this is the worst refrige i have ever had.
Just got it for a week. ice in the frige not the freezer
builds up about a quarter inch thick covering About 10 inch by 24 inch
area. Am i supposed to do the
defrost every week? talked to a best buy salesman.
he said turn the temp to 1 (out of 7 ). it does not help.
it has to be returned. i gave the delivery man $30 tip because
he said it is holiday and needs to bring food to the table
although best buy promises to deliver it for free.
now i have to tip the dlivery again.
the worst is that i have to wait for hours for them to come
if they take it back.

OK for off grid use

I bought this unit to use in an off grid cabin with limited solar electric. The two factors that made me choose this were that it did not have auto defrost and no electronics to run the unit - just a thermostat to turn it on and off. The unit is cheaply built and a bit tippy but better than I expected for the money. The best thing about it is that because it is a non-electronic unit, it still works well when my outback fx is set to search mode. It uses about 800 watts on a normal day. Considering that the energy star units and auto defrost units generally won't work well in search mode, it probably uses less electricity that some of the more efficient units when you factor in inverter overhead. Even if this unit does fail after a few years, at this price you can buy about 7 of them for the price of a new propane refrigerator.

Icy fridge, faulty gasket
Posted .

This review is for anyone who has purchased or is considering purchasing this product. I wish I could reply to some of the reviews of other customers with the same problem of the back wall of the fridge's interior freezing over, despite defrosting it and rearranging, etc. I've been dealing with an ever growing wall of ice, since the last defrost a year ago when I accidentally ice picked a hole in the plastic trying to expedite the ice removal, voiding my warranty.
Popular mechanics' website had this to say though: "This can be the result of a leaking door gasket. The gasket allows the cold air to constantly seep out, making the refrigerator run overtime and produce extra chill in the freezer. Check the gasket by placing a high-power flashlight or emergency battery-powered light unit in the freezer with the beam pointed at the door. Turn the light off in the kitchen and check around the perimeter of the door. If there is any light leakage, you'll need to replace the gasket, which can be purchased directly from the manufacturer or from large-appliance retailers."
Sure enough, light leak. I've always suspected it was a bad seal there but I didn't do anything to test it. Anyhow, by pulling the gasket out of the plastic groove in the door in the corner where the leak was I have achieved a proper seal for the first time in 2 years! No light leak, and maybe my problem will be solved. This would make my misfortune your lesson. Just do the light test when you first get the fridge and replace the gasket or do my poor man's method.

Don't buy this fridge

Yes it's cheap. (That's why I bought it!) but even the 5 star reviews mention the fact that fridge part is immediately covered in ice within 2 hours of turning it on. It's unusable. There are frozen puddles so big you could go ice skating in there right now.
Even within your 14 day or whatever window, best buy makes it next to impossible to get a replacement. I've been hung up on multiple times, given the wrong information, told it was a manufacturer issue (it's not, but the way) and was just now informed that they've lost all records of the replacement delivery I had scheduled for tomorrow.
Seriously, the fridge is useless, and the customer service is somehow worse. Save yourself the headache and buy something (anything) else.

Good when you're on a budget

Got it when it was on sale for $199. It's ok when you're on a budget (like we were because we didn't expect a robbery) but I definitely wouldn't pay full price for it. It doesn't have frost free feature, so you have to work with it to prevent the frost from building up or from streaming down the back of the fridge. I've had it for a month and I'm still trying to find my happy medium. Drinks are chilled, but not cold like I'm used to. The freezer is about 1/2 what you would expect from a full size fridge, but it meets our purposes for time being and we can still get a few days of meats in there. One downside is the seal doesn't seem to stay shut - we have to prop something in front of it to keep the seal tight - once in a while we find the thing open. It's really not a bad unit, but as I said before, I wouldn't pay more than than $199 we got it for.

A lot of noise for the money - refrigerator
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I guess when a 10 cubic foot refrigerator is only $199, one might expect something less than ideal. This Igloo is very noisy, and according to the website, seems to be a discontinued model. I called the manufacturer, whose agent explained how to essentially "reboot" it. Result? Still very noisy. Sounds like someone with really bad indigestion. Next step will be to call the manufacturer again. They have already told me my next recourse is to contact Best Buys. In the past, Best Buys has not been very helpful in replacing unsatisfactory merchandise. Often, the line to return items is longer than the line to buy items at the store where I shop. What does that tell you? I will give them the benefit of the doubt and see if they will play fair.

Broke After 2 Years and Never Met Expectations
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
You buy a small secondary refrigerator in many cases to handle drinks and to serve as an overflow from the main refrigerator. In this case, the drinks NEVER got nearly as cold as we would have preferred. Similar to other posts, there was always a huge chunk of ice that built up in the back of the refrigerator even though it was never cold enough.
Now, after barely two years the whole thing just stopped working and it is almost impossible to get anyone online or via call center to provide you with any details regarding troubleshooting or even potential part numbers. They just referred me to the "online stores" none of which know anything about this product. This product is a total waste of money and if I were IGLOO, I would NOT want my name on this product.

I purchased this fridgerator aprox 1 year ago at BB on sale. I was very skeptical about purchasing due to all of the very negative reviews. Im not sure what people are wanting for this price point? Ive stored it in the garage the whole time as a secondary fridger/freezer. It has frozen up one time during the winter...but only because i didnt adjust the temp when it was very cold outside. All in all Im 100% happy with my purchase. If your expecting luxury fridge for this price point youll be dissappointed, but if you want something simple to keep things cold...this does the job no probs.

Purchased a year and half ago despite some of the negative reviews. It keeps the food cold and frozen. Ices up some in the freezer; not too bad. Unfortunately, it stopped working. All that is needed is a new thermostat. Be patient and work with their less than stellar customer service and you will get up and going again. I know, it shouldn't break after a year. The thermostat part is WDF-25B-N. Cheers.

The first one I bought was kinda banged up - already rusting in areas, bent adjustable foot peg. I returned it without any problems and the 2nd one I got was great. It does get an ice build-up on the inner, back wall but its easy to wipe down if you keep on top of it. Fridge gets nice and cold and has plenty of room for a secondary fridge. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase.

We needed a small full refrigerator with freezer for our smaller kitchen. This is good enough for 2 people students or couple and hasn't had any issues so far. I recommend this to everyone. Doesn't take much space and fits into a tiny corner.

I got what I paid for

Reading at the reviews I realize that I had an ok expereince. The refrigerator actually managed to keep food cold during the winter when the temperature of the apt I am renting out is in the mid 60s. Summer comes, it's a different story. Apt temperature is in the high 70s, refrigerator temperature is in the high 40s. It's been running like this for 1.5yrs. If tenant was not complaining i would not switch but I do not live there, so I do not have to deal with grocery shopping almost every day.
So, I paid $200, I got something out of it, but wish it had been better quality. Now I need to get rid of the old refrigerator and get a new one. Not an Igloo one.

Got this at a great price and it was the perfect size for a second refrigerator/freezer to hold drinks and other items, especially after making a big grocery shopping trip. But condensor stopped working almost exactly 2 years after purchase. If you buy this I recommend getting the extended warranty along with it.

Bought this a little over a year ago, wish I had held off and bought a different brand. The refrigerator looks nice, but every time the power blinks it quits cooling until I unplug it for several hours. Not great for my food, especially if I'm not around when it happens. Of course by the time it did it the first time the warranty was gone. Huge waste of money.
