loved the phone. everything was perfect until I went to webcam. tried 3 different apps including google duo, hangouts, tango, etc. it was all the same. If they fix the microphone by the speaker it will be great.

I purchased this phone not enough a month, now is already completed die, can't turn on the phone

This works more than i expected. Its worth the money. I was using samsung galaxy 3 earlier for the past 2 years before switching to this phone. I felt this phone is way better than samsung for its easy navigation,finger print unlocking. Its battery is long lasting , i charge on alternate days only. I also use the GPS that comes with it. I also compared with Iphone 6S screen and both this phone's screen and iphone 6 screen looked very similar. You get all the features for $200 which is worth the money. You will not be disappointed if you buy this phone. Pros:- 1. Easy Navigation. 2. Finger print unlocking 3. Screen look and feel , navigation same as Iphone 6 4. Long lasting battery than any other phone in market 5. Msg appears when a particular app uses more power 6.Camera senses the environment and flashes while taking picture if its dark Cons:- 1. Phone gets hot when you use the GPS for a 30 min drive 2. Does not have Ear plugs .Need to buy separately 3. Charger is not lengthy enough to connect to plugins when its not reachable

For the price this is an amazing phone. The EMUI skin isn't as bad as the online reviewers are stating, I think it's rather nice. The Snapdragon 616 does a good job of just getting things done with minor slow downs. The fingerprint sensor is an awesome feature and the overall build quality of the phone is pretty good. It doesn't have the heft of some metal built phones but to me that is a good thing. Marshmallow is rumored to be hitting this "soon". Good job Huawei.

I was looking for a decent 5.5 inch or larger phone to replace my IPhone 6. I started at the high end with a ZTE Axon 7, then a Moto X Pure, and now this very inexpensive phone.Surprisingly it does everything I want a smart phone to do at at least half the price. Something I can't always say about the others. I needed: -5.5 inch at least 1080P -Fingerprint Scanner -Voice command with Google Now comparable to Siri. -Ability to connect to my car via BT AND stream audio -SD Card slot and Plug and Play MTP with my computer to sync music. -Fast charging. So heres the good news. It does all that and more. The sync software that comes on the phone (HiSuite) allows you to manage video and pictures, update firmware, and sync with Outlook Contacts and Calendar. It even finds and merges duplicates. Like most Android 6 you can choose the USB to be charge, pictures, or files which sees it as an MTP device and allows you to sync with any of the good sync programs like MediaMonkey. You can also just take your card put it in an adaprer and drag and drop all your music. Windows will convert. I managed to get 2200 on my phone. The albums,cover art, and artist and order all moved over just fine. The fingerprint scanner does work for other progams like LastPass and can be customized to use as swipe gestures. Overall it just does everything well. The BAD news: -It does it well but very slowly, The 2GB ROM, paltry 16MB RAM, and pitiful Snapdragon 616 mean the phone is slow and apps do NOT snap open. Even Facebook thinks about 5-8 seconds. -Also Huauwei chose to disable one of the best parts of Android 6, adoptable storage. You cannot add memory to the OS by expanding it with an SD card. Having used it in other phones it really helps. Nope to get this working you have to root the phone and do other mods that can brick your phone. -I also said fast charging and its more like medium. It cannot use Qualcomm QC 2.0 or 3.0 which charges phone in about 40 minutes. It can however accept higher amperage so a good QC3 or 2 or IQ charge charger will take the 4 hour charge time down to a couple. Still not great, Battery life is one day with BT and wi-fi on so it's a charge all night process. Using Perfomance or Smart power options, your looking at 20 hours from full charge. -The OS from Huauwei EMUI is pretty bad. No app drawer. Ugly. Slow. You can switch to Google or Nova Launcher. If you start with the former you can import the setting into Nova. OVERALL-- It is what it is for me, A $158 Android 6.0 phone that does what the much more expensive ones do and sometimes more. It requires tweaking to make notifications appear in lock screen and to speed up apps. Also for no apparent reason it would absolutely not restore this phone from any previous configuation the was backed up to google play. The minute I logged in Google it should have asked me if I wanted to restore from another phone (there are two profiles). Yes backup and restore was turned on. Nope wouldn't do it or do so in the store. I had to restore programs one by one. Pretty tedious. So not perfect but the BEST budget phone!

