality was noticeably better when tested against my existing 3.1 LG sound bar. So if you’re in the market, I would not hesitate to pick this set up versus a similarly priced sound bar.

Our old home theater system was on its last legs, so my son researched and found the Onkyo system as a replacement. It was in stock at our local Best Buy, so we opted for the in-store purchase rather than online. At the store, I asked the clerk for a review, and he said that it was a great starter system (hence the title of this review). Set up was pretty quick. Longest part was wiring the speakers to the back of the room. There wasn't enough wiring included to get both back-room speakers in, so recommend getting some extra speaker wire when you purchase the unit. Sound quality is really good, if you're not looking for Bose quality. For our family, this system is good enough. Another feature we liked is multiple ports for plugging in HDTV, cable, DVD, game system, etc. It had the most ports of any system this size, quality, and price point. Only a month in, but so far, so good.

This Onkyo home theater system is great! It comes with the technology to handle all hi-fi audio formats, digital or analog. From Bluetooth, to digital optical TV audio interface to HDMI to Component inputs it can take just about whatever you've got. Clear & excellent sound quality with easy to use remote. Best Buy's price was very good, as usual, & got even better since my pickup store's unit was its last & was an open box. Unit was in perfect working, & appearance, condition. Thanks Best Buy you rock!!

Tried two different units as I was constantly getting a hissing noise that just would not go away. After re-configuring multiple times and addressing a plethora of websites/forums/tech support/etc, I think the end result is that my living room just isn't large enough for this, and it kept getting interference from both itself and the other electronics near it (despite doing my best to insulate/shield the wires). The sound prior to any hissing was great, and I liked being able to customize the EQ, though I did find the customization levels a bit underwhelming in comparison to the older unit I bought this to replace it with. Ultimately I'd say if you have the space for this it would be a great starter to mid-level unit. I ended up returning it and purchasing a Sonos Beam plus 2 Ikea branded Symphonisk bookshelf speakers for the surround units and think it sounds fantastic, and was almost effortless to setup.

Super nice system. Powerful base and the option to add a powered sub to the system. The bluetooth isn’t the best. You can only have one device programmed into the system for Bluetooth. So if you have different cell phone you have to reprogram each time.

A simple, but smart and good quality system for the money. HDMI ports for all your typical inputs. Easy to set up and lots of adjustments available in the settings.

Easy to setup, sounds great, it does a nice job with the sub.

This was so easy to install and follow the directions. The surround sound quality is just amazing!! I would recommend this to anyone!

Took a bit to get set up but so far audio is great. I have the two rear speakers set up with a wireless transmitter and still has decent sound. One con is that the subwoofer can't be individually set up. So you kinda have to take a gamble on the tone. Other than that i am happy with it.

This thing is incredible. It has 2 powered sub outs! Why don’t they mention this? This is great! You can do 5.1 or 5.2 or 3.1.2. I prefer to do 5.1 using the DTX Virtual for all 7.1 media.... thing thing sounds amazing. Last year for my living room I got a Denon 5.2 for $330 & spent another $330 on JBL towers & Sub. For $300 this item comes with bookshelf speakers & a passive sub! I recommend (Thumbs up)

Great sound for the price, easy to setup, works great with all TV providers remotes, would recommend for a lower priced system.

It surprised me at how good this surround sound system was. I got it for both my Apple TV 4K & Xbox One X & I can say that with Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos really enhanced the experience. I would recommend this to anyone that wants good surround sound that won't break the bank.

First surround sound system. Only complaint is that kit did not come with wall mounts for forward, center, and surround speakers. Love have the effect of the movie theater at home. I will eventually upgrade to a 7.1 system for even great life like sound. For the money this is good deal.
