Customers consistently note the 12-sheet Diamond-Cut Paper Shredder's quiet operation, with many praising its low noise level. However, some users experienced limitations with the shredding capacity, reporting challenges when shredding larger volumes of paper at once and slower-than-expected performance. A few customers found the machine's capacity insufficient for their needs. The large capacity bin also presented a space constraint for some users.

We had a good run...

It was well worth the money at first. Very quiet and the bin was large enough for shredding paper around the house. The bin had a semi clear front so you know if it needed to be emptied. It was able to shred credit cards and CDs as well.
About a week after the warranty expired, the shredder would easily overheat...had to wait until it cooled down to continue shredding. Next thing I know, the paper kept getting jammed or it would pull down at an angle and kept getting stuck. I found out that a small piece of the metal roller got bent. Kind of funny considering how I always take out any staples before shredding it, so the rollers had no excuse!
It was good at first, but now, I wished I had saved that money and bought another brand.

Not an office product, excellent for the home.

There is a reason that there are such things as professional shredding services. This can handle 12 sheets of pretty standard printer paper not a problem, and yes the motor bogs down when you put 12 sheets in. Its an electric motor and that is how they work. If you are a lawyer trying to offload your files this is not a good product for that purpose. At home when you want to shred bills and the such, this is an excellent shredder. It can handle credit cards, cd's, and staples with ease. I tend to pass about 4-5 sheets at a time through and it handles them wonderfully.
It does a diamond shape cut. Not sure what else people are looking for here. If you want something 100% destroyed throw it in the fireplace.
The basket is large and can handle a good amount of shredding. Spent about an hour shredding bills and documents (not constant but with maybe 15-30 secs between shreds) and it handled it fine with no overheating or jamming. Also an excellent note is that when you pull the basket out there tends to be very little left hanging and it all stays in the basket so there is almost no leftover diamonds floating about. Very easy to empty.

Quality Disappointing for a Pricey Item

I was surprised by the bad quality of the container (the basket that holds the shredded paper) - it's a very light plastic that feels like I can crush or bend it from just handling it (and I have small weak hands). After having used a solid Staples shredder (solid, hard plastic container) that I paid less money for, I expected better quality overall of this entire Init shredder for the expensive price. The top part (the motor) is very heavy so I am not sure how that will work on top of the weak plastic container. I didn't trust that it would work so I immediately returned the Init shredder to the store without using it. It looked and felt too cheap for $114.
To be clear, my review is not about usage since I never used the item (hence I could not give good rating regarding effectiveness, ease of use and reliability), but my review is about my dissatisfaction and disappointment with the look and feel (question sturdiness) of the unit for the expensive price. I searched and purchased another space saving shredder for less money with better features - and it has a solid, sturdy plastic container and operational features that I am, so far, pleased with and expect for the price.

BASKET FULL SENSOR PROBLEM!!!!!!!

I just returned the original one i bought a month ago because out of nowhere the basket full light would go on and you cant shred nothing, even after emptying the little paper that was in the basket and checking for stuck paper the basket full light would be on and opening and closing the catch basket would sometimes fix it or unplugging it would sometimes make the light disappear. After getting the exchanged shredder home which was the last one on the shelf the basket light still went on out of nowhere after being plugged in for 10 minutes and on auto. The shredder works fine and nice and quiet but for this to be the best shredder best buy offers and most expensive they need to contact the manufacturer and get this fixed. seems like its an ongoing thing im going to see how long this one will last and exchange it again if it continues

Our old shredder bit the dust so I spent over $100 hoping for something more reliable and higher quality. Time will tell, I suppose. In the meantime, I'm pleased with how quiet this unit is. It pulls the paper through more slowly than our last one, but that's only an issue if you save up a large mount of material to shred. The waste basket slides out easily for emptying, which is great. Unfortunately, for as much space as the entire machine takes up, I had hoped for a larger capacity.
I would have rated it higher for ease of use, but the paper needs to be pushed far down the slot before the machine grabs it (probably a safety feature). This made the work of shredding old check carbons more difficult because of their small size and the flimsiness of the paper. The resulting paper shreds from this machine are a bit larger than what was produced by our last one, but not large enough to concern me. It handles 10 sheets easily.
The cutting teeth don't look particularly beefy, but since I just bought it, I'll reserve judgment. I hope to get at least 10 years of use form this shredder to justify the expense.

For $109, I expected a high speed, industrial strength shredder. What I got was a weak sister that shreds for a few minutes, overloads, then needs at least 20 minutes to cool down and reset itself.
In all fairness, I've been shredding years worth of bills, pay stubs and statements. It says it will shred 12 pages at a time, by my experience is that even one page every two seconds is enough to make it overheat after about five minutes, then it needs at least 20 minutes to cool down and reset. I thought it was a flaw, and took it back for an exchange, but the other did just the same.
The large, 4.5 gallon capacity means it takes a lot of space in the office. It's very quiet, for sure. I wouldn't recommend this shredder for any jobs larger than shredding a handful of paper each day, if you have lots of room to store it.