I have been using the Honor 5 for about 10 days now and overall am very happy with it. Here are some observations & suggestions for a new buyer. Also, just an FYI, I am a pretty basic user. I need a phone for internet, email, texting and phone service only. I don’t take selfies, stream video or audio so I am not a good judge of this phone’s capabilities if those things are important to you. Some thoughts: 1) I bought my phone at Best Buy. None of the reps knew anything about it and tried to sell me other phones. Do your research before you go in. I had to go to 2 stores to get a phone. None of the reps at Best Buy knew that they even handled this phone. 2) Because the Best Buy I went to had a limited supply, I had only one color choice, silver. That was fine with me, but you may want something else. If you buy through a local store, check with them first. 3) My phone did not come with a manual. You will probably have to download it from Huawei’s web site. No big deal, but the manual is very helpful, especially if you are new to smart phones. 4) The charger supplied is a basic 1 amp charger which is pretty slow. I upgraded to a 2 amp charger which I got at Best Buy for about $25.00. You may also want to buy a charger to use in your car which you can get at Best Buy. These are universal chargers and can be used with any number of smart phones. 5) The phone does not come with head phones or ear buds. 6) Best Buy does not stock any of the protective screens or cases for the Honor 5. You will have to find them locally through a specialty store or order through Amazon, which is what I did. 7) I have ATT service. I had to buy a new SIMS card to fit the phone. My old one did not work. That was another $10.00 or so. I hope this helps. Again, I am very happy with the phone and for the price it does a nice job. Good luck.

I did not want to pay $500+ for a smart phone anymore and found this one under $200. It has a nice snapdragon 8 core cpu, 16 gb storage and accepts up to 128 gb sd card. Has a very nice camera and has a fingerprint sensor too. Only this I wish it had was NFC to use with android pay

I was looking for a decent phone without spending too much. I think $700 for a phone is just insane. An article about modestly priced phones led me to the Honor 5X and let me tell you that I am extremely happy with this phone. Surfing, Apps, Maps, everything runs smoothly. I have had no disappointments with this phone. IMO you can't get any better value for the price. The fact that I could just go to my local Best Buy and pick it up is just sweet icing on the cake.

This phone is good compare to it's price. Nice outlook and works fine for day to day phone works. Camera performance is quite good.

All things being equal, the 5x is a nice device for the price. Metal construction, good camera and screen. Even the much maligned EMUI is a pleasant experience. It is unfortunate then that Huawei hobbled this device with its total lack of software support. Although it is a year old, it will forever be stuck with Android Marshmallow. The $59 Metro PCS LG Aristo is rocking Nougat by golly. As far as security patches, nothing since May with nothing in sight per their tech support. This is totally unacceptable for a year old phone. Huawei has abandoned the Honor 5x and so should you. If you want to roll the dice, buy the 6x for a few dollars more and enjoy your one year of support. Beware of shiny things lol

I did a good bit of research before buying this phone and am really glad that I did. The reviews convinced me to buy this phone and it was the right choice for me. Out of the box it came with Lollipop, but less than 5 minutes after turning it on, it was downloading and installing Marshmallow. The fingerprint scanner works better than I expected. I have had the phone just over 10 days now and am really happy with it. It works fast and has given me no problems. The battery lasts well with about 50% remaining after a day of fairly constant use.

This device is amazing. Great camera, I love the UI which I understand isn't for everyone, great battery life. The only thing is I wish there were more themes for the skin, but that's a minor issue. Seriously though, great work. This is my second Huawei device, first being the p8 lite. This is such a great device for the price.

Unlike most of the reviewers, I haven't had a lot of smartphones. And my old 2 gig 4.1 Jelly Bean Alcatel was very problematic from day one. So I wanted something with lots of memory, lots of RAM, great photo resolution and fully updated to the latest O/S. Plus, I wasn't sure if this phone would work on my Straight Talk account. But holy smokes, Batman! I hit the jackpot with this baby. While it may be a step down for some folks, it's a HUGE STEP UP for those of us who have been limping along on our old and tired phones. It's sleek, slim, polished and has more bells and whistles than any moderate smartphone user could want, at a decent price. I thought the EMUI format might be difficult to adapt to, but I was able to easily arrange everything just the way I wanted it in a matter of an hour. True, the volume is low. But that's a minor complaint considering the long line of plus signs that come with this phone. It was so inexpensive, but I feel like I just entered the same territory as those who are spending the big bucks. Even my sister, who updates to a Samsung Galaxy (whatever #) every year, is eyeing it with serious intent. Plus, Kudos to Stephen in the West Palm Beach (Palm Beach Lakes) Best Buy store for his great service. He did just about everything for me that he could -- from breaking the lock on the cabinet that held MY phone when the key broke off in the lock, to transferring and downloading every bit of data from my old phone that he could get his hands on. He was wonderful. AND - for all you Straight Talk folks out there - here's a tip: Straight Talks DOES NOT PROVIDE O/S UPDATES ON THEIR PHONES. If you buy Jelly Bean 4.1, you're stuck with it forever. However, when you switch to an Honor 5 phone, the updates bypass your carrier. That means your phone will serve you well for a lot longer than otherwise. Hope you all get a little something out of this review, especially those of you who are stuck with an outdated phone and feel that you have very few options to update to an INEXPENSIVE BUT REALLY COOL PHONE WITH ALL BELLS AND WHISTLES PHONE!

