Customers frequently mention issues with the tracking system, citing inconsistencies and difficulties in low-light conditions. High price point is another recurring concern, with some users feeling the cost doesn't justify the performance. Controller compatibility and comfort level were also cited as areas needing improvement. Several users reported difficulties with compatibility with certain laptops and games.

Using Oculus Rift CV for 2yrs, liked the specs for Cosmos in spite of reported problems (I use it mainly for flight sims so most didn't apply to my intended use), well, purchase thru BestBuy was flawless, item was fine until I tried to install it!, good luck if you follow the instructions as the guide got me no where, better luck if u look for help from HTC's "online help service, chat", set up 4 times, basically was told shut off virus (Windows Defender in my case) which I had already done, then was told to shut off firewall, which I did, neither accomplished anything, twice I lost connection w/Chat and to reopen, reps were very courteous and nice but basically offered NO useful help or assistance whatsoever, after giving up w/them I finally found a way to get HTC's software installed (which had been the original problem to this point) which was not how the "guide" said to do it nor was it listed, shown, written or suggested anywhere or by anyone I "chatted" with, once the software was finally installed it picked up the headset but would never get thru the "setup" procedure it kept saying the controllers needed an update, first R then L, ran thru the update, it said update successful, then would restart and say the same thing, controllers & then headset needed an update, back and forth about 15 times, all "successful" updates according the software, finally got to the setup, turn on controllers, push button, lights on, then blinking, then off, controller couldn't b found, then update again, then couldn't find other controller, then no video, then update again, then turn on controller, finally got a hazy ghostlike image on the headset and the screen to adjust PID, as soon as I let the controller go to do the manual PID adjustment everything goes back out, can't find the controller again!, on and on over and over, after about 7 1/2hrs of this BS I reboxed everything, deleted HTC's software (which I installed, deleted, installed again about 5 times at "chat's" request) & decided to go back to my old Oculus, plugged in worked perfectly in about 10mins. Also be aware that if you uninstall HTC's software from your system using their uninstaller make sure you do a manual search afterwards as I found HTC crap all over 2 SSD's after I had deleted it!, manually deleted the remains of HTC's software, shot off a message to HTC support via email about the problems and advising that I was returning the set to BestBuy. Again, the return of the set to BestBuy was handled perfectly and the return/credit took about 10mins in the store and that was that. Later that day I did get a very courteous reply from HTC support asking if it would be possible to set up an "assist" session to try and get it installed, if this had been suggested or offered b "live chat online support" even if I was told it would have to be next day it would have been acceptable & I would have given it a shot but I advised them since I had received virtually no useful assistance from live online support over about 5-6hrs and the poor experience I had w/their software as explained above I had already returned the Cosmos and would now be purchasing an Oculus S. Bottom line, all the problems I had read in other reviews, I experienced, the software is a total mess, guides/instructions all wrong, misleading and virtually nonexistent, online support is totally useless, very nice, courteous etc but NO help at all. The headset was totally uncomfortable, the controllers wouldn't even stay on, overall it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had w/a tech item. I would not recommend this item in any way shape or form, stay away, stay far far away!

I had problems just like everyone else has but now it seems to be working better with the updates. That being said everyone is freaking out too soon give it time to get all the kinks out the rift s had its problems too when it first came out. If I was someone looking to buy this I would do it. Try it yourself before judging it. I love mine the clarity is awesome although the sweet spot could be better.

Great Step Froward for VR

This system, despite the other reviews, is pretty good. I'm not going to knock this product because of an idealized vision of what VR should already be; there are a many reasons to buy the Cosmos. HTC, like all the other manufactures, are making incremental improvements every generation, not giant leaps. This system is a great step forward from the original Vive and Vive Pro.
The performance of the headset is great. The panel quality and clarity is also really good compared the Vive and Vive Pro. Gaming on it is fluid and you're going to appreciate the increased pixel density of the new screens. The inside out tracking is really nice and is on the same level as the Oculus Rift and Quest. After a few hours of game play, I couldn't perceive a difference between this system and my Vive which uses lighthouses. But if you prefer to play with the controllers behind your back, then you might have a problem.
If you want to do a wireless VR setup, then this is the obvious choice given that the wireless adaptor support will ship soon. For me, being able to use my wireless adaptor was a deciding factor between the Cosmos and the Index.
That being said there are some minor issues and most of them can be solved with software updates. For example, the headset does track well in low light, but it does give a warning too easily if you are playing in a darker room. I don't understand why anyone would want a bright room for VR, but HTC choose cameras that need better low light tracking. This I believe can be solved with software to a point.
The sweet spot on the lenses could be better, but I'm already getting used to how to look around and not lose focus. This can not be solved with software so if this is a problem for you, then I would try the Index or the Rift S and see which one feels better to you.

Buyer Beware Do Not Buy!!!

am completely baffled by how this even has 3 stars. The only positive thing about this headset is the screen resolution, which in the end doesn’t matter when none of the popular titles can be played on this headset.
I read the reviews before me and figured that my use for the headset wouldn’t require precision tracking and surely people are just picking at small issues. Sadly this isn’t the case. Vive built and sold this device with little to no testing or care for the consumer.
The device is unusable in the most popular vr titles such as half-life, onward, Arizona sunrise, Skyrim and many more. Anything that requires you to look down sights or place one hand in front of the other then it will not be playable on the cosmos.
I reach out to support and the answer I got was that this is the way it was designed because it’s inside out tracking. This makes no sense considering their competitors have managed make there devices work and can purchased for half the price.
Then the final straw is vive offersan external tracking plate to transform the vive cosmos from internal to external tracking which would resolve all the issues the current platform has, sounds like a fair compromise? Sure for $200 you can get the tracking plate, you will need two original vive controls $132 each, and 2 base stations $182 each which comes to a total of $836.
An additional $836 just to make the device work the way it should is ludicrous. I am researching to see if there is any recourse I may have in filing a report against the company. That is how bad it is.

Mediocre product - terrible company

Would not recommend. Sold mine, will look at getting a better headset in the future, but it definitely wont be from HTC.
Mediocre headset - uninspiring visuals compared to competitors. Novelty was great, inside out tracking made setup easier than others. Downsides - a bit heavy, not the most comfortable, becomes quite warm when wearing even for short sessions. Most importantly - I can never recommend a company that cares more about a quick buck than to do right.
It was more important to HTC/Vive that they keep the $13 from attempted cancellation of unintended auto-renewed subscription to a terrible platform based on a free promotional year that came with the headset than to do right by their customers. I had already gotten rid of the headset months ago, and cancelled just hours after I was notified the renewal happened, and raised a ticket help ticket immediately after. Have fun with your $13 HTC/Vive - you just lost a customer forever.