Worked for several months. Now has to be replaced

After owning and using this shredder for several months, it seemed to be running slower. I took the head off and looked at it and saw that at one end the metal cutters and nylon rollers are all bent. After pulling out the residue stuck in the head, I did not see anything that made me think the wrong material was being shredded.
It was fine while it lasted. It just didn't last long enough.

Diamond Cut is not secure enough.

I needed a good shredder that would make my personal docs unreadable and this was my hope for this one after trying several others. After shredding some bank docs, i could clearly read enough of my account #'s to be able to put sensitive data together. It's going back to Best Buy today. I guess you get what you pay for and while this was $120.00 it wasn't worth a dime since it didn't do what I needed. Back to trying other machines for home office use.

I wanted a shredder with a pull out basket so that there would be less mess when emptying the machine. The basket pulls out easily, there's a window to let you know how much paper is in the basket, plus there is "Basket Full" warning light.
I started shredding one sheet at a time which was no problem for the machine, but when I got to six sheets, the machine stopped working. It got confused because the Basket Full and Overload lights came on, but the basket was not full. I ended up lifting the head off and plucking out paper from the cutting teeth. I was quite disappointed by the operation right out of the box.
I then restarted the testing process and got the machine to take up to 12 sheets at once. While it shredded the 12 sheets, it also was struggling to do so. You could hear the motor straining. I had a bunch of paper to shred and only put six sheets in at a time. I did about 250-300 sheets with no problem so I'm hoping the machine will continue to be reliable.
Besides an easy-to-use basket, the machine is pretty quiet compared to other shredders that I've used.

Silent but deadly

It is a very attractive unit that looks great in contrast to our hard wood floors. It is very quiet when running. My girlfriend was pretty surprised when I showed her (yeah, I know, kinda dorky). It has a real solid feel to it. The slider switch doesn't seem cheap like I read in a previous review (some other website). But really the most important thing is that it does what it says.
After using this shredder, good luck to the wannabe thief with putting these scraps back together.
I wouldn't buy it for $109 (or any shredder for that matter) but at $82, it is a great addition to an office. Or maybe as a replacement for your junk mail feeder.

Have used shredders for years, this is one of the fastest and quietest machines that I have ever used. It is fast with very little dust but still doing a great job. Its price was a helping factor in the purchase.

Very efficient and quiet. The diamond/oblong pieces are small and someone would have to have a LOT of time on their hands and be exceedingly patient to tape these bits back together. Another poster said they went ballistic when they saw the pieces were not the small confetti type they expected. This is why we read the specifications on the boxes! Another one who is a 'small business owner' also complained, once again read the product specifications. And I would think a business owner, no matter the size, would want the absolute best they can afford when it comes to shredders and destroying sensitive information.
The shredder is easily used with no forcing of paper through the grinding part. It's a good size but not gigantic that it gobbles up precious space. I'm quite pleased with my purchase and am happy with the size of the shreds produced by this machine.

I've only had this shredder a few days, but so far I have no complaints. It is very quiet. The basket holds a lot. I wish it shredded the pieces smaller, but it would be very hard for someone to try and put those puzzle pieces back together.

I should have taken my time to do more research before buying this product. According to the specs on the box I felt it would easily serve my needs. As a small business owner and needing to also shred sensitive personal mail/documents I've found that this isn't the product I needed.

I had a years worth of shredding & needed a larger shredder for my personal use, I purchased this one on sale. It's the best one I've ever used, it's ultra quiet,( that's a bonus because some are so LOUD). I was able to shred everything in one day.

I really don't write reviews, but I can't help but dispute some of the negative claims here. 1. The basket is pretty decent, not as flimsy as one claimed. 2 the Emergency stop feature is really nice especially with kids around. 3. You do have to press the papers in far to activate the machine, but after my 2 year old shredded something he shouldn't, it is a Nice feature! 3. It is actually stylish, 4. It is a wide diamond cut, but for someone to put things back together after you emptied a basket. Wow they need a lot of time...
I compared this to the top of the line fellows at Office Max and ended up with this. At $89 on sale, it is a fair price and I have been pretty satisfied so far.

I've had two of these shredders now and both times they have lasted for about six months before the knives bent and would no longer cut. I do not overfeed, shed items other than credit cards, CD's, and paper, and do not run it to the point when it overheats. Once the knives bend, they get clogged with paper until eventually you can no longer feed anything through the machine.

My father in law has one and works great so I decided to buy one for myself because before today I used to burn it all. And he enjoyed it very much and you don't have to force the paper in it. It's nice and smooth. Very good choice for the money!!

Highly Disapointed on the Cut, and Size of Shred

I was so happy when my shredder arrived! I have literally "boxes" of stuff that needs shredding. However... This is NOT the right printer for me. I wanted "diamond cut" shredding. To me, that means the folded, four pointed corner pieces. I'm sure most people know what that is. Anyway, this shredder only shreds in an oblong diamond shape! I didn't discover until after about 2 minutes, when the "bin is full" light came on. When I saw that cut, I went ballistic!!!! The pieces are larger than a cross cut, and the way this cuts, it's obviously easy for someone to put back together the important documents you're trying to prevent!
Stay away!!!!! Stay far, FAR AWAY!!!!!!!
Thank you... Come again...