Purchased on sale, this is probably the greatest value on an unlocked, dual sim phone. It works perfectly with both my providers. I can easily switch which sim I want to use for 4g. Swapping my primary sim as the 4g will provide the best signal reception. It works well with Android Auto, but be aware that if you update to Android 6.0.1 Android Auto may not work properly. It's a known issue. You can easily go back to 5.1.1 but it will wipe your phone of all personal data and apps. Use the pre-installed back up app to back every thing up to your external SD card and you'll have no worries. You can restore everything from your backup.

Nice Phone for the price. I was considering this and Nexus 5x (2 budget phones with fingerprint scanners). I got this one because it was in stock at best buy. The Huawei UI takes a little while getting used to. But it is not bad. The only two problems I have faced until now( 2 weeks since purchase) 1. camera under low light is ordinary 2. the GPS sometimes keeps searching. Have to turn off and on GPS to make it work. Otherwise great budget phone. no issues.

I purchased this phone from Best Buy in Arlington TX in August 2016 when it was on sale. It has been worth every penny. You pretty much get most of the high end features of the other phones for a 1/3 of the price. Pros: -Gorgeous 5.5 inch screen -2GB of RAM - super fast phone. Lightning quick. -Metal body -Fingerprint reader, also super fast. -Clean Lines -More bang for your buck -"Interesting" UI (Android fans who own this phone now exactly what I mean. It took me about a week to master, but I love the UI now. It is one of the most intuitive UI's I have used on Android, which tends to give a clunky user experience in general, but not on this phone). -Highly customizable OS. No worry about rooting or other nonsense, just boot up and go. Cons: -None worth mentioning, but it only comes in 16GB with no expandable memory. I don't care because I am a cloud storing kind of person and I don't download many games or apps, but for some of you 16GB might not be enough. But for 90% of people, 16GB seems to be good. It does not come with a SIM, but I purchased a 3 in 1 T-Mobile SIM from Best Buy as well for 5 bucks. Very easy to install (use the micro SD for data and talk), ported my number in one hour.

I never knew about Huawei products until I purchase their fitness watch. The watch worked so well that I decided to try their unlocked Honor 5X. This phone has a great battery life and is feature rich (with a price that is under $200.00)! The build of the phone is solid. If you're looking for a quality Android based phone that is sub $200.00; The Huawei Honor 5X is your phone. The only issue is that this phone is not sold in all stores (but you can order it online).

This phone has a nice screen, nice feel and looks good too. It performs very well, better than a $200 "locked" phone will, that is for sure. Pros; Finger print scanner is excellent! Can be upgraded to Android 6.0 for free. Screen looks good, nice automatic wifi (automatically turns on wifi when I'm at home). It's light. Has dual sim cards. Speakers work pretty good. Cons; Slow battery charging. It doesn't have quick charge and has a large battery, so a few hrs of charging to bring it back to full. One piece design....no removable battery cover. This version of Android is a little "off". It doesn't have an app directory like most (all other?) phones, but once you figure out the file system, it works well enough.

It's over. Think Kasparov vs. Deep Blue. Lee vs. Alpha Go. Huawei has entered the market and traditional smartphone makers should take notice. How does a company sell a phone with similar specs as another phone for half the price? By ignoring the premium on design, which in the end is unnecessary.

It pains me to give the Huawei 5x a poor rating. I've used this handset as my primary device for about 6 months, and found it quite competent, particularly after receiving the Marshmallow update. It is elegant looking and one would not feel embarrassed pulling it out in the company of more expensive devices. Here is the rub though. There is always a rub. Over the holidays I slept in a covered out door patio and left the phone on the table, in a case, next to me. In the morning a thin film of moisture appeared on the 5x, and on my Moto G4 sitting next to it. Incredibly that rendered it inoperable. No problems with the Moto. An exchange with the folks at Huawei/Honor confirmed that I now have a beautiful silver paperweight, as that is not covered by warranty. Although I have enjoyed my time with it, I can't recommend a device this delicate. The Moto G4 Plus may not be as attractive, but is a more durable, practical purchase. RIP my little friend.
