I bought this, loving it at first because it was the cheapest upright freezer style with the shelves. However, after 10 months, it started to get cool and not keeping food frozen just cold. I called about the warranty and was told to unplug it, shut it off, turn it to the coldest setting and then plug it back in. Did that and it did nothing. Then was told to defrost it for a day and re-try. Did that and still didn't work. When I tired to get it repaired under the warranty, I got the run around. After several phone calls and messages left, I now have a huge paperweight in my basement!!
I recommend going with a different brand, Igloo is HORRIBLE to deal with! OR buy the extra Geek Squad Warranty if you really want this product!

Upright freezer, works well. A great price. In the two weeks that I have owned the it, I have been very happy with the freezer, light-weight. Easy to follow set-up instructions.

I purchased this freezer, mainly because it was a bit smaller and still an upright. Igloo is a brand that has been around for a long time, so I thought it was a good investment. HOWEVER, the freezer totally died after about 6 months, leaving me with an entire freezer full of spoiled food. I called the manufacturer to complain and found out IGLOO did NOT make the freezer, a distributor did. Therefore, the IGLOO brand name has nothing to do with the product. I did speak with someone at the manufacturer's office, who treated me like I was stupid. He suggested I make sure the freezer was plugged in. I suggested back to him that the freezer was plugged it- the motor had died. Huge waste of my time talking to them.

Bought this freezer trying to replace a power hog I had for many years. Brought it home, took 24 hrs to get mildly cold. Finally, 48 hrs later very cold. 9 months later go to get food from freezer...all gone! Freezer quit working. $375 worth of food gone. Called Igloo - they don't make this product they only BRAND IT. Informed by Igloo (quite rudely# to contact the maufacturer in Canada by the name of Curtis International. Call CI - they too are really rather rude. Advise me that to get warranty work done or replacement I have to MAIL THE FREEZER TO CANADA! Do what?! Tried to get higher up at CI and at Igloo to no avail. Actaully, the more I tried to get help the more rude they became. Wrote to BB to see if I could get help from them #that is who I bought it from)- only received an e mail that said to go to the FAQ online. NOT a good answer. I tried calling BB but had to wait so long I had to hang up to go to an appointment. Plan on going to the BB where I bought this peice of no good. Hopefully the store manager will do something - like replace it or give me credit for it.

I read the reviews, I hoped that others perhaps just got a defective one. If you choose to forgo my review, don't be stupid and not buy the warranty....it's only $21.99 for it. We brought it home one Sunday and the following Sunday opened the door and discovered ALOT of our frozen meat was nearly unthawed. Horrible that we had ALOT of food we had to throw away. Igloo has too many bad reviews on this freezer, they should either fix their problem or stop selling this product. Fortunately, our local Best Buy were super and we took it back within 30 minutes and got a box freezer for about the same price by Frigidaire.

Overall the freezer does the job

So I have had my freezer for a few months now and it is still working. I assume that is a good thing since a lot of reviews point out it broke in the first few months. I still bought the 2yr protection just in case. The part that sucked is that when I unboxed it the bottom of the freezer door was dented in. The only reason I didn't return it is because I need it to freeze food not look pretty out in the garage. The dent is the reason for 3 stars. Best Buy or customers may want to consider unboxing and looking at the product before you leave the store.

More room than you'd think

We fit a lot more in this freezer than I thought we would. I think the description says 3 shelves, but it has 4 shelves and you can use the bottom as another shelf. Being upright makes it a lot easier to find stuff than if it were a chest. There's no defrost feature, but it's pretty easy to defrost it yourself. The temperature adjustment is just one dial, that doesn't let you nitpick the temp too much. Overall, this is a great freezer and I hope Igloo makes a bigger one by the time we grow out of this one.

This freezer takes up very little floor space but holds quite a lot. It's great for stocking up on items when they're on sale. Lots of usable space inside.

Worked good first two months. Though I could trust it started stocking it with meat after the third month it stopped working. Guess I can put it out in the garage and use it as a storage cabinet or give it to my worst enemy as a Birthday present that way I don't have to pay for disposal fee.

Picked it up, let it sit a day unplugged, plugged it in at noon.. 9 pm it is coated with frost, tho no food has been put in it yet. Frost is uneven, more near where door opens, there is heat on sides near there too. Freezer is totally level.. fails the dollar bill gap test.. =(((
This is FAR too much frost for the first day, and all around the seal..
What a waste of time and money.

I purchased this freezer as extra freezer space for my daughter and her roommates. The original freezer was purchased end of May 2013. Out of the box, the seal felt weak and crimped in one spot. We were hoping setting it up and getting it running would help the seal relax and take shape. It never did. Upon return from summer vacation, the freezer was completely iced over. Geek squad was called and a replacement freezer was delivered in August. The replacement freezer never froze. Geek squad was called again and the second replacement freezer was delivered at the beginning of September. The freezer froze for 4 days then quit. After 3 attempts with this product and losing food each time, I am so done! I understand that Best Buy did not manufacture this product. I am thankful that I purchased the protection plan and that Best Buy has informed me of the Food Spoilage Claim form to help recoup some of my loss.

I bought specifically because of measurement specifications. When I unboxed and tried to put in place , it was 6 inches taller than all information given. Would not fit. I had to keep because I needed freezer immediately. I am now going to have to make some major changes to be able to place it where it needs to go.

This freezer kept things cold, but the frost buildup was significant, and after about 10 months we had to defrost the inside because there was no more room for frozen goods.
We followed the instructions for defrosting, but it never worked again. By the time we figured out that it was actually broken, we were a week outside of warranty and now have a 6.9 cu ft brick that will cost $50 to dispose of.
I strongly recommend that you spend the extra it costs to get a name brand freezer with a real warranty.

We wanted a basic freezer for storing extra meats and things. A stand-up unit worked for the space we had better than a chest version. This one won't wow you, but it does the job.

Just what we needed, until 1.5 years, quit working

We purchased the freezer because we wanted a low-cost, upright freezer for a specific small garage space. This freezer was just what we wanted, with low cost, relatively small freezer space, upright profile. The freezer is manual defrost, and its shelves carry the cooling to the unit. There is no light. This is defnitely freezing at its most basic, no frills. But, that was what we wanted. So, we were happy....happy until 15.5 months of use, when it began to sometimes freeze, sometimes not freeze. After a complete failure, operaitng at best at warm refrigerator temps, we gave up and tossed the unti to the trash. Clearly, at this price, repair wasn't a cost effective option -- just a service call would be half the price of the new freezer. So, nice little unit, but 1.5 years and it quits...worthy of only 1 star, in my books.

If you buy this freezer, be prepared to defrost it every 2-3 months. Also, be prepared to throw it away within two years. That's what I'll be doing with mine this weekend (23 months after I plugged it in.)

ZERO STARS, But Black Tie & BB Saved The Day

Purchased 1st unit 2-26-2012, got it home, un-boxed and appears to have been dropped in shipping (repeatedly) ( missing handle & manual ), brought it back to store (heavy - it is a freezer after all). They had to order a new one. About a week later, we got a call and email saying the replacement was in... cool! Went to pick it up, un-boxed it in store to check for damage. Looked good also was in a large plastic bag and had a handle, manual and an "Energy" sticker ( missing from first unit ~ makes us think the first was more or less a used unit ). Got it home, got it into position and waited like the instructions say ( we actually waited 24 hours ) and then plugged it in. Worked just great from March 11th 2012 to May 22nd 2012, than it started to get warm. It went from about -5F to eventually +40F. we took everything out and saved what little we could. Threw out a couple hundred dollars worth of meat. No worries, we have a "Black Tie Service Agreement". Called them yesterday ( 5-29-2012 ) and they said that they would call back. They did not. No big deal. We called them again today ( 5-30-2012 ) ( very pleasant and professional to talk to) and they said that there were no service providers in our area and offered to put us in direct contact with the manufacturer ( Curtis International, not Igloo ). They transfered us to Curtis and the representative told us to unplug it for a couple of hours. We had already unplugged it for over 20 hours and then plugged it back in. No luck... and no freezing in the freezer. The Curtis rep than said that we would need to mail it to them for repairs (Wait, WHAT?!). Are you kidding me? Called Best Buy back and they said that they would look for another service option. I am done with Igloo ( Curtis International ). I do not know what is actually broken but, the compressor says it was made by "LG" ( Lucky Goldstar ) a brand we try to avoid due to past experiences. Avoid this brand ( Curtis International & Igloo ) at all cost. Black Tie was the saving grace on this one. Went in to BB and pleaded my case to a very nice and understanding manager and they took it back. Went and bought a "real freezer" ( 13.7 Cu Ft Kenmore made by GE $439.99 "on sale") ( GE Version "on sale" at BB for $535.99 ) and it actually works. Go figure. It is 2012, how hard can it be to design and build a reliable freezer? Long story short.... Best Buy + Black Tie = good, Curtis International + Igloo = BAD!

The freezer had a broken bolt when we took it out of the box. No big deal right just find a similar bolt. Well it was the one to hold on the door and was not one you could find at the hardware store. We called the company and they said they couldnt just send us a new bolt, so we had to bring the whole freezer back less than 30 minutes after bringing it home. It was very disappointing. The product has no quality.

I purchased this freezer for my wife. We are on a budget and I thought this would make a good addition to our appliances. After I bought it and got it in place, I couldn't get it to work for the life of me. I returned it to Best Buy for another one and it works GREAT! I would have ranked it higher if it wern't for the hassle of the dud. Needless to say, the wife is extreamly happy and so am I. Good product!
